I love this series so much, they get to be SOFT and MARRIED <3. I'm glad Orbo is at least a little bit nice, letting them go to Fionnaworld. Rebels Rewatch: "Wings of the Master"

Hera focus this time 'round, let's go flying.

Technically not a Friendship Fetch Quest episode, at least in terms of allies specifically for the Ghost crew. We DO gain an ally, but he and his creation are really more useful to the wider Rebellion at large. That is also a major recurring theme of the show: Building up the Rebellion piece by piece, ship by ship, cell by cell, person by person.

Not entirely sure why Kallus is heading up an Imperial blockade, that doesn't usually seem his area of expertise.

I think we're supposed to understand that Empire learned about them trying to smuggle aid to Ibaar and enacted the blockade to capture/destroy them but... honestly they just seem really really petty about preventing this one planet in particular from getting food.

It's always weird when one of the background bit roles is clearly just Steve Blum or Freddie Prince Jr.

Hera taking control and barking orders at everyone one by one, a nice hint foreshadowing that she's our focal character for today.

Sad Hera makes the heart hurteth. :(

Oooh, really liking this 360 dolly shot around the briefing holodisplay and the way the harp notes almost seem like they're in time with Rex's steps.

Kanan volunteers Hera for the mission to retrieve the B-wing and booooooooy the bad takes I had to see about that. Fandom could not give the boys a break, always took some of the most reaching uncharitable interpretations of everything they did.

(Fortunately most of them went away after the Season Two finale, with occasional hiccups.)

All I'm gonna say is that it was clear from the action prologue and basically the entirety of how Hera'd been acting that she was tunnel visioning and needed to be broken out of that single-goal mindset, or at least redirected to go after the solution that would actively help.

I do wonder if the reason Hera was so unusually determined to blunt force her way past the blockade had anything to do with her Clone Wars experiences. Ryloth was blockaded and starved out as well.

You know, after the crap he dealt with last episode it's really kind of nice to see Ezra feeling and acting lighter, he seems much less stressed.

Also this whole exchange is hilarious. Love Ezra banging on Chopper's dome and then pretending he didn't do it.

A new cue starts up here, a bit akin to the "Victory" leitmotif, sounds like snare drums handling the beat there maybe. Makes it sound a bit more exotic.

This whole sequence has some great camerawork and blocking. Really makes you feel the speed and wind and hard turns.

I appreciate that they could have played Zeb's weight tilting the ship dangerously off the edge for laughs but didn't, they stayed very serious throughout.

Quarrie is obviously named after Ralph McQuarrie, one of the big concept artists for the Original Trilogy. A nice little homage.

There's this really pretty quality to how Quarrie's irises are painted. Rebels' eye models are always so detailed and vibrant and look like a lot of hard work to make so consistently lovely, I totally get why the animators sometimes went out of their way to avoid doing them lol.

I'm frankly still a little confused by Quarrie's initial refusal to let them take the B-wing. I guess he was doing a Secret Test Of Character and once he heard why Hera was motivated to fly he decided she was up to snuff?

The set design for Quarrie's shipyard is nice though.

A little bit of Hera backstory! Honestly, I never thought Hera as a character needed much explanation; What we get about her motivation and past in this episode is pretty much all we need. (We get more obviously when we meet her dad but that's kind of a bonus.) Hera is straightforward (passionate about flying, channeled her skills and passion into the Rebellion) and her character arc is nearly already complete by the time we meet her, only missing that reconciliation with her father.

She doesn't have as many character struggles but then she doesn't exactly need them. She knows who she is, what she wants, what motivates her, and there's something to be said for that kind of self-assuredness.

The show would shake up her foundations later, as things got more serious but for now this was just enough character exploration to satisfy.

Anyway, Hera's speech is what Quarrie was waiting for, apparently, and he lets her test fly the B-wing.

This beautiful sweeping cue I think might be Hera's theme. It first turns up in this episode and has played periodically throughout.

I know a lot of fans have praised this flying sequence so let me just add to the chorus, it's really good. You get a solid sense of the speed and maneuverability of the B-wing.

Lol Sabine and Quarrie spatting over who's going to modify and refine the B-Wing.

The Phantom gets a mid-season upgrade, now capable of hyperspace travel on its own, independent of the Ghost, a feature which gets puts to a LOT of use the rest of the season as Kanan and Ezra split off from the rest more and more.

Running a blockade stationed on one side of a planet might seem weird when there's a whole back half of the planet that's not blocked off but remember, hyperspace lanes are a thing, it takes more work and effort to chart new paths through hyperspace than it does to just use the existing lane, which will only let you out at a certain spot. All the Empire has to do is sit in front of that spot to prevent you from maneuvering around and outflanking them.

The new Rebel Alliance cue that we heard in the first season finale makes an appearance to herald Hera's arrival.

"Oh shit that's my wife, lol y'all screwed now."

And the B-wing takes out a huge chunk of one of the Imperial cruisers. This is why developing the TIE Defenders became so important, never underestimate the importance of fighter superiority.

The success of the mission prompts Sato to promote Hera officially to Phoenix Leader and everyone looks so proud of her. As they should lol.

This is one of my husband's favorite episodes. If we're consuming Rebels like comfort food it's one of the ones he tends to pick. The man likes starfighters and the B-wing is his favorite, what can I say?

It's not a very complicated episode but it's beautiful and leaves me feeling light and happy.

Sabine's turn for basic backstory and minor character development is next and... well I'll just comment about it when I get there.

Alisaie: Trying to survive. I know. They know better than to dip me again, at least. Street kids at least know not to bite the hand that actually helps them from time to time. And honestly, having to bitch-slap Kagha with her own scripture to make her stop torturing a child is just bullshit. Her attitude to the tieflings is bullshit too; I want to know why by the hells she wants this place locked down so bad. Speaking of, where in the hells is Astarion?

Astarion: *rocking up ten minutes late, only missing the Starbucks* Sorry about the delay; Gale was a little slow to ask for my presence. I think he was recomposing himself after you being amenable to whatever favour he asked of you. What did he ask of you, by the way? Anything interesting?

Alisaie: Technically his share of the loot. Not your problem.

Astarion: Fair enough; I just wish I'd thought to be devious enough to claim first dibs on loot. Anyway, I thought you wanted to keep me away from these lovely people. Whatever could have changed your mind?

Alisaie: Feel like tossing that office for potential blackmail material?

Astarion: You do know how to show someone a good time. ...I'll likely need a little distraction, however. They are being so terribly alert in there.

Astarion: *stealths and heads towards the back of the room*

Wyll; Shadowheart; Druid Assistant; Wolf; Basically Everyone: *staring as the illusory rats 'scamper away'*

Astarion: *hands paperwork to Alisaie: What ... exactly ... did I miss?

Alisaie: Shut up, you, or I'm bringing you to these swamps as a punishment. Looks like Kagha's up to something with Shadow Druids and we need to find out what. But first I'm going to go help that poor woman I heard murdering her lute out there.

Unfortunately, they get waylaid en route by a fancy-dressed Raphael spiriting them away to a banqueting table

Raphael: Please; help yourselves, as my honoured guests.

Alisaie: There's a pretty well-known poem - something about "We must not look at archfey men / We must not eat their fruits" - so how stupid do you think we are, exactly?

Raphael: *taking winged demon shape* Does this look like an archfey to you?

Alisaie: Yeah, no, I've heard about the cuisine in the City of Brass and literal soul food is not any better. What the fuck do you want?

Raphael: To make a little deal. I mean, a soul's nice and all, I'm sure, but how much good will it do you when you're a mind flayer?

Alisaie: How about "fuck off"? Does "fuck off" work for you? If it doesn't, too bad, because that's all your getting. I might throw in some variants - like, "get fucked up the arse with a cactus sideways", if I'm feeling generous.

Raphael: I'll get you yet, pretty. And your little dog, too.

Alisaie: I don't have a--

And they're back in the Emerald Grove

Astarion: ...Honestly, that was nicely familiar. And options are good things to have.

Alisaie: .........Please go back to camp so I don't have to bitch-slap you. Oh, and send Lae'zel. We need to talk to that tiefling who saw the gith patrol and I guess she should be there for that.

Astarion: Oh, fine. At least you're taking some steps towards a cure that don't involve a druid telling us to poison ourselves to death. *saunters off*

Wyll: You ... do know that having a githyanki here is going to be a bad idea, right?

Alisaie: I know. I'm getting it over with as fast as possible. Might as well have all the pains in the ass in one big clump.

Not very long later

Lae'zel: Your interrogation techniques are weak!

Alisaie: And yet we have information without terrorising him! And I am not one of your foot-soldiers and you're not one of those dragon-riding knights of whatever and right now you really need to get out of here before the already-freaked-out tiefling starts meebling at his equally-freaked-out friends and they come and try to lynch you!

Lae'zel: If you think I could not best a pack of teef-lings, you insult me.

Alisaie: At this point I might be inclined to help them, and-- Wait. You just called them teef-lings. You're basically clueless about any society but your own, aren't you.

Lae'zel: ...You will teach me.

Alisaie: Okay, lesson one: when you've threatened to do grievous physical harm to someone and all his friends are around and on hair-triggers because everything in their immediate vicinity wants them dead, leave before they snap.

Lae'zel: Ugh. *heads out*

Alisaie: And send back Gale! I need someone with more settings than "sulk", "seethe", and "kill".

Shadowheart: Why did we rescue her, again?

Alisaie: Because we couldn't get admittance into that creche she was talking about without her, and I want as many options for a cure as I can get that don't involve trading my soul to a cambion. If you want the pragmatic reasons. Which are the only ones I don't lose sight of when she starts being insulting just because.

A little while later, after a walk down the beach that went badly wrong

Wyll: All right ... I'm feeling better after being lured by harpies. Your wizard...

Gale: *rolling shit on WIS saves* Oooh, pretty.

Wyll: Is entirely not. And Shadowheart--

Shadowheart: *flinging Guiding Bolt at incoming Harpy, reducing it to ash*

Wyll: ...Is fine. Alisaie--

Alisaie: *Mobile Flourished (Ranged); fires an arrow at the singing harpy, then teleports over to said singing harpy; kabobs harpy in the process*

Wyll: ...what the...

Alisaie: Elfsong Tavern says hello, you feathered amateur! *headbutts; Thunderwaves the rest into abstract splatters on the cliff face*

Gale: *blinkblink* Waitwut.

Wyll: As Blade of the Frontiers, lady ... I want lessons.

And some while later, after a meeting with Zevlor and a couple of unfortunate encounters...

Gale: Alisaie ... today we have bested harpies, stopped two incursions into the grove by the local goblin and bugbear population...

Wyll: Rescuing one of the local archivists from goblins just in the nick of time! Is this what it feels like to have all the tales they tell about me not be exaggerated?

Alisaie: Yep. Bask away.

Gale: Anyway, and also interrogated a dead man. The sun is getting low and we could really use a rest.

Alisaie: Yeah, just investigating these berry bushes and--

Scratch: *is pacing around his former master*

Wyll: ...Didn't that demon say...?

Alisaie: So he's keeping an eye on things and knows I won't leave a dog to pine himself to death. And if Raphael tries to get my new dog I will feed him his own horns.

Gale; Shadowheart; Wyll: ............

Alisaie: I'd do the same if he went after you guys, by the way. Just in case I didn't mention.

Shadowheart: What about Astarion and Lae'zel?

Alisaie: ......Meeeeeeh, that's still up for debate. Not sure where Lae'zel stands on demon pacts but Astarion's up for anything that gives him power so I might keep him away from Raphael as a matter of principle. *retrieves sausage from pack; approaches Scratch* Hey, fuzzbutt. Hungry?

Gale: She is the oddest combination of kind and ... and...

Shadowheart: I think 'pragmatic' is the word you're groping for.

Gale: Actually, I was vacillating between that one and 'unbelievably violent'.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim

Some games need a pretty big buy-in right up front. Death Stranding and Xenoblade Chronicles come to mind. 13 Sentinels is similar to the former in this regard (for me at least). It's a story about time traveling teens who take all their clothes off to pilot giant mechs in battle against kaiju.

So that's a lot to chew on.

You alternate between controlling 13 different characters at various points in the past, present, and future. It's horny, but apparently less horny than other games from developer Vanillaware. I'm not super familiar with them but on a related note I just picked up their side-scrolling beat 'em up Dragon Crown Pro on the cheap, and booooooooy. Thought I was safe when I elected not to play as the witch character with the comedically enormous boobs. I went with the Amazon, played for approximately one minute, then shut it off. Maybe another time when my kids are not around. Maybe not. Yikes. Not just horny but those proportions. Uh

EVERY MOMENT IN THIS TWISTED FORM IS AGONY KILL ME

Aaaaanyway. 13 Sentinels is only somewhat horny, despite the naked teens piloting mechs and that one nurse lady with the large cans.

The game's progression is unusual. Each time you launch the game, you choose to either play story bits from the perspective of a character of your choice - or you choose to play the realtime strategy-ish game where you are piloting mechs and defending the city from invaders.

The former is doled out to you in such a way that you can't really ruin the story for yourself. For example, you might play as Iori Fuyusaka for a bit, then it will say "Play more of Nenji Okata's story to unlock further progress." You're witnessing events unfolding in the present (1980's Japan in the game) the past (WWII era Japan) and 2025, 2065, and 2105 (oh shit science and time travel and mechs). Giant kaiju are coming to destroy everything, and these teens piloting mechs are all that can stop them. Maybe the Americans are responsible? What year is it? Why is this black cat hanging around and talking to this girl and maybe getting her to kill people? Maybe we can somehow prevent all this bad shit that is happening or has happened or will happen.

The story is told by way of 2D side-scrolling adventure-y gameplay. You're walking around gorgeous these environments looking for information and clues, and talking to people. Maybe get you some yakisoba-pan? Yes, do that. Always the yakisoba-pan. There are some detective elements to the game where, as you talk to people and discover new clues, new dialogue options get added to a sort of "thought cabinet."

There's murder drama, high school drama, deception, love, and oh boy, it's a fucking LOT. What's real? Who is hiding something? What fucking year is it??? I decided pretty early on to give myself over to it rather than try to be hyper-analytical. The story is a real rollercoaster ride, and I loved every damn minute of it, especially when I let go of the wheel. I expected that.

What I did not expect to love was the mech city-defense RTS portion of the game. Baddies invade the city from every direction. Some fly, some walk, and so on. You choose some number of your teens to get into their mechs and defend the city. If the enemies get through and destroy the core, it's game over. Your characters gain XP, learn skills, and have specializations. Your squad consists of high health defenders, melee specialists, EMP, healers, long range missile units, and more. You mix and match and choose who to pair with who for each battle.

The visuals really do nothing for me, at all. It's part of why I didn't play the game until I could get it on deep discount. I looked at screenshots like the one above and felt absolutely nothing (even more than usual). It's extremely functional though. Bright, flashy effects hit with flare, and the numbers. So many numbers. The battles take place in real time until you bring up a menu to move a unit or select an attack or ability. Then it slows to a crawl until you've chosen your action. Thank you, thank you, THANK you Vanillaware. It's essentially real time with pause, which has a special place in my heart.

The cadence of playing a couple of story bits then doing a city defense battle is really pleasing. 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim was a pleasant surprise, and one of a small handful of games where I got the platinum trophy. It's a weird stew of anime, time travel, mech, and kaiju, and it isn't really like anything else I've played. I know it's not wholly new and unique, but it's far enough off the beaten path for me that it felt like a breath of fresh air.

What I Thought About "Yesterday's Lie" from The Owl House

Salutations, random people on the internet who absolutely won’t read this! I am an Ordinary Schmuck. I write stories and reviews and draw comics and cartoons!

Here it is! The midseason finale of The Owl House Season Two! An episode featuring Luz going back to the human realm, is hyped up to heaven about how painful it'll be for the audience, and features more anxiety by how Creepy Luz is a thing. And BOOOOOOOOY howdy were fans not ready for this. I'm sure as hell not ready for when I wrote this intro at *checks time* thirty minutes before watching the official premier. Yup, the words you're reading right now are from me in the past, when everything was still pure and simple. Whereas future me is still probably destroyed by the events that transpired. Isn't that right, future me?

Future Me: Actually, it wasn’t that bad. The ending hurt, sure, but other than that, it wasn’t too painful.

Wow, that is some neat input! At least, I think it was. I wouldn't know because I literally wrote that after watching the episode. With the words you're currently reading being written at *checks time* twenty-six minutes before the premier...this whole intro is confusing, isn't it, future me?

Future Me: Sure is.

Yeah, it's definitely confusing. In any case, let's dive into this spoiler-filled review as we find out together just how painful this episode was! Take it away, future me!

Future Me: Will do! Major spoilers ahead, folks!

Now, let’s review, shall we?

WHAT I LIKED

Luz’s Room: We only see it for a short time, but everything about it just screams Luz. The pile of weird-looking stuffed animals, the witch hat in the center of the floor, and the fact that she has bunk beds, a single child's dream (Or so I've heard). It's a small thing, but I love it.

Vee: Here she is! The character previously dubbed Creepy Luz who now turns out to be yet another new addition to the ever-growing list of characters that we, as a fandom, would give our lives for. Because holy s**t was Vee the best type of expectation subversion. Showing us all the ominous ways of how she basically took Luz's place made fans assume that Vee was an evil doppelganger. Turns out, she was just a tortured soul that was desperate to live a new and better life and lucked out in finding Luz's. What Vee does is...questionable at best, but seeing what she went through with the experiments Belos pulled on her, you understand why she would do it. And I personally love it's that same background information that makes Vee resentful of Luz of all people. Luz's life is a relative dream come true, and running away from that would be insane to someone who spent most of their existence through imprisonment and experimentation. It's an intriguing point of view, even though it's admittingly flawed given how it's mostly Camila that seemingly made Luz's life bearable. But the flaws don't matter. What matters is that you can see where Vee is coming from, and to me, personally, I think she's understandable enough to make me root for her to have some kind of happy ending. Whether as Luz or as herself, I'm hopeful to see Vee get some semblance of peace.

Camila: *Round of applause* Don't mind me! Just taking the time to love how all them sons of b**hes who thought Camila was a bad mom are now heavily invalidated. 'Cause, guess what? Camila is a fantastic mother, both to her daughter and her daughter's doppelganger! Allow me to walk you through the highlights:

How Camila looks like she’s not okay with the fact that "Luz" is clearing out her weird stuff, seemingly acting too different to the Luz she knows. Added to the fact that Camila doesn't like it.

How Camila drove Luz to camp whether than letting her take the bus

The fact that Camila takes that box of junk back in, not willing to part with the tin foil sculpture Luz made.

The way she was willing to play along with the game she thought Luz was doing, supporting her daughter's creative mind that Camila admits to being glad to see.

And, best of all, the willingness Camila had to help this poor creature, despite the lies it lived.

It's that last part I really want to touch upon, though. Because an action like that shows just how much Luz's heart comes from Camila. The kindness and generosity of helping this poor creature, who she has every right to run out on, proves how Luz learned to be everything she is today through Camila's own loving heart. Vee was scared and hurt, and the second Camila saw that she was then more than willing to help because of it. It's something that Luz would do, and it proves that even though Camila didn't exactly get everything right, she's still a great mom where it counts.

“A new life”: A perfect line.

Initially, it makes audiences think that it has everything to do with replacing Luz. It's only through future context that we know it's about escaping the s**t show Vee once lived through that it's clear she's talking about starting over. It hits us with intrigue on the first viewing, only to hit harder with the feels during a second. Really well-done.

Luz in the Mirror: A well-done surprise that makes fans curious about how this even happen in the first place. Kudos to you, writers.

The New Portal: I don't mind that they found a way to build this off-screen. Showing Luz and the gang slowly building a new portal would have been a little too tedious to watch, and it's so much better to just start this episode out with it. Besides, maybe we'll get the slow and steadier version now that we've seen how quickly building one might not have been the best way to go, given how fast that thing fell apart.

Luz Between Dimensions: I have no clue what the hell that place she was in is called, but it's awesome! The overall design of the realm is the correct type of unsettling, like it's oozing with mystery, but it's somewhere that you probably don't want to be in for too long. Whoever designed it deserves all of the credit because I don't want to even think about all the hard work that went into making this look as well-made as it was.

Luz Resisting to See Amity: What? Luz and Amity are adorable, and seeing Luz's immediate thought about seeing Amity makes my shipping heart scream with glee. Don't judge me!

Hiding Luz’s Dad’s Face: Well, that was a fun story while it lasted.

So, it turns out that Luz's dad really was a part of Luz's and Camila's life at some point, but not anymore. As for why remains to be seen, as we don't really know yet if we'll see him make an appearance. I'd say that the odds are high that he will, given how much of a point this episode made about keeping his face hidden. Shows don't usually do that unless the goal is to hype up some official reveal, and I can't wait to see what comes of it.

Luz Telling Herself to Count to Five: Hey, more evidence for how I relate to Luz! I know how it feels to be all panicky about a specific situation, and I only got better when I took the time to calm down for a bit. Sometimes, I even tried the "count to x" method that Luz used...it never worked, primarily because it made me feel worse when people told me to do it, but I still tried it! Plus, there's also some narrative foreshadowing when after Luz says five, the realm shows her Vee, or Number V, which is a pretty cool detail you'll notice on a rewatch.

Luz Helping Vee: I gave Camila praise for helping Vee in the end, but that doesn't abstain Luz from her own set of recognition. The second that Luz realized that Vee wasn't really a threat and is far from evil, our favorite human does what she can to help and even makes a deal where they're both happy. Because, of course, Luz is that perfect of a protagonist who is more than willing to help others in need. And it's why we love her so.

Looking for Magic that Eda Left Behind: A pretty cool idea that gives Luz and Vee a chance to bond and giving us an insight into Eda's past antics and misadventures in the human realm. Not much I can add to it, though.

Gravesfield: It's surprisingly not as jarring as I thought it would be to spend an episode in the human realm. I thought for sure, after all that time in the Boiling Isles, there would be something off about walking around a normal environment for a change. Turns out, it's almost easy to get used to. Or, for me, it is.

But I will say that there's this neat use of colors when comparing Gravesfield with the Boiling Isles. In Gravesfield, the coloring looks dulled down and standard, which is a stark contrast to the bright vibrancy of everything we've seen in the Boiling Isles. It's a subtle way of showing how things are different, aside from the major discrepancies we could come to expect. And I think that's why I appreciate it much more.

Eda’s Called Herself Marylynn in the Human Realm: Hang on...hang on...do you mean to tell me that the crack theory about Eda being Stan's ex-wife is actually true?

...

...What even is this show?!

Vee Making Friends with Camp Members: This shows the most apparent difference between Luz and Vee. Where we see Luz is already fearing the many ways that could go wrong with interacting with teens, Vee revealed that she adapted to her situation and had a chance to make friends. The implications of this are worth discussing another time, but for now, I'll say that it's pretty intriguing that we gain this much insight into both Luz and Vee through such a small thing.

Belos Wanting to Learn How Basilisks can Drain Magic: ...Didn't Raine say that Belos was taking away magic? If so, I think we can figure out how he's doing it. The question now is: Why?

Jacob (The Curator Guy): This guy was a riot. At first, Jacob seemed like a threat with the way he trapped Vee and was apparently stocking her, but the second he goes off about his conspiracy theories, it becomes clear what type of character he is. And was it a blast seeing how much of a crackpot this man is. It wasn't cool seeing him wanting to dissect the precious angel that is Vee, but I still chuckle about things like his "Flat Eather's Certificate." So while he's not that much of a threat, he's still fun to watch.

The Owl Beast was in the Human Realm: ...How did that happen? When did it happen? And how the hell did Eda get out of a situation like that?! Who knows, but it's still a shocking piece of news to learn.

Luz Telling Camila the Truth: Hey, she faced her fear after all! Although, the results aren't as pleasant as when Amity faced her fear two weeks ago.

Camila is a Veterinarian: ...One insignificant reveal...managed to destroy so many fanfics. I mean, we probably shouldn't have just assumed Camila was a nurse...but what the f**k else were we supposed to think?! Sorry for seeing the scrubs, and the first thing that came to my mind was "nurse" and not "vet."

By the way, that had to have been intentional, right? There's no way that Dana Terrace didn't think we'd assume Camila was a nurse. She'd had to have put off a reveal like that just to trip up her fans. And if that's the case, then that is a major d**k move...but that's why I mildly respect it.

Two Human Brothers went to the Demon Realm: Turns out we don't have to be in the Boiling Isles to learn more about it. Because now we have more information about how two humans were taken to the Isles with the help of a witch, thus setting up a grander reveal if it turns out that one of the humans was Philip and the witch was Belos. Because if that's true...then there's more of a history between those two than we thought.

Jacob has a Training Wand: This helps me believe that it's highly likely for Jacob to make a return and to have a power boost for when he does. After all, focussing all that attention on the training wand is way too convenient for it not to come up again in the future. Meaning we're most likely going to get more pain from Jacob if he shows up again.

Camila Beats the Crap out of Jacob for Vee: ...Writers, don't make me choose between Camila and Eda on who's the better cartoon mom. I know Eda's technically not a mom...BUT I STILL DON'T WANT TO CHOOSE DAMNIT!

Also, the sandal...just...

Why the f**k does Camila have a sandal in her purse? I don't know. Is it still funny that she does? Most certainly.

Camila and Luz’s Talk in the Rain: Ooooooooh, I was not ready for this...

I wasn't ready for the crying.

I wasn't ready for the hurt in Camila's eyes when she found out Luz chose to stay in the Boiling Isles.

I wasn't ready for Camila asking if Luz hates being with her that much.

I wasn't ready for Luz profusely stating how it was never Camila's fault.

I was not ready for Camila to tell Luz that she'll try to do better.

And I definitely was not ready for Luz to barely have enough time to promise that she'll come back.

This episode wasn't the twenty-two minutes of nonstop angst that I thought it was going to be...but this short scene more than make up for it.

Luz Tries to Stay Strong: Yet another thing she unwittingly learned from Camila. Camila tried to keep a brave face when Vee was with her and Luz, most likely not wanting to tear either of them down in the process. Luz does the same thing here as she avoids talking about the details of what went down in her sort-of journey back home. And seeing her clearly fake smile slowly droop into an uncertain frown, it uh...it definitely tore me up inside.

WHAT I DISLIKED

I want to say it's perfect, but there's one major issue that really bogs this episode down.

Continuity Error in How Vee Replaced Luz: Having Vee take Luz's place the same day Luz appeared in the Isles is a smart idea on paper...if it wasn't for the fact that it's impossible.

Because Eda closed the portal door the second that she saw Luz, meaning that there's no way for Vee to go to the human realm. It's a major plothole that makes no sense, and it might just be the first time ever that this series wasn't so closely knit with its story. Which ends up taking a dive in quality in the process.

IN CONCLUSION

I'd say that "Yesterday's Lie" is an A-. Everything about Luz, Vee, and Camila is incredible, combined into a story that ends in tragedy and uncertainty for the future. That plothole may drag things down a bit, but everything else is handled so well that I'm not lying when I say it's easy to forgive and forget.

(And that's ten episodes in a row without a single stinker. HOW THE F**K DOES THIS SEASON KEEP WINNING?!)
