It wasn’t just her children who were filled with anxiety over the news of her pregnancy. Sparrow was distraught.
Tumblr media
The tribe’s high elder, Umata, had given Sparrow words of comfort. She was a skilled midwife and had delivered several babies in her life, including Sparrow’s close friend Tsala.
Tumblr media
Tsala, who had been blessed by the Watcher with easy pregnancies, could tell this pregnancy of Sparrow’s was weighing heavily on her. It hadn’t exactly been planned or anticipated.
Tumblr media
Eagle listened intently to Umata’s words of comfort, she was trying to absorb as much information to help her dear friend, Sparrow, through this challenging season.
Tumblr media
“The last pregnancy of mine was a disaster,” Sparrow groaned. “If this is what the Ancestor’s intend, I will accept this fate, but I worry so.”
Tumblr media
“The ancestors would not grant you this new life in your blood line if it didn’t mean you could handle it,” Tsala offered, but she knew this was of little comfort. Several of her pregnancies had come out complicated times and left her taut with worry.
Tumblr media
“Eat the root of the Twangiit plant twice a day and your child will be blessed with vitality,” Umata said, almost oblivious to the tense atmosphere.
Tumblr media
“Sparrow,” Eagle said in her soft voice. “I know this is so hard for you right now, but you will get through this pregnancy and will be gifted with a beautiful child. We’ll be here every step of the way.”
Tumblr media
The others agreed wholeheartedly.
Tumblr media
Still not convinced, Eagle added, “My prayer bones spelled out your fate last night.”
The others looked at her keenly.
“Your child will be healthy and they will carry on your bloodline for many generations.” Eagle, a priestess of bones, had spiritual connection to the future. At her promise, Sparrow allowed herself the smallest reprieve from her anxiety.

[IDEA THAT'S NOT YET A PITCH]
Guillermo Del Toro's Age Of Beasts
What is it —
An action science fiction monster film that's best described as Mel Gibson's Apocalypto or Ubisoft's Far Cry Primal crossed with Del Toro's own Pacific Rim and Hideaki Anno's Neon Genesis Evangelion.
PREMISE:
Set in 10,000 BC on Prehistoric Earth, giant mecha soldiers — part of an advanced alien race of robots — arrive on this planet to hunt and do battle with just as giant alien monsters that have too made their way to here and the result is a true, if not the very first ever, battle of the ages as a tribe of warriors find themselves in the middle of this epic battle.
NOTES/TRIVIA/DETAILS:
• While the movie will have dialogue from the robots and humans, the former will be in their own distinctive alien language while the latter will be in their own language as well with the aliens starting to develop the modern english language and eventually pass it down to the early humans.
• The reason why it's "Guillermo Del Toro's Age Of Beasts" is because I want HIM and him ONLY to direct this movie, especially with the large size, weight and scale of the robots and monsters.
• Even though they're either alien robots or prehistoric humans, the main goal is to have you actually care about the characters as they are still characters who even have their own arcs with the main protagonist of the story being Reiker, the captain of the squad who's highly experienced in the field but learns the value of never losing your humanity. I'm thinking of he's up to learning a new language that Clancy Brown can voice him.

Even after Ghark tried cheering her up, Rain went home that day with a heaviness inside her chest. She sat down and fought back tears. Some time later, Fern saw her sitting there and approached her.
Tumblr media
Fern inquired as to why Rain was sitting pensively by herself and after a bit of prodding...
Tumblr media
Rain immediately began to complain about the new baby. It was the same things she said to her friends. The baby will upend their lives, take away their parents attention, and force so many extra sacrifices onto the family.
Tumblr media
Fern listened patiently to her little sister. She didn’t scold her not even when Rain angrily looked at her and said, “it’s not like you can understand. You’re the special oldest child.”
Tumblr media
Fern looked at her sister with nothing but love in her eyes. She told her, “Rainy, you don’t remember this but when you and River were born I threw tantrums. I didn’t want siblings either, but then you and River arrived and became my sisters, my best friends.”
There was a pause as Rain’s eyes filled with tears.
Tumblr media
“There’s something else, isn’t there?” Fern asked gently.
Rain noded, fighting back tears.
Tumblr media
“What if she gets hurt?” Rain said, voice cracking. “I don’t want Ama to die.”
Fern’s heart broke at this confession. She had an inkling there was more than just sibling jealousy at play. She reached out to her younger sister and squeezed her hand.
“The ancestors will watch over Ama. I know in my heart they will.”
Tumblr media
Fern and Rain rose from the log bench and embraced in a tight, loving hug.
The prickling anxiety weaned in Rain’s heart.
Tumblr media
“I love you, Fern,” Raid said, feeling peace at last.

A division of labor between males and females certainly developed fairly early and was reinforced when groups developed weapons effective enough to kill moving animals from a distance
Such weapons made it possible for small groups to hunt solitary, fast moving animals Hunting with projectile weapons became the domain of men, partly because it was hard for women to chase swift game while they were nursing. So wherever humans organized small hunting parties that left the main camp, they were likely to be all or mostly male However, this did not make women dependent upon their individual mates. Women, keeping their children near, were more likely to specialize in gathering and processing plants and shellfish, manufacturing clothing, trapping small animals, and making digging or cooking implements. This gender specialization led to greater interdependence between males and females.
As these productive techniques became more complicated, people had to invest more time in teaching them to children, providing an incentive for couples to stay together for longer stretches. (...) Many simple hunting and gathering societies place so much emphasis on sharing that a person who kills an animal gets no more of its meat than do his companions. A review of twenty-five hunting and gathering societies found that in only three did the hunter get the largest share of his kill. In most, the hunter was obliged to share the meat equally with other camp members, and in a few he got less than he distributed to others. Anthropologist Polly Wiessner observes that these customs create total interdependence among families: “The hunter spends his life hunting for others, and others spend their lives hunting for him.”
The idea that in prehistoric times a man would spend his life hunting only for the benefit of his own wife and children, who were dependent solely upon his hunting prowess for survival, is simply a projection of 1950s marital norms onto the past. The male / female pair was a good way to organize sexual companionship, share child rearing, and divide daily work. A man who was a skilled hunter might have been an attractive mate, as would have been a woman who was skilled at foraging or making cooking implements, but marrying a good hunter was not the main way that a woman and her children got access to food and protection.
