Tarzan!Ingo: His Sneasler sibling wingmanning for him
(It doesn't go well)
Sfw cut for length
Ingo x Gn!reader
*inserts Hidden World reference here*
You let out an exhausted sigh, your clothes folded neatly on a nearby rock as you soak into a natural Hot Spring. Your Expedition to find Sneaslers in the wild to document their social habits hasn't been fruitful for you.
You couldn't return to the Village empty-handed; the professor had high hopes for you. Not only that, gaining the trust of Commander Komado was vital for you to remain in the village and for you to survive basically.
However, your Expedition to the mountains of Coronet Heights wasn't in vain.
Making contact with a man who seemingly has been raised by wild Pokemon. Ingo was a fascinating study, more evidence that Pokemon perhaps can live in harmony with humans. But you can't stray away from your primary mission.
You hope to pray to hypothetical Almighty Sinnoh he could take you to the Sneaslers colony-.
You freeze, hearing the sound of rocks scattering about coming from the dense rock formations covering your bare body.
The fog and the snowfall made it hard to see but you wouldn't dare leave the pool of warmth while you're equipment, Pokeballs sat on the other side of the pool.
You peer into the dense fog, trying desperately to see what could have made that noise behind those large rocks, all the while taking steps backward to reach for your partners ready for a potential battle, as a figure begins to show itself on top of the giant rock formation.
You sighed relief as the figure became clearer to you, his silver eyes deep and mysterious, silver wild and oddly Majestic Hair was unmistakable.
"oh thank Almighty it's just you..." you Mumble to yourself, fingers pinching your temples.
Ingo seemed different than usual you couldn't put your finger on it. His chest puffed out in pride with that permanent frown on his face before taking one step, not looking at where he was stepping, slipping on the rock, and letting out a hiss as he fell to the ground.
'Ok...' you watch in utter confusion with a concerned look on your face, you've studied his behavior before and this was completely new to you. Completely dropping your guard from before.
Heat rushes to The Wild man's face with embarrassment as he shakes off the gravel and dust before getting back up on his hind legs, his stance stiff and inhuman.
His eyes glance behind you the Tall cat like figure cheering him on quietly,
The cat Pokemon purred as he watched you and ingo in a distance, far enough for the fog the completely skewer him from your view. However, with his sharp eyes, he could easily see his brother trying his hardest to flirt with the human he thought was pretty.
You saw Ingo's eyes light up at his sibling waving his claws from the other side of you. Only for you to see nothing when you turn around the Sneasler hiding behind the rock as you turn your head.
You turn back around Ingo's attention catching to your legs before looking at his own. He loosens his more Sneasler stance for a moment, with much exaggeration putting one leg in front of the other.
Is he trying to mimic your walk?
How cute.
you chuckle putting your hand do your mouth. Ingo noticing your positive reaction gives a shy smile back, his lips representing a skitty; he could feel his heart fluttering in his chest. A rumbling came from his throat, purring in delight.
He continues his actions reacting little to his pelts getting soaked in the spring water. He could only get within a few feet of you before you back up, reminding yourself that Ingo maybe raised by wild Pokemon, but he is still a grown man, and you are naked as the day you were born in a hot spring alone with him; he gets closer his brother peering from behind a rock hyping as Ingo draws closer only to quietly hiss as he watches you push him away.
"ok, ok, ok, back up, mister," you affirm, pressing a hand on his chest and stepping back; his chest was firm, built with pure muscle, probably is from spending his entire life climbing mountains and surviving on what he could find or hunting.
It was survival of the fittest in Coronet Heights and he thrived;
Ingo immediately stops, his smile fading, ' what's wrong? Did he do something wrong? Did he get the human mating dance wrong?!
With his pleading eyes he looks at his brother to help.
The Sneasler doesn't give up, putting its claws under his chin, thinking of a way to help his brother snag a mate before his eyes widen, a genius idea popping in his snickering feline head. His shoulders imitate a prowling motion. He flexes his clawed hands, ensuring his adoptive brother knows that showing your strong, sharp claws is important in getting a mate...
Sadly that only works for Sneaslers, not humans.
Your attention was solely on Ingo watching him flex his fingers.
You step back again giving yourself more distance from him.
Your face goes back to immediate bewilderment when you see him hunch his shoulders, his arms out, giving you a nice full view of his muscular arms. You can only barely see his ripped abs covered in scars, telling tales of Pokemon he has fought in the past. His hands are hooking to resemble claws as he practically prowls toward your you hear a growl ripple from his throat as he gets closer. His stone, emotionless face twisted into an aggressive one.
His legs seemingly ready to pounce on you. Reminding you that Ingo could, in fact, overpower you if he really wanted. And you would be powerless to stop him. He gets closer, his arm out to touch you. To grab you?!
His brother watching from a distance, all too pleased with his idea, gives Ingo a thumbs up, encouraging his brother to turn up the heat.
Before you can do anything, your hand connects to his face forcefully, pushing him with all your might and making him stumble over into the hot water.
" I don't know what's gotten into you today and go, but I think it's time for me to leave."
You had an irritated look on your face; Ingo looked in horror, watching you go to gather your things, his brother immediately hiding from your sight as you fully turned around.
The wild man tries to run after you only to lose his footing slipping into the water and falling face first.
You look back for a second, rolling your eyes at him.
What a wonderful reminder that this man is supposed to lead you to the Sneaslers.
Putting on your clothes, and before leaving the fog, completely hiding your figure in view.
Ingo growls in frustration before softening into sadness. Glancing at his reflection, he balls his hand in the first, hitting the water as his brother comes out from his hiding spot to comfort his brother
Ingo has yet to give up him, and his sibling will regroup to draw up a new plan.

In the Weeds
If reading things on Tumblr isn't your favorite, I also have it posted here on AO3. This piece was inspired, once again, by the amazing work of Monsoon-of-Art and the PLA Mer AU. I wrote this in like two hours because I've been thinking about it nonstop. Did some minor editing because I noticed a few things were logically inconsistent or spelling/grammar was off.
Summary:
Akari gets a little lost and overhears a conversation.
It was official, Akari had lost Ingo.
To be fair, it wasn’t entirely her fault. He told her to stay put and he should have known better than to trust her when she was such a poor swimmer. When the current wasn’t bullying her around, she was having issues getting the motion down that Ingo had been patiently trying to teach her. She knew how to swim! … When she had legs… Well, if she was being honest with herself, she wasn’t the best at swimming when she had legs either. Regardless, she found herself clambering over rocks and pulling herself along by grabbing the long kelp strands.
The tides were changing. She didn’t know how she knew that exactly – maybe the pull of the water on her body as it receded back out to sea, but she was still too far from shore for her liking. Ingo was a smart - … guy wasn’t the right word. Merman? Fishman? Akari didn’t have the right terminology yet. He was smart, he would eventually find her, it was like he had a sixth sense for her. He knew that she needed to get back to shore within a certain time frame in order not to arouse suspicion. He knew where she would be headed. It would all be fine.
Or it would all be fine if the ocean wasn’t trying to suck her back in. The riptide she had accidentally found herself in during her exploring and flung her out too far, just beyond the safety of the kelp forest that Ingo had been stashing her in when she decided to visit. She had to keep moving. She had to keep in mind that she had to go up for air a lot more frequently than Ingo had to, hand over hand climbing up the kelp until her head broke the water. With those mandatory breaks, it gave her an indication of just how much further she needed to go and how much time she had left. Akari’s answers this time were a lot further than she would have liked and not long enough.
She took in a deep lung full of air, feeling the unnatural way her lungs seemed to expand past what she thought would be her normal capacity, and plunged beneath the surface. If only the kelp weren’t so slimy and flimsy and her hands so pruny from her duration in the water, she could just keep pushing herself to each strand and keep close to the surface, but everything in the ocean seemed eager to keep her there without her guardian present. Down by the bottom, she began to pull herself along again.
That was, until she heard arguing through the gloom of the forest. She paused, her ears twitching in the direction of the sound keenly and her curiosity tugging her in the direction of the voices. The words were undefined at the moment, but as she drew closer, Akari saw two unfamiliar mers having quite a heated discussion amongst the kelp.
Akari, just as she thought when she first saw Ingo, thought they looked simply magnificent. The smaller was some sort of seal, her brown fur ruffled in irritation and her dark, inverted eyes narrowed as the larger, some sort of bluish fish, seemed to roll his eyes at her like he didn’t have the patience for her. He confirmed it with what he said next.
“You’re not taking this seriously, Irida. And I hate when people waste my time.”
“This is deadly serious, and you know it, Adaman!”
He raised his eyebrow skeptically, folding his arms over his chest and leaning in close to the one he called Irida.
“The humans haven’t bothered us in the slightest. Why should Diamond clan be concerned with any plight of Pearl clan?”
Akari had to squelch a gasp and nestled herself back into the safety of the kelp. She knew who these two mers were, even if Ingo had only mentioned them in passing, and Akari knew she should leave because the clan leaders had yet to know of her existence, but they were talking about humans… Did they mean the Galaxy Team? She knew she should move, but she couldn’t, her fingers inadvertently curling tighter around the kelp.
Irida’s fingers curled in the water in a strangling motion, like she so wanted to choke Adaman for saying something stupid and she said through sharp, gritted teeth,
“Just because they haven’t infringed on your space yet, doesn’t mean that they won’t. The only reason I suspect that they haven’t disturbed you in the way they have my clan is because the water around your settlement is so brackish and silted that they can’t even find you.”
Adaman jerked back, ears pinned back and eyes shirking down to pinpricks at the slight. His thick, muscled tail twitched restlessly in the water, stirring up sand and ruffling the kelp wildly, Akari held on tightly. She could see his mouth flapping and gasping, but no retort came out immediately, and it seemed to make him more agitated.
“Maybe if your warden wasn’t so hasty with his actions, then perhaps the humans wouldn’t be acting quite so aggressive in your territory.”
He finally spat back; the words laced with venom. Adaman was leaning in so close to Irida that he was practically nose-to-nose to her, a smirk of satisfaction curling his lips as she swiftly backed off. There was a tense moment of silence, Akari daring to peek her head out a little more to witness Adaman regain some of his composure.
He lifted his hand and pinched the bridge of his nose, eyes scrunching shut before he exhaled slowly. Irida also seemed to take this time to recalibrate, eyes falling closed as she patted her cheeks almost as if she was giving herself some sort of mental peptalk.
“Are your pups okay?”
Irida whipped around like she hadn’t expected him to ask something like that, Akari got the feeling that it was an unusual question to be asked – but especially by Adaman.
“They’re fine… Hungry mostly.”
Adaman seemed to wince, mouth quirking with guilt, even if the surveyor didn’t know why. Ingo was always stressing the importance of pups and keeping them safe to Akari, it was one of the major reasons he cited for saving her. She looked so much like a helpless pup bleeding in the water... Akari hadn’t realized she had made a noise when she remembered the occasion, but her heart stopped when she saw Irida’s head swivel in her direction, her ears at attention and her eyes as sharp as the claws on her hands.
“Did you hear that?”
Did she almost sound grateful for the abrupt change of subject? Adaman, even if he masked it a little better, also sounded relieved as he said,
“No, but I see you trying to change the subject from the topic at hand. Diamond clan doesn’t intend to do anything about the humans. They haven’t bothered us, so we needn’t take any sort of retaliatory actions.”
Irida was still looking in Akari’s direction, her tail shifting in the water with a natural ease and looking amongst the rocks for the source of the noise she had heard. Akari buried her face in her scarf, edging back slowly as Irida turned back to give one more devastating blow before swimming off in a huff.
“Are you so unaware of your own surroundings that you don’t understand how dire the situation is, Adaman? Your tune will change once they start to take your food and start to get too close to your home.”
Her words were bitter. Adaman frowned while he watched her go, Akari could sense the gears turning in his head at Irida’s words and she quietly tried to move away. Never had she wanted Ingo at her side more than in this very instance. She wished swimming came as naturally to her as did to either of the two clan leaders who she was trying to evade, because she needed to get out of there right away.
The kelp rustled and swayed around Akari as she climbed up the long strand, keeping low until she thought she was a safe enough distance from the lingering mer, but she realized her mistake when she poked her head out from the refuge of the dense column (she didn’t realize how long she had been sitting and listening until her lungs began to burn in protest). The water column, usually teaming with small darting fish and the occasional sea otter, was utterly devoid of life. Akari knew that meant a predator was around, but she didn’t realize what kind of predator that meant.
Her immediate instinct was to hide and stay hidden until the danger had passed, but she didn’t expect the swiping hand that snagged her away from her kelp. She yelped, this was not the familiar hand that gently guided her around in this forest, but it was equally gentle with her. Akari was swung around to face Adaman who appraised her silently, holding her fast as she squirmed. The words escaped Akari before she knew what she was saying.
“D-Don’t eat me!”
Adaman blinked, his brown eyes softening and his voice considerable gentler when compared to the conversation she just overheard.
“Eat you? Who would give you such a funny idea?”
His expression changed subtly when he noticed her sniffling and trying to shrink in his hand. This pup was terrified of him. He had to keep looking at her closely, because she simply looked too old to have such a pure white coat. There were many contradictions here but there was a part of Adaman that only saw a pup, small and fragile and so clearly afraid. Was she one of Pearl clans? Why was she out here? These were all questions that pressed on his mind.
“Hey, it’s okay.”
He tried to sooth, but it was hopeless. She was just so distressed and floppy. He didn’t want to crush her, but she was so small and getting to be too hard to hold on to. Akari squirmed free and bolted, an unexpected competence for swimming striking her brain like lightning as it screamed at her to get as far away from him as possible.
Akari had several disadvantages here, but so did the clan leader. Adaman was bigger and faster than her, he was quickly catching up to her, and he seemed very invested in getting her back. Akari was small and, although her coat was a bright beacon to the eye, she could get lost in the foliage rather easily, which meant Adaman had to rely on his less reliable sense of smell and hearing to locate the pup.
What little air was in her lungs was being spent in her escape, but the panic suffusing Akari’s brain had that as a low priority in comparison to fleeing. She was on the verge of passing out, tossing a look over her shoulder to see if she had a moment to take a breath, when she barreled straight into the back of a different mer. This one instantly recognizable to Akari’s senses and he seemed to know instantly that she needed air.
Ingo didn’t mean to grab her so roughly, but he could tell by the heat emanating off her body and the hazy look in her eyes that she needed oxygen badly. He rocketed up through the water, away from whatever the perceived threat was, and thrust Akari to the surface. The poor girl gasped and spluttered, her hand gripping Ingo’s finger so tightly as her panic and adrenaline drained from her.
“Warden?”
Ingo jumped at the familiar voice, half turning to see Adaman emerging from the kelp. Oh no.
“Lord Adaman.”
He replied, offering a nod as he frantically tried to formulate an excuse for himself and Akari’s presence here, but, oddly enough, Adaman came to his rescue.
“This one of Pearl clan’s pups that escaped the pools?”
Ingo almost choked, so grateful that he did not have to come up with a lie. He lowered Akari slowly back into the water so she knew what was going on, she would be instrumental in the lie.
“Y-Yes, I was sent to retrieve her! How did you know she was from one of the pools?”
Adaman glanced between the pup and the warden, only momentarily wondering if Ingo had been the one to fill the pup’s head with lies about Diamond clan eating any stray pups, but that seemed more like Gaeric’s style than Ingo’s.
“I’ve been hearing some unusual things from Sabi… You should tell Irida to keep a better watch of your pups.”
Akari, still breathing heavily, felt Ingo stiffen at the careless words of the clan leader, but didn’t say anything. Adaman moved forward, hesitating when the pup flinched, and just looking rather blatantly at her coat. Were things really that bad for Pearl clan that their pups were stunted? Was the food storage a lot worse than Irida was letting on?
“Sorry for frighting you, little one. Don’t stray too far from home. Here.”
Without much warning, Adaman reached out and snatched an unseen fish from the kelp around them, trying to hand it to her as a sort of olive branch. She only took it after some prodding from Ingo, but Adaman gave her an easy smile and bid the duo farewell.
Ingo and Akari didn’t move from that spot for at least ten whole minutes. The warden did not admonish her, in fact he didn’t say a word, he just looked exhausted.
“I’m sorry.”
She squeaked, knowing he had probably run all over looking for her to confirm her safety. Safety was important to him, but none quite so important as hers. Ingo sighed and nodded, just glad they just managed to squeak out of that encounter mostly unscathed. Adaman had seen her and clearly her appearance had some impact on him in one way or another. Ingo had resolved to keep the girl by his side at all times in the future to avoid such encounters in the future.

Hello! I saw that your requests were open from your Emmet & Ingo headcanons post, and I was wondering if you could write some more headcanons for Ingo, but from Legends of Arceus? Curious to hear what difference you'd think that would make ^^
~ @littlest-tortle
Gladly!!!

Caregiver:
☁️ Warden Ingo ☁️
Tumblr media
°
☁️ While he doesn't remember what caregivers or littles are, he falls into the role of caregiver easily and naturally.
°
☁️ Works well with littles of all ages but has a preference for littles on the younger side.
°
☁️ VERRRRYYY protective! Hisui is a dangerous place, especially for a little! He's ready to fight at all times when you're around with him.
°
☁️ Very strict, too, especially with daytime schedules when you're little. You have to stay near him at all times, and if not with him, you're with Lady Sneasler.
°
☁️ You get to ride in Lady Sneasler's basket. That's right, you get basket privileges! (Or you get put in there if there's danger)
°
☁️ Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of little gear in Hisui, and Ingo doesn't remember a lot of the things that were used for children at that time. He might be able to talk to some parents in the Pearl Clan about any child supplies they may have or recommend.
°
☁️ If you are lucky, you might be able to find some things that fell through a new rift, like a teether, or a fidget or two!
°
☁️ Yes, he will pick you up and carry you around, and it's fairly easy for him, too! Surviving in Hisui is rough, and he adapted well.
°
☁️ A lot of your time when little is either spent in the walls of the Pearl Clan or in Lady Sneasler's cave.
°
☁️ Get in the Sneasel pile. You're one of the kits now >:3
°
☁️ Ingo now stocks Poison heals and such, just for you!
°
☁️ He carries some Berries with him as a snack for you when you guys are adventuring together.
°
☁️ Naptime is HUGE, especially if the kits are involved! You end up in a giant cuddle pile each time :)
°
☁️ Ingo is fairly low energy, but he is good at playtime and keeping up with even the most energetic littles! He is a little stiff with the more imaginative games, though, but after a few games, he gets into the roles pretty well!
°
☁️ Akira/Ren end up being your babysitters or older siblings when you have Ingo as a caregiver, it's near automatic.
°
☁️ Unfortunately, he won't allow you to wear his cap or coat. But! He'll allow you to wear his Pearl Clan tunic!
°
☁️ In all, Warden Ingo is a great, very protective caregiver! His main goal is to keep you safe and happy when little ^^

I hope you liked this!! Requests are still open :3

I just had a fic idea
There's been reports of unnaturally strong winds around the top of Mt Coronet for a few days now. Cynthia goes up to Spear pillar to investigate only to find what appears to be a glowing crack on the temples floor. She goes back to grab Elite 4 backup because the last time something like this happened was Giratina.
When they all near the top the winds grow further still. And when they reach Spear pillar there's a blinding rainbow like light. Emerging from which are someone who looks a lot like that missing guy from Unova and what is unmistakably the former champion who disappeared a couple of years into her reign. Both look a bit older and a lot more hardened

Tried my hands on a Sneasel that matches my style more. Still a bit stiff and too small next to Ingo but that‘s just something to improve on in the future
Also love the works that show Ingo being swarmed by Sneasels so I wanted to try that with a bunch of weasel sized Sneasels. We have so much Sneasel cat representation. Where‘s the weasel rep?! HERE IT IS!

HISUI PMD AU
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I’ve been going through a bit of another rough period lately and have turned back to my DS system, one of the few gaming consoles that doesn’t seem to terribly hurt my hand (yay!!)
I picked up PMD Sky again, and seeing as I had reset my file at some point but didn’t make a new one, I inserted Ingo and Akari into it — Cyndaquil for Ingo (hero), and Eevee for Akari (partner)!
I think it’s very fitting since Hero character has total amnesia except for remembering their name, and Partner character is someone with an outgoing personality who’s just joining a guild.
I’ve been getting really attached to it, and so I’ve been thinking about a little AU with some adjustments to it. Hence these doodles I’ve been working on for the last few days (mostly warmups/practice to try and tighten linework with my non-dominant hand, so no hatching or handwritten words for this one ^^;).
I may develop more to this. It’s been so so fun!!

Love is a Cold Bowl of Soup (Part One)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been working on this one for a bit. I hope you enjoy!! Thanks to Monsoon-of-Art for the beta! Don't want to read it on Tumblr? I have it on AO3!
Summary: Akari's been tasked to find some ingredients for soup and learns to ask for help from the people in her life.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Sootfoot root -Medicinal leeks -Vegetable broth -Moomoo milk -Wild garlic -Crunchy Salt -Pep-Up plant
Akari didn’t know exactly that the professor had in mind when he asked her and Rei to go find these things, but it seemed to be some sort of recipe. She followed in the wake of the man clad in Security Corp red, dividing her attention between the list and the path they trekked.
A grimace came to her face as she recalled the last time the professor had tried to be adventurous with foreign recipes and native ingredients. The poor captain had been sick for almost two days. Akari hadn’t fared too well herself, but she powered through like always.
Now the professor was on this new kick, and he was gleefully cryptic about it - needless to say, it worried everyone. They all knew Laventon meant well, but nobody wanted to be decommissioned by some toxic concoction.
Akari herself was already constructing her excuses. She was nervous about battling Ingo on the Path of Solitude (battling Ingo usually scared the daylights out of her- he was so tough!) and couldn’t stomach anything or Wanda had mysteriously disappeared again (Akari knew she would perform a vanishing act the second the noxious smell of whatever the professor was cooking wafted down the hall). It couldn’t be directly Pokémon related, because then the professor would be inclined to accompany the Survey Corps’ top member.
Akari’s breath began to pick up with a sharp incline that preceded that pass to the highlands basecamp. She was caked in mud from trudging through the marshes in search of some halfway decent Sootfoot. The professor said he needed about thirty or so.
“About this big.”
He had said, holding out his fist so she could get a sense of what he needed. The leeks had been easy. The fieldlands were teaming with them. Akari had also gathered the vegetables that Beni needed to make the professor’s broth. She had sent those back with some of the Security Corp as they were headed back to town, that way Beni could get started right away. With all his hemming and hawing, Akari was surprised he agreed at all, she had definitely heard him mumble something about how a new spate of food poisoning would affect business at the Wall Flower.
She couldn’t blame the old man, the influx of customers who were too terrified of any of the food served in Galaxy Hall usually meant they were streaming into his restaurant, which was good for business but bad for his back.
Akari’s eyes quickly flicked to the peak of Mount Coronet when they reached basecamp. She couldn’t help it. It was so strange to see the sky above it so empty. Not that she wasn’t glad that all she saw was blue sky, but it still made her chest tighten to think of all that happened up there.
Dialga and Palkia, Volo and Giratina - suddenly she was very conscious of the Arc phone resting heavily on her hip and its sudden weight made her shiver. Her invitation from the being who put her here was still fresh in her mind. Ever since she completed Cogita’s request to catch Enamorus, she had felt a draw toward the peak as her curiosity ate at her.
Why?
Why was she here? Why her? These questions still took up a corner of her mind, solid and unbearable to contemplate. Akari would lie very still at night and just stare above her without seeing. Not so much in Jubilife with a roof over her head. When she found herself under a blanket of stars, bathed in moonlight with a cool breeze rustling her unbound hair, she asked herself why and she could feel tears sting her eyes.
She asked an uncaring cosmos why she was here, and she was met with silence. A silent, dark phone. A dreamless, restless sleep. The silence spoke volumes, so Akari learned to stop asking… But not completely.
Her hands curled into fists as she refitted her pack and exchanged her Pokémon for ones that would be more suited to battles in the highlands. Akari’s selection included Samurott, Yanmega, Roserade, Froslass, Alakazam, and Arcanine. Samurott looked over her shoulder while Akari rummaged through the trunk containing her possessions, grabbing some extra balls and potions.
She was still trying to find some Cherrim to jump out at her from the trees and she might as well try to find as many shaking trees as possible while she was here. Last time she had come to the highland, she had spent over a month there trying to get Nosepass to jump out from ore deposits and had almost given up on multiple occasions.
Her Pokémon nudged her side carefully, doing his best not to gore her and his diligence earned him an affectionate scratch on the cheek. He grumbled his approval, offering her a playful nip which made her sour expression disappear. She thanked the Security Corp, returned her Samurott to the confines of his ball, and withdrew her flute from her belt.
The instrument had undergone a drastic change not too long ago. Although her fellow Galaxy Team members didn’t seem to notice anything strange in her flute, Akari brought it hesitantly to her lips and just as quickly lowered it.
Adaman had taught her how to use the Celestica flute, the wardens had guided her through the familiar melodies that all the Nobles seemed to respond to, but nobody taught her about this instrument. It still sounded like the original, the music still possessed its haunting and echoey tone, but this blue flute held no resemblance to the one she had been gifted.
Akari hadn’t shown a soul this new flute. She was afraid how any of them would react. She exhaled and brought the flute to her lips, playing Lord Wyrdeer’s song. Despite her hand placement feeling weird and the notes quivering with uncertainty, the lord of the field still answered her call. She could see him trotting up the pass, appearing out of the mist with a small bob of his great head, acknowledging Akari as she clambered up onto his back and patting his neck in reply. Without prompting, the noble took off in the direction of Wayward Cave.
The lady of the cliffs snickered, exchanging a few unintelligible words with Lord Wyrdeer right before he took his leave. Lady Sneasler tousled the girl’s hair and then summarily dumped Akari into her basket so she could haul the surveyor up and down the cliffs to collect salt. Akari really only needed a few chunks of salt, but she found the rocking motion soothing as Sneasler scrambled around the rock face with ease. She gave no direction after collecting all she needed and Sneasler chirped with delight when Akari gave her free reign to go where she wanted.
What was the professor going to make? It seemed to be some kind of soup, but no kind of soup she had ever heard of. Maybe it was Galarian or something? They had some very strange ideas about food and flavors sometimes… At the bottom of Clamberclaw Cliffs, she saw herself out of the basket and turned to thank the Pokémon, but the noble was already taking her leave. She did at least turn to acknowledge Akari’s announcement of thanks, dangling by one paw and snorted before hauling herself over the lip of the cliff.
On her own once again and suddenly not really in the mood to head back to any of the basecamps, Akari started wandering.
She wanted to keep her mind clear, forcing her eyes in front of her rather than on the looming peak above her. Looming was the right word, wasn’t it? It felt overbearing, like unseen eyes were burning into her and invisible hands were grabbing at her.
Come find me. Face me.
No.
Not yet.
She wasn’t ready.
Her work wasn’t done. The Pokédex was unfinished. So many people still needed her help. She folded her arms and half hunched, trudging along. She had fallen from the sky almost two years ago. She had almost resigned herself to the fact that Hisui was her home now.
Ingo had been here for seven years and still held a glimmer of hope that he might someday at least remember home. He held no delusions about returning. He had built his life, he cemented himself in his community, but he never quite gave up on the life he couldn’t quite recall.
Akari had done likewise.
She grew roots. People liked her. People relied on her. She couldn’t let them down… She sniffled, feeling her legs wobble because the weight of the world hadn’t been quite removed from her shoulders. It was a terrible burden.
“Why did you do this to me?”
She asked, voice trembling as badly as her shoulders with how hard she tried to hold in her sobs.
Akari tried so hard not to cry in front of others. Only a few people had caught her - she did her best to hide herself away when she got weepy - and they had tried to offer her comfort, tried to be supportive, but nobody really understood. Not the full extent of it. Akari couldn’t explain. She barely understood herself. An enigmatic force took her from her room in her pajamas and told her to complete a task. She was trying while more and more got piled on to her shoulders. It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t right!
Laventon had clucked sympathetically when she had burst into tears after learning she was tasked with dealing with Lord Kleavor. He wrapped an arm around her, offering her a clean handkerchief from his pocket that Akari took with shaking hands.
His presence at her side felt warm and comforting, like when she had a tough day and her mother wrapped up in her arms, kissing the top of her head while she murmured that it was okay. He still didn’t know this teenager well enough to provide her the comfort she really needed, but he tried. He was one of the few she actually sought out when things really started to weigh on her, but not recently.
Not with this.
Rei had nervously shifted on his feet when he found Akari crying in her bed, still in her sleepwear and hair a tangled mess. She had been up half the night tossing and turning, suffocating under the weight of her responsibility. He didn’t know what to say, but quickly obeyed when she barked out at him to get out, especially with her then team at the time (Dewott, Lopunny, Stunky, Staravia, Drifblim, and Tangela) bullying him out the door.
He waited outside and awkwardly slapped her on the shoulder, his encouraging smile more of a grimace than anything else. She had resolved at the time not to cry in front of anyone else, no matter how much it hurt. Not too long after that resolution, the sky began to bleed.
Mai had seen her cry when she had been banished and she tucked a strand of hair behind Akari’s ear while she tried to stave her own tears. She held the gasping girl tight and apologized over and over again.
The warden’s heart went out to this poor girl, but there was nothing she could do with her. Not directly. Mai was the first person to tell Akari she was sorry. Not a soul in Hisui had said it as earnestly as Mai had, and it only served to make her sob harder.
She just wanted someone to treat her like the kid she was for one damn second. Not a savior. Not an outsider. Just a teenager.
Akari had buried her face in Mai’s shoulder and just stayed with the warden until not a drop remained. There was nothing the clans could do for her. Akari took her leave. Volo found her not a few hours later.
Cogita knew the most about Akari’s situation, even without her telling the woman much. Akari got the impression that Cogita knew a lot more than she let on, just like Volo, and she was as transparent as she could be with the mysterious woman.
She had spoken to her gently, calling her ‘lost one’ but not unkindly. She offered Akari a cup of tea, just like the professor did on bad days, which only made her tears grow hotter in her anguish. The life she was trying to build for herself as she tried to make the best of her situation was so abruptly and harshly torn from her that she didn’t know what to do but cry in front of this perfect stranger.
Cogita had been sensible enough to give her some space but nudged the warm cup closer to her hands in a silent encouragement to drink.
When she had been granted permission to return to Jubilife and she was able to convince herself that she could come back in relative safety, Akari started battling at the dojo more often. She didn’t want to be caught off guard again and she reasoned that by having a strong body like Captain Zisu’s and strong Pokémon like Warden Ingo’s then she wouldn’t fear being banished again.
Not without a fight at least.
She found herself battling Ingo as often as she trained with Zisu. Akari wasn’t always victorious, but the warden was always aiming her towards victory.
After one particularly grueling battle, one that had seen the change from an orange dusk to a blue-black evening, Ingo had ended up as the victor.
Gliscor had made a beeline for his trainer, screeching happily with the outcome and Ingo chuckled, scrubbing the Pokémon’s cheeks before turning to Akari. Her face had been cast down, her Abomasnow lay a few feet away, but she made no move to return her or aid her Pokémon in any fashion. It was very unlike Akari.
Ingo had already launched into a rousing speech, but his words faltered as the number of inconsistencies started to add up in his mind. The girl’s hands were curled into shaking fists at her sides. Her shoulders were quivering. She bowed her head lower, trying in vain to scramble for a ball that her trembling fingers couldn’t manage to grip, only just managing to flip the lock on the ball to have her Pokémon return to her.
“Miss Akari?”
She cringed, jerking away like she was burned. Was she crying? Because she lost? She had never cried before, but this seemed different somehow.
Ingo did not consider himself a warm and fuzzy kind of guy, but something stirred in his mind when he saw young Akari crying and trying to hide that fact from him. She rubbed at her obscured eyes with her sleeve, trying to sniffle quietly - the sight felt oddly familiar.
He was frozen for a moment, a not so clear memory coming to him because he had done this. He had comforted someone else -someone very close to him- many times before his arrival to Hisui. He returned his Pokémon and reached Akari in two strides, he started to reach for her but hesitated.
“Come this way, Akari.”
Ingo coaxed her gently, hand extended. He didn’t want to grab her, despite the ghost of an impulse to hug her tightly seizing him, he knew not to infringe on other’s space like that. Not without permission. Akari looked up at him through tear flecked lashes, her mouth drawn into a tight grimace as she attempted not to burst into tears. She took his hand easily.
Zisu was on her break with the other dojo regulars at the Wallflower, so he ushered her inside the empty building and sat her on a bench. He resisted the urge to interrogate her, she would only rebuff him until she stormed away to seek the safety and privacy of her quarters.
She hid her face in her hands, body heaving with silent sobs with her shoulders tensed up by her ears. He asked her if it was okay to hold her and she jerked her head, making a small noise of assent. Tears dribbled from the cracks between Akari’s fingers - she didn’t even know what had brought on the sudden waterworks.
She felt a sudden weight being draped over her shoulders, it startled Akari enough to look up as the warden took a seat beside her.
His coat was sun bleached and torn, but still retained heat and deflected all sorts of precipitation well and she was grateful for it on this cool autumn evening. She drew the lapels in tighter and remained huddled there for a moment, keeping her eyes firmly on the ground. Ingo didn’t ask why.
He just let her cry and occasionally rubbed her back between shoulder blades in an encouraging sort of way, like he was silently telling her it was okay to cry.
It was okay to feel sad or overwhelmed or scared or whatever she was feeling. She was safe and he was there if she wanted to talk about it. Although, that thought hadn’t quite clicked for Akari yet as she hiccuped an apology.
“I’m sorry. I… I don’t know why I’m crying.”
“We don’t always have to know exactly why we feel a certain way. Just that we feel it and that we be allowed to express ourselves. You don’t have to apologize for it.”
The words had a soothing effect, she leaned against his side and Ingo didn’t budge. There was an old ache in his heart because he knew he shared a similar sentiment before.
The warden only left her side to light a few lanterns in the dark interior of the dojo and to brew some tea, otherwise Ingo remained steadfast at her side. The sound of brook running through Jubilife and the distant chirps of Kricketots harmonizing soothed the girl, eventually her breathing evened out and tear tracks down her cheeks had dried.
She thanked him.
She didn’t explain, but she thanked him for just being there for her.
There were no prying eyes this time, no one to bear witness to these tears. Nobody to console the girl that fell from the sky. They were kind, but it had taken so long to get there.
It had taken so long to feel safe when she was thrown into this situation. She had performed every painstaking task - she had the scars to prove each and every one. She endured and she had been thanked, but it didn’t feel like enough.
Did that make her selfish?
Did that make her petty?
Why should a seventeen-year-old have to consider such things?
A long snout nudged into her cheek. Her Samourott insisted for her attention, rumbling out his concern as he nosed her again. She felt something cool snuggling into one side and something thorny jabbing her other side, Froslass and Roserade offering their comfort.
Arcanine’s warm muzzle nudged her other cheek, whimpering and gently nipping at her hands to lick at her face.
Yanmega’s bristly, twig-like legs rested on her shoulders, his thorax running the length of her back, with every buzz of his wings making her vision blur.
Alakazam sat in front of her, the Pokémon’s hands extended Akari could see between her fingers, holding out for her to take hold of them. Samarott also started trying to nip at her hands, trying to pry her hands away, and finally Akari relented.
Her Pokémon surrounded her, and she felt a knot in her chest loosen. Air suddenly found its way into her lungs. The tightness in her throat eased. She was loved. Even so far away from her home, her true home, Akari was loved.
Her Pokémon loved her. They stuck by her through and through on this whole journey. They had their own scars to prove it. She was loved.
Irida and Adaman loved her. They risked everything to help her. They were like the older siblings she never had.
The captain loved her… In her own special way. When she got banished, the captain gave her the tools and encouragement necessary to save them all because she believed in Akari. She told the girl that she expected her back in one piece, which was probably the closest Akari would ever get to hearing motherly concern from her captain.
Professor Laventon loved her. He watched every moment of her progress with beaming pride.
Yes, it had hurt. It hurt that nobody seemed to trust her. It hurt that nobody seemed to have any sympathy for the teenager. It hurt that Arceus didn’t answer when she asked why.
It hurt to think that she would never see her mom again. Her best friend who she had made plans to go to lunch with next week. Her dad was going to visit from overseas next month. Her little Glameow she named Glitter.
Akari was allowed to mourn and cry and be upset about the injustice of it all, but she shouldn’t have to hide that pain.
When she resolved not to cry, to keep her pain to herself, she isolated herself from those around her.
How could they possibly understand?
Well, how could they understand unless she opened up and explained it to them? She had only ever done that with Cogita and the woman hadn’t overstepped her boundaries but she was wholly sympathetic to Akari’s case. How could she expect these people to understand if she didn’t give them the whole story?
Akari thanked all her Pokémon and returned them to their balls. She pushed the heels over her hands into her burning eyes and stood very still for a moment.
She had been wrong.
Trust is a two-way street, and she didn’t trust the Galaxy Team or the clans to understand her plight. She had never given them a chance.
“Still…”
Like all people who were trying to be emotionally vulnerable, Akari was hesitant to do so. She knew who to talk to first and she just so happened to have to make a delivery to him.

Get in losers, we’re going climbing.

I like to imagine Lady Sneasler is chatty with Ingo, and while the two can’t understand the nuance of each others words they can certainly understand the vibes.
Masterlist for my submas stuff!

He’s doing great!
On a side note, here’s Ingo!
Tumblr media
Ingo’s fighting very hard to retire from Wardenship after seeing a whole train fall from the sky and land on the other side of Hisui. Unfortunately, this is a track he can not disembark until either him or Sneasler become permanently indisposed.
Tumblr media
He’s also doing great! Don’t worry about it!

"Are you waiting on a train?"
You may need to click on the image for better resolution.
Some context for the image under the cut:
It was common for Pokemon and items to slip through the space-time distortions. What made this occasion memorable was that an entire train station platform slipped through during the night.
Akari went to investigate when she heard the report. Despite it being early in the morning, she wasn't the first one to arrive. Ingo was there, sitting on a bench, deep in thought.
"Hey, Ingo," Akari greeted as she sat down beside him, cradling her sleeping Rowlet, "Are you waiting on a train?"
"Good morning, Miss Akari," Ingo said, blinking as if waking from a dream. "I'm afraid no trains will be coming into the station today. The tracks stop after a point, uncoupling this station from its sister stop."
"Maybe they'll be reconnected one day? After we sort out this whole space-time distortion stuff."
"That would be the most favorable outcome, yes."
Ingo relapsed into his thoughts, a shadow cast over him. A hush fell over the trio.
When the sun rose far enough into the sky to burn away some of the fog hanging around the station, Ingo finally stood up and readjusted his worn out hat.
"Let's prepare for departure, Miss Akari! It's an excellent day to make tracks in your journey."
"Yes, let's!" Akari sprang up, eager to start the day.
