These are all the fabrics I was using. Here's the pattern piece I have and all the math I had to do. It is so much math to do all of these diamonds. A lot of pinning this. Just doing the front pieces took me a whole day to do but extremely, extremely worth it.

So my embroidery machine is embroidering some quotes from the movie which was requested by the customer. Um my dog is saying hi.

I'm doing lots of hand sewing. Here's a check to see if I like how it fits. A lot of hand sewing went into getting the lining to fit right and I'm adding the details to the shoulders and the rest of the sleeves to match like the vibe of the front. And here's what it looks like.

This is how Howl wears it in the beginning of the movie. And this is what it looks like with the arms in the sleeves. And there's a little tiny surprise inside that was requested by the customer. It's a little Calcifer! Thank you so much for watching!]

Katsucon 2020: A Cosplayer’s Review

Contests, Video Games, and Artist/Merch Alleys

Katsucon featured contests that could be considered “usual” for a convention. These contests were the Masquerade, the Hall Costume Contest, and an AMV contest. Due to the Masquerade being a little late in the day for me (and the fact I was in 4 inch platforms for a few hours beforehand), I didn’t attend. A little more information about Masquerades, a group or singular person will dress up and perform a skit for the crowd. Prizes are usually for craftsmanship and performance. I did, however, apply my Litwick costume for the Hall costume contest. The Hall Costume contest is like a Masquerade, but for people who’d do better without a massive crowd in front of them. I didn’t win anything this time but next time, I’ll do my best!

The video game hall was a massive room, with games ranging from Smash Bros to anime themed Pachinko machines. I tried my hand at a Trigun themed Pachinko. I didn’t know what I was doing, but I can recognize losing! I even saw a Ranma themed Pachinko machine! 

Last stop were the Artist and Merch alleys. I had the pleasure of seeing many talented artists such as @catcrossingart and @pocketbean. Going through all of the various art, clothing, and other nerdy merch was enchanting. Of course after all of the money I spent on hotel, food, and gas, I felt like a poor person looking into the window of a buffet. The same could be said for the Merch Alley. So many things to buy, so little money. In the end I was able to buy some one dollar retired con shirts, earrings, and some hair pom pom things. Regardless of how small it is, I’m still happy with my con haul. Quality over quantity y’know!

Overall score: 9/10

Now I know it’s kind of...pretentious; having my first convention review be such a high rating. Even so, I feel like after reading my posts you see why. While there were a few ball drops such as not having a panel schedule easily accessible online and even a small group of staff members missing a shift at the Masquerade sign ups, I feel it was very well executed for how large it is. This con ate up a lot of space, had a lot of people, and were even asking for more volunteers during the convention. For these factors to affect them in such a insignificant way that they could still run a functioning convention, they deserve a 9. Good job Katsucon. I’ll definitely return next year.
