I’m absolutely losing my ass over how it was done in The Maze Runner. Thomas never ONCE “no homo”s Newt, HE DOES however “no hetero” Teresa in The Fever Code..

Thomally, I'm a thomally shipper as much as a thominho one. All I have to say is MAJOR "he loves me, he loves me not" vibes from some parts of the books. Thomas has (mostly) forgiven Gally for killing Chuck, as he was under the control of WCKD. This ship would need an uncanon storyline to help it, but it is a good ship if done properly in this book

Thoresa, okay. This one is mostly platonic. Thomas canonically friendzones her, so I don't ship them romantically, but the friendly vibes are real (RIP Newt and Teresa BTW)

Hiya Hope! Sorry this took me so long to respond!! I was a bit busy. And I have no problem with Trenda! They aren't my preferred ship anymore, but I will tell you they were what I was hoping was endgame when I read the books as a teenager so definitely see the appeal 😉

Anyways, so, 1, 2, 3 and 5. Let's GO!

Who would end a heated argument by defending their actions with "because I love you!"

Thomas. 100%. Thomas would do something protective (that Brenda doesn't need/want/won't admit to needing/wanting) and she would start arguing with him about how he doesn't need to be a hero and he would get frustrated and eventually it would culminate into "because I love you!" and Brenda would deadpan stare him in the face and go "you are such an idiot, that's not a good reason at all." but would secretly be very touched.

If Brenda would even get close to saying something like this, it would be much more she enacted revenge against someone who treated Thomas shittily (like keying their car or something) and Thomas would go "that's wrong!" and she would be far more cavalier about it.

2. What would they do if the other woke in a manic state after a nightmare?

I could see this happening with Thomas a lot and Brenda in the beginning tried to block him. Tried to get him to stay down, stay in bed, everything's alright, just keep reminding him. But that would only confuse and upset him more and then he'd feel bad later for getting upset. Now she kind of rolls with it (something Jorge told her to do) and makes sure to keep him in check. So if he wakes up in a panic and starts trying to run or go somewhere, she links arms with him and follows his lead and tries to whisper placations and keep him on track and keep him from doing anything dangerous but overall just makes sure that he knows she has his back.

For Brenda, I think she just needs weight. Containment and assurances. Thomas would wrap himself around her and lock her arms in and would just start talking about nothing. Lots of chatting, things that would normally make her laugh, things that would normally make her mock him. Just talk and talk and talk and pet her hair and slowly ease her back into bed.

3. Do they wear the other's clothes?

Brenda's a notorious sweatshirt stealer, not only of Thomas's, but literally all of her guy friends (she's platonic flirty in that way). Of Thomas's stuff specifically, she really likes wearing his basketball shorts and one of his old t-shirts. He particularly likes his t-shirts on her.

Of Brenda's... there's this old coat (that was definitely Jorge's) that she wears a lot that he'll throw on when he's going outside in the winter. It smells like her and makes him think of her. He also occasionally, if this is movie!verse Brenda, will wear the necklace of hers that has the picture of her brother when she's having a hard time. That way she still gets to keep it but she's not the one carrying that weight.

5. Describe their cozy night in.

I think they stay in bed all day. If it's modern au, they order pizza and layout newspaper over their covers and eat in bed. Thomas reads aloud for a while or Brenda plays her music. If it's canon world they listen to the sounds of Safe Haven bustling around them and work on little side projects. They talk every so often but I think after everything that happened, quiet quality time is often all they need.

that she is a bitch that can't fight off her own kindness. her instinct with jorge is self-preservation and survival, but she can't fight helping the gladers, forming bonds with them, sacrificing herself and her safety for them. she seems cold but she can't fight her innate kindness. her own capacity for love. and she can still retain her personality and fierceness among the love but it's that own struggle against herself that i love exploring

book!brenda in particular is obsessed with thomas romantically and i really hate it. both in that i hate trenda as a ship but also because consensually a lot of stuff is icky. movie!brenda would never though

ironically, trenda lmfao. romantically i hate them in every way imaginable but on a platonic level they are like soulmates to me. the parallel in the death cure of "you never know when to walk away from something even when you should" like they are that level of friendship where you can call someone out on their shit and neither party will be mad about it. they are in so many ways similar to each other but enough of their personalities differ that they can either pull the other back from the edge or encourage them when need be.

okay so i'm notably not a multishipper but i love both brenderesa and brinho in equal measure and have never been able to choose between the two. i guess brenderesa technically has leverage since i haven't written brinho yet but that's my own achilles heel to bear.

brenderesa as i said before has essentially no canon basis and exists entirely in my head. i love how messy and complicated they are. like they can be incredibly toxic to each other but god help them if they ever learn how to communicate they could flourish.

brinho has like a crumb of canon basis but that was enough for me in 2015 reading the death cure to be like O_O and i have never looked back. i've said it many times but they can make each other worse and better. i will pay someone to write a safe haven brinho fic.

nOTP

as mentioned earlier i fucking hate trenda so much. both for the weird nonconsensual stuff in the books but also because everything about it feels so forced. again this is mostly book stuff but brenda was so clearly set up as a teresa alternative and the trilogy ending with them kissing was so like ??? okay feels like a weird time for this but sure. the movies luckily dial back on this a LOT but any time they interacted in the scorch trials especially i got a weird icky feeling.

random headcanon

in modern aus she always has to be into punk music. i also usually make her into roller skating/derby. both of these are incredibly self-indulgent.

canonverse i did not make this up myself but sometimes think i dreamed it because i have never found the source. but. in the safe haven, every morning she gets up and runs, sprints, times herself. separately, minho is also running. eventually their paths meet, and they silently join each other on their runs. brenda is running because she couldn't save newt; brinho runs because it's all he's ever known.

i don't really see gallenda. like i understand the reasons but i personally can't get into it. maybe it's because i cap out at 2 ships but
