hotd episode 5 thoughts
rip rhea royce, you seemed cool so even though i knew your death was coming i’m a bit sad about it. at least you got to bully daemon before the end.
loved that we got to see larys strong do a bit of scheming and i am quite excited to see where his character will go.
house velaryon and driftmark seem extremely cool, hope we do end up getting a spin-off about them someday.
corlys i am TRYING to stan you but trying to marry off your daughter at 12 and saying your gay son “will grow out of it” is not great behavior.
i do love that rhaenys and corlys are a total power couple who clearly respect and love each other a lot.
i liked the the scene of rhaenyra and laenor walking on the beach and forming their alliance/friendship very much since i’ve always interpreted them as being friends.
i’m glad we got to see some of the relationship between laenor and joffrey before things went south, they seemed really good together and i do wish they had gotten their life of a king consort and his sworn bodyguard.
of the different rumors surrounding rhaenyra and criston cole’s falling-out i have always thought the one where he suggested they run away together and she turned him down made the most sense so i’m glad they went with that one.
i also appreciated that his bitterness towards her is not just “criston’s crush doesn’t like him as much as he likes her” but also his sense of ruined honor.
i Do Not Trust grand maester mellos, something is up with that man. please stop with the leeches i swear to god.
the velaryons entering the wedding was ICONIC, they are legends, they are the moment, i love them.
it was nice seeing seasmoke and meleys but where! is! vhagar!
lyonel strong remains the only person on this show with common sense.
daemon showing up to rhaenyra’s wedding feast despite being in exile was legendary, i expected no less.
also rhaenyra being mean to him when they were dancing and throwing his words back at him was excellent.
alicent entering the feast in her green dress and calling rhaenyra “stepdaughter” was such a power move i literally cannot wait for her villain era.
that wedding was So Fucking Stressful even though i knew going in roughly what was going to happen i was on the edge of my seat.
oh joffrey, if only you were not so good at sussing out who is sleeping together and criston could be normal about his break-up things might have had a much happier ending :(
was hoping we would get more than the few harwin strong crumbs that we did buuuut it seems like he’ll be important in episode 6.
i’m going to miss milly alcock and emily carey but i cannot WAIT to see emma d’arcy and olivia cooke, they are going to absolutely kill it

HOTD Episode 7 Thoughts and Easter Eggs
Shoutout to Daemon’s helmet in the opening credits and now flowing into Rhaenerya’s symbol. Credits move so fast it is hard to catch things within it.
Opening with this scene is heartbreaking but I enjoyed not having a huge time jump this episode. Also Rhaena being held by Rhaenys is a great way to show that in the ten years time they were apart, they must have still spent time with one another because they are close.
Otto with that stupid pin pisses me right off, but to me seeing them zoom right in on that pin on his chest is to emphasize just how easily Otto was able to become HAND OF THE KING - arguably the most important role in court someone could have - and the man who banished him for being a snake and untrustworthy has somehow allowed him to return to court. (Also, you can see that he bites/picks his nails like Alicent). Say what you want about his health, but if Viserys were a strong man (like Daemon has always said), this would never have even been entertained, and yet here we are.
Daemon is losing it during the funeral while Vaemond Velaryon is speaking, and rightfully so. The poor guy sees through all the falsities and knows that every person involved in the throne is playing the same game. Low blow from the Verlaryon’s to say their true blood runs thick and may never run thin while looking right at Rhaenyra. This episode really drove home the point that Rhaenyra is at the very end of her rope with trying to claim her children are not the children of Harwin Strong. It is becoming impossible for her father to defend her against the opinions of the public.
They mention the Merling King during the eulogy - this is the God who rules over the Narrow Sea. That is obviously a book reference, and in the house Velaryon, it is believed that Driftwood Throne was a gift from the Merlin King to their family to conclude a pact.
The opening scene following the funeral with the dragons flying together again over Driftmark is fairly symbolic; we know that by the end of the episode they will never all be together again harmoniously.
Alicent knows what’s up as soon as she sees Rhaenyra and Daemon in the same area. I like how they shot the scene with everyone on the patio area because you can feel how awkward it is, with all the tiny pockets of people and hardly anyone talking. It’s also a great visual tool to show how isolated Daemon continues to be. When Viserys’ finally does speak with him, you can see that it is too little too late. I think you can tell that Viserys regrets not making a greater effort to keep him around - Daemon warned Viserys of all of this happening in the very first episode. Additionally, having Rhaenyra walking in the background of the crowd watching the two brothers speak again with a nervous look on her face is a great parallel to the wedding episode, when Viserys was watching her and Daemon.
It is incredibly telling that no one is consoling or even talking to the widowed husband, and in a later scene with Rhaenys calling Daemon self serving (fact), we understand that the people of Driftmark likely share her same sentiments. In the books, it is said that everyone on both sides were angry when Daemon and Laena wed behind everyone’s back and ran away to Pentos. Surely his reputation is even more tarnished with her now dying and not being at home to big birth.
Watching the dynamics of all these kids being circled around for so long is very important foshadowing for how they will all be interacting in the future. I actually really like the actors, they are doing a great job and each one of them is really able to say so much about their character without having much dialogue or extended screen time. Shout out to the writers for managing to achieve that, it is no small feat.
Jace is such a sweetie pie, and now that he knows his father was Harwin, it makes it all the more sad watching him trying to mourn a man when he is not allowed to. Rhaenyra is such a good mom and you can see that she is emotionally a very nurturing and caring parent to her children. It’s such a shame Alicent doesn’t learn a thing or two from her.
Having Daemon and Laena’s girls Baela and Rhaena reach out their hands to Jace is so sweet. In the books it made it seem like Daemon and Rhaenyra saw quite a lot of each other, with Rhaenyra becoming quite close with Laena, but in the show it’s implied that these cousins would hardly know one another. It is clear in this one act that they trust one another and feel like they can be vulnerable with each other. This is reinforced when the girls go get Jace first after Vhagar is stolen, and when the boys defend them against Aemond.
Lucerys’ conversation with Corlys was so sad, about Jace becoming king and Luke would inherit Driftmark. It reminds us all that there is so much already riding on all of these kids shoulders. For Luke to respond in such an innocent way that only a young kid can really puts it all back into perspective. Combine that with Aegon getting drunk and behaving like a teenager yet again, and you can see how if left to their own devices, these kids would have likely been friends and lived contented lives.
Helaena being married off to her brother Aegon is true to the book, but seeing Aemond wishing Alicent had betrothed her to him is a new twist. Last week Rhaenyra tried to marry her to Jace to strengthen the family bond and Alicent refused. Alicent was married off as a political move as well, and had completely rejected the notion of Targaryen’s marrying within the family when she was younger. We see now that as an adult, she will truly do anything to prevent Rhaenyra’s claim be stronger than her children’s.
Helaena predicted Aemond losing an eye last episode, and in the short scene we get with her she makes mention of “weaving Dragons with thread”, which could be her foreseeing Daemon and Rhaenyra’s wedding.
Viserys calling Alicent Aemma!!!!!
Like I mentioned earlier, Rhaenys’ clear disdain for Daemon is just the tip of the iceberg. She has clearly been harboring resentment towards Corlys for putting their family at risk, which she warned him about at the very beginning of the show. For a man so hell bent on revenge over men who didn’t listen to his wife, he sure does not listen to his wife a lot. She also cannot look Rhaenya in the eye in this episode, so it is clear that she is deeply disappointed by both sides of her family and it ultimately costs her both of her children. The Targaryens have taken everything from her, so I can’t wait to see how next week plays out with her.
“History does not remember blood, it remembers names.” What a line. Sadly, if Corlys were to take Rhaenys’ suggestion to heart and name Baela and Rhaeyna, they would eventually get married and lose the Verlaryon name. Corlys knows this, and even though the boys do not have his blood, it is his name he values more.
Rhaenyra confirming that her and Laenor tried to have a kid is a big deal my friends!
Harrens Curse - Rhaenyra mentions this and it is a reference to Black Harren. A lot of owners of the land ended up dying by violent means, and Larys made mention of this in last weeks episode as well.
“we were happy enough” - what a loaded statement. “I’m no longer a child” - also a loaded statement. In their relationship she is clearly the one running the show.
Aemond going after Vhaegar and claiming her to ride - what a scene to showcase just how big she is. you can tell that she smells him and for whatever reason, allows him to ride her. I know that is bad news bears but still a very cool scene. To see someone ride a dragon for the first time again like Jon Snow was so cool and well done, especially considering her size and that back then they actually rode them like horses. In the books, Viserys told Aemond that he would bring him to Dragonstone after the funeral so he could pick a hatchling but he takes matters into his own hands. Vhagar was originally owned by one of Aegon’s sister wives, Visenya.
Lykiri is a word in High Valyrian used to calm dragons down.
AEMOND IS SUCH A DICK, wow he becomes an awfully cocky bastard once he has a dragon. And then to throw is brother under the bus so easily, you can feel the resentment in him. This fight between the kids is also slightly different than how it was told in Fire and Blood. In the book, Joffrey sees Aemond sneaking out of the castle. Aemond kicks him into a pile of dragon poo so that he will stay quiet, In the show, we didn’t see Joffrey, and instead it was Baela and Rhaeyna were the ones to see him take Vhagar.
Poor Viserys, my man, he just wants peace and his people refuse to let him have it. But at the same point in time, he is really (to take a quote from Outlander) sailing on a ship made entirely of paper at this point, and everyone can see through it but ultimately because he is King it is the only thing maintaining Rhaenyra’s entire life and social standing. There is an obvious inequality between the family. Every law he puts into place ends up having the Streisand effect.
Alicent freaking out was actually an incredible scene, I knew what was going to happen and my heart was still pounding. Her fall from grace has been huge and the standoff in the center of the room was incredible. The dagger is emphasized a lot in this scene, so I hope to god they somehow make season 8 makes sense with this damn show. Also Criston Cole smirking, I wanted to smack his smug face.
Thank god Daemon actually stepped in to protect Rhaenyra this time unlike episode 5, but I think it’s telling that he blocks Criston instead of going for Alicent. To me, I think he knows Rhaenyra is strong enough to protect herself, and always has.
Otto being proud of Alicent is even more insight into how big of a scumbag he is. Him saying Aemond’s eye was a thousand times worth the price he paid was insight enough into just how far they will go to win. At the beginning of her conversation with Daemon, Rhaenyra says Alicent is not capable of cold murder, but now she can see the true face of her enemy.
Laenor being MIA mourning his sister for most of this episode is so sad. It really is so difficult a position he is in. And thankfully Rhaenyra does truly care for him and recognizes that he is a wonderful person and honorable man. That said, you can see the disappointment in her face when Laenor recommits himself to her. Daemon’s return is breathing new life into her and giving her the strength she needed to fight back, something Laenor will never be able to give her. This scene is very successful because at the end of the episode for a moment, you can believe Rhaenyra would have been willing sacrifice him to get what she wants.
“Fire is a prison, the sea offers and escape.” At first I was unsure how or why Rhaenyra was saying this in reference to her and Daemon, because the sea being her escape isn't an option if she kills Laenor. But after the episode ended, the idea that Rhaenyra knows her and Daemon’s fate’s are tied to their Targaryen blood, but Laenor has an escape if they give it to him is very clear. Another great line from this episode.
Rhaenya and Daemon speaking to one another again in High Valerian  - and it is Rhaenyra asking Daemon to marry her again. Girl really has it bad. Rhaenyra has been depicted as an overall honorable person thus far, staying in her lane in court and despite sleeping with Harwin and siring bastards, the new context we gain this episode that she and Laenor did in fact try to have kids makes her situation more sympathetic. They tried, and couldn’t. That says something about her character that previous episodes denied.
When Daemon and Rhaenyra begin talking about marriage and needing Laenor to be dead in order to do so, I immediately was sad. Having Daemon do her dirty work and implying that upon Daemon’s return she would be willing to betray the only other family she has ever had when Laenor did nothing wrong, it would have been very Game of Thrones and I would have been very disappointed. This was all masterfully shot; juxtaposing the audio of their plotting with the scene of their wedding with their kids watching made them seem incredibly selfish, then having it all take place RIGHT after Lenore’s implied death rather than six month after the fact like the book implied is just crazy, honestly. And then you TWIST IT ALL and you see Laenor and his lover leaving together and my faith in Rhaenya and Daemon is restored once again and DAMN what a way to end the episode. But, no one else will ever know they did that, and it will paint them in an incredibly ugly light. For Daemon that is a strength, but Rhaenyra has never had to live with that shadow of darkness.
When they get married they cut their lips and hands with dragon glass! And Rhaenyra touched his chin like she had in the brothel again! We love a good parallel and continuity.
John MacMillan was good in all his scenes this episode, but to see how tormented he was with Rhaenyra when he promises to be a husband to her now...so well portrayed. She knows he is not a strong enough husband for the fight to come, and loves him enough to set him free. I wish we were able to see the conversation between Rhaenyra and Laenor (and likely Daemon) and be able to know his reaction because when you think about it, they gave him and incredibly selfless gift.

Hello M! I saw you were open to writing for characters for GOT/HoTD, so I was wondering if I could send in a request for Aegon the Conqueror x fem! reader (non-Targaryen - maybe Nymeria's sister?) with the prompt 'Gift giving'? As for smut level, if possible lemon please, if not default or lime are perfectly fine too! Thank you and have a great rest of your day :)
Tumblr media
Hello! Nymeria actually lived and died long before Aegon’s birth, and the princess ruling Dorne during Aegon’s time was already eighty or so, so I will write this fic with the reader being princess Meria’s great-niece instead. I hope you like it.
Pairing: Aegon the Conqueror x Fem. Reader (House Martell/Great-niece of princess Meria | Second person POV)
Themes: Soft | Smut
Warnings: Size kink | Kissing | Penetrative sex | Cream pie
Wordcount: 1.3K words
Summary: The day after his return to Dragonstone, Aegon receives his first gift on the day of gift giving
Rating: 🔥🔥| Minors DNI | 18+ | You are responsible for the media you consume.
A/n: In this version, Visenya and Rhaenys are merely Aegon’s sisters, and not his wives. I also write the seasons running for three months each, instead years and years.

The Dornish custom of gift giving during the winter solstice was not unheard of in the other kingdoms, but they, besides the Northmen, were the only people to practice such a custom. Once King Aegon took a Dornish princess to wife and adopted many of their ways, his own kin started to exchange gifts as well.
The dreary holdfast that was Dragonstone was awash with black and crimson banners bearing the three-headed dragon of House Targaryen, and black and crimson bunting besides. Sprigs of evergreen clung to columns and windowsills, adding to the color that cut the chilling white of snow.
When Aegon opened his eyes, it was to the sound of a bell chiming. It was still dark out; the sun was obscured by thick clouds bearing more snow. Aegon hoped it was morning and that he had not slept through an entire day. His journey to Volantis was a triumph. It was also long and tiresome. Now he was home, and he did not have to think of leaving again for quite a while.
“Good morrow, my love.” Relief surged through him when he heard your greeting. It was indeed morning, and he had not, as he had feared, slept for a full day. “Did you sleep well?”
“Like the dead, sweetling.” Aegon threw back his pelts and rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand. The room was still warm; someone had added fresh logs to the fire. He suspected it may have been you, and he was grateful for it. “Is everything ready for tonight’s feast?”
“It is.” The featherbed was comfortable, and the pelts were soft against your skin. Still, you opened your eyes and sat up in bed. The appointed hour for the giving of gifts was still a long way away, but you wanted to give Aegon his before breaking fast. “And I have something for you.”
“You need not trouble yourself, my lady,” Aegon replied. He watched while you slipped out of bed and slid into a thick robe. He felt a stirring in his blood, a yearning. He decided the first meal of the day would have to give way to more pleasurable diversions. “I have a great many treasures already, you most of all.”
“True, my lord,” you agreed, and then blushed after hearing his praise. Aegon was now king. The immense wealth of gold and jewels of House Targaryen was his to use as he saw fit. Nevertheless, today was the day of giving gifts, and you padded across the room and opened the doors to your wardrobe. There, safely concealed between gowns of velvet and silk, was a heavy object wrapped in leather. The king sat up in bed, his eyes full of ravenous curiosity. “But I thought of giving you this all the same.”
“What have you there?” He inquired. His fingers twitched in anticipation. For nigh on half a year, the two of you shared the same chambers as husband and wife. You dined together and shared the triumphs and trials of ruling a great kingdom together. This, however, was his first true festival with you, and he did not know what to expect.
“I carved this myself,” you confessed, and you placed the parcel on the bed. Worry consumed you the entire time. Aegon had received many a fine gift in his life, and you prayed your own would pass muster. “It took quite a while, and I had to make sure you never came upon me making it.”
“Oho! You made it yourself, is it? Now I have to see it.”
Despite the many cares and expectations that came with wearing a crown, Aegon still possessed the enthusiasm of one free of such. He loosened the thin ribbon and drew away the leather.
“It is you and Balerion,” you explain, and run your finger along an unfurled wing. They were the hardest to carve. One night, you despaired that you would not get them right. “That was how I remembered seeing you for the first time. When you arrived at Sunspear, to ask my great-aunt Meria for my hand.”
Aegon lifted the piece of carved wood and studied it intensely. He admired the embellishments along Balerion’s body: the scales all over his underbelly, the horns on his head, and the sharp spines going down his tail. Then there was Aegon himself, perched on Balerion’s saddle, his crown atop his head. The king was deeply moved. All the wealth he possessed did not compare with this.
“I will treasure this always.” Aegon placed the carving on the chest of drawers next to his side of the bed. He decided to have the carving placed in his council room, on the mantle beside the painted table. “And I have a gift for you as well, my lady. For now, come here.”
He did not give you time to frame a reply and pulled you back into bed. Thoughts of gifts and feasts and celebrating were all but forgotten after his kiss. He was exceedingly gentle as always, stroking your arms, your thighs, his mouth hot and sinful while it plundered yours. Your hands found their way into his hair. He trembled and kissed you harder, moaning into your mouth when those same hands moved lower and clutched desperately at his back.
“Temptress,” he growled when nails dug into his flesh. Aegon slipped his hand over your belly, and loosened the sash of your robe. The rush of warm air made goosebumps prickle all over your skin. He trembled again, this time when you slipped out of it and wrapped your legs around his thighs. Your husband was big, and wonderfully so. You felt it even more when he slid that rigid part of him inside of you.
It hurt a little, even though you were more than ready. And it felt glorious at the same time. Every time he drew his erection out and then pushed it back in, flames sparked to life and surged through your veins.
“It is wonderful to be home again,” Aegon whispered in your ear. And it was not just him who thought so. You felt the same, and you reciprocated his sentiment by kissing him with fire and passion. Aegon nearly faltered, his hips and back now burning with effort. The room felt hotter, and the air was thick and sweet. His cock twitched within the warmth of your body when he felt a coiling deep in his belly. Faster he went, driving you deeper against the featherbed as he chased his release. It was too much. The pleasure was too much. The sensations that came whenever he pushed himself in were too much. Bliss—pure and otherworldly—rose and dragged you into a dark tunnel you did not seek to escape from. You could not think. All you could do was feel: the trails of fire that lashed at you and left you weak, and your very body slowly dissolving into a kind of pleasure that had no name. Then you heard it—your name spilling from your husband’s lips, and the deep, guttural cry that followed. Aegon thrust one last time before he stopped, and went still.
Later, after he forced himself to move away from you, he admired his gift once more and then inquired after his sisters.
“Rhaenys has built a small mountain of gifts, her ladies tell me.” Aegon hooted when you told him. “Most of it will be given away to our guests during the feast. Visenya has only prepared tokens for us, for Rhaenys, and for no one else.”
“At least she has crafted a token for you, which is a miracle in itself.” Visenya, having expected Aegon to wed her according to the traditions of their House, was wroth when he chose a Dornish bride for himself. She had been cold and aloof for most of your marriage to her brother, but during the the last turn of the moon, there was a softening in her stance, an attempt to meet you in middle ground. It gave you hope for a much stronger bond with her in the future. “Send for the servants, sweetling. I think it is only proper for you and I to share a bath.”

not to make gentle scoffing at HOTD's artistic choices an olympic sport but RHEA ROYCE was fumbled so strangely it bewilders me. thinking about this because i read an interview from one of the HOTD writers sarah hess where she was talking about daemon & became flabbergasted all over again. it's like, rhea royce is not really a sad story in f&b. yes she dies young-ish, in a hawking accident, but that's like, her thing. God forbid women have hobbies. in fact rhea royce is set up pretty nicely! she inherited runestone in her own right. she has her own incomes. she sent her husband packing because their marriage sucked & gets the last laugh when she dies and jeyne arryn, once again, sends daemon packing. "get lost you gangly bitch" —jeyne arryn circa whenever. W for feminism. when jeyne arryn becomes one of rhaenyra's greatest supporters in the war she does so by separating daemon's interests from rhaenyra's, and rhaenyra reciprocates this understanding DESPITEEE being MARRIED to public enemy #1 daemon targaryen by slapping the arryn sigil onto her war banner, even tho daemon was resolutely humiliated (banished even!) by these very same mountain dwellers not two decades back.
[however in the show voice] however in the show, because we are serious understanders of misogyny here, it's implied that rhea is BLUDGEONED TO DEATH by daemon & that their marriage failed because (and if you have not watched this show i regret to inform you this IS a plot point) daemon had... erectile dysfunction. i am Not a daemon's erectile dysfunction hater btw. i found it kinda quirky. something for the girls. however "haha your dick is small" being rhea royce's last words was like, okay, THIS is how we're indicting masculinity? via men getting precious about their floppy penises?? this is the level of critique we get to? but the scene in storm's end between lucerys and aemond is gonna be played straight as a mew mew scared little boy gets DESTROYED by dig bick REAL MAN who studied the blade while you studied some pansy ass basic rules of diplomacy??
which is back to my point about rhea royce, actually. the positioning of misogyny & masculinity is just a little funny and definitely off. rhea royce is a woman so she has to be a victim and she receives no justice for her death, naturally, in this terribly sexist feudal paradigm. never mind that rhea's death of natural causes actually results in pie being thrown in daemon's face, for no reason other than the valemen hated his ass, almost as if his actions did indeed have consequences! BUT any other flagrant display of toxic masculinity such that there isn't a nearby Woman whose story can conveniently be lent the illusion of nuance via acknowledging said toxic masculinity... well it completely flies under the radar. we're not getting into all that. Gendered Violence: It's Really This Simple! and if not,

WIP Wednesday So, I was tagged by lovely @lord-aldhelm and decided to take part! <з
Please share your last sentence; or, if you don’t have one, share a plot bunny or idea!
If you follow my blog, then you probably know that I make gifs (mostly TLK & some other shows I'm currently watching), but I do write from time to time. Firstly, I share my wip gif project, which I hope to post this evening. Then I'll show something from my wip fan-fiction, but with a long ass explanation on how to perceive it lol
I. So, the gifs in progress:
Tumblr media
Currently working on these two toxic boyfriends! It's gonna be a sort of 'web weaving post', so there are a lot of quotes and some paintings.
II. Now for the writing
The thing here is that I write in my native tongue, and, truth be told, I break a hella lot of rules. What is the point of knowing grammar perfectly if you are not going to butcher it later? I always play with grammatical cases and omit subjects (because the language allows it and the sentences are still comprehendable), invent weird-sounding descriptions, or let nouns drive the sentences. And when I write in English… Let's say it's complicated, as it is my second language, and I won't ever be able to convey my thoughts properly and with the depth that I was initially guided by. But yet, I've decided to try and exercise my brain a bit. So if you see strange grammatical constructions and incorrect word order - I'm sorry, but it is what it is, and sometimes I struggle to translate it.
background context: I write for small and strange fandoms, cause I love my characters and pairings. For instance, Ruby x Moody (awae), Warren x Layla (high sky), Jonas Baerb (RC: Psi), some modern hotd (mostly the greens), and Felix x Wendy (ouat). This super small part is from my wip 'Cheerful oblivion' in which Wendy is stuck in Storybrooke but is not being accepted by her former family because of how drastically she has changed on the island. Guess who is ready to open his arms in exchange for some fairy dust and help getting out of this shithole? Yep, Felix. Of course, they both had toxic connections with Pan. Of course, they both have an undeniable unhealthy attraction to each other.
***
Her tender smile, instead of an answer, slowly shakes her head from side to side.
This is her reality now.
Not going to high school, the iridescent chime of Grace's voice after classes, and coffee at Granny's. Wendy Darling doesn't wear skinny jeans, doesn't know how to use messengers, and, at seventeen (give or take one hundred years), doesn't know how to drive.
'Let's come to the table, or the food will go cold.'
The role of "mother"—Wendy has mastered it skillfully. Not exactly the best one, but impeccably needed. Once the one and only for boys on the island. Brutalised orphans demanded fairytales and medicines during the day, and at night they whined in her arms, writhing from screams in their own nightmares.
Wendy remembers everything: the first hunt, self-made spears, and arrows ineptly smeared with poison. The club on the shoulder of the great hunter, his sneaky, almost auricle-licking:
'The bird sings sweetly in the wild but looks much nicer in a cage.'
Prickly chills on the spine, aching tension in her calves—Wendy grabs the edge of the table, trying to keep her balance. Since then, she has also learned to run quite well.
From the living room, John screams something about an extra knife. The girl inhales the air into her lungs and raises her head, emerging from that deep maelstrom of rotten memory.
That's right, dinner.
The last one. The boys will be back in Boston tomorrow.
The food on the plate became cold because she had to tend to the pudding that was adored by the eldest as a child. The nervous laughter of the youngest, who is so eager to stuff himself with the second portion of the pie to make Wendy happy. The clatter of cutlery is annoying; the room begins to shrink, pressing against her temples.
A salt that John could go get on his own.
A thick mass of cream that seems too heavy to Michael, although Wendy took butter and milk in equal proportions.
Palms on her knees, right tops left one in an attempt to stop damaging nails and cuticles, shoulders lowered. Wendy's forehead itches at John's probing gaze.
'We'll find a way to get you out of here,' he says abruptly.
Michael freezes with a fork in his mouth. John's lips are a crooked line, a desperate attempt to make himself believe what he just said. He avoids her eyes, a torn scar on her lower lip, and an unseen habit of biting her nails.
As for Wendy…
Wendy'd just rather be left alone.

I don't know whom to tag, so if you see this and you want to participate, pray, do so!

In 500 words or less please explain why you love Lukey poo pie so much
My time has come. *intense hand rubbing*
Ah, where do I begin explaining my never ending adoration for Lucerys?
I have to admit that at first sight, when he appeared on episode 8, I hadn’t paid much attention to him until ep. 10; and what had drawn me the most to him initially, was his very endearingly sweet personality.
Idk what about him but the fact that he felt insecure about being the next Lord of Driftmark and him thinking he wasn’t as perfect as his mother was AND RHAENYRA PAMPERING HIM LIKE A LITTLE BABY MADE MY ENTIRE HEART SWELL FOR HIM BECAUSE I WANTED TO COMFORT HIM TOO AUIDKFKGJEIDJR
That was what began making me feel a bit more attatched to him. Idk why I hadn’t focused on him when he felt insecure of being stared at when Jace and him where on Kings Landing, but I guess I found his attitude on the last episode even cuter than in the previous episode where he appeared.
And I HONESTLY HAVE NO IDEA WHY, BUT WHEN I SAW HIM TRAINING WITH JACE AND GETTNG HIS OWN SWORD THROWN TO THE GROUND AND HIM GETTING DRAGGED THROUGH THE SAND BY JACE JUST MADE ME GO LIKE ????? HES SUCH A PATHETIC LITTLE DRAGON PRINCE I LOVE HIM SM!!!!!!
Tumblr media
THERES SOMETHING ABOUT HIM BEING PATHETIC AND SUBMISSIVE BY NATURE (submissive bc i lack another word) THAT JUST WON MY HEART,, 💗🙏
But but but since I was in love with another fictional man, I didn’t want Luke to occupy my mind. I thought I liked the character and thought he was sweet, that was all... And I tried to keep it that way, but look at me now.
Please dont ask why I found his awful skills in fighting adorable to me. I just did and I still love how Luke was pathetically horrible at combat. There is something in that failure that makes him look even prettier and kissable.
And by the time the Storms End scene was coming/came, I simply swooned with adoration at how despite he was nearly shitting and peeing his pants at the thought of meeting Lord Baratheon, he still tried to make his mother proud and went to Storms End. I was having the building up of thinking just how brave and courageous Luke was in his own way, despite being scared/nervous.
DONT GET ME STARTED AT HOW AMUSED I WAS WHEN I HEARD HIM SPEAK HIGH VALYRIAN. I GRIPPED THE SHEETS AND FOUGHT BACK A SMILE. Also his focus on trying to escape and how prettily cool he looked with his hair wet just caught my attention.
Of course my heart shattered when he was eaten by Vhagar and Arrax got chomped off. And ever since, I never fully got him out of my mind. Lucerys might have been insecure and nervous, yes, but he was brave. And since I re-watched HOTD like 3 times (the 2 times I was already head over heels for him), I also found the way he tried to defend his brother when he saw Jace about to punch Aemond truly mesmerising.
Did he get face-planted on a plate full of food by Aegon? Yes, he did. Did he try his own way to defend his brother despite being bad at physical fighting? Also, yes. And that is what truly matters to me — his intentions to fight back for his family despite being bad at it.
Ok so maybe I made a big ramble there. But basically, what first made me be terribly attatched to him was just how preciously cute, timid, adorable, and pathetic he was (is). There was something in his behaviour that made me want to tightly embrace him, rub his back tenderly, and fill every inch of his face with tons of adoring smooches while telling him not to feel insecure about being the next Lord of Driftmark, and how he was perfect the way he was.
Now, getting onto his physical appearance. And when I say that was the last thing I focused on him when I was falling for Lukie Pookie, I genuinely mean it.
His hazel green eyes. Those gorgeous hazel green eyes of his, that make me want to stare at them tirelessly. Idk how to say it, but I find them to be so beautifully expressive. They are so precious, they look like a pair of jade gems. I sincerely adore how sometimes depending on the lighting they may look blue-ish, grey-ish, or just vividly green. My God, he swoops me off my feet with his way of staring.
DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON HIS PERFECTLY SWEET NOSE AND HIS ROSY LIPS!!!! you guys have no idea how many smooches I would place on the tip of his nose, and how I would love to softly trace it with the tip of my finger AHHFJRJXKENDJFJ and I wanna squish his rosy cheeks and caress them and just tell him how much I HOLD HIM VERY DEARLY ON MY HEART LIKE NO OTHER 💗💗💗
His hands and his skin looks soooo lovable. Lemme kiss his knuckles and every inch of his skin, and run my fingers through his messy but soft-looking hair mwah mwah mwah🥰🥰🥰😍😍🙏🙏
Okay so im very bad at explaining myself, especially when it comes to these type of things lmao but basically I adore his entire self. Like, literally; my heart could combust from all the adoration I feel for him, i can’t contain it anymore ughghghg
Basically, I love him so so much and so dearly because there’s something in him that I just find so sweetly melting. His insecure personality, yet courageous on his own way, makes me want to tightly hug him and hold him on my arms and tell Luke just how perfect I believe he is and why he should never think otherwise, and I just want to fill him with all the love and care he deserves to have. There is something adorable about him that I need to smother in with affection.
Gods im so awful at explaining my romantic feelings and this is LONGER than 500 words, but it had to be explained (probably in an awful rambling way, but still) 🥺🥰💘💘

Dear Yuletide Author
First of all, thank you for writing something for me! Regardless of whether or not you take into account anything in this letter, I’m bound to love whatever you come up with. (Also, apologies for, as always, taking an age to get this written. :/)
General likes: I’m not super picky it comes to fic: I’ll enjoy anything from the most tooth-rotting fluff to the most soul-rending angst, any rating at all. My number one always is hurt/comfort, especially of the emotional variety. If someone is crying and someone is cuddling them (literally or figuratively), I’m a very happy reader. Being an anxiety sufferer myself, I also have a soft spot for seeing characters dealing with mental illness stuff, anxiety and depression particularly, especially if their partner/partners are there being super supportive and helping them through it, even if they don’t always quite understand or get it right. Any kind of porn with feelings also never goes amiss. I'm aromantic asexual and in a queerplatonic relationship, so any aromantic spectrum and/or asexual spectrum characters and/or characters in qpps make me luminously happy.
DNWs: Pretty much anything goes; I have no real triggers or squicks to speak of. I’d prefer not to see any noncon/cheating/violence/etc between the actual main pairings/relationships, but if you want to include those things elsewhere, that’s fine. Also please steer clear of any amatonormative tropes/compulsory sexuality/aphobia or any kind.
For any of my requests, feel free to use whichever characters you want – you don’t have to include them all – and to bring in any characters that weren’t nominated (by me or in general). In a few of these, I'm going to mention characters not nominated for Yuletide at all, and I know I can't officially request those, so it's more of pie-in-the-sky, if you happen to be interested thing. Crossovers are also welcome.
As for the fandoms specifically…
Fire & Blood - George R. R. Martin Requested characters - Aegon III Targaryen, Jaehaera Targaryen, Rhaenys Targaryen (Sister of Aegon I), Rhaena Targaryen (Daughter of Aenys I)
I went hard on the ASOIAF background stuff after I started watching HOTD. Anything that expands on any of these less-seen characters would be great, and I'll give a few ideas. (I'm also totally down with any incest you want to write here, since that's the norm. Also canon age difference, but please keep anything with underage characters non-explicit.) Feel free to include any canon from the ASOIAF series proper, The Worlds of Ice and Fire, but I'd prefer you stick to book canon rather than including any HOTD/GOT exclusive stuff/changes.
Aegon III and Jaehaera. These children have been through so much and been so screwed up by it at such a young age! I'd love anything that addresses this, especially if it's them getting to know each other and sharing and kind of working through their trauma together. Jaehaera lies AUs welcome! Romantic or gen.
(TW: suicide) On the other hand, feel free to hit the angst hard with these two. They are super messed up, after all. If you touch on Jaehaera's death, I prefer it is a suicide rather than a murder. I dunno how, but it just seems somehow nominally less awful and tragic that way.
Rhaenys. More about her please! Maybe details on what exactly happened with her death in Dorne? Maybe she did survive the initial fall, and what happened afterward? I'm a big fan of mutual poly Aegon/Visenya/Rhaenys. Also Rhaenys lives AU would be good!
Rhaena. Basically, let her be happy for five damn minutes! And queer!! I'd prefer to see her written as bi/pan/etc, since she is canonically involved with her brother and seems genuinely interested in him before her later female lovers. Oh! Speaking of that, would adore seeing her get bloody, bloody revenge on Androw Farman rather than him "escaping."
We Are A Picturesque Small Town And We Refuse To Be The Setting For Your RomCom (McSweeney’s)
I just love the aromantic vibes this one gives off with all the townspeople being so fed up with romance. If this in fact a town full of arospecs? Perhaps someone comes there looking for romance and finds about this other way of living. Or perhaps a "couple" (or moresome) from the town follows the steps of one of those stereotypical romance storylines, but they're really in a platonic/queerplatonic relationship?
On the other hand, I can see this turning Twilight Zone-esque. Perhaps there literally can't be romance past the borders of the town. How and why? What happens if someone with romantic feelings enters? (If you choose this, please be careful not to make it arophobic. For example, no insisting/inferring that not having their romance in their live is inherently sad/pathetic/unfulfilling/etc for every single person.)
In either case, it would be super fun to see appearances of some of the little details like the specific businesses (especially the combo ones) and literal holidays mentioned in the piece.
Mystery Flesh Pit National Park - Trevor Roberts This was just brought to my attention by my brother, and I haven't read very much of it. Don't worry about any spoilers, though. (But if you have favorites posts/directly reference any, links would be nice. :) I don't have much specific for this other than that I'm very interested in whatever the big incident was that shut the part down. (No clue how much of this is actually revealed in "canon," so go wild.) I also find the amalgamations fascinating and horrifying. It strikes me that this could easily cross over with SCP (admittedly another fandom I'm not terribly familiar with, but same freedoms as above reply) if that happens to be something you're interesting in. Otherwise, just whatever set in this world!
Sleep No More - Punchdrunk No real specific prompts for this one. Sleep No More is just so unique, and I absolutely love the sort of spooky/mysterious/I dunno exactly how to describe it vibes. If you can manage to capture that, that would be fantastic. As for some ideas...anything meta would be great. The characters actually being caught in loops and in a certain place and knowing it. Maybe an OC that goes into the show (if you want to keep it a literal show, or just wherever it is) and either just observes or actually manages to interact with the character/s and change things? Maybe the characters know the audience is there but just can't actually interact with no, no matter how much they might want to?
Cookie Clicker Nothing specific here either, but I amused it was a choice as I've been playing it a lot lately. Really anything goes. As for some random ideas... Any based on the horror of the Grandmapocalypse. Or maybe something based on one of the headlines? A lot of the upgrade descriptions are food for thought as well.
Unpacking (Video Game) It's been awhile since I played, but I just find the whole thing so delightful. It's just a cute, relaxing, fun game, and I'm amazed by how this format manages to tell a story like it does. Anything goes for fic, though bi/man MC, please, as we see she is involved with both a man and a woman. Bonus points for including any of the actual objects from the game, especially the ones MC carries with her throughout her life like the cup and stuffed pig.

hotd episode 9 thoughts:
thought i might miss rhaenyra & daemon & co in this episode, but there was enough tension and drama that i honestly didn’t and i think it was a good choice to have the whole episode be centered around the greens.
i do have to admit i’m a little amused that the way they stretched out the green council plot was by having people run around king’s landing looking for aegon. an egg hunt, one might say…
olivia cooke was absolutely FANTASTIC in this episode she did such a good job of showing how alicent was pulled between her love for rhaenyra and what she thought was her duty.
rip lyman beesbury you spent most of your screen time talking about boring finance stuff but you were a real one when it counted.
let out an actual flinch when they mentioned storm’s end and lord baratheon’s unmarried daughters. if you know you know.
helaena with her bug embroidery was so cute.
i don’t know who in this fandom coined the phrase “mommy’s favorite war criminal” in relation to aemond and alicent but i am literally incapable of not thinking it when they have a scene together now, so that’s your influence.
rhaenys was such a badass in this episode, i love her very much. her scene where she told alicent that she wasn’t seeking freedom but rather to make a window in her prison wall … oh hell yeah it was everything i wanted someone to say to alicent.
the whole otto vs alicent plot was SO good i am ready for their relationship to fall apart. alicent calling him out for manipulating her whole life was incredibly satisfying, i’ve literally been waiting all season for it.
criston cole saying all women are made in the image of the mother and they should be treated with reverence … i believe that’s what we call irony.
i enjoyed aemond complaining about aegon and how he should be king instead, it was a great insight into his character. also, aemond targaryen canonical nerd.
i do have to respect mysaria for just being totally on her own side with her own agenda and willing to support whoever will further it.
her stuffing aegon underneath the sept to keep him safe was honestly kind of hilarious.
aegon running away from his coronation was a bit funny but mostly just very sad. he doesn’t want it! he doesn’t want to be king! this whole tragedy could have been averted if not for the forces pushing him around!
the fight between aegon and aemond WAS extremely funny though. the hair pulling, the spitting, the rolling around on the ground shouting … peak sibling behavior.
as a twin i greatly enjoyed the building tension between erryk and arryk and their conflict about serving aegon, it’s going to lead to so much drama.
i could have lived a long and happy life without seeing that scene between alicent and larys. but unfortunately i have seen it. and now i must life with the trauma.
big fan of how completely dead-eyed and miserable aegon looked during the coronation scene, props to tom glynn-carney for his acting.
the scene with rhaenys and meleys bursting through the bottom of the dragonpit was extremely cool and i was rooting VERY hard for her to murder aegon even though i know it wasn’t going to happen. your dragon stepped on a bunch of people what’s torching one guy after that!
category 5 event imminent i spy aemond taking off his eyepatch and vhagar up to no good in the trailer for episode 10.
literally since the moment this show was announced i have been steeling myself to see That Event at storm’s end adapted and now that we’re almost there i would like to publicly announce that i am still! not! ready!!

hotd episode 6 thoughts
ohhhh the family drama in this one was DELICIOUS, i enjoyed it very much.
i will admit i found the time skip a little jarring at first even though i knew it was coming, just because so much stuff happened during those years, but emma d’arcy and olivia cooke were absolutely SERVING and i loved them.
rhaenyra with her kids … rhaenyra obviously loving them so so much … rhaenyra smiling as soon as she saw baby joffrey … oh it was a lot.
as soon as older rhaenyra said “fuck” while climbing the stairs i was like. yes. absolutely. i love you, this is perfect casting.
i have been overly invested in daemon and rhaenyra’s children ever since reading f&b so i feel pretty emotional actually seeing jace, luke, joffrey, rhaena, and baela on my tv screen. they’re real! they’re little and squishy! i want desperately to protect them!
i’m really glad that they included alicent’s “do keep trying, sooner or later you may get one that looks like you” bit, it’s such an iconic line of bitchy dialogue.
i SO wish that we had gotten to see more of the relationship between rhaenyra and harwin (they didn’t even kiss!) but the little bits that we did see of it were really tender and lovely, especially with baby joffrey.
helaena targaryen being a weird little girl with a bug collection is something that can be so personal, actually.
also, her saying something like “you’ll have to close an eye” while aemond is talking to alicent about wanting a dragon … please oh PLEASE let helaena have prophetic dreams, that would be great.
i am aware that aemond targaryen is going to grow up to commit a ton of war crimes but honestly i just wanted to give him a hug in this episode.
alicent being constantly exasperated that her children are growing up to be a bunch of absolute weirdos was really, really funny.
we finally got to see vhagar! she is so large and so ugly and i love her very much and seeing her fly with caraxes was a lot of fun.
i’m really sad that we only got to see adult laena for one episode, she was so regal and self-possessed and i really liked her interactions with her daughters and the fact that she clearly doesn’t want to indulge daemon’s sulking.
the implication that daemon stayed away from westeros for 10 years because he couldn’t stand to be around rhaenyra when they were married to other people … oh man. oh boy. that is so much. can’t deal with this right now, sorry!
alicent and criston having a weird warped version of fealty and courtly love based on their shared hatred of the same person … yesssss i love it give me more.
harwin strong in his dilf era repeatedly punching criston cole in the face is literally everything i wanted to see from him in this episode.
viserys talking about the bonds of friendship being forged through combat together while aegon ii is beating up his nephews is just like. jesus christ. viserys please learn to read the room.
alicent and larys having their scheming little dinner together was so fun, especially since it’s clearly a common practice. seems like larys is going full-on villain and that’s going to be entertaining to watch.
kind of sad to see that daemon and rhaenyra’s marriages are both breaking down, but i can understand why since there are a lot of stressors in both of those relationships.
around halfway through this episode i was like “there seems to be a lot going on here, maybe i won’t have to watch harwin and laena die yet” so the last 10 minutes absolutely sucker-punched me.
rip lyonel strong you were a real one and possibly the only man in westeros with both honor and common sense.
i am not quite sure how i feel about laena’s death, i always thought childbirth was a lazy way to get rid of her and i can see that they were trying to add more dignity/autonomy but it also made it more violent … i’ll have to think on it.
the milf on milf violence in this was just really fun and i can’t wait to see more.
i am READY for the funeral drama next week, bring it on!

hotd episode 3 thoughts:
i thought this would have more fighting in the stepstones but as a great lover of the “people being mean to each other at parties” genre i can’t be THAT mad about it
rhaenyra making that bard play the same song over and over again while being emo … she’s just like me actually
kudos to this show for acknowledging that the targs sometimes have prophetic dreams, we love to see it
harwin strong and rhaenyra looking at each other when she returns from the hunt … viserys saying that rhaenyra can choose her own husband but then apparently taking it back in the next episode presumably to make her marry laenor … the fact that rhaenyra’s velaryon boys were actually harwin’s … hmmMMM i am thinking thoughts about how this will play out
appalled that this show is making me enjoy the interactions between rhaenyra and criston cole, their falling out is going to hurt so bad
rhaenyra and daemon both deal with stress by going bananas, running off on their own, and brutally murdering something … character parallels indeed
laenor <3 velaryon <3 and <3 seasmoke <3
daemon’s braids <3
caraxes stepping on that guy and killing him should NOT have made me laugh as hard as it did
where are laena and vhagar and rhaenys and meleys i would like to see them!
rip the crabfeeder you would have loved the invention of the crab rave meme

hotd episode 4 babyyyyy
benjicot blackwood out there murdering grown men for insulting him, boy that was a scene
i am really fascinated by the way this show depicts the relationship between daemon and viserys and the fact that he clearly resents his brother but also still wants his approval. like, the part where he rested his head on viserys’s shoulder after giving him the driftwood crown did kind of get me.
alyssa targaryen reference! not by name, but it made me so happy that they acknowledged that daemon got his personality from his mother because he 100% did.
really fascinated by the fact that daemon and rhaenyra’s conversations in high valyrian are some of the most honest dialogue in the show, it’s such a great choice.
slightly obsessed with the fact that harwin strong immediately recognized rhaenyra even though she was running through the streets of king’s landing in the middle of the night disguised as a boy.
alicent babygirl i am GETTING you out of that marriage you don’t deserve to be stuck with a scabby middle-aged man.
baby helaena <3
the fact that daemon heard rhaenyra say “i don’t want an arranged marriage” and was like “i should take her to a brothel.” this man is insane and i Do Not understand how he got from that point a to that point b.
very glad that the director for this episode (who is a woman, btw) acknowledged that the brothel scene was kind of fucked-up because. like. it was.
even though it is absolutely not going to end well i do kind of have to respect rhaenyra going and banging criston cole because she was horny. get it, girl!
rhaenyra deserves an oscar for the “vile accusations” scene that was some next-level lying by omission.
the fact that otto hightower, sleazy manipulator extraordinaire, got dismissed from court for telling the truth … l m a o
“you are not a conquerer, you are a plague” oof ouch that one hurt didn’t it daemon?
i swear to god that man did not even make it 24 hours in king’s landing before being exiled AGAIN.
i spy with my little eye in the episode 5 trailer some next-level wedding drama, even more dragons, and possibly rhea royce :)

hotd episode 7 thoughts
let me tell you, i have been anticipating the funeral drama in this episode for WEEKS and it absolutely did not let me down.
as always i am happy that we got to see some of the dragons but i would have loved even more. where is syrax! i want to see her all grown up!
i’m glad we got the velaryons mourning laena, but it really did make me wish that we’d gotten to see more of her alive. laenor is clearly grieving his sister, but i honestly don’t think they ever had any significant scenes together.
corlys and rhaenys with their grandchildren was really sweet, i especially loved seeing rhaenys comfort rhaena and baela at the funeral.
helaena targaryen continues to be a weird little girl and i support her!
i love the idea of making aemond care more about helaena than aegon does, it’s a good characterization bit and also incredibly evil (cannot wait to see Certain Events that happen as a direct result of aemond’s actions utterly ruin their relationship).
why was this episode so dark. i could see everything but it was really gray :(
however i did like the part where everyone was standing around awkwardly after the funeral, the interpersonal drama was delicious.
matt smith and emma d’aracy have great chemistry, all the staring they did at the funeral made me SO impatient for them to actually interact, and their conversation on the beach was fantastic.
loved getting to see them confront all their thoughts and feelings about each other that have built up over ten years. i’ve always found their relationship compelling to watch even though it’s obviously. you know. incestuous. it’s just fun to watch! and i feel less “step away from the underage girl” now that rhaenyra is older.
i know harwin strong is dead and never coming back but i’m still glad that we got to see jace mourning him and rhaenyra talking about their relationship.
a brothel …. a shack on the beach … daemon i am literally begging you to bring rhaenyra somewhere actually nice on your next date.
the scene of aemond claiming vhagar was both funny and awesome, the visual of this tiny little kid riding a huge old dragon and screaming his head off was hilarious but the moonlight dragon ride was very cool.
truly family solidarity as exemplified by the targaryen-velaryon kids is when your cousin that you just met for the first time that day wakes you up in the middle of the night to tell you your uncle stole her dead mom’s dragon so you go beat him up together!
i like the added detail that rhaena was planning to claim vhagar, it adds even more betrayal to aemond taking her instead.
is house of the dragon actually an extended psa about the dangers of giving young children knives? maybe so!
mom rhaenyra looking after her kids and making sure they’re okay is very important to me :)
honestly, i felt pretty bad for aemond in the big confrontation scene, he was kind of a jerk to the other kids but it can’t be fun to get yelled at by your dad when you’ve just lost an eye.
i absolutely LOVED the tension in that scene and the way that it built and built until alicent just went for it and tried to stab rhaenyra. characters going completely feral and unhinged in the BEST and alicent dropping her mask of cordiality and screaming at rhaenyra was so, so good.
viserys your parental favoritism is reeeally showing…
the scene between rhaenyra and laenor was wonderful, i’m so glad the show made it clear that even though they have their differences and have been basically forced into a marriage together they still care about each other and their kids a lot.
loved that larys was like “hey alicent want me to stab a kid’s eye out for you? :)” and alicent was like “no dude i’ll actually TELL you when i want you to kill someone.” she’s learning!
there were 3 dragons when the boat was sailing away, does that mean helaena has already claimed dreamfyre?
when rhaenyra and daemon started talking about getting married i was SO worried that i was going to see them engage in some not chill behavior together and kill laenor so i’m glad that didn’t happen.
i do have to respect this show for avoiding another bury your gays by having laenor fake his death but. uh. is anyone ever going to tell corlys and rhaenys that their son isn’t dead?
the valyrian wedding between daemon and rhaenyra was really cool but tbh i was kind of laughing at them passionately making out with tongue in front of their kids.
i say this every week but i am VERY excited for next week, looks like we’re in for even more family drama.

i think i will be okay with the change to luke’s death if aemond full on bursts into tears over it at some point in season 2. now that they’ve gone the “it was an accident” route i need them to wring every drop of drama and despair out of this that’s possible while also giving him an all-time villain spiral. when you spent years training to be the best possible warrior riding the most feared dragon in the world and the first blood on your hands was a total accident, leads to the downfall of your family, and you’ve committed a sin so terrible you’re permanently damned in the eyes of gods and men alike, what else can you do but hate yourself and where else can you go but further down?

boy! this family really never can have a funky good time together without something happening, can they? (i say as a distraction from my immense emotional pain)
rhaenys you may never have been queen of westeros but you are queen to ME.
really liked the bits of daemon and rhaenyra’s life married that we got to see and how comfortable they were with each other. hbo, i’m just saying, but it’s not too late to abandon this whole “adapting the dance of the dragons” idea and just do a 5 season sitcom about the dragonstone household.
wow alicent really has become the westerosi equivalent of a christian housewife but also with girlboss ambitions.
the scenes with the dying viserys made me so sad. rhaenyra trying to talk to her father but he’s too incoherent to understand … introducing him to the grandkids … daemon helping him climb the iron throne … god it really got to me see how much they care about him and how much he was hurting :(
baby aegon iii and viserys ii were really cute though!
no … alicent … please don’t uphold the patriarchy and become complicity in the oppression of women … don’t continue the cycle of abuse begun by others that you now perpetuate…
i am impressed by how quickly this show made my opinion on aegon ii go from “annoying yet entertaining” to “die in a hole you rat bastard.”
congrats to daemon and rhaenyra (and rhaenys!) for raising some much better-adjusted teenagers, definitely liked what we saw of the older versions of the kids.
adult aemond is an absolute menace and i am going to enjoy every single second of his screen time.
jesus christ rhaenyra it’s been SIX YEARS and you still haven’t told rhaenys and corlys their son isn’t dead? please get on that! did love that those two had another scene together at last, though.
the scene where viserys dragged himself to court to sit judgement over the inheritance case was pretty powerful.
damn vaemond velaryon was kind of an ambitious asshole but he really didn’t deserve to die like that. kind of love that daemon was like “talk shit about my wife and you get a sword to the face” though, very in character.
those 30 seconds at the dinner party where everyone was getting along were so bittersweet, it did such a good job of establishing that the whole impending tragedy COULD have been averted if things went differently.
viserys really did need to put his foot down more often and be a stronger king, but it’s also so sad that he just wants his family to get along and love each other and it’s just not going to happen.
helaena honey i am going to rescue you and your ominous prophecies from your terrible husband, you deserve so much better.
the fact that viserys left the room and things immediately went to shit and the younger generation got into a fistfight was peak black comedy, not gonna lie.
the dramatic pause before aemond finished his “strong boys” toast … yeah i love him.
mentally chanting kiss! kiss! kiss! at rhaenyra and alicent as if this could someone how avert all the impending doom.
god, that last scene with alicent and viserys was so good and i am obsessed with how viserys’s obsession with prophecy and the future of his house is actually what dooms it.
PEAK asoiaf vibes to have the prophecy that was supposed to be the duty of the house instead lead to its downfall!
i’m really going to miss paddy considine as viserys, he brought so much depth and complexity to a character who was pretty flat in the book.
i know this whole show has been building up to the dance of the dragons but ohhhhh man am i not ready to see things actually begin in earnest now that the king is dead.
if anyone needs me i will be sitting here trying to process the hour of television i just watched!
