Weak Hero Character Names

For those who don't know, the Weak Hero webtoon anglicized a bunch of the characters' first names from Korean to English. They don't do this for newly introduced characters anymore AFAIK, but all the names they anglicized initially have been kept that way.

Since I've gotten a few people asking about the names, so I decided to compile a list of their original Korean names. You can find amost of these on their character profiles on the Weak Hero fandom page, but I figured people would appreciate having a quick reference that is all in one place. Hopefully this helps people learn/connect their original names.

Remember, this is not a full character list, it's for finding the Korean names of the characters that had their names anglicized.

PHILLIP SOHN / SOHN NAM-IL. 30. / médico adjunto del área de pediatría. hospital central de chicago. en la misma ciudad hace 13 años, en el hospital hace 5 años.

huerfano creciendo en su natal seul, corea del sur, nam il se esforzó todo lo posible para conseguir una beca y así no tener que preocuparse por el dinero. claro que se soñaba ser un doctor de categoría & toda la gloria ( & dinero ) que eso conlleva.

su plan iba a la perfeccion, hasta logró una beca completa en la universidad de chicago, el mejor de los programas en medicina de la región. & la aceptó. se cambió de nombre a phillip al llegar, pero no tomó en cuenta, o subestimó las fluctuaciones economicas & hasta sociopolíticas de eua, por lo que muchos fondos se fueron a la mitad. si bien muchos perdieron sus medias becas, a él su beca entera se convirtió en media. fue su fin.

de ser el estudiante arrogante & primeros años de altas calificaciones & honores, pasó a alargar su medidos años de carrera para trabajar, y pagar lo que faltaba, endeudandose al final, tristeza & frustración que tambien bajó sus calificaciones.

se graduó, mayor de la media pero no lo suficiente para ser cuadro de honor, le guardó un profundo resentimiento a todo lo establecido, gobierno & figuras de poder.

aún así, logró comenzar su internado & ahora está en su segundo año siendo adjunto de pediatría. se descubrió siendo bueno con los pequeños al final, aunque dureza aun se guarda con los adultos, & contra el sistema del que aun sigue siendo parte. mas de una vez intentó burlarlo para atender pequeños de familias sin seguro, pero con cosas pequeñas por lo que aun no ha sido descubierto.

en cuanto a su personalidad, ha cambiado mucho del que era antes (si es que algun pj lo conocía en la univ). le da verguenza ser pobre, & mas aún estar endeudado, pero se distrae en su área, donde pone todo de sí para salvar a los mini-humanos.

no habla mucho de sí mismo, es sarcastico, adaptable, no muy sociable pero tampoco se queda en una esquinita si se trata de sobresalir en el trabajo. egoísta, siempre verá solo por él, pues nadie mas va a hacerlo, aunque ahora ve su carrera mas humana & menos como cajero automático.

Nach den Inseln hatten wir Lust auf ein bisschen mehr Jungle und Natur deshalb sind wir in den Khao Sok Nationalpark gefahren.Dort haben wir eine 2 Tage Tour gebucht, bei der wir morgens zum Stausee gebracht wurden. Wir hatten dann für eine Nacht eine kleine Hütte auf dem Wasser, konnten dort schwimmen und Kajak fahren und hatten Abends und am nächsten Morgen eine Bootsafari bei der wir Affen (u.a. einen Gibbon) gesehen haben. Bei der Tour haben wir Jasmin und Phillip wieder getroffen, die mit uns den Tauchkurs gemeinsam gemacht haben. Wir haben abends zusammen watten gespielt und und lange unterhalten. Am nächsten Tag gings dann auch noch in den Jungle zu einer Wanderung in die Nam Ta Lu Cave was ein absolutes Highlight war. Wir haben Spinnen, Fledermäuse und Kröten gesehen und mussten teilweise durch Felsspalte mit Schultertiefem Wasser. Die Landschaft war wirklich wunderschön und wir sind froh über das Erlebnis. Am nächsten Tag waren wir nochmal selber im Nationalpark spazieren und haben die Ruhe und Natur genossen.

A week of delicious food at Bodega Ridge

I just got back from a company retreat1 at Bodega Ridge, a large group event space on Galiano Island.

It’s owned & operated by Jesse Keefer, you can read more on the about page.

Rachael and I had stayed there once before, almost exactly 11 years ago. @walkah checked in on Swarm and found my recommendation from 2012. 2

Apparently tent caterpillar infestations repeat in roughly 7-12 year cycles (and it’s something I remembered from our 2012 visit), and that’s the first thing that greeted us: caterpillars crawling everywhere and webs in the trees.

It was a great company retreat but this is going to be a post about the food.

I already put in entries for Lola the restaurant at Bodega Ridge, and Chef Elmark Andres, into the FoodWiki. I’m hopefully going to get a full menu list to keep and annotate in the wiki.

We serve locally caught local seafood and local produce from the island, much of which is from the Bodega Ridge Farm. The menu is written in a blend of Tagalog and English. Family style/sharing plates with bright surprising flavours and a focus on fire-forged ingredients.

We had lunch and dinner served family style for ~20 people, including accommodating food preferences and sensitivities. Meals were served either at the big long table indoors at the lodge, or out back under the tent pavilion.

The food was incredible and plentiful. Lots of Southeast Asian influenced flavours, and lots of fresh local ingredients. I’m including a few photos, but half the time I had half a plate to take a picture of.

Dinner on Sunday was our first meal. Braised carrots with sumac, a Panzanella Salad with great fresh tomatoes, and chicken legs with a garlic-y verde sauce. I was impressed right way, I thought they’d made a special welcome dinner.

The only photo that I remembered to take was this yuzu pudding with pistachios. Toasted coconut substitute for those with nut allergies.

At lunch the next day, I found out that that quality of meal was just “regular” for Bodega Ridge. House made Baba ganoush and hummus with fresh baked bread seemed great for lunch. And then the food kept coming! A tomato salad

Monday dinner was outside in the tent pavilion.

Grilled Asparagus with Puttanesca Sauce

Potato Pave with Chive Cream Sauce

Grilled Flank Steak

And for dessert, two Basque Cheesecakes with sour cherries.

Tuesday lunch I knew I was in trouble. High end restaurant quality meals twice a day??? But I didn’t regret it, everything was so good.

A cold ramen noodle salad with Thai basil, crunchy rice, pomello, and an amazingly tangy sauce that made everyone come back for more. Yes, this is a terrible

Local prawns in a black pepper sauce. Not everyone has the patience to peel and eat prawns, so Ryan and I made sure they were taken care of.

Local ling code with salmon roe and a nam prik-style sauce.

Cucumbers with gochujang sauce and roasted sesame seeds.

Flan with passionfruit sauce.

Smoked pork collar with nam price sauce and mint.

The bar is well stocked with a small selection of wine and beer. Hoyne Hazy IPA and Hoyne Pilsner. Phillips Blue Buck Ale and Tilt Lager. A yummy white wine, the 2021 version of this Daydreamer Pinot Gris from BC’s Okanagan Valley. A French red, Ardeche Syrah - Saint Desirat.

The last night saw a few cocktails poured. “Into the Woods” is made with tequila or mezcal (the latter was out unfortunately), a house made grapefruit rosemary syrup, Ancho Reyes Chile Liquer, lemon juice and a few other things. Thanks Skyler!

As I said above, I’ll actually aim to get the whole menu list and add it to the FoodWiki. The food and entire experience of having a retreat at Bodeda Ridge was amazing. Thanks Jesse, Chef Elmark, and the entire crew for hosting us!
