i'm really enjoying it so far! they're making slight edits to events but thats typical for adaptions and its nothing game changing so far, i agree with like 95% of the edits being made, they've shown some really interesting character choices as a result and haven't changed the intent or direction of the story at all (if anything, the edits have clarified and refined things so a++ in that department)

the 3d animation is...okay. could be better could be worse. they're falling into the typical trap of 3D animation which is making every movement too smooth (and as a consequence, slow). and there's some really noticeable stiff/un-lifelike moments bc of that. but theres also some moments where it really shines through (you can tell they put extra effort into expressions in some scenes, for example) and the cinematography has been very nice so far!

voice acting is also pretty good! main problem has been that sometimes the animation doesnt rise to meet the voice acting

all in all its got an 8/10 from me so far (and i am PICKY with things i like ajshfgk) and the 2 points lost are mainly animation issues which will hopefully improve as we see the series hit its groove, and like two or three edits/cuts that im bitter about on a personal level

the one edit i really don't agree with for the villinit donghua adaption is they got rid of those very first few panels where he crushes the butterfly like. that is such a vital character establishing moment for me personally. AND part of recurring symbolism with butterflies for ling chen. should've kept that in there was no reason no to!! wouldnt have taken long and they couldve used the butterfluly instead of those drones to show off the city and introduce ling chen smh

i still wish it was more stylized 3D animation but my bar for that is EXCEPTIONALLY high (spiderverse. bigtop burger. jjba kamikaze douga openings. etc.) so i can't blame villinit for not meeting that bar in particular asdghfk

also they're changing a lot of smaller details in this first episode but this is one case where like. i can see why they made the edits they did and it feels more true to character/the intent of the original so i actually agree with the majority of them....even if i still wish i got to see some scenes askjdhgf

so they spent like 99% of their budget on the environmental models and textures i'm pretty sure cause the actual animation and cinematography is. well. its not great.

on the bright side these subs i'm watching use penrose instead of panluosi/panlos so this is already great for me since i wasn't expecting much from the animation anyways ashdjfg

okay i take back what i said about the cinematography its pretty good actually the opening sequence just dropped the ball w some drab shots to try and look Serious

#they're relying too much on physics for certain things. which i understand thats alright but that on Top of the stiff body animations #make both things seem worse than they are asdfjhg #everything is too smooth the movements feel like they take too long or are moving through water #sometimes its better to be snappy! minmax those keyframes come on!!! #if you have detailed skin textures but really stiff movements it jsut feels uncanny!!! #ky speaks #villinit donghua lb
