My MCU Phase 4 MOVIE Ranking
Since MCU Phase 4 has come to a close, and I just watched Black Panther Wakanda Forever, I am going to give my ranking- did anyone need this? No. But I'm the one voluntarily choosing to state my opinions online.
DISCLAIMERS: not ranking the shows, just the movies- maybe I'll do a separate post for the shows?
I thought about it but I will be mentioning spoilers. I didn't know how else to rank them without using evidence from the films to back up my justifications.
The movies aren't in position of best-worst or anything like that, they are only just listed in the order they were released.
Okay, let's get into it.
Black Widow:
7/10, or maybe even 8/10 for me. Overall, I personally thought it was decent. I know there were a LOT of people who gave it negative reviews. I remember seeing so many bad things about it from people when it came out. But honestly, is it the worst thing Marvel has made? Imo, no. I won't get into the nitty gritty, or the Taskmaster stuff, but I liked getting to see Natasha again- even though we know this was before she died. And Florence Pugh as Yelena stole the show for me. Black Widow is (was?) also one of my favorite Avengers, so I personally have a soft spot in my heart.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings:
8/10 or maybe 8.5/10 for me. I am hesitant to push it toward a 9/10. Here's why and let me explain. I am aware that some people are THIRSTY for Tony Leung. I don't understand that, however it's your life, not mine. BUT I will say he did a damn good job being a complex character. I don't like him for giving Shang Chi trauma, but I think he did good being morally gray. Even though I got frustrated as F sometimes with his character. Shang Chi I actually liked. His dynamic with Katy? Great. I like Awkwafina tbh. Xu Xialing being the badass sister? Iconic. Although I hope she doesn't turn evil based off that post credit scene (another reason why I'm hesitant to give it a 9/10- I just want her to be good okay? Can't have TOO many morally complex people) The cinematography was great. Finally, as someone who is Asian (specifically Chinese0 but I was adopted) the Asian representation was decent. You know, it wasn't anything super mold breaking but for big names like Disney and Marvel, I give a nod.
Eternals:
3/10 or 4/10 at MOST. I honestly don't even remember most of this movie. I didn't even really have many expectations going into it, but.. yeah let's just say it was not my favorite. I didn't really like Sersi and Icarus together. I honestly felt like their characters were boring tbh. Druig and Makkari though? That's the REAL ship. And representation for the deaf! It's a start! Also, I will be crying eternally over Gilgamesh dying. The one thing about the plot that mainly interested me was Dane Whitman. I admit I am interested in seeing how the Black Knight storyline will be explored further. Other than that, Eternals was not really a memorable MCU film for me.
Spiderman No Way Home:
A solid 8/10. I think we can all agree this one was the MOST hyped up movie from Phase 4. Like ever. The hype was so real. I LIVED through it all. What a world to live in. Everyone was avoiding spoilers left and right. Anyway. I DID like the film overall since it continued the storyline of Peter's identity being discovered, and a bit of Dr. Strange's storyline. Obviously, the cameo from Tobey and Andrew was great to see. Although I admit I did not grow up watching Tobey and Andrew's versions of Spiderman, I felt the kind of "magic" experience of seeing the original folks back on screen permeate through me. HOWEVER. The only reason I cannot score this one any higher is because I didn't like the ending. I haven't really seen much and it has been a while, but do others hate the ending? What is the universal opinion? I may just look it up on a Reddit thread later. Anyway, I personally didn't like that ending. Why would you do the memory wipe trope??? I mean, was that actually the ONLY solution to Peter nearly tearing apart the space time continuum and fabric of the universe??? So Ned and MJ are just gonna have to continue on. I can't think about it too much or I may get emo actually. To end it on a good note, it was cool seeing the old villains from the universe as well.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness:
7/10. Yeah. I had to think for a second. But 7/10 feels right for this one. It wasn't really my favorite, but I didn't think it was the worst. And oh god, there seems to be a LOT of controversy around this one. By controversy, I also just mean basically mixed opinions. From what I've seen/heard, people either really hate this one or they're like, alright. It's mid. Also, for a movie that has Doctor Strange in the title, I sure did see the entire world talking mostly about Wanda. I don't know. It feels like this movie was just chaotic? Specifically in terms of the storyline, I mean. Like, I thought it was interesting that this was the movie they decided on to introduce America Chavez into the MCU. I think it could have been easier for people to follow maybe just one major character? So the focus isn't constantly shifting? Maybe that's just me. Also, is Stephen just destined to be alone now? Idk about the comics because I don't really read those, but like, I guess he's never ending up with Christine in any universe. Is the Darkhold like actually destroyed for real? What the fuck is the storyline now?? I've seen/heard rumors of the next movie actually being Dimension of Darkness (hence the post credit scene) but like what would the plot be? Again, I don't read the comics so idk if they touch on that, but yeah Doctor Strange's timeline/story and character arc is just one of the weirdest in the MCU for me I guess.
Thor Love and Thunder:
8/10. Yes, I WILL defend this movie. Despite it being another Phase 4 movie which got crapped on, I liked it. If Thor Love and Thunder has 100 fans, I am one of them. If Thor Love and Thunder has 10 fans, I am one of them. If Thor Love and Thunder has only 1 fan, I am that fan. You get the gist. I think people were just so shocked for once that it wasn't their usual type of superhero movie. First of all, what does that even mean. Just let people enjoy their silly little movies, damn. I will admit, was it the strongest plot? Meh. But I did enjoy the dialogue a lot. I liked seeing Thor, Jane, and Valkyrie again. If you can't even think of Korg without getting offended, then you can just leave. Also, Christian Bale did an amazing job at being a villain. I will give him that. I will say that was one of the highlights of this movie probably tbh. I was so shook. As someone who watched Newsies, I was just like "he was Jack Kelly and now he's this" LOL.
Okay. And I know- most of know by now that Jane died, and some people didn't like that- yeah, I was sad too- but I thought it made sense for her character. Like I said, I'll play the defender. Also, because I thought it was impactful about how it paralleled Gorr and Love's relationship. And it was a metaphor for her going to Valhalla. She died in her OWN battle. But yeah, the storyline now with Thor will be interesting. I wonder what his next adventure will be. And if there's people out there still pressed about this movie, I'll just say I don't think Taiki Waititi cares.
Black Panther Wakanda Forever:
8.5/10. I just recently watched this one and I am still processing it. So I may not have as many fully formed thoughts on this movie compared to the others, but if I were to give keywords, I would say impactful and emotional. I went on Instagram and Twitter and there seems to be a majority of people who liked it. However, the main negatives I saw were issues with Shuri or Riri. Which is a whole discussion within itself. Also the storyline and length. I understand people thinking it dragged on. I went with one of my friends to watch the movie and she told me afterwards it felt a bit long to her. I can get that. But I WOULD argue with you on the cinematography. I thought that visually the film was great. The underwater scenes were fine with me. The costuming as well. I thought it did fine honoring Chadwick Boseman. To those who say it wasn't enough for them though, I just have to ask, ok, what would you have done instead? Like, yeah I saw some people saying Riri shouldn't have been introduced in the movie, and Shuri should have just stayed a scientist. So what would YOU make the storyline? And that's all I have to say on that. Aside from that, the soundtrack was great though. Overall, I think this film was one of the best for me of Phase 4. And it was a beautiful way to end it.

Whenever I’ve heard or read about Walt Whitman, it’s usually in relation to one of three things.
He was one of America’s greatest poets.
There are many high schools named after him.
He was gay.
Well the first two may be true, I was surprised to read that Whitman himself asserted his heterosexuality.
Walt Whitman came from a family of 9 children. At a young age, he quit attending formal school and worked as an office boy for a law firm. Next he apprenticed at a news paper, learning various tasks from typesetting to running the printing press. Over the years, worked and wrote for various papers, eventually stating his own publication in 1938.
He wrote a novel in 1852, and a self-help guide in 1858 (about beards, nude sunbathing, comfortable shoes, and eating meat). His best known work is “Leaves of Grass” first published in 1855. But he continued to revise it and republishing it until his death.
Although it’s assumed that Whitman was gay based on some of poetry regarding the love of men, the issue has been debated. At least one contemporary critic of “Leave of Grass” thought so - he called Whitman guilty of “that horrible sin not to be mentioned among Christians”.
Over the years, Walt Whitman had many friendships with young men, often living together. But Whitman himself, as if to assert his heterosexuality, claimed he fathered six illegitimate children. But Uranian lovers? (Uranian was a 19th century slang for homosexual). Among the possible candidates:
Tumblr media
Bill Duckett - Duckett worked for and/or living with Whitman for a number of years, even returning later in Whitman’s life to become his driver. Whitman described their friendship as "thick".
Tumblr media
Harry Stafford - Whitman met the 18 year old Stafford when he was 57. He stayed with Stanford’s family after recovering from a stroke. Their relationship was described as “intense” and it is said that Whitman gave him a ring which was passed back and forth during their stormy friendship.
Tumblr media
Peter Doyle - Whitman met Doyle in 1866 while Doyle was a horsecar driver. Whitman call him his “rebel soldier”. The two were closes friends for most of the rest of Whitman’s life. In 1895 (3 years after Whitman’s death) Doyle described their first meeting: “We were familiar at once—I put my hand on his knee—we understood. He did not get out at the end of the trip—in fact went all the way back with me." (As an aside, Doyle was said to have attended the same theater as Lincoln was he was assassinated.)
Oscar Wilde - after Wilde visited the United States and met Whitman in 1882, he said: “I have the kiss of Walt Whitman still on my lips."
Edward Carpenter: in 1924, English poet describe a sexual encounter with Whitman when Carpenter was young. The details transcribed in the journal of Gavin Arthur, Carpenter’s disciple.
Duckett and Stafford may have only been strong friendship (like a father to a son). But clearly Doyle and Carpenter describe more.

“Peter Brown - High Plains Song" is a survey of over 30 years of Brown’s explorations on the relatively unknown and underappreciated landscape and habitat: the prairies and high desert of the American Great Plains. The High Plains are the western portion of these ecosystems, a land that historically has been arid and difficult to cultivate.
Walt Whitman wrote that the prairie was North America’s “characteristic landscape,” and while less stunning at first sight than places like Yellowstone or Yosemite, it slowly fills the aesthetic sense and geologically precedes the rest.
The epic grandiosity of this landscape has fascinated Peter Brown: the panoramic endlessness of the sky, the rhythmic expanses of fields and grasslands, the quality of light which verges from near blinding to the softest hues -- colors that are nuanced but may encompass an entire spectrum.
There are iconic images that haunt the visitor: roads and furrows, converging on the horizon with precise geometry, bisecting the world into heaven and earth. The heavens present an ever changing spectacle of moods, from clear blue skies with feathery clouds to black colored thunder storms to flaming red sunsets.
Water is very precious in this arid area, where most of the water for irrigation is coming from the Ogallala aquifer, which is slowly being depleted. The people who settled here about 150 years ago have waged a valiant battle to convert this land into fertile soil, but with no lasting success. There now is a conservation effort taking hold to let part of the land revert to its pre-existing natural state.
Peter Brown’s photographs capture the hardscrabble existence of the people, their tenacity and simplicity of life, their cultural heritage that encompasses Indian roots, pioneer spirit, religious affiliations, high school sports or the joy of small town life.
Peter Brown’s images are more than archival documentations, they reflect an emotional involvement, a deep admiration and love for his subject.
Peter Brown’s camera fuses reportage with poetry."

DA Poets
Honestly, any poetry is DA poetry if you can recite it from memory or sound intelligent while speaking of it.
• T. S. Elliot
Didn’t write much poetry, but what he did write is dense with meaning
• Wisława Szymborska
Any of her poems are instant winners, for a great collection I would recommend Map: Collected and Last Poems
• William Shakespeare
Classic, cannot go wrong with any of his works
• Anne Sexton
For bonus points, listen to the song “Mercy Street” by Peter Gabriel based on the poem “45 Mercy Street”
• John Milton
Paradise Lost is always recognizable by name
• Homer
Both The Iliad and The Odyssey are the best known works, bonus points if you are able to read them in their original Greek for the full effect
• Edgar Allen Poe
Although The Raven is his most notable work of poetry, his short stories are also enjoyable
• Robert Frost
An acquired taste compared to my other favourite poets, but my top four are definitely “The Road Not Taken”, “Mending Wall”, “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”, and “Acquainted With the Night”
• Mark Twain
          Recognizable in name and work
• Lord Byron
An older poet, much of his language is obsolete in the modern era yet conveys meanings we could not hope to comprehend without it
• Sappho
An excellent romantic, “Slender Aphrodite has overcome me with longing for a girl” Bonus points if you read it in the original Greek for the full effect
• Walt Whitman
The modern-day version of a classical poet: free verse is his specialty!
• Edgar Allan Poe
The O.G. dark academic, the literature teacher’s favourite Halloween lesson.  Nothing can beat the simple and unsettling Poetry of Poe!
• Oscar Wilde
Nothing will ever be as iconic as The Picture of Dorian Gray has become in the DA aesthetic! a definite must-read.

MILAN - The object is placed in a corner, inside a display case. On a red cushion rests a watch with a fabric strap marked by use and years. The rather small dial tells of a time that no longer exists and that now appears very distant. This story begins exactly from here, from a small cult object that belonged to Marilyn Monroe and bought, just under a year ago at an auction, by Lorenzo Riva, CEO and President of LR Wonder Company, an Italian cosmetics brand inspired by the dreams par excellence: Hollywood. "I managed to buy the watch at an auction at Christie's", he explains,“It's one of his last items that I bought. I had noticed it in some old photographs, but I didn't think it was still for sale. When I found out, I couldn't believe it. So I launched myself, I tried and it went well… » .
Tumblr media
Marilyn's watch, now in the Lorenzo Riva collection.
One of the photographs in which Marilyn is seen with that watch was taken by David Cicero who immortalized the actress lying on a lawn reading Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman. A shot that made history. «Almost by chance, however, in this case the watch has become the intermediary for something else bigger» , continues Riva, «because thanks to this object, I come into contact with Black Rock, an American fund that holds the rights to Marilyn. We talk to them, we understand what we can do. From there was born the idea of acquiring the rights for Italy » . The dream begins to become concrete, the phone calls are followed by contracts and contacts, and an icon of the twentieth century becomes a brand, so much so that Riva and its LR Wonder Company now launch the cosmetics brand under the Marilyn Monroe TM brand.
Tumblr media
Marilyn with the clock reading Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass.
But a great passion also entails a great responsibility, to quote Ben Parker, Peter's uncle aka Spider-Man, and Riva knows it well: "A great responsibility, that's right, because the last thing I wanted to do was a cheap thing, I did not want to demean Marilyn and her eternal charm », he explains, « in fact on the single products there is not the face, but her signature. As if it were a brand. The idea is to create a cult object, something beautiful to own, as well as to use » . Not satisfied, Riva also wanted to add a small detail, a reference that only connoisseurs and lovers of MM can understand: to position the products in the shops, he wanted to build a hardcover that follows the architecture of a place so dear to Marilyn :“The Roosevelt Hotel. I know, it may seem exaggerated, instead it is a sort of signature, to make it clear that we do not want to exploit, but to celebrate. And who knows maybe someone younger won't discover Marilyn thanks to LR Wonder products, right? It is nice even to think so… ».
Tumblr media
Lorenzo Riva among the relics of his private collection.
suggestion that makes (a lot) sense and that reaches more than fifty-eight years after Marilyn's death and that reminds once again - if it really needed - not only the relevance of the myth, but also of the woman behind the myth: "Because I'm fascinated from the figure of Marilyn? " , Riva reflects, "because she is an unprecedented figure, a woman immersed in the spirit of her time capable of combining the security of femininity with a sui generis feminism in advance of everything" . In addition to the watch, Riva has been awarded other objects by Marilyn, see the giant key of the Warner Bros studios given to her during an award ceremony, but among the memorabilia there are also an autograph of another myth such as Montgomery Clift and the car used by Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street. Pieces of myth, objects that are not simple objects but underlie a state of mind. "Cinema is myth, wonder, it is no coincidence that one of my favorite films is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory".
Tumblr media
Now that the negotiation for the license is over, Riva is pampering his legend, remembers his favorite film ( Men prefer blondes , probably) and the visions of old films that never get old. But while he gets excited about another brand thought ( "Elvis? And why not?" ) He also reflects on another aspect: everyone should remember Marilyn not only for beauty and style, but also for other reasons, because - once again well ahead of its time - rejected wrong rules when a movement like Black Lives Matter was light years away and African Americans were considered second-class citizens who had to enter the premises by side doors or could not enter at all.
Tumblr media
Marilyn and Ella Fitzgerald: a little told friendship.
"Well, to close, I really want to recall a perhaps little-known anecdote" , concludes Riva, "which I think is needed to understand how avant-garde Marilyn was, to understand how she was against the wrong rules of America at the time and was not afraid of to rebel: at the Mocambo in Hollywood, in the 1950s, African American artists could not enter and obviously not even play, but one day she decided to call the owner to tell him that she would go and sit in his club only if he let his great friend Ella Fitzgerald. And so it was. That's who Marilyn Monroe was… ».

(1819 – 1892) American poet
Whitman was born on a Long Island (New York) farm to a typically heterosexual family. His father drank too much; his mother suffered; and his eight siblings did poorly except for two brothers. The poet idolised his mother, Louisa Van Velsor Whitman, and credited her with inspiring his poetry. From first to last, his writings applaud sexual love. ‘Song of Myself’, published in 1855, contains Section V, which celebrates the soul through the trope of fellatio: ‘Loafe with me on the grass, loose the stop from your throat, / … Only the lull I like, the hum of your valved voice’. Leaves of Grass, the title Whitman gave his collected poems, pivots upon this dalliance with a young man in the grass. In 1889, the poet told an interviewer, ‘Sex, sex, sex: sex is the root of it all.’
During the Civil War, Whitman worked in Washington. An outraged Methodist fired him from the Interior Department after discovering a copy of Leaves of Grass in Whitman’s desk, but Attorney-General James Speed quickly found him another position. Speed’s brother Joshua had spent four years sleeping with Abraham Lincoln in Illinois. Lincoln himself had read and admired the second edition of Leaves of Grass. One of the soldiers, Alonzo Bush, wrote Whitman about a friend who ‘went down on your BK, both so often with me. I wished that I could … have some fun for he is a gay boy’ (22 December 1863); ‘BK’ might mean ‘buck’ or ‘book’, but one writer suggests ‘Big Cock’. The death of President Lincoln devastated Whitman. He wrote his last great poem, ‘When lilacs last in the dooryard bloomed’, for Lincoln. The poet himself suffered a stroke in 1873 and he moved to Camden, New Jersey, with his brother. The later poems became more abstract and less homoerotic, although Whitman’s health recovered after he swam in Timber Creek with his lover Harry Stafford, Carpenter and other young men.
Whitman may now be the premier United States poet, but his work had to overcome much resistance. Leaves of Grass first appeared in a self-published edition in 1855 with few readers; it underwent multiple transformations before the so-called ‘death-bed’ edition in 1892. Leaves of Grass certainly marked the boldest departure from standard English prosody. Of the five reviews to the first edition, Whitman wrote three anonymous favourable ones. Another reviewer was lukewarm, but the other denounced ‘that horrible crime not to be mentioned among Christians’. The fervently homoerotic 1860 edition with the Calamus cluster attracted little attention and the publisher quickly went bankrupt; the 1882 edition was banned in Boston.
Tumblr media
During the 1950s, biographer Gay Wilson Allen established Whitman as the philopietistic poet for what Henry Luce (head of the Time-Life conglomerate) called the ‘American Century’. When the Roman Catholic authorities in New Jersey protested against naming a bridge from Camden to Philadelphia after the poet, Allen certified that Whitman was no queer. New Jersey later added a Whitman rest stop on their turnpike. Gay interpretations outraged traditional Whitman scholars; they excoriated Robert K. Martin, whose Homosexual Tradition in American Poetry (1979, 1998) declared, ‘Whitman intended his work to communicate his homosexuality to his readers.’
Good evidence supports the view that Whitman was an urban sophisticate. He followed theatre and opera and during the 1850s was associated with musical, dramatic and literary critics in New York City; ‘my darlings my gossips’, he called them. Whitman wrote in 1863, recalling these ‘dear boys’ company & their gayety & electricity, their precious friendship’. The poet claimed that contral to Marietta Alboni inspired his work; he attended her every performance in New York City. He encouraged his lover Peter Doyle to attend the theatre regularly; in Ford’s Theater on 14 April 1865, Doyle saw actor John Wilkes Booth assassinate President Lincoln. Whitman was then visiting his mother in Brooklyn, where he wrote his extraordinary memorial to Lincoln, which follows the outline of an opera.

Christian speed dating is an out of the box way of meeting Christian singles in laid back settings such as cafes, pubs, churches and clubs. Although the Christian speed dating phenomenon is popping up everywhere, it is still most prevalent in large urban areas of the US, UK, Ireland and Australia.
How Christian Speed Dating Works
A typical Christian speed dating evening goes is like this: An equal number of Christian single women and men appear at an “event” after having registered beforehand. In an effort to get to know as many potential dates as possible, couples spend up to 10 minutes with each other.
After the pre-determined time of the “Christian speed date” is over, the single person would be matched with another single to repeat the process. At the end of the Christian speed dating event, singles hand in a list of the people (if any) they wouldn’t mind meeting again, and give it off to the Christian dating event coordinators. If there is a Christian speed dating match between any two attendees, the organizers forward this info to the Christian speed daters, along with contact information.

Shudder Boasts its Biggest Horror Movie and TV Line-Up Ever in April
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Shudder is pulling out all the shivery stops to commemorate the startling fact that we are exactly halfway to the most beloved date on any horror fan’s calendar, Halloween. Yes, that’s right, this month (April) is the six-month mark and the world’s scariest streaming outlet is celebrating with “Halfway to Halloween,” a massive slate of programming that begins on April 1 and continues throughout the rest of the month.
This is no April Fool’s joke (although we have some if you want). Shudder is rolling out a brand new batch of exclusive and/or original programming, including the second season of its acclaimed Creepshow series, the premiere of a new series of original short films called Deadhouse Dark, the highly anticipated sequel to its In Search of Darkness documentary, the return of The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs, and the 2021 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards.
But wait, the channel won’t let the first 30 of the next 180 days until Halloween pass without new movies to watch as well. In addition to thrilling new exclusives like Shudder original film The Banishing, Train to Busan: Peninsula and Boys from County Hell, brand new additions to the outlet’s ever-expanding international library include horror tales of both classic and recent vintage, including The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 2, Night of the Lepus, Housebound, Attack of the Demons, Horror Express, The Stepfather and more.
If you’re blown away by all this and want more horror, the “Halfway to Halloween” Hotline is for you. Every Friday in April from 3pm-4pm ET, Shudder subscribers are invited to call director of programming Samuel Zimmerman to discuss all things horror, from their favorite films of all time to which horror releases they’re looking forward to this year. Based on what you tell him, Zimmerman will offer customized viewing recommendations from Shudder’s film collection — a personally curated film festival direct from a foremost expert in the field.
If you’re not a Shudder subscriber yet, the best part is that the streamer is offering a special discounted rate (50% off!) to first-timers who sign up before April 22. So hurry up and subscribe now…before Halloween is here for real.
Here are some of the highlights of Shudder’s original and exclusive programming for April:
Creepshow, Season 2 – Premieres April 1 (Shudder Original Series)
The acclaimed anthology series created by Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead), based on the classic 1982 film from writer Stephen King and director George A. Romero, returns for a second season of scary and often hilarious tales of terror — a horror comic come to life. Monsters, murderers and supernatural apparitions will haunt a whole new slew of guest stars including Kevin Dillon, Josh McDermitt, Keith David, Molly Ringwald, Barbara Crampton, Justin Long and more, with new episodes premiering every Thursday.
The Power – Premieres April 8 (Shudder Exclusive Film)
In the tradition of classic British ghost stories comes this tale of terror set in London in the mid ‘70s. With the miners’ strikes resulting in electrical blackouts, a young nurse working a new job in a dilapidated hospital is plunged into darkness, and she’s pretty sure there’s a malevolent presence in there with her. Corinna Faith directs this Shudder exclusive starring Sanditon’s Rose Williams.
The Banishing – Premieres April 15 (Shudder Original Film)
British ghostliness abounds in this period haunted house movie which impressed critics when it screened at London’s FrightFest. Jessica Brown Findlay stars as a formerly “fallen” woman who moves into a sinister manor with her daughter and Vicar husband only to discover there are dark secrets within. John Lynch and Sean Harris provide strong support in this chiller from Triangle and Severance director Chris Smith.
The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs – Premieres April 16 (Shudder Original Series)
The world’s foremost expert on drive-in movies will be back for a third season of his wildly popular series, presenting horror double features as only he can pick them. Of course, Joe Bob will also give his thoughts on the films, their histories and their context and placement in horror movie history. Expect guests and other surprises too.
2021 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards – Premieres April 18 at 8pm ET/5pm PT (Exclusive Event)
Oscars: Schmoscars. The only awards horror hounds need are these top accolades from genre bible Fangoria. Shudder has partnered with Fango to stream this exclusive event which celebrates the greatest and goriest. Actor David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and soon to be seen as Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad) hosts the awards. This year’s nominees include The Invisible Man, Freaky, Relic, and Possessor.
In Search of Darkness: Part II – Premieres April 26 (Shudder Exclusive Documentary)
Shudder’s epic documentary on 1980s horror cinema, In Search of Darkness, was such a hit that a sequel was deemed necessary. This one — more than four hours in length like its predecessor — dives even deeper into a crucial decade in the history of the genre, featuring interviews with icons like Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Nancy Allen (Dressed to Kill), Linnea Quigley (The Return of the Living Dead), and special effects legend Tom Savini (Friday the 13th), along with many new and returning faces.
In addition to all its original and exclusive programming, Shudder is adding a slew of great horror films both vintage and recent to its already impressive library. Among the highlights are:
Night of the Lepus (1972) – April 1
One of those classic cult films so “bad” that it ends up being “good,” this shocker focuses on Arizona ranchers who are trying to curb a population explosion of wild rabbits and end up instead with a swarm of giant, man-eating bunnies. Stuart Whitman, Janet Leigh (Psycho) and DeForest Kelley (Star Trek’s Dr. McCoy) are all on hand to battle the carnivorous cottontails.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986) – April 1
Leatherface and his twisted family are back in this delirious sequel that plays things more for laughs than the original, but is still as gloriously insane. Directed again by Tobe Hooper, this one finds the cannibalistic Sawyer family holed up in the grounds of an abandoned amusement park, where they torment anyone who comes within their reach.
The Val Lewton Collection – April 2
Producer Val Lewton was a master of psychological horror — where what was unseen was more frightening than anything else — and Shudder is now showing seven of his classic, highly influential films: Cat People (1942), I Walked With A Zombie (1943), The Leopard Man (1943), The Seventh Victim (1943), Curse of the Cat People (1944), The Body Snatcher (1945) and Isle of the Dead (1945).
Alex de la Iglesia Double Feature – April 12
The twisted Spanish genius behind HBO Max’s recent series 30 Coins brings two of his early classics to Shudder: The Day of the Beast (a.k.a. El día de la Bestia, 1995), in which a priest, TV psychic and death metal record store clerk battle Satan and stave off the Apocalypse, and Dance with the Devil (a.k.a. Perdita Durango, 1997), in which Rosie Perez and Javier Bardem are a degenerate couple who deal in human sacrifices, kidnapping, murder and fetus trafficking.
The Stepfather (1987) – April 19
Directed by Joseph Ruben (The Good Son) and written by famed crime novelist Donald Westlake, this cult classic thriller stars Terry O’Quinn (Lost’s John Locke) as a serial killer who infiltrates himself into families, murders them, then changes his identity before moving on to his next target. Only this time, his new stepdaughter is suspicious of just who “Jerry Blake” really is.
Housebound (2014) – April 19
Imagine being stuck at home for months on end… Ok but imagine being stuck inside at your family home with your mum who is convinced there’s a ghost living there with you. This New Zealand horror comedy sees a young woman on house arrest start to believe her superstitious mother might actually be onto something – it’s the perfect mix of funny and scary and is packed with surprises.
The Similars (2015) – April 26
Eight strangers trapped at a bus depot on a rainy night start experiencing a very odd phenomenon in this excellent Mexican sci-fi horror which plays like an extended episode of The Twilight Zone. It’s weird, existential and black and white and has a wicked sense of humour along with a feeling of mounting dread. A hidden gem and an absolute must-watch.
Horror Express (1972) – April 29
Horror legends Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing star along with Telly Savalas in this fast-moving, eerie sci-fi/horror hybrid in which rival scientists and a crazed Russian captain attempt to defeat an ancient, mind-absorbing alien aboard the Trans-Siberian Express. This Spanish gem is one of the more underrated, underseen classics of 1970s Eurohorror, with an original premise and great work from its iconic stars.
Here’s the full Shudder “Halfway to Halloween” lineup for April:

Creepshow, Season 2 – Premieres April 1, new episodes every Thursday (Shudder Original Series)

In a hypothetical Transformers: The Lost Ark cartoon, are there any voice actors you have in mind for the characters?
Hmmm...
Optimus Prime and Megatron are the hard ones.  Peter Cullen and Frank Welker are rightfully iconic in the roles, but don’t fit the interpretation I’m going for since both Optimus and Megatron are younger and lower on their respective chains of command than normal.  At the same time, they need to be performed in a way that shows they ARE the iconic characters we know, and that they just haven’t been recognized as such yet.  David Kaye’s take on Optimus would work, but honestly I’d almost want to find someone new for the parts.
As for the rest of the cast... well, the list is ridiculously large so I’ll just focus on a few:
Windblade: Erin Fitzgerald.  Some of my favorite characters in ficiton were voiced by her, and it was always a surprise to find out because they’re all REALLY different.  She’s got the range for the part.
Ultra Magnus: Clancy Brown.  Ultra Magnus needs a voice that booms with rigid authority, but still has a charm to it.
Prowl: Jeffrey Combs, because you can ALWAYS do with more Jeffrey Combs in your life.
Ratchet: Deedee Magno Hall.  A strict, rule abiding character who’s still lovable.
Brainstorm: Jim Rash.  His take on Gyro Gearloose is one of the best funny yet insufferable mad scientists I’ve ever heard.
Nautica: Mae Whitman.  Nautica needs to be nerdy and awkward on the surface and a level headed adventurer underneath.
Fixiton: Griffin McElroy.  Yeah you fuckin’ heard me.  Ironfist/Fixiton needs to have an excitable and charismatic voice that is nonetheless intensely fuckin’ nerdy.
Hot Rod: Josh Keaton.  Hot Rod needs to sound young and self involved, but not in an offputting way.  We could do worse than having a former Spider-Man in the role.
Arcee: Hyden Walch.  I’d want this take on Arcee to be just as much of an asskicker as her Prime incarnation, but at the same time keep the warmth of her G1 cartoon counterpart.
Drift: Phil LaMarr, and yeah basically we’d make him Samurai Jack.
Bumblebee:  Jeremy Shada.  Or, alternatively, we REALLY do as shows like Adventure Time did and find a new young kid with great voice acting chops for the part and let him grow into the role.
Tailgate: Kate Micucci.  She’s versatile and has great comedic timing.
Swerve: John Mulaney.
Whirl: John Dimaggio.  And yeah it’d basically be Bender.
Shockwave: Claudia Black.  A somewhat immoral female character with plans to defy the natural order who represses her emotions?  Yeah the voice of Morrigan would fit.
Soundwave: Ellen McClain.  Soundwave’s voice is going to be processed to hell and back but still needs to be emotive and preferably alluring even when terrifying.
Starscream: Jeff Bennett.  This might seem like an odd choice, but his serenely manic take on the Joker from Batman the Brave and the Bold would be a fun way to play with how Starscream is usually presented.
Sunstorm: Justin Roiland.  Sunstorm is a volatile person and you don’t get more volatile than Prince Lemongrab.
Cyberwarp: Tara Strong.  She’s played conflicted characters who were born into villainy but rebelled before.
Slipstream: Grey DeLisle.  Hey, she had to show up here somewhere.
Bludgeon: Steve Blum, because we need that wonderful growling voice somewhere on this list.
Cyclonus: Kimberly Brooks.  Cyclonus needs a ferocious edge to her.
Knockout: Daran Norris was and still is perfect.
Nickel: Shelby Rabara.  Yeah Peridot’s gonna be Knockout’s fellow medic.
Lugnut: No one will ever do it better than David Kaye.

Now I'm curious. What four canon Spider-man relationships do you not like?
Okay when I say that I love all canon Spider-Man relationships I really do mean it. Peter/Tana, a girl he meets at a costume party and then attempts to propose to after like 20 days OUR TIME, from the newspaper comic strip? Hell yeah. I basically lose all shipping standards as soon as Spider-Man het comes into play. BUT:
1) Peter/Deb Whitman
Tumblr media
Listen, any time you have to say “and then she had a mental breakdown” you probably don’t have a great relationship. Poor Deb Whitman here is QUEEN of getting ditched by Peter Parker, a long and terrible tradition. She was working as a secretary at ESU while he was a TA and unfortunately fell into his field of animal magnetism or whatever it is about him. She’s a quieter personality and he tends to dominate the situation if left unchecked, which unfortunately led to a lot of this:
Tumblr media
Ditch him, Deb!! ANYWAY, Deb had a rough past and mental health problems and eventually began hallucinating that he was… Spider-Man. Yeah. She left the book not long after, but there was a whole thing about a psychiatrist wanting Peter to dress up like Spider-Man to snap her out of it and yeaaaaaaah.
There was also a bit of a love triangle where Peter would continually internal monologue about how he wasn’t that into her but also hated that she was also seeing another guy. Peter.
2) Peter/Cindy Moon
Tumblr media
I feel like the phrase “when we’re together our spider-sides kick in” sums up my issues with Peter and Cindy meeting and then being overwhelmed by the urge to bang every time they were around each other because this is some kind of WEREWOLF FANFIC. Which, don’t get me wrong, I would be here for it, if it were werewolf fanfic, but it’s not werewolf fanfic, it’s a published Spider-Man comic featuring the first appearance of a character who just spent the last ten years locked in a bunker.
Cindy’s great! This first story is not. Anna Maria spraying them with water is, unfortunately, hilarious.
Tumblr media
Then there was all the “the bride” stuff from Spider-Verse. It just wasn’t my thing. Sidenote: I miss Silk.
3) Peter/Lian Tang
Tumblr media
I mean, there’s footage, I just didn’t save any of it. Uh, basically, she worked for Parker Industries, they were sleeping together for a little while there, there was no build-up to the relationship or anything, she was leaking company info to Zodiac, Sajani got fired because of it and I’m not sure that was ever addressed, blah blah I don’t know I stopped reading for a while there before Clone Conspiracy had to be my entire deal and drag me back in. This is more just a case of “I don’t care” than an actual dislike though I do remember a weird scene of her like, feeding him dumplings. Anyway! This was very brief. According to the wiki she attempted to kill him at one point, which is fair. She was coerced but regardless. Fair.
4) Peter/Carlie Cooper
Tumblr media
I say this with infinite affection, because he’s one of my favorite characters of all time: I want to shove him off a pier.
Peter/Carlie I feel suffers from being the first serious relationship after his devil divorce and the erasure of his marriage in One More Day because how do you compare to PeterMJ. You don’t. It’s not on Carlie! The deck was stacked against what is arguably the most iconic and beloved Marvel relationship of all time. There’s usually a really good sense of chemistry in Spider-Man relationships, like with Gwen, or Felicia, or Mary Jane, and it just never clicked between Peter and Carlie for me as a reader.
Tumblr media
This scene where Carlie’s on a roller derby team and she crashes into MJ had more chemistry than the entire PeterCarlie relationship:
Tumblr media
Everything after Carlie learns he’s Spider-Man and they break up is great, though:
Tumblr media
Yes, he was serious.
Although, I really like this line from Carlie about Peter as a piece of Peter characterization, and as a meta thing about how I feel readers interact with Spider-Man The Brand and The Image, although given the quote it’s really not a sign these people should be in a relationship:
