Headcanons: Kuroko, Kagami, Murasakibara and Akashi with an s/o that they thought was older

Kuroko

He’s a generally very observant person, but you acted so much older that his intuition convinced him that you were a third year at least

He absolutely adored how independent and mature you were as well

So when you two began dating, he didn’t really question your age

Furthermore, he’s a very polite boy so he knew that asking for your age would seem rude

The two of you went to different schools so that’s why it took him some time to figure out that you were a first year like he was

Your school was right next to Seirin so he’d often come pick you up afterwards so you could walk home together

One day, you were in a bit of a frenzy because you realised that you’d left an important notebook in your classroom

So Kuroko offered to hold your things for you while he waited outside

While he was waiting, he spotted your student ID card hanging from your bag

Curious to see a cute picture of you, he pulled it closer to him

Of course, you looked as beautiful as ever to him

But what really caught his eye was the detail about your class

“I’m back,” you panted after having jogged all the way back because you didn’t want to keep him waiting

“Oh Y/N, did you get your book?” he asked you and you nodded, waving it in the air for him to see

He handed you your things back and the two of you began to walk

“I didn’t know you were a first year, Y/N,” he said, his usually expressionless face showing a tint of confusion and surprise

Kuroko took your hand in his and gave it a tight squeeze, “Don’t be silly. I like you for you, not your age.”

As cheesy as it was, you felt your heart melt

It was weird how he always knew exactly what to say

You didn’t really bring it up after that because the relationship was fairly new and you were still learning more about each other

It didn’t change the fact that you definitely acted older than he was at times

And it often led to it slipping his mind every now and then

He has like one working braincell so it’s a miracle that he realised at all

The two of you went to the same school, but you were in different classes so since he didn’t see you around much, he assumed you were older

He’d often see you around the school courtyard during recess and he thought you were quite hot

It took him a bit of time, but he finally mustered the courage to ask you out

The only thing he knew about you was your name because Kuroko told him

So he walked up to you when you were wandering around alone

Despite looking quite confident, he was incredibly nervous on the inside

“Hey, you’re Y/N right?” he asked

“Yeah, I am. Um, aren’t you Kagami, from the basketball team?” you said, knowing full well who he was because you’d gone to a few of the games and found him incredibly attractive

“Yep, Kagami Taiga,” he nodded affirmatively, “I was wondering whether you’d like to hang out with me some time.”

He wasn’t really expecting you to say yes to be honest, as he thought about why a third year would want to go out with a younger boy

“Like a date?” you asked, your straightforwardness only convincing Kagami that you were older even more

“Uh y-yeah,” he said, beginning to get a bit flustered because he was expecting you to just laugh in his face

“Sure, that sounds fun,” you nodded, acting cool on the outside though you were fangirling on the inside

“Wait really?” he said, eyes widening as he realised that you’d actually agreed

You laughed and nodded, before exchanging numbers

The two of you ended up dating for some time after that, all while Kagami still believed that you were older than he was

Sure he’d walk you to and from school, but you usually waited for him outside the gate so he never found out what class you were in

He didn’t even ask because he was just so excited to be dating someone older

Plus he found you so hot that any relatively coherent thought would be thrown out the window whenever you were together

A few weeks into dating you, the two of you had already gotten pretty intimate, and you seemed so experienced with everything you did

It was hard for him to keep his hands off of you

He’d also be really proud about dating you that he’d tell almost everyone he knew

One day, you had a project and you needed to carry a lot of stuff to your classroom

So being the gentleman he is, he offered to carry it for you

You began heading towards your classroom which was a few rooms down the hall from his one, but he just stopped and looked at you with a confused expression

“Y/N, where are you going? Aren’t the third year classrooms in the floor above?” he asked you

“Yeah, but my class is here,” you said, pointing at your first year classroom

“You’re a first year?” he asked, jaw nearly dropping to the floor

“Yeah, what did you think? We’re the same age,” you said, still trying to make sense of what he was getting at

“Oh god,” he said, his cheeks turning as red as his hair, “I thought you were a third year,” he mumbled

You began to laugh at the sound of those words, “A third year? Why would you think that?”

“I don’t know... you just seemed more mature and sexy,” he said, mumbling that last word as his eyes became fixated on the ground

“Taiga, we’ve literally studied together, how did you not realise we were in the same year?”

“I don’t know! I thought you were just helping me!” he groaned, wanting to die of embarrassment at this point. “Can we please move on?”

You agreed to move on at that moment, but you kept bringing it up for the rest of the day and he just learned to take it

When he brought it up to Kuroko, he just stared at Kagami with disappointment

“Kagami-kun, you dated her for almost a month, how did you not know?”

“Just shut up.”

Murasakibara

He met you at this cafe that he liked to frequent

You worked there part time so you were very familiar with him (how could anyone really forget the 2 metre tall, purple-haired boy that orders an ungodly amount of pastries every time)

He never really thinks about other people, but since he saw you quite often he began to wonder what you were like

He thought that you were very hot— like very hot

So he naturally began to assume that you were older

“There’s no way someone my age could be that hot”

He was quite nervous when he finally decided to ask you out one day because if you said no, he’d probably have to find a new cafe to go to to avoid the awkwardness

And he really liked his cafe

After a few stutters and nervous laughter, you’d agreed to go on a date with him and he was elated

The fact that he thought you were older didn’t really have an effect on how he behaved around you

Sure, he was nervous at first because he wanted to impress you

But as time went on, like most of Murasakibara’s other peers, you ended up having to care for him a lot

Which only drove him to believe that you were older even more

Plus the way your lips moved whenever he kissed you seemed so experienced

However, he did question why someone as mature as you were would entertain his childish antics, but he didn’t think too much of it

And to be honest, he wouldn’t have ever found out that you were the same age as he was until he was zoning in and out of a conversation between you and Himuro

For some reason, Himuro was aware of your actual age so he was just normally talking about the differences between the syllabus in your school and Yosen

“Oh I don’t think we’ve gotten to that chapter yet,” you said when he was complaining about the difficulty of a particular topic

“Huh? Shouldn’t you have finished it two years ago?” Murasakibara chimed in

“What? Why would I have done that?” you asked as a confused expression overtook yours and Himuro’s faces

“Because it’s a first year topic, isn’t it?” Murasakibara said, popping a potato chip into his mouth

“Yeah... and I’m still in first year,” you said slowly, failing to understand why he’d say something like that

He nearly choked on his potato chip

“You’re in first year?” He said, surprise filled in his usually unbothered tone

“Yeah, why do you sound so surprised?” you replied

“I thought you were a third year,” he said, bewildered as he turned to Himuro, “Muro-chin, did you know this?”

“Yeah I did. Haven’t you been dating her for like, three months now?” Himuro questioned as you brought a palm to your face in disbelief

“It’s been four months actually, Atsushi,” you sighed, “why’d you think I was a third year? Do I look that much older?”

“You’re just too hot to be a first year okay,” he groaned, munching on his chips in frustration

“Aw really?” you smiled, looking up at his flushed face

“Yeah,” he murmured

“In that case, I’ll let it slide,” you said sweetly as you placed a kiss on his cheek, making a small smile appear on his lips

However, Himuro didn’t miss the opportunity to bring it up to annoy him every now and then

Akashi

He’s such a smartass that I feel like it’s nearly impossible that he wouldn’t know that you’re not a third year upon meeting you

However, when he met you, there was a brief moment where he thought that you were older

His team was playing a practice match against your school and you were the team manager

The way you carried yourself and the way that you seemed rather mature compared to the people around you, led him to consider the possibility that you were older than he was

Unlike everyone else, he’d probably figure out your actual age upon first meeting you

Once the match was over, he spotted you with your hands full of dirty towels so he decided to help because he’s a gentleman like that

“Hey, let me get some of that for you,” he said, taking half the pile into his arms

You gave him a grateful smile, surprised that he was helping you when no one from your own team offered to help

“Thank you, um, Akashi Seijuro, right?” you said, even though you were sure that it was his name

“Yes, you can call me Sei, if you like.”

“Just a few months, I’m still a first year after all,” you replied

He was a bit surprised, because he found you much more attractive than other girls your age

Furthermore, you had this sultry, independent reeled him in and made him think that you were older

He didn’t show any of this surprise on his face though

In fact, he looked like he never even had a doubt in the first place

And to be honest, with his ego, he’d never admit that he was wrong anyways

Description: While waiting to receive Kyungsoo at the airport you run into an insufferable someone - Byun Baekhyun. Despite yourself, you are unable to resist his charms.

“He’s a lawyer”, you tilted your head to the side with your nose in the air, foolishly waving your platinum band bearing hand in his general direction. Byun Baekhyun, the man you’d met barely thirty minutes ago, had managed to bring out your inner “chatty Cathy” while eyeing you with the slightest of the smirks tugged at his lips. It was nauseating. The smirk, his bouffant persona, the way he slurped his ramen, his unkempt fake blond hair - he insisted on running a hand though the annoying yet bountiful tousle ever so often - disheveling it further. One glance at his showy Rolex and you’d written him off as a wealthy fop. Yet, here you were, seated in front of him, trying to make sense of the situation.

Kyungsoo’s flight was delayed by over an hour. Although you wanted nothing more than to find the inviting comfort of your bed, you decided to keep your promise of picking him up from the airport. Even if it meant spending time with this strange (literally and figuratively) man. You were no night owl. Therefore, you needed the caffeine fix to stay conscious so you huddled to the coffee shop closest to the arrival gate only to run into him again. The single vacant seat happened to be on his tiny table which he graciously put up for offer - I’m Byun Baekhyun. And I don’t bite! Apart from the unbridled desire to prick his inflated ego with a needle, you realized you’d come on a bit too strong earlier when he mistakenly put his hand on yours while going for the same copy of Forbes in the magazine kiosk. Was he apologetic then? No. Not really. But you didn’t have to pull an ugly face and call him a creep. Sure, lack of sleep made you crabby but you shouldn’t have taken it out on him. It wasn’t your best moment.

You took the seat because (a) never had a person made you feel so conflicted about them. Always too quick to judge, within a few moments you could tell whether you liked someone or absolutely didn’t care about them. But with him you honestly couldn’t figure out whether you loathed him or were in absolute awe of his unabashed demeanor (b) you wanted to make absolutely unnecessary amends.

“What was his name, again?”, stretching and yawning he leaned back in his chair. His shoulders widened to full glory. Lazily, he ran a hand over his chest. Realization hit you like a truck. You were blatantly staring and he’d caught you in the act. Your eyes met his and it made you want to punch that stupid, now very prominent, smirk off of his face. It was time for damage control. Attack, after all, is the best defense.

“Looks like you’re bored. I shall stop”, you said tersely, moving to quickly grab your things.

“It’s 2:45 a.m. Can you blame me?”, he yanked your wallet out of your hand and shoved it in his back pocket, “Continue the story”

“Yahhhhh, give me back my wallet”, you glowered at him.

“Story first”, he sang pulling the wallet out and waving it at you. “Yahhh!”, as you lunged forward, he instinctively drew further back. Frowning, he suddenly ducked under the table.

“What - what happened?”, a quizzical expression clouded your face.

“I’m looking for something”, he mumbled rising gradually. Was that a pout?

“Yah, I can tell. What are you looking for?”

“Your manners. You seem to have suddenly dropped them somewhere”

You felt your face flame, “Byun Baekhyun-ssi!”

“Please, you can call me oppa”

“I may be older, you know?”

“Your cheeks tell an entirely different story”, he chuckled

Fuming, you untied your hair in a desperate attempt to frame your perfectly round face, “Doh Kyungsoo”, you deadpanned.

“Byun Baekhyun”, confused, he pointed at himself.

“Doh Kyungsoo, my fiance”

“Ah… Sounds as boring as ‘civil lawyer’”

“Ha! So he is a civil lawyer! So what do your dates look like? Haunting worn down museums? Marvelling over runes?”, he swayed dreamily, eyelids fluttering.

Your saccharine smile didn’t reach your eyes, “Byun Baekhyun-ssi, what do your dates with your girl look like?”

You were surprised to see a genuine smile grace his face. Albeit unconsciously, you mirrored him. It was warm and luminous, his smile, and you were enchanted.

“Ahem”, the ridiculous smirk came back on, “Dates with my Yoona?”

So, there is a girl. You felt a slight pang of jealousy. You prayed for it to not reflect in your eyes.

“My Yoona?” you gagged dramatically and he responded with an equally dramatic loud sigh.

“Let’s see….long walks by the Han river, a little after sunset.. We walk all the way up to the Namsan Tower. She looks radiant in the moonlight… just my Yoona and me...relaxing...chilling”, he smiled like a heavily infatuated thirteen year old.

“That’s a really long walk. Oppa doesn’t have a driver’s license?”, you chided.

He guffawed, “Guess you and Mr. - ?

“Doh! Mr. Doh of Doh, Gom and Associates!”,

“Yes, you and Mr. Doh of Doh - Gom - and Associates”, his words slow, deliberate, “wouldn’t recognize romance if it danced naked in front of you. And that platinum band”, he paused, slowly shaking his head.

You drew your hand close to your chest defensively, “What about it?”

“So… a very close friend of mine got engaged recently and I went ring shopping with him. It was an intense drill. But now I know all there is to know about the right cut, hallmark, color, purity, you get the drift. And that”, he took a piteous glance at the ring.

“I could really do without the condescension”

“I’m sorry, but it looks thrift store bought”

“Baekhyun-ssi, your limited experience may have falsely led you into believing that you’re a connoisseur of platinum. But if you care to look past your high-end store shopping spree, you’ll see that this is heirloom”

“Does it have P-950 stamped on it?”

Your glare shut him up and he raised his hands in surrender. Pouting. Again.

You gawked at him in pure admiration. How could a man like that be capable of the most endearing pouts was beyond you.

“Look, I don’t know if you care about Kyungsoo but the flight should’ve landed by now and I don’t want to keep my friend waiting after a red eye flight… so”, he got up to leave and you hurriedly followed suit, “it was an absolute pleasure meeting you”

Your hand met his in a firm handshake which neither of you cared to break for a good thirty seconds. You knew you’d never see this man again and you felt a certain unpleasantness wash over you at the thought.

His captivating grin made an appearance, accelerating your heartbeat.

You exited the coffee shop first and when you turned around to look for him, he was gone.

You greeted Kyungsoo with a punch in the shoulder, “You’re late”

“I tried but they wouldn’t let me into the cockpit”, he said pinching your ear with one hand and twisting your arm with the other.

You successfully managed to wiggle of his strong grasp and attack him with a bear hug, “I’ve missed you”

He softly patted your head before your show of affection started to smother him. Breaking out of your hug he teased, “Tsk, tsk, you’ve grown soft”

“Can you blame me? My best friend moved to a strange city to farm! He’s not been around much to toughen me up” You didn’t care that he hated it. You leaned in to hug him, anyway, “any progress on the land dispute?”

“I’ll be seeing a lawyer for it”, he indulged you by continuing to gently sway you. Apparently, he’d missed you, too.

“Hmm...a civil lawyer”, you contemplated.

“What’s that?”

“Nothing”, you sighed pulling away from him to call a cab, “When are you seeing this lawyer”

“Right now”

“What? Kyungsoo! It’s 4 in the morning! Can’t this wait?

“No”, he deftly locked your phone, “because he also happens to be a friend of mine and he’s here and he has offered to drive us home”

“He’s here?”

Kyungsoo forced your head to take a 180 degree turn.

You froze at the sight of the blond haired man standing in front of you. Your eyes barely short of pleading, you grabbed Kyungsoo’s hand lacing your fingers with his.

Baekhyun chuckled, “Congratulations, man. I didn’t know you were engaged!”

“Engaged? No, I’m not engaged!” Kyungsoo's voice now a several notches louder.

You were quick to nudge Kyungsoo’s arm with your elbow and snicker softly, “He likes to joke when he’s tired...We’re all tired. Won’t you bring your car now, Baekhyun-ssi?”

“You two know each other?” Nothing made sense to Kyungsoo anymore.

Your feeble No was drowned by Baekhyun’s loud Yes.

“Anyway..”, Kyungsoo introduced you to Baekhyun as his best friend and it made you want to be on the next expedition to Mars.

“And this is Byun Baekhyun. My elementary school friend”. Baekhyun handed you a business card which you accepted with trembling fingers.

“I don’t know… at first I didn’t want him to think I was available. So I started to spin a web of lies. Then I was curious to see how far I could go, you know, without faltering. Besides, you always keep calling me a bad liar. He was just...in the wrong place at the wrong time, I guess…”, you let out a huge yawn.

Kyungsoo flicked your forehead. “Couldn’t you have found someone else to be your guinea pig? It had to be my lawyer? The airport is swarming with people - ”

“AND viruses!”, you adjusted your mask pointedly, “Yet, here I am. For your ungrateful ass!”

“Soo! HELP”, you cried.

“Forget this ever happened. You’re never going to see him again, anyway”, he was dismissive of your plea.

“Soo, but I want to”, you said in a small voice.

Kyungsoo was too dumbfounded to speak. His eyes did all the talking.

“I want to see him again”, you avoided his eyes.

Still, nothing.

“It’s a crisis situation, Soo!”, defeated, your face slumped into his chest, “I think I’m in love with a man who apparently has a girlfriend and most probably thinks that I’m a pathological liar.”

Aaah I love this ask, I myself am majoring in graphic design right now and let me tell you, the support that artists and designers get isn’t much to begin with so I’d like to think that the boys would be supportive. So I often get like the whole “wow a creative amongst the academics”. A lot of people think that my area of study is just so drastically different because its not academically driven like the sciences or social sciences are and it can get kind of annoying sometimes. I have been so often told to my face that “anyone can do what you’re doing” and that what I study is “easy” and that just makes me so frustrated, so we’re not gonna get into that whole conversation. But like if anyone wants me to share my thoughts on the subject I’d be more than willing to because the creative fields always get shit on for being “easy” fields.

TLDR; Support artists and designers, there’s a lot more that goes into our work and our studies than is made out to believe. Now onto the ask.

Akashi: He finds out about your art when he comes across your sketchbook one day. You left it open on your desk when you went to go get a glass of water and he had just happened to walk by when you were away. He’s impressed by the sketches you’ve done within the coil bound pages. He understands the hard work you put into them and would ask to see more of your work, though he won’t push if you don’t want to, knowing that sketchbooks are fairly private and personal. He himself having his own artistic side with his violin appreciates your talents and the work that you do to improve on your drawings.

“They’re quite impressive, there’s no need for you to hide them from me”

Aomine: He finds out about your art by chance when he wakes up from a nap to see you staring at him intently, startling him. He notices the little book and pencil in your hands gets curious, wanting to see what it is that you’re scribbling within it. He’s persistent and won’t take no for an answer so when you finally show him he’s surprised to see a sketch of himself in his sleeping state. If he decides to flip through your sketchbook he’ll see multiple drawings of him asleep in different poses, lying down, slumped on the couch, sitting against a wall– there are so many. He likes the fact that he’s been made a subject of so many of your drawings without even knowing that he was and will offer to pose for any studies you may need.

“Next time you do another one of these it better not be while I’m asleep”

Kagami: Deadass I feel like Kagami would be one of those people who doesn’t like “get art” lmao, like you know those people in galleries that look at pieces and kinda just look confused LOOL one of those people. He finds out about your art when he’s at your place and sees one of your pieces, a little sculpture that you had been working on that still needed to be painted. He’ll stare at it for a bit and won’t say anything even when you notice him looking at it. Even after he’s gotten over that initial “what is that?” feeling he won’t say much, probably just a “that’s cool” or a “it looks like a sprout of asparagus”, just something random off the top of his mind. Despite not really understanding art and the concepts that go into art, he appreciates the love and time that you put into it and is glad that you have a creative outlet that makes you happy.

Kise: This boy is supportive of everything that you do and art is no exception. He finds out about your art one day when he’s flipping through the study notes that you gave him cause lord knows he needed help with one of his classes and you so graciously put together some of your notes for him to study with. As he’s looking through your notes he notices the little doodles and drawings that you have within the margins of the pages. Although those are just little doodles he finds himself focusing more on the drawings than the notes he should be looking at. He’ll probably end up asking to see more of your notes just to see more of your drawings and when you start getting suspicious he’ll be happy to let you know how much he likes your drawings and doodles and would love to see more.

Kuroko: He finds out about your art one day not through seeing it on his own but through hearing about it from others. You painted a piece as a gift for a friend and that friend went on to gush about how beautiful they thought it was in the class the next day, telling everyone about how they and hung it up in their room and stuff like that. He’d be interested in seeing your pieces and may bring it up the next time the two of you are together. When you end up showing him one of your paintings he’s really impressed by them. After you show him one of your pieces he would love to be there to see the process and will join you every so often when you’re painting just to watch you at work and spend some time with you while you’re creating your pieces.

Midorima: He finds out about your art when he stumbles across it online one day. He somehow found your online Behance portfolio and ended up looking through the gallery of digital paintings for quite a while. He’s interested in your pieces because he’s more familiar with traditional mediums so the fact that you use a digital medium makes him curious. He won’t bring it up to you on his own, figuring that you would share it with him when you’re ready. Despite this, he keeps up with your portfolio, making his own account just so he can follow you and give your pieces likes an support your work without you even knowing that he knows about it what a sneaky bitch.

Murasakibara: He walks in on you one day making a mess. He doesn’t say anything when he notices the canvas in front of you and realizes you’re working on something. There’s a canvas set in front of you with little bits and bobs already laid on top of it from you cutting and collaging a piece together. He’ll probably end up sitting with you and watch you work, and will even help you while you work, cutting out bits and pieces from the different magazines that you’ve already partially destroyed that he thinks that you may want to add to your piece. He finds that helping you out with your collaging is a nice way to just spend some time mindlessly cutting things out on his end so he’ll probably end up doing it often.

Kuroko & Aomine:

At first Kuroko would h a t e it. Despite the criticism of his original body type from others, this boy loves himself from head to toe.

Getting accustomed to Aomine’s tall frame, long limbs, and lean muscles would take time, but I think Kuroko would learn to appreciate them.

Okay so obviously the boys would have to switch lives until they find out how to swap back. Kuroko would roast the living hell out of Aomine for choosing to live the way he does (it be like that Goofy “bitch you live like this” memenksdfm).

Aomine-kun, how it is possible that your room smells that bad?

I used out two bottles of air freshener and the stench is still there.

Aomine-kun, do you really wear the same uniform pants everyday without washing them?

On the court, he’d be just as dangerous as Aomine…but in a totally different way.

Imagine finally attaining the skills to be an all-around player at something you adore but not knowing how to use those skills? Kuroko would be so sloppy on the courtjsfns

He’d have the physique of a natural basketball player but wouldn’t have Aomine’s years of refining so he’d be horrible at control, especially since Aomine is a streetballer.

I think Kuroko would want to stick to his style of basketball anyway. When he realizes it’s impossible for him to remain unnoticed, he sticks to making shots and using Aomine’s strength to pass the ball quickly. Also, defense? He’d be a monster.

Touou would be so confused when they see Aomine passing the ball more often than usual. Wakamatsu would suspect that he’s up to no good and corner Kuroko in the locker room to warn him that he has his “eye on [him.]”

MOMOI WOULD BE SO HAPPYYY! But also extremely uncomfortable because she’d develop a crush on Kuroko’s conscience in Aomine’s body. I headcanon that she doesn’t care much about appearance. Well actually, that’s pretty canon anyway.

Watching Aomine’s body do everything that she wishes he would, would be an odd experience: working hard, putting his team’s needs above his own, performing random acts of kindness. She’d constantly slap herself and scold, “Wake up, Momoi! Get your head together! You like Tetsu, not that blockhead. TetsuTetsuTetsuTetsu-

This also makes me think of how Kuroko would handle the experience of having darker skin. And not only that but having Aomine’s physique while having darker skin. It would definitely be different from his own. I think he’d walk away from the body swap with newfound insight on who Aomine is as a person.

Aomine would be so aggravated lol

No more naturally athletic body. No more fast reflexes. No more running a mile and hardly breaking a sweat.

As a matter-of-fact he’d break all the sweats in Kuroko’s body. He’d barely make it two laps without his chest burning.

Would he be able to achieve Kuroko’s legendary pass? Hm. Challenge me but I would say yes. Apart from Aomine being incredibly adaptable, he’s stopped Kuroko’s pass before. He has the power and expertise to achieve it b u t will it be exactly like Kuroko’s? Hell no.

Aomine would be around Kagami 90% of the time so you know what that meanssss

Fights where Aomine is like “YOU WANNA GO?!” and Kagami is like “HELL YEAH I WANNA GO B-BUT NOT WHILE YOU’RE TETSU! I’LL HURT HIS LITTLE BABY BODY!”

Shooting contests in the middle of practice? Hell yeah. (Until Riko sets them skraight)

Burger eating contests at Maji Burger? Oh ho ho most definitely. (Until Aomine throws up red-brown chunks since Kuroko’s little belly can’t handle all that beef.)

Who can do the most burpees in one go after a practice game? No sweat. (lol Actually a very big sweat. Kuroko’s body is going to Break.)

This goes on until Kuroko gives Aomine a very stern talking to.

AOMINE WOULD BE SUCH A BABY ABOUT KUROKO’S LOW PRESENCE I’M CRYING

He wouldn’t be upset that he’s not the center of attention. Honestly, I feel like he’d be more happy blending in because he doesn’t care for others’ opinions of him either way. As long as they leave him alone, he’s good.

It would be about respect.

Just imagine it.

People bumping into him and barely apologizing. Him gesturing for a pass on the court and a teammate failing to notice. People skipping him in lines when he’s literally RIGHT THERE.

He wouldn’t have the tolerance for it. It makes him feel weak since, in his original body, he can’t go unnoticed no matter how hard he tries.

I think Kuroko’s patience is what Aomine would learn to respect from this experience.

Akashi & Murasakibara:

Okay, okay, okay

So Akashi and Murasakibara are the complete opposite of one another in almost every possible way which is the EXACT reason why this is the PERFECT body swap.

So first off, Akashi is not letting Mura out of his sight. That’s a firm no-no. He’s reserving a room for him in his father’s mansion ASAP. Challenge me on this, I will go to the grave with it because there is no way that Akashi is not turning this into one of his personal projects.

Not that Mura would have a problem with it. He’d have a bigger, warmer bed to sleep in and an endless supply of snacks (even though Akashi would limit his snoozing time and portion his meals).

Akashi would create a “How to be Akashi Seijurou 101” class for Mura

It involves developing good people skills, answering phone calls, using table manners, Akaashi’s night routine, how to keep track of the percentage of equity his father’s company owns in several properties, you know simple things like that

He has to sit through it for 2 hours daily

Mura only lasts 2 minutes

Once t h a t fails, Akashi gets realistic and makes a smart decision: he puts Mura in charge of investing

But not just investing in anything

Investing in restaurants :)

The boy is a pro at picking out spots with 1) good food, 2) a beautiful and comfy atmosphere and 3) great hospitality

Mura gets to go to restaurants weekly for complementary taste-testings, courtesy of the chef and is often invited to the kitchen to see what’s happening

Akashi in Murasakibara’s body wouldn’t be much of a shift.

This is the King of Adapting we’re talking about here.

He’d have his wardrobe in Mura’s size by the next day.

He’d request his personal barber to trim his split ends and wear it in a bun at all times. (He actually wants to cut it off but he respects Mura’s boundaries.)

Akaashi would be the most honest out of all of GOM. He’d have meetings with every necessary person in his life and all involved (his basketball team and his father, Mura’s parents, Mura’s team, maybe even GOM)

The rest would have to deal with Murasakibara’s (body’s) abrupt 180 in choice of lifestyle

Himuro would be in Hell.

Both him and Akaashi are leaders. Akaashi stepping into his territory, especially in Mura’s body (a person Himuro is used to taking care of), would throw Himuro alllllll the way off and their dominant personalities would clash

Akaashi be fine on the court

He’d still have his ability since it’s not very physical, more mental

Playing D wouldn’t be a problem at all

But taking a back seat so the captain of the team can actually be the fucking captain oh ho ho ho no boy

Poor Himuro

Kise & Midorima:

Kise wouldn’t enjoy the switch

He would complain until he couldn’t anymore BUT he’d make the best of the situation like he usually does

He’d make it his duty to give Midorima a makeover

New clothes, new shoes, colored contacts? Why not

Takao would be down to clown at first but once Kise starts redecorating Midorima’s locker with things other than Mido’s charms, he gets nervous

Kise wouldn’t have a problem on the court since he’s done a version Midorima’s shot tons of times before BUT everyone wouldn’t despise his whining

Like Takao would make it his mission to convince the team to lock the kid in the equipment room for a practice

Midorima would be p i s s e d

He’d wanna beat Kise’s assnfdk

After the initial panic attack, I think he’d be chill about everything

He would be convinced that the planets and the stars are responsible for the swap and therefore, there is clearly something he’s supposed to get out of this

So he buys some glasses and rolls with it

Most if his time would be spent pulling up to Shutoku to check on his body, blowing up Kise’s phone to check on his body, dropping off lucky items to Kise before school to protect what? You guessed it. His body

That and trying to figure out a way to swap back

Because a full school day with Kise is most definitely an adventure

Kasamatsu and Midorima would butt heads on the court but other than that, they’d be fine. Once Mido makes it clear that he is not “that jovial idiot” the upperclassmen has gotten accustomed to, Kasamatsu leaves him alone

Kasamatsu would want one thing and one thing only: for them to hurry up and switch back (he secretly misses his buddy)

Which GoM member is strongest?

I’ve been fascinated with this concept for a long time. So, I’m finally going to sit down and compare every member’s abilities to try and figure out who is the strongest member of the Generation of Miracles. I already have my own opinion, but I’ll save that for later. Be prepared here, there’s gonna be spoilers because I’ve seen the entire anime and the movie twice, and that’s just how it’s gonna go.

TL;DR will be in bold.

So, it was said in the beginning of Kuroko no Basket that Kise was the weakest member of the GoM, and it was said that Aomine bloomed faster and more so than the rest of the members. Is that the answer? They’ve all been called monsters, so is one really stronger than another, or are they all equally strong in their own ways? Just as an aside, I am including Kuroko in the lineup of the Generation of Miracles as he is the Phantom Sixth Man. I’m not including Haizaki because, to be honest, if he was of the caliber that the GoM is, then they would’ve been called the Generation of Miracles a lot sooner. Momoi won’t be in here either because she doesn’t actually play, although her mentality is said to be that of an athlete. Let’s get started and talk about this in order of appearance.

Kuroko Tetsuya

So, as we know, Kuroko’s talents come from his use of misdirection, which he painstakingly developed in Teiko under Akashi’s tutelage. Kuroko’s high intelligence allows him to observe his opponents and misdirect their line of sight to suit the ability he’s using. His abilities include: misdirection, invisible pass, Cyclone Pass, Ignite Pass, Ignite Pass Kai, Vanishing Drive, Misdirection Overflow, Phantom Shot, and Quasi-Emperor Eye. Not all of these tricks involve shifting his opponents line of sight, but they have all proven useful against the other five members of the Generation of Miracles.

Kuroko’s passes use his lack of presence to pass the ball around to his teammates without the other team noticing. His Ignite Pass and Ignite Pass Kai (pictured above) simply speed the ball up to a point where the opposing team cannot block or steal them. His Cyclone Pass is useful for cutting the ball across the court in a matter of seconds, and his Phantom Shot is a shot that can’t be seen. In addition to these, his Misdirection Overflow can only be used when his invisibility runs out. This allows him to transfer his Vanishing Drive--an ability that lets him drive past his opponents without being seen--to his teammates. His Quasi-Emperor Eye also allows him to see the future of his teammates’ movements so he can act accordingly to help them.

So, is Kuroko potentially the strongest member? No, most likely not. At least, not on his own. However, the reason I’m bringing Kuroko up at all is because he is still deserving of the GoM title. Physically, he is clearly inferior to the other five members. The same goes for ability. However, his mentality is, hands down, the strongest in the group. His game-sense rivals that of Akashi, and in my opinion, exceeds Akashi’s. Kuroko’s abilities are awesome to watch, but his real strength is his will, his intelligence, and his observational skills. With those, he can easily find his opponents weaknesses and use them to help his team win.

It’s true that Kuroko is stronger if he’s coupled with a stronger opponent and works better when he’s a part of a team, however, what he contributes individually is something that not even the Generation of Miracles starters could replicate.

Kise Ryōta

Kise is, personally, my favorite member of the GoM starters. However, I wasn’t all that impressed by his abilities the first time I saw them, and it wasn’t that far of a stretch for me to imagine that the other four members were stronger than he was. However, this was before I fully understood the merit of Kise’s abilities. They include: copying, Perfect Copy, and the Zone. It isn’t nearly as long as Kuroko’s list, but Kise’s use of these abilities aren’t something to overlook.

Kise can copy any player’s move or style and use it in his play. The reason I wasn’t that impressed with Kise in the beginning was because, to me, it just looked like Kise saw a move that he couldn’t beat and used it because he doesn’t have his own great ability. That’s extremely misguided, though. It isn’t that Kise can’t do his own plays, he just frequently uses things he sees other people do. Personally, I think it serves the double purpose of throwing off the opponents’ focus and reliving Kise of the task of trying to get around a barrier that he wouldn’t know how to get around otherwise. Also, I think Kise copying a player’s moves is a sign that he respects and admires that person’s abilities because he deems them good enough to use.

Perfect Copy (pictured above) is a step up from his normal copying ability because he copies the Generation of Miracles’ moves, something he couldn’t do until the Winter Cup during his first year in high school. The issue with this ability is that he has to compensate for the imperfections with another element, which takes a huge toll on his body. For example, to replicate Midorima’s shots, he has to use his entire body’s strength at once because otherwise he wouldn’t have the power and accuracy that Midorima naturally has. This ability can only last for five minutes (unless Kise pushes it when he’s desperate), and it can be taxing for his injured foot as well as his stamina.

The final ability listed for Kise is the Zone. This is not something that is exclusive to Kise as Aomine, Murasakibara, Akashi, and Kagami have all been in the Zone. The overhanging benefit for all people in the Zone is that their strength and speed increase. The difference for Kise, however, is that he used Perfect Copy in conjunction with the Zone. So, essentially, he could replicate the GoM members’ Zones. However, both the Zone and Perfect Copy use up an excessive amount of stamina, which is a negative side-effect for Kise’s injured body. The longest amount of time clocked for Kise using Perfect Copy and the Zone in conjunction is three minutes, but there is also no proof that he couldn’t hold both for the full five minutes he gets for Perfect Copy. Midorima stated that while Kise was in this state, he was the strongest player on the court.

So, is Kise the strongest member of the GoM? Well, he’s certainly up there. The simple fact that he can use something like Perfect Copy that is nearly unstoppable on its own at the same time as he’s in the Zone makes it evident that he must be one of the strongest members, if not the strongest. Not many other players could maintain both states at the same time for the period of time that Kise did, all while being injured. On top of that, Perfect Copy essentially means that Kise can be all six members at once. This was also stated by Kagami during their game at the Winter Cup. It is this fact that makes him probably the strongest contender to be the best member of the GoM.

Midorima Shintarō

Midorima is the third member of the GoM to be introduced. Honestly, his abilities are pretty simply as they all have to with shooting, although Midorima is also said to have good strength and speed as well as being good on defense. The abilities that allowed him to be a part of the group known as the Generation of Miracles as well as the abilities he developed in high school include: a high projectile three-pointer, limitless range, sky direct three-pointer, and his perfect accuracy.

Thankfully, his abilities are the easiest to explain. His high projectile three-pointers take a higher arc than normal, allowing him a hard-to-block shot that also never misses. Midorima is able to accurately calculate the distance between himself and the hoop, which lets him sink shots from any place on the court. However, the farther away he is, the longer he takes to get into his shooting form, and the bigger the toll is on his body as he has to use more strength for far shots, though he has been shown to exceed his endurance limit by quite a bit. Actually, Midorima takes a while to enter his shooting form compared to normal regardless. The sky direct three-pointer (pictured above) is a shot that can only be taken when Midorima cooperates with his teammate Takao, although he has been able to do it with Akashi as well. Midorima will enter his shooting form without the ball and then have the ball tossed to him by Takao. While this requires a lot of trust on Midorima’s part, and while sinking the shot requires great skill as well, Takao’s abilities contribute quite a lot to this technique as he has to accurately toss the ball into Midorima’s hands. So, this ability can’t be completely credited to Midorima’s ability.

Could Midorima possibly be the strongest member of the GoM? Aside from the fact that Midorima’s skills are slightly underwhelming, it doesn’t take away from the fact that he’s one of the best bets for scoring points during a game. However, when it comes to the other aspects of basketball, Midorima could potentially fall short. While he can defend, block, and use his speed effectively, he isn’t much of a match for players like Aomine, and Akashi. Then again, in a shootout, Midorima would overtake players like Murasakibara and Kise pretty easily. My opinions are mixed on Midorima’s eligibility to be called the strongest member of the GoM. Let’s keep digging.

Aomine Daiki

Aomine is... something else. I’m not even sure I can sum up his abilities, but I’m going to try. Aomine’s abilities are: his speed and agility, his knowledge of streetball, his ability to change the pace of his play, his animal instincts, and his formless shots. Aomine can also enter into the Zone.

His speed and agility are often combined with his knowledge of streetball to confuse and bypass his opponents. The unconventional movements are useful in a sport like basketball which has been reduced down to predictable plays and movements. Additionally, he can slow down his play while dribbling to fool his opponents into slowing their pace as well, only for Aomine to quickly drive past them. His animal instincts are similar to Kagami’s in that they both have extremely good senses when it comes to what move to make next, and they both do those things with surprising ferocity. Aomine’s real weapons, though, are his formless shots (pictured above). Aomine is able to shoot from any position, and has even made shots while his body was nearly parallel to the ground. They are extremely difficult to predict and block.

The Zone is something else that is available to Aomine, and pretty much what it does for him is increase all of his abilities. So, his already inhuman speed and agility increase even more as well as his accuracy and reflexes. Aomine’s abilities are difficult to judge because he’s simply just an extraordinary player. Kagami has been the only player to beat Aomine, and that also came in conjunction with help from Kuroko and the other members of Seirin.

Is Aomine the strongest player in the GoM? Instinct says there’s no way anyone else could be stronger. His natural talent has proven enough to beat the abilities of nearly every other opponent. In other words, he doesn’t seem to need a niche or ability that he specializes in (like Midorima’s shooting) because he’s pretty phenomenal at it all. Let’s just say the other five would have to do something unheard of to beat Aomine. Either that, or somehow become stronger than he is through their abilities. Who knows, though?

Murasakibara Atsushi

Murasakibara’s name is gonna get real annoying to have to type over and over, let me tell you. Murasakibara towers over every other GoM member when it comes to height. He also has quick reflexes, which is useful considering the abilities he has. They include: a strong defense, a strong offense--including Thor’s Hammer, Vice Claw, and the Zone.

Due to his long limbs and quick reaction time, Murasakibara can easily knock away an opponent’s shot or dunk the ball himself. Thor’s Hammer (pictured above) is a powerful dunk that only Murasakibara can pull off (unless Kise is using Perfect Copy) by using both of his hands and spinning in the air to achieve momentum and power that can knock three players down easily. Because of his huge hands, he can also use Vice Claw to rebound with one hand, making him a difficult opponent to face on defense as well as offense. Murasakibara has also briefly entered the Zone, which increases his power and speed.

Will Murasakibara win the contest of the strongest GoM member? Possibly. He doesn’t have the agility of Aomine or the outside shooting strength of Midorima, but Murasakibara could potentially overpower all of those things with his strength and build. Aomine has even stated that it’s difficult for him to score against Murasakibara. Personally, I’d say Murasakibara’s overwhelming power could possibly trump the other five’s abilities in the same way that Aomine’s talent could. We’ll have to see.

Akashi Seijūrō

We finally come to the captain of the GoM. Seeing as how there are two Akashi’s, this may be a little bit difficult to explain, but I’m going to give it my best shot (no pun intended). Akashi has his Emperor Eye, the Complete Emperor Eye, Ankle Break, streetball handles, perfect-rhythmed plays, and the Zone. He’s also very physically adept and high intelligent, which makes his game-sense a dangerous tool as he can analyze the environment at a high level.

Akashi’s Emperor Eye, in short, allows him to predict the future of his opponents’ movements. He does this using his analytical prowess, picking up on the slightest hint of motion, which then allows him to accurately predict what his opponent is most likely to do so that he can stop it or get around it. The Ankle Break (pictured above) is an extension of this ability, as he uses his streetball handling ability to dribble and knock an opponent off balance by shifting their center of gravity once they step on their pivot foot. The Complete Emperor Eye, which was uncovered in the match with the Jabberwock, only appeared after Akashi’s other personality vanished and transferred his abilities to the real Akashi so that he could be stronger. Akashi’s ability to preform perfect plays, complete with perfect passes, was then combined with the other Akashi’s Emperor Eye to give the real Akashi the ability to predict the future while also being able to sense the entire court. He can also enter the Zone when he is the other Akashi, which increases his speed, defense, reaction time, and accuracy. When Akashi is himself, he can bring his teammates close to being in the Zone without actually being in it. This has similar effect for all of the players as being in the Zone without being completely in. This helps Akashi execute perfect-rhythmed plays. Basically, Akashi is just really good at being an exceptional point guard.

Okay, was that enough of an explanation to figure out if he’s the strongest? It sure seems like he would be the strongest considering all of those talents. He doesn’t have quite as many seperate moves as Kuroko, but he has more abilities combined together than any other member of the GoM. He can certainly lead better than any of them, but, as an individual, can he really beat out the other five? It’s time to deliberate.

Weaknesses

I’ve already discussed weaknesses for many of the members, but I’m going to summarize here so we can really compare each of their abilities. The overhanging weakness for all GoM members other than Kuroko is that their bodies are still too underdeveloped for the amount of talent they have, which makes them susceptible to injury if they exploit their power too much. Also, it should be noted that, of the members that can enter the Zone, none can enter the Zone Beyond the Zone.

Kuroko’s main weakness is that he’s an average player when it comes to conventional means of playing basketball (blocking, defense, speed, shooting, etc.). He also can’t really stand on his own without a team because then his abilities are next to useless. Also, his abilities don’t last very long, especially if he’s using flashy ones. He also can’t enter the Zone, though the Zone probably isn’t needed for Kuroko’s abilities.

Kise’s ability Perfect Copy, as stated, takes a big toll on his body. Because of this, his best ability can only be used for five minutes at a time. Kise also doesn’t appear to have much game-sense as he mostly just attacks rather than thinking out a play.

Midorima’s only exceptional strength is that he never misses his shots. That leaves him open for easy attacks and even blocks by the opponent. Additionally, he cannot enter the Zone at all, although, it is debated whether or not he would need to given his shooting range and accuracy.

Aomine’s weakness is hard to pick out as he generally leave no holes. If I had to nail one down, it would be that his overwhelming strength prompted him to not practice for a while, which meant he took a while to reacquire his fast reflexes and agility in his second battle with Kagami. Also, Aomine doesn’t use team play at all, and that has proven to be really damaging. Moreover, Kagami has been shown to push the limits of his Zone while Aomine has not.

Murasakibara has issues maintaining his abilities throughout an entire, high-paced game because jumping to block, dunk, whatever takes a toll on his knees since his frame is so big. Additionally, it takes quite a while for Murasakibara to resort to team play, which can be a hindrance if he gets blocked when he could have passed.

Akashi’s weaknesses, honestly, would involve his split personality. For starters, his Emperor Eye has been incomplete for the majority of its use because the other Akashi is the only one that can use it. Also, the perfectly-rhythmed plays can only happen when Akashi is himself. This separation causes Akashi’s plays to inevitably have holes. For example, his Incomplete Emperor Eye can only predict one player’s movements at a time, and since he doesn’t have the court sense that the original Akashi does, it left him open to Kuroko using his Quasi-Emperor Eye to predict Kagami’s movements and assist in his play.

Team Play

Again, I mentioned this for a few people above, but extending on it will also help to decide who is the overall strongest, not only individually, but when a part of a team.

Kuroko, hands down, has the best use of team play. Not only do his abilities depend on it, but his personality fosters it more than the other five. However, is that enough to bridge the gap in ability between him and the others?

Kise started off in middle school with no sense of team play at all, but pretty soon after he joined Kaijo, he started coordinating with his teammates. This has been helpful for him as he doesn’t have to carry the game on his own, which would put more strain on his body. Trusting in his teammates prevents damage and allows Kise to preform in top conditions.

Midorima also had issues initially with team play, and it took him longer to acclimate to it than it did Kise, but he eventually started believing in his teammates and their hard work. The best example of this would, obviously, be his sky direct three-pointer with Takao. Kise remarked that Midorima had to really trust his teammates to make that shot because the accuracy would always be lower than a shot he could take by himself. So, clearly, Midorima has learned to trust Takao’s passes as well as his senpai’s rebounds should he miss. Midorima and Takao’s partnership has also been compared to Kuroko and Kagami’s, which is very high praise for Midorima’s team play.

Aomine, as I mentioned, doesn’t have team play at all. That has been cited as the reason he cannot enter the Zone Beyond the Zone. I don’t know if it’s necessarily because he doesn’t trust his teammates, as he’s left games to them before, but rather that Aomine loves basketball so much that he wants to do everything himself. Nevertheless, this is a serious markdown for Aomine.

Murasakibara doesn’t typically use team play, either, which can be seen by the fact that he doesn’t play offense often. Though when he’s desperate to win, he will use any means necessary. I don’t know if that has to do with trust in his teammates’ abilities or if he uses team play because he knows that his current position isn’t the best for winning. It may just be a default for his own shortcomings, but nonetheless, he does use it occasionally.

Akashi, unlike the other GoM starters, is all about team play... at least, the real Akashi is. If it was a contest between Kuroko and the real Akashi, Akashi could potentially win just because he’s so great at being a captain and point guard. However, because of his other personality, he isn’t that way all the time. He can’t even enter the Zone until he completely gives up on his teammates. So, Akashi is sort of a special case, because his state of mind will directly influence the quality of his team play. It could also be presumed that Akashi may be better at team play when he is the one dictating the plays rather than if he’s just a part of the team, though there’s no proof for that.

Conclusions

So, after this long post, have we figured out who the strongest GoM member is?

I kind of have three different answers for this. I will narrow it down to one, but for now here are my three:

Based on potential: Kise

Kise has the potential to be the strongest GoM member because he can have the abilities of all six members with Perfect Copy. Since he can’t copy things he can’t physically do, this means that Kise is at least able to keep up with the Generation of Miracles’ abilities, if not surpass them. The more Kise’s body develops, the longer he’ll be able to hold Perfect Copy. Not only that, but he can enter the Zone as well. Since he also uses team play, it’s not impossible to assume that he’ll be able to enter the Zone Beyond the Zone at some point. Overall, Kise has the highest potential to become the greatest member of the GoM.

Individually: Aomine

I feel like this was the obvious answer. Aomine is just extremely difficult to beat. Like I said, he doesn’t specialize in any one thing, but can do nearly everything. He doesn’t pay attention to plays, either, which allows him to use unpredictable movements that would be difficult to keep up with. Basically, Aomine’s that good that nobody could beat him in a one-on-one. Not only that, but he’ll keep growing. He’s dangerous for sure.

As a part of a team: Kuroko

Kuroko’s biggest strength is his ability to support his team. Not only with his team play, but with his mental strength and support. He can make everyone feel assured in their plays because he’s there to back them up if something goes off the rails. His abilities themselves depend on team play, which means that he’s been cultivating his basketball with a team in mind. That’s more than can be said for any other member of the GoM.

Before I explain who my personal pick for the strongest member of the Generation of Miracles, I’m going to explain why Midorima, Murasakibara, and Akashi are not contenders.

Why not Midorima?

I think I’ve stated this a couple times already, but Midorima’s abilities really only lend themselves to scoring. That is an important and impressive skill, but he falls short when it comes to the other aspects of his play. Of course, he always has the potential to improve those things as well as his team play, but he just couldn’t be the winner of any of the above categories because overall, he’s not at a high enough level.

Why not Murasakibara?

Murasakibara’s lack of team play is clearly the reason why he was beat out by Kuroko, but why isn’t the strongest individually or potentially? Murasakibara’s ability seems to lie with his reflexes and size, but not really anywhere else. His reaction time combined with his limbs sort of make his talent for basketball a given. Of course, he does have his passion for the game, but it just isn’t enough to beat out Kise and Aomine in terms of ability.

Why not Akashi?

I’ll be honest, it was pretty close between Akashi and Kuroko for team play. What it ultimately came down to was the other Akashi’s Zone being triggered by giving up on his teammates and also his domineering attitude. The fact that he played for so long as a person that wanted his teammates to be subservient makes him lesser in terms of team play, in my opinion. Not to mention, he wasn’t successful in uniting the GoM in middle school as a team that used team play, so the real Akashi even failed at that aspect of being a part of and leading a team. Because of the morale Kuroko brings to his team, I still think that the current Akashi couldn’t beat him when it comes to being a part of and supporting a team.

So, who wins? Of course this is just my opinion, but to me, the clear winner is: Kise Ryōta.

I’ve explained why Midorima, Murasakibara, and Akashi aren’t on the list of contenders, but how did Kise beat out Kuroko and Aomine? It’s pretty simple, actually. His ability beat out Kuroko and his team play beat out Aomine. The fact that he can do the things he can do-- like Perfect Copy and the Zone-- as well as work with a team make him the strongest member of the Generation of Miracles. Would he win every game against Aomine? Probably not. Can he inspire his team as much as Kuroko? No way. But, as an overall player, Kise is the most promising. I mean how can a single player in the GoM beat someone who can imitate all of them? That’s a bit of a wonky justification, but I really do think that Kise is the strongest. Ironic, considering he was the last to join.

So, that’s pretty much all I have for this post. I don’t mean to offend anyone who favors someone other than Kise. Hell, Kuroko is my favorite character, and I still couldn’t put him first. Really, Kise just made the most sense to me, so I apologize if my assessments made you mad or anything.

I don’t know if you noticed, but I mentioned Kagami a few times in this post. In fact, I used him as a sort of ruler for how strong the GoM was. I know I compared him to Aomine a few times. Does that mean I think Kagami is the strongest basketball player in Kuroko no Basket? Do I think he’s stronger than the GoM? Well, that’ll be a nice little companion post to this one that I will be posting in the near future, so please stay tuned.

Can I ask for the GOM (including Kuroko) and Himuro reacting to a girl who has a crush on him, but he doesn't know until her friends tell him?

*cries* I finally have my computer up andrunning again!!! Also requests for Himuro make me very happy because I feellike he doesn’t get enough love.

Kuroko: “Ok, but why does ____ like Kuroko-kun? He’slike a ghost. It’s kinda creepy,” one of the girls in the group cringed.

The boynearly stopped in his tracks when he heard those words. Not the thing about himbeing a ghost, since he kinda expected that. His lack of presence was somethinghe was well aware of, obviously.

He heard thename of a girl that was in his class. Andthat she liked him. They sat on opposite sides of the classroom, but shewas pretty. Kuroko felt his face heat up at learning this new information thatthe girl liked him. A part of him wanted to confront her about it, but a partof him wanted to see if she’d gain the confidence to tell him. He walked toclass with a spring in step and a small smile on his face.

…

Akashi: A girl known for being… in kinderterms, a floozy, came up to Akashi one day and thankfully he already had arejection speech ready. He wasn’t interested in relationships at the moment,especially not with someone who wouldn’t take it seriously.

“Akashi-kun,I’m a good friend of ____, and she would never tell you herself, but she has analmost debilitating crush on you.” She tossed hair over her shoulder andscoffed. “She’s such a pansy sometimes, but I figured if I told you then youmight be able to do something about it.”

With that,she walked away, leaving Akashi somewhat dumbfounded. He blinked cluelessly fora few moments before he sat down at his desk. He knew the girl; in fact she satright next to him. She was nice, didn’t get the best grades in class, but heknew she worked hard.

He put hischin in his hand and grinned a little to himself. Maybe he could use thisinformation to his advantage to get to know her better…

Aomine: When the ace heard that a girl had acrush on him, he wasn’t really fazed. After all, he was a total stud, so of fucking course a ton of girlsliked him. This wasn’t anything new, but something bothered him about it.

Her friendshad told him. He felt like that was breaking unspoken girls’ code or something.

He askedSatsuki, and she’d been dumbfounded.

“What kindsof friends does she have?!” the pink-haired girl demanded. “That is one thingthat girls don’t do!!! I mean, unless they think that they have a better chance,but… Jesus, this really pisses me off! I’m gonna go and become her bestfriend!!!”

With that,she’d stormed off, leaving a baffled Aomine on the roof. Maybe if Satsuki wasgoing to become her best friend, he’d see her around, and he figured thatwouldn’t be too bad.

Kise: When yet another girl traipsed up toKise, he had to plaster a smile onto his face again. He hated when girlsconfessed to him on the roof; it was so cliché. If someone was to confess tohim, he wanted it to be original.

This girl,though, she had a sly smirk on her face. “I have a feeling you get a lot ofconfessions up here,” she said with her hands behind her back.

“Yeah…” Kiseraised an eyebrow. “What are you getting at?”

“You’re notgonna get one from me,” she giggled. “I already have a boyfriend. But I’m hereon behalf of my best friend, ____. She’s too shy to confess to you herself, andI thought I might tell you to give her a push in the right direction.”

Kise wasvery confused at this point. “Uh, so… what does that mean?”

“It meansthat I’m putting the ball in your court, Kise,” she shrugged. “Whether or notyou do anything with this information is completely up to you, but I think evenif you talked to her, even to give her a rejection, she would be over the moonthat you even noticed her.”

“And what ifI told her that you told me?” he wondered.

“She’dprobably kill me, but I wouldn’t regret it.”

With that,the girl walked away and down the stairs. Kise plopped down on the roof andthought. He’d heard that name before; after all they were in the same class. Maybehe should talk to her a little.

Midorima: Takao bounded up to Midorima atpractice one day with a huge smile on his face.

“No,”Midorima said as soon as Takao got to him.

“But youdidn’t even hear what I’m going to say,” Takao pouted.

“I don’tcare, the answer is already no.”

“ButShin-chan! Just hear me out! Please?”

Midorimarolled his eyes and looked at his teammate. “Fine. What?”

“Yay! So,there’s this girl who has a crush on you, and I totally think you should askher out because she’s really, really great and I think you’d like her a lot.And honestly her crush on you is embarrassing and I’ve tried to convince her totell you herself but she’s way too shy. So I decided to take it into my own twohands.”

Takao’s barrageof words stunned Midorima. “Wait…”

It took afew more seconds for it to finally sink in and when it did, the boy blushed andturned away from his friend. “Whatever,” he scoffed, grabbing a basketball.

“So is thata yes?” Takao smirked. “Because I’m gonna text ____-chan right now and tell herthat you’ll take her out on a date this Friday night.”

“NO!”Midorima shouted louder than he’d anticipated. “I’ll… do it myself,” hemuttered.

In allhonesty, he’d noticed ____ a little more since she’d started hanging out withTakao, and developed an interest in her. She seemed to be nice, since shetolerated Takao, and he wouldn’t mind someone like her.

…

Murasakibara: He was honestly surprised when agroup of girls approached him. Because of his height, he almost never got totalk to girls. Not that he really cared either way, if he was honest.

“Murasakibara-kun!Um…” the seeming leader of the group averted her eyes as soon as she glanced upat him.

“We justwanted to tell you about our friend, ____!” another girl added.

“She’s had acrush on you for forever!”

With that,the three of them ran away, leaving the purple giant more confused than heusually was. He shrugged and turned around to go back to the vending machine toget his favorite snack when he saw a girl standing in the middle of thehallway. Her face was pale and she looked terrified. She must’ve overheard.

He cockedhis head to the side. “Are you ok, ____?” he wondered. She was the manager ofhis basketball team, after all, and it wouldn’t do any good for her to be sickor something.

“Uh… Yeah,yeah, I’m fine,” she nodded, letting out a sigh of relief.

“So you likeme, huh, ____?” he drawled.

She trippedover her feet and fell on her face, amazed that he’d put two and two together.Usually he was so unobservant, but she supposed she had her friends to thank.

Himuro: Himuro Tatsuya was by no meansunpopular with girls. He was kind, attentive, and quite a gentleman. He alwaysseemed to be just out of everyone’s reach, though.

He washanging out by himself in the gym one day during lunch, and he heard a group ofgirls approaching through the door. He sighed and resigned himself to smilingfor them and pretending to be the ideal person he knew everyone thought him tobe.

The girlswere giggling endlessly and he groaned internally. They were the flutteringpreppy girls who usually tried to hit it off with him.

“Himuro,we’ve got something to tell you!” one of them grinned.

He raised aneyebrow. He then realized how strange it was for a bunch of girls to come tohim at once.

“What’s up?”he wondered, smiling a bit.

“You know____, right?” another girl asked.

“Yeah,” heshrugged. He’d seen her around, and he was pretty sure she was inMurasakibara’s class. She seemed to like him well enough; at least she wasn’tscared of him like some people.

“Well, she totally has a crush on you, and we thinkyou two would make a good couple!” the last girl piped up.

Himurobarely contained his surprise. Usually girls were willing to kill for a chanceat him, even though he always turned them down. And yet here these girls were,trying to get their friend a chance.

“Huh,” henodded. “Interesting. I’ll look into it, thanks for the tip.”

This girlmust be extraordinary for her to have friends willing to give up their shots atdating Himuro to try to set her up with him.

Kuroko: The nudge at his arm wakes him up prettyinstantaneously. “Nigou? What’s wrong boy?” The dog whining as he pointsto you with his nose. He turns to look at you, finding your body shuddering assoft whimpers reach his ears. He shakes your shoulder, the pained look on yourface scaring him a little. “[Name]!” Your eyes spring open and tears startrolling down your paled cheeks. He props himself up on one elbow and leans overyou. “Hey, it’s alright, whatever you saw isn’t real.” Running his fingersthrough your hair, slowly evens out your breathing. You roll over and hug himtightly, crying into his shirt. “Shh, I’m right here.” He lays down, Nigoujumping up to snuggle with you as well. Licking the tears off your face.

“Th-thank you…” Your voice is barely audible. “S-Sorryfor waking you…”

“Don’t worry about it, do you want to talk about it?” You shakeyour head and snuggle closer to him. “Okay, if you change your mind justtell me.” He kisses the top of your head. Not realizing he was helping, just bybeing there for you.

Kise: When he wakes to find your side of the bed empty he knewsomething was up. He jumps out of bed to find you, listening closely to figureout where you were hiding. He looks everywhere wondering if you had left theapartment until a soft sniffle is heard from under the bed. “[Name]-chi?”He lays down flat on his stomach, your face showing obvious signs offear. “Hey, come on, no need to hide from me.” He gives you a tendersmile, your eyes welling up with tears again. He slowly takes your hand in his,being careful since you were probably still jumpy. You clench it tightly, bringit to your face as you break down again. This was becoming way too common forthe two of you. You would have a nightmare, hide in some part of the house, andtry to deal with it alone. He started waking up every night around the sametime you would, wanting to help. Unfortunately, old habits die hard, he had totrack you down every night to do so. “Come out from under there,” he gentlytugs on your hand, prompting you to crawl out. He leads you into his lap wherehe proceeds to rock you until you calm down. The motion sending you back tosleep. He didn’t care how much sleep he lost by doing this. You meant the worldto him, even if you don’t realize it yourself yet.

Kagami: “[Name], calm down!” You were thrashing in your sleep,the moment he grabs your arm you start screaming. It hurt that you reacted insuch a way to him trying to wake you up. “[Name], please…” Your screamsdie down, mostly because you were out of breath. Panting heavily as you fullywake up.

“T-Taiga?” You look up at him, your eyes full of tears andconfusion. Seeing the hurt in his eyes, tells you all you needed toknow. “I-I’m sorry, I didn’t- Oh God not again.” You break down in tears,the look on his face resembling past lovers who had to deal with your nightterrors. They had grown less frequent so the thought to warn him hadn’t crossedyour mind. He didn’t fully understand what just happened, but it seemed to himthat your reaction was not meant for him. The amount of regret in your voice toldhim that much. He gets out of bed, going into the bathroom he dampens awashcloth and comes back. Gently pressing the cool cloth to your arm, your warmskin cooling off. The feeling of the cloth gradually calming you down. He goesfrom your arm, to your neck, to your face.

“You up for talking about it or should we wait until morning?”You are surprised to hear him ask. “I want to be prepared if this happensagain.” You feel your eyes sting with more tears. He is the first person you’vebeen with who actually tried to understand. “Come here,” He wraps thecloth around the back of your neck. Hugging you to his chest, you feel all yourworries melting away. “We will get through this.”

Akashi: The thud wakes him instantly, looking around the dark room tofigure out what it was. He is surprised to find the source is you. Getting outof bed, he finds you trembling and still asleep. He kneels down, pushing yourhair from your face. Now that he thought about it, you had warned him aboutyour night terrors. You had down played them so much, he figured you didn’thave them anymore. He sits you up and cradles your head, speaking directly intoyour ear. “[Name], follow my voice. What you are seeing isn’t real.” Hecontinues speaking until you wake up a minute later. Lurching forward as yousnap out of your nightmare. He holds onto you, keeping your head close to hischest. “You’re safe now, just focus on my heartbeat.” You do asinstructed, the steady rhythm of his heart fully breaking you from yourfrightened stupor. “Does this happen often?” You shift in his grasp.

“Y-yes…about once every night…” His grip on youtightens.

“Why didn’t you tell me? This is a serious problem.” Yousniffle, thinking he was mad at you.

“I-I figured you d-didn’t want me waking you every night…mostpeople t-tell me it’s-” He cuts you off by lifting your face to look him in theeye.

“I don’t care what others have said, I will stay up all night ifthat’s what it takes to help you.”

Aomine: Hearing you moan in pain in your sleep was disturbing. Evenafter all the nights spent together in the same bed. He still felt chills godown his spine at the sound. Rubbing an eye as he props himself up on hiselbow. He reaches over and pulls your face towards his. Pressing his lipsroughly against yours, he holds you there until your eyes spring open. Mostpeople would say he was terrible for doing this, but it was the best way towake you from your constant nightmares. He breaks the lip lock to let youbreath and catch up to reality. “Same as usual?” You nod, eyes tearing upa little. “Sorry baby,” he kisses you again, much more gentle thistime.

“Thanks for waking me,” You say one thing, but the look in youreyes said another. “What’s the matter?” You look off to the side,remembering your past relationships ending about this time. All of them sayingthe same thing, ‘I can’t do it anymore…waking up every night, I justcan’t do it anymore.’ The thought echos in your ears and pushes you toask. “Are you going to leave me too?” His brows furrow and you instantlyregret asking. “Sorry! Forget I said anything.”

“I’m not leaving you because of something you can’t control.Your exes are idiots for giving you up.” You look up at him to find he is beingcompletely serious. “Though I guess, if they hadn’t I wouldn’t have youall to myself.” He dips his head down, nipping a ticklish spot on your neckmaking you laugh. “Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere.”

Midorima: He stares at his phone, waiting for a text or call orsomething from you. You had gone on a buisness trip and that meant he couldn’tbe there to help you through your night terrors. So he did the next best thing.Waking up around midnight to ensure he is fully awake when you call. He waitspatiently for you to contact him. Your ringtone blaring out after about thirtyminutes of waiting. He answers it after the first ring. “[Name]?” He can tellyou just woke up from a brutal one. “[Name] you are hyperventilating, takedeep breaths. In and out. In -he inhales with you- and out.” He continues walkingyou through your typical calm down process. The nightmares always scramblingyour common sense for about five minutes. Once you are fully calmed, you speakquietly into the device.

“I miss you…” He smiles softly, even though you can’t seehim.

“I know, I miss you too.”

“I don’t know if I can go back to sleep with out you.” Youadmit, having gotten so used to having him there.

“Do you need me to stay up with you?”

“No, just…talk to me, please?”

“Of course,” doing just that, he talks until the only thing hehears is your steady breathing. Knowing in his mind you would be justfine.

Murasakibara: You wake up with a gasp, looking aroundfrantically. A snore from the snoozing titan next to you reminds you of whereyou are. You shake his shoulder, desperate to make sure you weren’t in anothernightmare. He snorts and opens his eyes. “Hmm? [name]-chin? What’s wrong?”You sigh in relief, thinking you were out of the woods. Until you look down andsee nothing but blood. You scream in horror shutting your eyes tightly andcovering your ears. You don’t even register your body is moving.

“[Name]-chin,” you hear afaint voice, your body suddenly feeling hot and constricted. You had gottentangled in the blankets while Murasakibara was up using the bathroom. “[Name]-chin, stop moving.” It takes him a while to unwrap you. Your eyes remaining shut until you realize you are airborne. Peeking out of one eye, you find yourself in a familiar set of arms. The owner of the appendages carrying you into the kitchen. Setting you on the counter, he walks over to the freezer pulling an ice cream bar out. He puts the cold treat in your hand. You are hesitant, looking up at him and back down at the treat.

“Am I…awake?” You feel silly asking, but you needed to be sure. He presses the cold package into your hand, “does that feel real?” You nod, still feeling apprehensive. He takes the snack and opens it for you, pressing the bar to your lips. You take a bite, the cold stinging your mouth a moment before it melts. “Eat up, you were too warm when I pulled you out of bed.” You slowly relax as you eat the tasty treat. Relieved to be free from that dark maze of dreams. Murasakibara staring at you as you eat. Wondering what you were dreaming about to make you scream out his name in your sleep.

Turning 47: pt. V

“Westward Bound”

15-16 May 2018

Begrudgingly, I trod the walkway from The Honky Chateau, home & studio of my inadvertent mentor and dear friend, artist Buddy Jackson. I appreciate this man so much, and that he allows room for me to crash at his place in Nashville when I’m there. Though I don’t want to leave, my car is pointed toward the freeway. Again, what would have taken 10 minutes in 1998 takes 40, bumper-to-bumper at a snail’s pace.

Once traffic loosened up, I headed back up to stay at Chez Chevallier in New Harmony one more night. My plan was to get an early start the next morning and catch lunch in St. Louis with Cayce Lanham Zavaglia, an artist whose portrait work with thread is incomparable (unless we’re speaking of Chuck Close, then there’s a comparison). I hadn’t seen Cayce since undergrad 25 years ago, though, like many, we are FB and Instagram close. St. Louis is a little over a 2 hr drive from New Harmony, after which my plan is to drive as far west as I am able to get in range of Garden City in the southwestern corner of Kansas.

I arrive at the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis, our planned rendezvous point (because, of course, that what all artists do, we gom about in museums 😉). In true artist fashion I had to calculate my budget when ordering a sandwich at the museum café while I waited for her to arrive. “Just tap water, thanks”, I muttered to the artisanal sandwich chef, who pointed toward the tray of complimentary water carafes.

Cayce arrived a bit sheepishly. You know how it is; you knew someone from back in the day and you are regularly tic-tacking back & forth on social media in the intervening years, but when the time arrives for a face-to-face, parts of you are negotiating an escape. Fortunately, the momentum was forward and we lock eyes, tractor beam on.

It was easy as pie (and a lot less expensive than in the café). We rummaged over the last 25 years, her work showing in New York, and the art market. She was wondering how my work was coming since “my” gallery in NYC closed. Now Cayce, like many others, by no fault of their own, has been under the impression that I am Kurt Lightner. Now, I am Kurt Lightner, but there is ANOTHER Kurt Lightner who is an artist, originally from Ohio, now out of New York (since 2001). His work is solid, painting on mylar, sculpture, and installation. And his work is similar enough to the work I was making as an undergrad that the confusion was inevitable.

I’m going to tangent a bit further, because I have never really spoken or written about this matter. I first became aware of the other Kurt Lightner when I was living in Nashville. My friend Ted Graffam came to town after passing the New York Bar Exam after graduating law school in Buffalo and stayed at my place. Ted was looking at getting into entertainment law (and, boy, did he ever). He tells me this story about stopping in Ohio on his way down to see another college friend. They see a flyer in a café for a rave party happening that night “with paintings by Kurt Lightner”. Whoa!! So they show up to the event and tell the people at the door that they are friends of mine. “Oh, he’s right over there”, a door person gestures. It wasn’t me. It was the other Kurt Lightner, and Ted tells me like he’s about to burst for having to wait until he arrived at my place to let it out.

Weird. Hmmm. What?! I imagine most people are fairly protective of their name. Even in Sweden, where there are more Johan Johanssons than you could count. But to have another person be your namesake, working in the exact same field was, uh, jarring. So I dialed up my Netscape Navigator browser to see if I could find more information about this Kurt Lightner. And I did, and there was a phone number...

I can’t recall how much time passed, but one day I picked up the phone and dialed Ohio...”Is this Kurt Lightner?”, I asked. “This is.”, said the voice on the other end. “This is Kurt Lightner.”, I replied. Turns out he had heard of me too. We talked for about 20 minutes, art stuff mostly; materials, subject matter, our likes/dislikes. Turns out he is my age, and even has the SAME middle initial in his name: M. His is for Monte, mine is Matthew. Dizzying and somewhat frustrating. So I tell him about this idea I had hatched to try to get ahead of the confusion. “ I have this idea for a short documentary called ‘Growing Up Kurt Lightner’. Basically, it would follow both of us, our work and background, and serve to alleviate the tension of one of us breaking out before the other”. He thought it was a decent idea, or at least I got that impression, but as many ideas do, it landed on the shelf for a later date.

Cut to two years later; I’m living in Brooklyn, kinda courting this beautiful Swede. We are walking down Bedford Ave. and we see our friend Dale Hannon coming toward us. He’s waving. We’re waving back. Our paths meet. “Kurt Lightner!!”, he exclaims, “Meet Kurt Lightner!!”. 👀 I stutter, ”Are you...?” . “Yes”. 🧠💥

We had the grill going that night on N. 1st Street, and I and Kurt Lightner sat there kind of embaffled. He was starting his Masters at SVA that autumn. I have a Polaroid of us buried somewhere, which I will attach when I can.

One year later, 2002, I am in Sweden with the woman I walked with, Madeleine Müller, and we are about to welcome our first child. Meanwhile, the other Kurt Lightner is busy kicking down doors and making our name for himself. I have the pleasure of reading in the New York Times online, in between changing diapers, about his permanent piece at PS 1 and the European collectors snatching up his work at a collector only event featuring young, new artists on the scene. We still receive email intended for the other Kurt M. Lightner. It is still embaffling (not a word, but you get it. Deeply baffling). So this is what I tell Cayce (pronounced like KC, btw). And now I’m sheepish. She too is embaffled. I mention that I’ve never been that comfortable with the gallery scene, and then I lay down the BIG story, about the DNA test, the message from Arla, the “what to do” aspect. She tells me that I really should try to meet her. I say, yeah, I’d like that, but there are a couple hurdles to leap. First, I need to tell my parents, who I will be seeing the next day. They are unaware that I’ve done the Ancestry thing or that I’ve gotten results back OR that I’ve been contacted by my birth mother. What will they say? How will they react? It is very important for me that they would be onboard before anything like that were to happen.

Cayce says go for it.

The time grew later than I had planned, but that is how it goes when you get to see an old friend and the things that clicked then, still click now. I needed to figure out my next move on the westward push. Cayce offers a sofa in her and Greg’s house (a gorgeous Georgian), but I’m feeling the tug. I need to get to Garden City by tomorrow for my cousin Matt’s wedding the next day.

So I thank her and continue to head west across Missouri, towards Kansas City. Hmmm....my friend Bruce lives there.

“Hey, Bruce! Are you in KC?....Would you have room for a traveler tonight?”
