i like to think about what happened to Reedshine post Mapple incident. in my mind, she was always very interested in Apple, even if he often felt distant. so she threw herself into the relationship trying to make it work.

after Maple shows up, and there's the big reveal, Reedshine doesn't know what to do, she's devoted so much of herself to Appledusk. she rejects Mapleshade and pretends like she never existed. Appledusk, wanting to prove his clan loyalty, starts being more attentive to her, and in her mind it proves she made the right decision

after Appledusk is killed, it only further solidifies her aggrandized view of him. she bonds with Perchpaw afterwards, since they were already close via apple, and the shared trauma of his death

Perchpaw is super excited to act as an older brother to her kits, but it's around this time Reedshine starts to process how messed up the whole situation was. she devoted so much of herself to a guy who betrayed her. she had kits with him, named one after him, and in the end, even if he saved her, what does she truly think of him? she even starts to sympathize with maple a little bit, and he becomes much less of a hero to her. Perchpaw on the other hand, was not directly affected by the cheating, and only idolizes him more as time goes on.

this gradual change in views causes the two of them to drift further and further apart. neither of them knowing how to address it, and even if they see eachother like family, their relationship will never really be the same

idk!! i just get tired of fan stuff that woobifies Appledusk and acts like he was the perfect mate! i want Reedshine to get a chance to understand he was shitty to her, even if he saved her. she wouldn't be in that situation to begin with if it wasn't for his actions.

there' a lot of interesting potential with mv characters, but tbh, i think people go with the most boring, and often misogynistic routes with them hjkjhjk

ya gotta tell me more about this mapleshade/star au cause i am intrigued ‼️‼️

YIPPEEe!!! OKAY so im not gonna spoil everything (i lied i did) but im hoping to basically branch this out into an au that changes everything i dislike in the series.

so mapleshade still gets pregnant by appledusk and lies to thunderclan. however over the time of her pregnancy, she develops feelings for frecklewish. and near the end of her pregnancy she feels guilt over lying. the two of them grow extremely close and so before she gives birth, her and frecklewish go on a walk together and she tells her the truth. frecklewish is shocked and obviously hurt, and she turns to leave however maple grasps at her tail trying to beg her to stay. Freckle, startled and upset, unintentionally slashes maples face (giving her the first scar). freckle apologizes, obviously upset that she injured maple. she states that she will keep the secret but she needs time away from mapleshade. after that, the last bit of her pregnancy, mapleshade is more or less alone. she gives birth to her 3 kits and adores them. things go on as normal for the most part.

when ravenwing approaches maple, he confronts her about the lie and tells her he cant lie to their clan like she has. when he turns to sprint away, again she goes after them and in anger ravenwing slashes her side. he yells at her and rushes back to camp. maple and her kits are obviously startled so she takes her time heading back to camp.

when there, the clan is already gathered around the high rock. oakstar is at the top and ravenwing is standing below him with frecklewish by his side. maple tells her kits to rest near the camp entrance while she heads into the center to be addressed by oakstar. the whole spiel about her lying is brought up and right before oakstar banishes her and her kits frecklewish runs out and claims that the kits are also hers. oakstar obv calls her out saying "they cant be yours" kinda thing however she argues back. despite his anger, oakstar leaves the topic alone and dismisses the clan since he can't imagine hurting his daughter after everything.

after all this, freckle and maple get back together and raise the kits. ravenwing hates maple and hates that she got away with everything however they make amends when frecklewish gets bitten by a snake on a patrol and maple and raven work together to save her life.

at a gathering riverclan is confronted about their clanmate lying to them. and he basically gets shunned (but is allowed to stay in riverclan). after this he becomes really controlling over reedshine and perchpaw and is a major asshole. he also develops an obsession with the idea of getting revenge on mapleshade in a future battle for what "she did". eventually deciding to attack her outside of a battle. he tries to kill her however frecklewish and oakstar manage to save her and appledusk gives her the scar on her chest before he's killed.

perchpaw (appledusks apprentice) ends up in a relationship later down the line with maples son larchkit

patchpaw ends up in a relationship with nettlepaw

oakstar gives mapleshade the position of deputy rather than doestar. her scar on her chest is her leader marking

petalpaw either leaves the clan to be a kitty pet or falls in love with a kitty pet (havent decided) and has firestar and his sister! so firestar is a descendent of mapleshade

each scar on maple is given to her by someone she would have killed in canon. frecklewish's on the face (where freckles are), ravenwing's on the side (where a wing would be), and then appledusk just on her chest to try and kill her

Not a dig at anyone bc different people find different story routes interesting but any Mapleshade au where she isn’t at least a little bit evil still is automatically boring to me, esp since I feel like there’s a pretty obvious and interesting path to take with the secret-never-revealed au specifically. Like Frecklewish and Oakstar were canonically planning to raise those kittens to get revenge on Appledusk, and he still would have been cheating on Mapleshade and gotten Reedshine pregnant… once Mapleshade found out, I can see her getting fully onboard with the plan to weaponize her kits against him with no further intention of revealing him as their father.

So.

Patchkit, Petalkit and Larchkit are raised on somewhat embellished tales of their father Birchface’s heroism, and how he and his brave apprentice were sadistically drowned by a dishonorable Riverclan warrior. Their mother puts great emphasis on the pain this Riverclan warrior caused her, leaving her all alone with three fatherless kits to raise by herself, though their aunt Frecklewish always corrects her on this front, which seems to annoy Mapleshade greatly. The three kits are very close to their mother and feel very protective of her because of all she’s been through, especially Patchkit, who is the most susceptible to her manipulations.

Patchpaw is apprenticed to Oakstar himself, Petalpaw to Frecklewish, and Larchpaw to Bloomheart like his mother before him. During a confrontation with a Riverclan patrol, Patchpaw notices Appledusk staring at him and wonders if he knows Patchpaw is the kit of the cat he murdered. He also exchanges verbal barbs with Wavepaw (Applefrost in canon) Appledusk’s son by Reedshine. Oakstar compliments him on his ferocity afterward and compares him to Birchface . Later, Patchpaw goes patrolling with his mother, and they catch Wavepaw hunting alone at Snakerocks. Mapleshade encourages him to attack Wavepaw and instructs him on which battle moves to use. Wavepaw drowns while trying to cross the river due to his injuries and Patchpaw is horrified, but Mapleshade assures him it wasn’t his fault and that Wavepaw shouldn’t have crossed into Thunderclan territory. Meanwhile, Petalpaw and Mapleshade start growing apart due to her mother treating her differently because she is the kit that looks most like Appledusk, and she grows closer to her aunt and mentor Frecklewish. She also becomes friends with Perchpaw at the gathering, and the two start meeting up in secret after Petalpaw mentions offhandedly that she’d always wanted to learn how to swim. Perchpaw remarks that she’s surprisingly good at it. Frecklewish catches them one day and publicly humiliates Petalpaw by having her confess to meeting with a Riverclan apprentice in front of the entire clan, and she is ostracized by everyone but her brother Larchpaw, who, having not been mentored by any of their overbearing relatives, has slowly begun to recognize just how much the adults around them are using him and his siblings. Larchpaw becomes friends with a rambunctious crew of teenaged kittypets, and reflects to himself that they seem more free than he feels living in the wild. He starts to question clan life and Starclan altogether, and starts up a flirtation with a kittypet tom named Mister Mistoffelees.

The three kits become warriors and are given the names Patchface, Petalwish and Larchshade respectively, which Petalwish and Larchshade both resent. Petalwish begins meeting with Perchpaw again, now Perchleap, and soon finds herself expecting kits. Around this time, Thunderclan launches a massive attack on Riverclan, and the three find and corner Appledusk, who reveals he is their father to save his own life. Patchface cannot reconcile the thought that he had been responsible for the death of his own half brother and that his mother had lied to him. He yowls that Appledusk is a liar and slashes his throat, much to the stunned horror of his siblings. Perchleap attacks him in a rage but ultimately can’t bring himself to do anything to his mate’s brother; Frecklewish witnesses this and confronts Petalwish about the father of her kits, and Petalwish tells her the truth. Frecklewish is disgusted, and threatens to reveal her secret to the clan. Petalwish flees to Riverclan to be with Perchleap, and Patchface and Mapleshade both denounce her as a traitor, though Frecklewish seems to blame herself for Petalwish’s leaving. Larchshade, furious with his family’s hypocrisy, threatens Patchface and Mapleshade with the truth about his own parentage. Only when his mother insinuates to him that Larchshade needs to be “dealt with” does Patchface realize the true extent of her cruelty and selfishness. Mapleshade leads another attack on Riverclan, where she attempts to kill her expectant daughter, mistakenly calling her by Appledusk’s name as she raises her paw for the killing blow. Patchface jumps in front of his sister and dies in her place, with Frecklewish subduing Mapleshade and scratching her eyes. Mapleshade stumbles away towards the river and drowns. Petalwish reconciles with her aunt but ultimately decides to stay in Riverclan, though Frecklewish does insist to her that she name one of the kits Birchkit as they say their goodbyes. She becomes close with her two remaining siblings by Appledusk, and names her three kits after exactly no one. Larchshade says fuck this shit and goes to twolegplace to live with his kittypet boyfriend.
