Hi, just taking a second to snuggle my plants ☺️🪴 This is my stephania nova and she’s decided to show off this summer and grow these amazing large leaves! I keep her in bright light with some direct light in the afternoon. She seems to like the heat and the occasional humidity I provide. I water her weekly during her active growing season and when the leaves die off and if the bulb goes dormant. REPOTTING: Why is it important to repot orchids once a year? Because their potting mediums decompose faster than peat moss or coco coir. Once that happens, the roots will not have enough oxygen and will start suffocating.⠀ ⠀ Remove all of the old medium, trim all dead roots and pot into fresh bark or sphagnum moss. If you use moss, I suggest New Zealand long fibered sphagnum moss.⠀ ⠀ WATERING: Better to wait until the medium has fully dried out. You'll be able to tell that your orchid really needs water because the roots and leaves will become wrinkly. Don't wait until that happens though. Maybe do it once or twice to gauge how long it takes for that to happen in your home environment. But better go on the side of underwatering as most people kill orchids by overwatering them.⠀ ⠀ LIGHT: Keep them in a bright window, with mostly indirect light. Some direct sun is fine, but be careful not to burn them.
