So it's been a VERY busy time for dolls, part of me is trying to get things done before the weather turns too humid, but I'm also trying to take my time, and boy howdy has it been worth it.

Ever since Dark Revival came out, I KNEW I was gonna do some dolls from it. So today we have an early look at Joey and Audrey. And this is all on the first layer! Granted, there's a lot of sealant on them since both have faces recolored with pearlex powder (I can't help it, they gotta SHIMMER!), so I'm not surprised I could go this far, but ooooh I'm excited to keep going. Gonna have to bust out the gouache to delicately get all of Audrey's inky details. I must say, I'm impressed with Joey's hands and how old he looks, I've never achieved quite that level of detail before, it's nice.

Day one down, and so is my first layer of oils! He's very streaky, but that's normal at this point. He's definitely a challenge to hold, but I'm so excited to start seeing color on him.

His lighter areas are terra rosa, Indian yellow, burnt umber, white, and Aztec gold PearlEx pigment. His darker areas are terra rosa, burnt umber, and super copper PearlEx. His skin is white, bone black, and burnt umber.

Solitude. Probably my favorite sketchbook piece from 2022, done with pen and watercolor.

An unexpected little side hobby from last & this year was mixing up interesting new combinations of paint from my existing watercolors and Pearlex pigments. I’ve never done much with iridescent pigments because they just don’t scan the same and I’ve always been focused on offering reproductions of my paintings. Man though, turns out using sparkly paints gives me such joy!
