it’s so sad how much better ts2 is than ts4.

I have pretty much 10 pieces of custom content in my sims 2 game at the moment and have enjoyed it so much more already than my 20gb modded sims 4 game.

I don’t think I’ll be buying ts5 (😉) when it comes out because it seems like their games just keep getting worse. There’s no heart in them anymore.

The last little informative essay I did seemed to get a good response, and there's another sort of neat little factoid I can share about their naming conventions. But this time it's about their name!

Disclaimer: I do not speak Japanese with any level of proficiency at all. I'm just very patient and willing to use a kanji dictionary, and I have decent pattern recognition. As such, take this with a grain of salt and keep in mind there's almost definitely things I'm missing because they also riff off their team name a bit.

So, GokuLuck (Gokurakku transliterated, 獄Luck when spelled with kanji, and yes, this will be relevant in a few sentences) is a multi-front pun. The most obvious is, when said out loud, it sounds like gokuraku, which literally means paradise. You can hear Shion riff off this in Trigger ("Let me guide you to paradise"/"Gokuraku ni goannai") actually!

What does the kanji actually mean? Prison. I probably don't need to explain why that's relevant. However! It's also a component of 地獄/jigoku, meaning hell. I think it's kind of nifty they managed to put in two pretty drastically different concepts in the same name. This is also part of why Yuto calls himself "hell's soldier" in Stronger...and why the subtitles keep translating it as Hell Luck (so does autotranslate, in fact.)

Final neat detail: I'm reasonably sure part of the reason GokuLuck has a dog theme is because 獄 has 犬 (dog) as its radical. So yeah! There was a lot of thought put into their concepts, it's one of the reasons I love them so much.

*blows into a paperbag* i just think how yuto’s alt self probably manifested as a way to cope with his unfavourable surroundings and from feeling intensely incompetence about himself and being constantly beaten down (verbally). like even his trauma hashtags is ‘branded as useless’ 🥲

in the interview when asked to describe himself, yuto said gutless and that he’s self aware. he acknowledges his shortcomings and the lack of courage so i dont think its far fetched to say the alt self stemmed from his strong feelings of wanting makeup for his shortcomings. yuto knows how unreliable he truly is and constantly does damage control, trying to mitigate any possible triggers.

yuto has the heart and willingness to help people, his feelings and intentions have always been sincere, however he lacks the (mental) strength to do so, i believe. ryoga, haida and mikoshiba walk on eggshells around and are frustrated rightfully so.
