Impel Down, Level 6: Mugen Jigoku, 27th day of Doflamingo’s imprisonment

A few voices rippled in eternal hell, distant and fading with each next syllable, the guards were once again complaining about their mundane shifts. On few occasions he’d try to spark up a conversation, but none wanted to indulge him. They would tell him to shut up, as if anyone was able to order HIM what to do, and be on their merry way, towards the desk where they played cards and took swings of booze when Magellan wasn’t looking.

His chains would clank whenever he tried to move his limbs, the sore position he was put in more than irritating. If they were so intent on binding him in such a way, they should’ve been more creative. He would cackle every time he thought about negative bedroom comments he could provide.

However, while he tried to kill his boredom in any way possible, it was a fact Doflamingo was left to his own thoughts most of the time. Sometimes he hadn’t thought about anything, he would simply focus on his surroundings and listen, observe, gather information. Sometimes, his own mind wouldn’t let him rest. He would think of his family, of Vergo and Monet he had lost, those left and imprisoned like him just a level above, and the absurdity of the situation how they ended there. He would analyse the situation, twists and turns that were taken, and what exactly had led to present moment. Sometimes all of it led to laughter, sometimes to amused silence, but never to anything else.

His favourite moment was when he’d get to read newspaper. He had his eye on few people and was more than satisfied when he’d find out what they were doing. Those were moments when his boredom was temporarily killed, just as it was killed when he realised those beneath him hired an assassin to murder him. Power was a fickle thing, and he was absolutely certain they’d experience it on their flesh too.

His current musing, of poetry and books he wanted to read to spend time, was interrupted by a new voice. Close, unfamiliar, new, exciting. He raised his head to get a glimpse of the man, a low whistle piercing air soon after. The guy was hot, he’d give him that.

They’re older now - wiser, and full of rage for the world - so their words hold more power. And even a whisper can bring about a storm in the right language. Their name is Imu, and they are the very ocean itself.

Imu greets Sinclair with a bow - while they are of the belief that respect must be earned, they certainly did not care to have their memories altered. And the North would be a powerful ally on their side. That’s the important thing, now. Friendship. Friendship and alliances that could topple kingdoms far greater than they deserve to be.

Their gaze flickers up, and the corners of their lips curl upwards. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Your Majesty.”

It’s not ideal, for the one who would become the future King of all to refer to another as their superior or equal, but war is looming on the horizons, and if they want to win they needed all the damn support they could get.

And it isn’t just formalities - Imu is genuinely interested in the man who ruled over much of the North.

“I appreciate that you’ve taken the time to see me.”

“Food? What?” He pauses, the walnut under his teeth cracking loudly, as he eventually chews it impatiently. “I don’t think I want to share anything with you, especially not my food.”

He pauses for a moment, sending another of his deadly stare while she doesn’t seem to move. “If you want to keep talking and bleeding my ears while I want to eat my lunch alone, please, have a conversation with that damn old snake who sleeps in the backyard and keeps asking for salty water. Mister ear-lobes is fucking pissed right now!”

One’s aura spoke of one’s strength. It was able to ripple the serenity of world just as it was able to calm it once again. Whether on purpose or not, how much one let theirs out was depending on the person alone. Either with their own control or even unaware of it seeping into the earth.

The King of Dressrosa was more than good at picking it up, and the moment he felt an unfamiliar presence in his domain he advised his Family to leave the matters to him. The guest seemed to come with peaceful intentions, for now.

Doflamingo found it funny, he knew well how to take care of himself, and by the man’s relaxed posture he could easily deduce the other didn’t give a flying fuck.

He liked him already.
