everyone on Reddit being asked what their least favourite She-ra episode is and at least two people commented on the tonal dissonance of Signals being 50% trash and 50% the best episode in the season, it’s great

Owl house headcanon to play with: Eda and Lilith have some vampire in their gene pool. The paleness, Eda’s garlic allergy, her affinity to apple blood.
OOOH okay that's fun!
We never get to learn what boiling isles vampires are like beyond the fact that they exist and inspired human realm vampire stories. We technically never even meet any vampires in the show (though i feel like i remember ppl referring to Katya of the BATTs as a vampire back when we only knew her as fanfiction girl??? i literally checked the ep1 credits to see if her character was named but grey griffith was just listed under additional voices w/ the other prisoners VAs)
but tbh the clawthorne's strike me as the type of family to have a crazy-ass family history with a million weird stories and connections from weird distant uncles and mysterious great-grandparents. like there's already hints of it with Gwen learning indirectly learning about the wittebane brothers from her great grandmother (who definitely wasn't evelyn bc there'd be like. 8-ish generations between the two??) and i've always been transfixed by her referring to the clawthorne's as a clan in elsewhere and elsewhen, bc like. clans are more than families, they're extended families that also have a network of trusted allied who aren't necessarily related to them! like i think it's entirely possible that Dell could've been from the clawthorne clan (hence the palismen carving) but not the clawthorne family, and marrying into it via his wife. or vice versa!
all this to say, i could 100% see that. tbh i feel like both clawthorne sisters would have fun with the connection. like lilith would take it as an opportunity to study obscure vampire history and stuff. meanwhile eda would threaten to use willow and gus like juiceboxes if they keep entering uninvited and eating cheese out of her fridge like a bunch of freeloading hooligans. gotta get her kicks in somehow

there she goes
Inner Willow really said YEET
So, this must be Amity’s room... or at least, what it looked like when she was younger. There’s an Emperor’s Coven banner on the wall, some assorted pictures, books, and some balloons - again, I’m guessing this incident took place during her birthday.
Tumblr media
Hey, those are the exact words I used! I guess I was right on the money with that one.
Inner Willow’s anger should be directed towards Amity, and it is to some extent, but mostly she’s just directing it inward at herself. It’s pretty self-destructive - Willow just keeps hurting herself more and more, and it’s all because Amity hurt her first.
But I do wonder: did this really “start” when Amity burned the memory, or when the memory was first formed..?
So, we’re about to find out the incident at the root of all this, and learn what Amity did to end her friendship with Willow. However, given that it is getting a bit late, I will employ an immense amount of self-restraint and call it here for the night! I’ll resume tomorrow as soon as I possibly can because oh my god it’s finally happening.
For now, goodnight!

It's been like what? Three years since I finished the revue starlight anime and fully fell in love with the story and characters. And ever since I haven't been able to look at giraffes the same way. lmao (help)

why i think uzi doorman is bisexual 🩷💜💙
Tumblr media
i made a thread about this on twitter (ivzura) so i will post it on tumblr too
-
before i start, i want to let everyone know that i am bi and as a bisexual, i notice uzi seems bi coded to me. not sure if any other bisexuals notice or think the same, but these are my thoughts and my perspective
-
• bi lighting
bisexual lighting are used where bisexual characters are portrayed under the colors of pink, purple and blue to show they’re bisexual
Tumblr media
uzi is in a lot of bi lighting, not only once but many times. i take bi lighting very seriously bc it’s not that the lights are bisexuals themselves but it is to show and portray bi characters (there’s more than these but i can’t add more images)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in the knife fight scene from nuzi, the lights are all colorful and flashy, but the moment they had their personal talk, it stopped to a specific color (pink, purple, and blue). when n throwed uzi, the colors went back to being colorful and flashy
in ep 6, when the sentinels flashed at nuzi, you can see there is pink, purple and blue (i can only add one video so when you go rewatch the scene, you will get what i mean). the colors from the sentinals eyes and flash is like blue/white, and notice that there isn’t any pink and purple when looking around. there’s a ss of a sentinals flashing the light towards the audience
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
which should’ve been the same when flashing towards nuzi but it didn’t, pink, purple and blue appeared. i could also say n is also under those bi lighting bc bi lighting appeared when they’re together, so he seems bi coded to me as well.
Tumblr media
• attraction
now, i know ppl will say “but we don’t see uzi blushing to any women characters” not every bi characters have too. bi characters can be confirmed bi and that’s it, it’s still a rep. bi ppl don’t have to date/blush ppl of every single gender to be bi and this happens to canonical bi characters too (luz, marceline, sasha) about how it’s not enough for ppl. it’s always bi characters having to “prove” or not “bi enough” for ppl to accept them as bisexual. mind you, hunter from the owl house is confirmed bi and we don’t see him blushing or dating any guys, however, have a bi patch on his jacket and bi colors from dana’s art. sasha from amphibia only have a bi sticker and is confirmed bi. this can happen the same with uzi (and n) by the lighting and uzi seems to have men/masculine preference. “i don’t feel any sapphic vibes from her” is being bi not sapphic to you? even if bisexuals date the opposite gender, it does not take away being wlw/nblw. bisexuals are still sapphic no matter who we date bc sexuality is about attraction and not dating history. i really need ppl to get rid of that biphobic mindset that bisexual ppl (including characters in media) needs to “prove” themselves that they are bi. most of you don’t even understand bisexuality at all.
-
we only have 6 episodes and s1 is still not over so don’t expect this to be long. anyway, uzi is bi with men/masculine preference and n is also bi, so nuzi is bi4bi (we need more bi4bi in media). i don’t want ppl to use uzi as a robot as an excuse to be biphobic. “uzi is binary code, her love interest in male, etc.” this is a series called murder drones, all drones have personality, have thoughts, feelings, families, etc. uzi grew WINGS and TAIL, so why can’t she be bi? and n is her love interest but it doesn’t mean she can’t be bisexual. again, bisexuals don’t have to prove to date the same gender to be bi. what’s funny is ppl think she can’t be bi and yet, assume she’s straight (when she has no confirmed sexuality) bc ppl see straight as a default.

Is Ax/Marco AniTV canon?
Seriously.  Was the last Animorphs episode a case of “we’re already cancelled, so let’s openly queer the protagonists”?  (See: Legend of Korra, The 100, Supernatural, Being Human, Gotham, The Owl House, Angel, etc.)
I was rewatching AniTV, and I’m starting to think they made Ax/Marco canon.  Most of that last episode is about the kids getting ready for a school dance.  There’s a whole sequence where Marco convinces Ax to morph a rabbit, so that he can have a cute pet to attract girls — only as soon as a girl starts talking to Marco, Ax starts freaking out and scares her away.  Later, lizard-morphed-Marco gets grabbed by a teacher and stuck in a cage, and starts yelling for his friends in thought-speak, but only Ax hears his cries.  He rushes out of the dance to rescue Marco, the school gym gets destroyed by yeerks (off-screen), and they relocate the dance to the mall.  The last shot of the show is all six of them slow-dancing: Tobias with Rachel, Jake with Cassie — and Marco with Ax.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: Screenshot from AniTV showing 6 couples dancing in a room with a green floor, green tables, and gray chairs.  There are two couples of extras dancing in the background and one in the foreground, but the camera is focused on Tobias and Rachel (in a white jacket and a pink dress, respectively) while Jake and Cassie (in a black tuxedo and red dress) and Marco and Ax (in jeans and in a blue suit) dance on either side of them.  Marco and Ax are indicated with an orange circle.]
I’d always kind of dismissed that moment as being some combination of “pair the spares” and “lol so funniez when 2 boys together” (it is the 1990s, after all.)  However, on rewatching, several things stood out to me.
This is the last-ever episode of AniTV.  The one with yeerks in cell phones aired after, but was filmed before, and this ep was meant to be the finale.
It’s not just that Marco and Ax dance together; it’s that Marco sits down next to Ax (so close they’re touching), looks him in the eye, invites him to dance, holds his hand, and pulls their bodies together.  Not quite a silly friend dynamic.
They’re dancing in the same pose and manner as Rachel/Tobias and Cassie/Jake, both of whom are confirmed romantic couples.
The whole episode kinda has Ax/Marco undertones.  “Friend 1 tries to get various dates with Friend 2 as support, doesn’t realize until late in the story that Friend 2 was their love all along” is a classic teen-romance setup, and that’s basically Ax and Marco’s plot this episode.
It’s a weird choice to end the show on this note, given that this is Part 3 of a 3-part finale and yet the other two parts are about an animal-testing cosmetics company and a secret ex-controller group.  However, if the writers chose to have this be the focus of the last episode because it’s the last episode, arguably that makes more sense.
Just... this is more-romantic framing than I initially realized.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: Screenshot from AniTV Marco (in a gray shirt) leaning close to Ax, who wears a powder-blue suit jacket and bright blue bow tie.  Marco is holding Ax’s hand in the foreground, and Ax’s other arm is wrapped around Marco’s shoulders.]
Anyway, I’ve never seen any of the creators comment to confirm or deny it, so I have no idea if that was authorial intent or not.  But this is more than Beauty and the Beast or Legend of Korra ever gave us, in scenes known to have the intent of depicting a canonical queer romance.  And it’s more than I ever realized we got, from an undeniably crappy show that might still have this little spark of bisexual hope at the end.

Ok just watched the last ep of owl house so like warning for spoilers~~~~
Tumblr media
Thoughts I had prior to, during, post
1- wow if Belos, a witch-hunter who literally wants to kill all witches, doesn’t misgender Raine than the bar for transphobic assholes should really not be hard to reach (I.e., if Belos can do it, so can you)
2- it took me longer than it should have to realize that the tear marks on Raine’s face were their scars from the possession and then I was just like omg my baby
3- Huntlow at the end. I… their looks, waffle/waffles the palisman, hunter carving palismen, flapjacks grave, willow adding flowers
4- CANON DADDRIUS also was that a hint of Alador x Darius i saw at the end Dana. BESTIE U REALLY SAID U HEADCANON I CANON.
5- THE EARRINGS. Stop it
6- Lilith being harpy Lilith and omg her look and just the confidance and her and Steve’s friendship and Hooty
7- HOOTY U BEAU
8- raine and eda sitting in mini nest in the owl house or actually I’m not sure but I’m guessing that is where they were at the end and I just. My babies
9- vee at the end. Also I see ppl being like background pic confirming them and frick I forget other besties name bc it’s 3 am but them two together
10- Luz in titan form… ok I’m ngl I was like a lil hyped that she might stay that way… but literally KINGS DAD who IS HIS MOM AND DAD AH also back to Luz… WHEN EDA AND KING GO FULL FERAL GOBLIN AFTER LUZ *dies*
11- CAMILLA BEING LIKE ITS BEEN A WEEK LUZ
12- Raine fighting belos, raine stumbling, raine breaking their instrument in a last ditch effort, them whistling to themself, them having lost their glasses and being terrified because they can’t see its Eda, them continuing to fight alongside Eda, king and Luz after all that. CAN U TELL RAINE HAS WORMED THEIR WAY INTO MY HEART.
13- Edas smile when Luz is like where is the magic from… the heart. Idk why but this smile specifically
14- I feel like I must have seen hunter smile before now… well… but that gap tooth smile after they defeat Belos
15- I LOAF YOU
16- EVERYONES NEW LOOKS. BECAUSE GUS. And LUZ. AND VEE. AND AMITY. AND ANYONE ELSE.
Tumblr media
…ok I must sleep but this is not the end. Don’t worry I’ll tag it with all the things so hopefully y’all’s who have yet to see this don’t get spoilers. Me being from Canada and being a uni student with no easy access to cable understands that heh.

Based on an ask where you ranked the Disney Afternoon pilots, how would you rank the pilots of each of the newer set of Disney cartoons? The cutoff I'll use is starting with the batch from when Disney moved all their cartoons to Disney Channel in 2018,I'll simplify it by not including the ones after Owl House to cut down on it being a mouthful,Pilots are Star Comes to Earth,Going the Extra Milo,Woo-oo,Baymax Returns,Welcome Home(Big City Greens), Anne or Beast,Tangled Before Ever, and TOH's pilot
Tangled is taken out as I haven't watched that one. And to compensate i'll add in The Curse from Ghost and Molly McGee (Since I haven't seen Hailey's on it or hamster and gretel yet and i've only seen a bit of kiff's first episode) and for my own amusement (and because this is my answer so I can do what I like), Moon Girl Landing.
I"ll also say before this ranking that most of these are awesome first episodes that sell what the series is at that point well. Disney is really good at pilots and first episodes.
9. The Lying Witch and the Warden: Case in point this is the only one on this list that.. isn't good. It has good moments, but as i've talked to at length with many fellow owl house fans, paticuarlly @jess-the-vampire the pilot is very ...
Tumblr media
It beats you over the head with it's theme of "BE YOURSELF. BEING WEIRD IS OKAY", when the rest of the series does a much better job of expressing it's messages way better. It also hurt Camilla's character and reputation SO BAD that her next two episodes had to go out of their way to explain WHY she sent luz to what came off as a metaphor for conversion therapy in the pilot, show it wasn't that, show she came back right after to help, and have her accept luz as is. The character as she is now is amazing but how badly the pilot botched the assigment with her still left an impact on the series and it's the only one hwere where something in the first episode had to be course corrected this badly.
8. Baymax Returns: A solid tv movie and a neat way to bring back our squishy soft boy. I've only seen bits of this series but it's pretty good which given who made it isn't suprising.
7. Welcome Home: this is a weird one as Space Chicken was the first ep aired and produced, so my first impression of the series.. isn't this episode. Still as an INTENDED first episode it's pretty good, sets up Bill, Cricket and Tilly well. I just slightly prefer space chicken as, even with Tilly being slightly off, it showcases the entire core cast.
6. The Curse: A really good opener that sets up who molly is, why she needs brighton to be her forever home, and who scratch is and why he needs a friend. I also love the scene with mollys family finding out about scratch.. and after the shock wears off all taking it in stride to his massive annoyance.
5. Moon Girl Landing: The most recent pilot here and it's up so high for a reason. This show is fantastic and the opening does a really good job fleshing both Lunella and Devil out while also having a throughly memorable villian that gives it real personal stakes. Sure we know the family rink won't be gone in the first episode, they spent the money making that setting, but the power going down in LES and so many people's livelyhoods being in danger gives realistic stakes to "Genius 13 year old and giant red dinosaur fight elctro daughter".
4. Anne or Beast?: Another banger. Ugly Ugly Hero is still a tremendous line and it gets across our core 4 incredibly well. Also we have a slug instead of betsy for some reason who I love only because I love slugs and snails. Such shrively little guys.. or big guys in this case. Where did that snail go? Whose his agent? Am I now his agent? It's remakable how fleshed out everyone is from day one in almost all of these. I mean granted as we've seen these aren't the PILOTS but even so many series still take time to get a grasp of the cast. Amphibia and what we're about to see had it day one. 3. Star Comes to Earth: While Star Vs had a weak finish i'll probably never entirely let go it had one hell of a strong start. Star Comes to Earth tells us everything we need to know about who star and marco are. Granted Marco being the "Saftey kid" never comes up again, but it served it's point: to show Marco's a bit in his shell and cautious but wants badly to not be the responsible one, and Star provides a way out of that. Also once again we have a gag that's damn perfect with "I'm a magical princess from another dimension". It's remarkable how in just 11 minutes they set up pretty much everything for season 1 and a lot of things for the series: Star's reckleness and how she has a pretty loose grasp on her magic but a great one of combat, marco's martial arts and safteyness, his awesome parents, star's disapproving mom and ludo and co. It's a snappy 11 minutes that really sets the tone for season 1. I really shoudl revisit it with a proper review.
2. Going the Extra Milo: Speaking of things that need a proper review hot damn do I love this episode. Just thinking back to it, it does what a pilot should do and I know I keep repeating myself but that's because a good pilot is setup, showing you who these characters are (even if they can sometims be slightly off) and showing off the premise. In this case it keeps it simple: Milo meets Zack, who as a new kid serves as a perfect window into the weird shit that happens to milo.... while also showing us why he can be so chipper and happy despite the worst happening to him. The "How can you live like this scene" Is really what lands this so high, showing that milo rather than see his constant misfortune as a terrible thing.. sees it as having fun lifethreanting adventures every day. He gets to have an intresting life and Zack sees that being around milo is dangeorus.. but it's also a lot of fun. And that more importantly.. milo's one heck of a guy. Melissa also gets a lot of fleshing out as we both see her faith in milo via the side bet and her hustler nature. Had this show actually got proper promotion this would've been another hit on this pilot alone. Alas we got what we got.. and at least the two seasons we got keep this level of quality up.
1. Woo-ooo!: Look ya'll know I love ducktales, so you likely saw this coming.. but even loving me some ducks woo-ooo is just .. objectively the best on here. It does everything I said a pilot shoudl do while also having some really gorgeous shots like scrooge putting his money in the bin o rthe sweeing intro of duckburg. I'll grant it has more time than most pilots but really it does a LOT of it's character exposition in the first 5 minutes: within that we get who the boys and donald are and where scrooge is now, while the rest shows us who he was and will be again, introduces webby, beakley and launchpad and even sets up the series final villian. The second half adding in Glomgold is just gravy at this point. It's honestly weirdly LESS awkward than the rest of early season 1, where it seems they struggle more to find the shows identity while this.. shows they had the core of it from the start.

Some miscellaneous observations from rewatching Episode 3 with added context from Episode 15:
(cut for length)
Tumblr media
It’s quite interesting to consider what Amity herself might be thinking during her introduction scene; one thing that’s especially notable is the fact she knows exactly how to find Willow out in the middle of absolutely nowhere, yet still claims that her running into Willow was a complete accident (with accompanying insults).
It might be that she followed Willow to this area, or just that she knows Willow’s habits well enough to tell that she’d be here, but either way, it certainly lends credence to the idea that she was making some sort of attempt to encourage Willow without actually being nice to her. Sadly, that’s not exactly how one generally encourages someone...
It definitely also feels as if she’s trying to imitate Boscha in this scene, but... poorly. She’s way more awkward about it than the real deal, that’s for sure!
I swear, that top student badge is going to haunt me. Will it ever come up again??? I must know
Willow is so excited when she realises Luz is a human... does that come from her being friends with Gus, or do people in the Boiling Isles just naturally find humans fascinating even when they’re not outright obsessed with them..?
I wonder if Amity thrives in the abomination track under such a difficult teacher because she's used to meeting the expectations of strict and unforgiving authority figures thanks to her parents? By contrast Willow, whose parents seem fairly normal in the love and support department, is struggling a lot - even considering the fact that plants are her specialty and she doesn’t really do well in other fields, I imagine she wouldn’t necessarily fail every assignment if she had a more forgiving teacher.
On a similar note, Amity's anger towards Willow (and later Luz) for cheating might very well come from experience with her siblings? If they’re in the habit of skipping school, I would not be surprised to learn that they cheat on schoolwork at times as well. As Eda has proven, a skilled witch can get away with a lot, even as a student!
Tumblr media
You know, I don’t think I consciously registered before that the weather vane has a little carving of Owlbert on the top of it. Very cute!
...also it’s visible in the OP in every single episode, so I really should pay more attention
Tumblr media
In hindsight, I would not be at all surprised if Amity waited on purpose for the perfect moment to jump on the table for peak dramatic effect, since she specifically waits until Willow expresses concern that Amity might see Luz eating food before taking action.
Tumblr media
I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS MANY COVEN BANNERS SHOWED UP IN THIS EPISODE AND I DIDN’T NOTICE except I can because I wouldn’t have any indication that they actually meant anything until Episode 5. No problems here!
Tumblr media
...this morning, Luz. Eda told you that this morning.
You know, I wonder if Luz questions what Eda says about magic's unpredictability being beautiful because she also called the trash slug “breathtaking” shortly before that...
