Showing yourself to the world, and hoping someone else understands." Babel by R. F. Kuang I had high hopes for Babel and thankfully it didn't disappoint. This is the first book that I read from R. F. Kuang and I loved her writing style. The book has the vibe of dark academia and grapples with student revolutions, colonial resistance and the use of translation as a tool of empire. The characters of the book were done really well and I especially liked our main character Robin Swift, who has an excellent character development. The three supporting characters were really good as well and I loved the friendship dynamics between the four of them. The book takes place in our world but adding the magic of silver-working makes it unique. Finally, the research that the author has done shows in every aspect of the book. Happy Wednesday! Last week, the first in a trilogy called The Art of Prophecy by Wesley Chu hit the shelves and boy what an epic read, especially if you love high fantasy like I do. The chosen one trope was turned on it’s head in so many ways and I applaud that ❤️ What do you find is typically your favorite book in a trilogy- the first, middle, or last? Hello everyone!! We are in the middle of the week, so let's talk about a book that I read recently as part of the #btww reasalong. Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Fairies by Heather Fawcett is a book that I enjoyed but not as much as I was expecting. It is written in the form of Emily's diary, which makes the writing a little dry. However, we get to see Emily's thoughts in more detail. I found the story really interesting,with some really good twists. Our main character Emily is very introverted and thorny. Also, I wanted the romance to be more built up. It felt a little flat and the book wouldn't have been different without it. Overall, the book is cute, funny and light and full of faerie lore that I loved. I find them very informative and a great palette cleanser between my usual reads. A Little History of Science traces the march of science through the centuries. The book is well-written and you can easily read and comprehend it regardless of your knowledge in the subject. A great read for children and adults alike. Hello everyone!! Today I have a small review. It is about Phaedra by Laura Shepperson, which is a Greek myth retelling. I love reading retellings and especially myth retellings. This one is a powerful feminist retelling of Phaedra's story and her unyielding quest for justice. The book is well written and discusses many important issues such as patriarchy and injustice. It shows really well the horrors that the women went through and how low they were valued by their society. I really enjoyed reading Phaedra, despite its slow start and the many POVs.
