The Outlander 31 Day Challenge: Day 16
Day 16: Favorite Lord John scene
Nearly impossible to choose just one, but I loved this pairing and this scene from 4x06 “Blood of my Blood.” We had seen very few interactions between Lord John and Claire up until this point, besides the tension filled one in Jamaica. Claire and John get right down to brass tacks while alone in the cabin, and the conversation between the two starts off very much like a game of chess.
The end result, however, is a deep respect and mutual understanding between the two which brings them infinitely closer. It’s a wonderfully effective episode in that such few lines of dialogue establish the strong foundation of their relationship as we move forward in the series and the story. It’s also a beautiful way to present what would have been an undoubtably hard world for John to exist in as a gay man at that time in history. This line above is one of my favorites in the series. Wonderfully acted, and a memorable scene.

I saw the exchange with Maril re Williie on Twiter ystdy, *smfh*. She/they will never get it or don't care to try. I found it quite interesting that as much as Murtagh loves Jamie he didn't show an ounce of interest in W. In the books, when Brianna visits LLB, the Murrays radiate joy at learning Jamie has a child. I expected the same reaction from Murtagh. I get that he was upset about LJG/politics but was part of it also due to disappointment that he's not Claire's child?
I finally unfollowed her last night... Not because she defended Jamie’s love of Willie, I was 100% with her about that. But because of this:
“A lot of people felt” is a weird way to say “book!Jamie is a rapist.” Also, she completely ignores the fact that Geneva did indeed rape Jamie. I honestly don’t think she believes what they included in that scene was a rape. Bye, Felicia.
To the second part of your ask...
I think Murtagh would have reacted differently if he found out about Willie under different circumstances. As it happens in the show, though, he’s only very recently gotten Jamie back only to find that Jamie has thrown in his lot with the English, befriended the soldier who was the governor of Ardsmuir and was on the opposing side at Culloden, and fathered another child with someone other than Claire who is an English Lord being raised by their former jailor. It’s...a lot. I think finding out about Willie in the manner he did was like just piling on the heap of disappointing things that Murtagh is still trying to wrap his head around when it comes to Jamie.
I mean, look how Claire reacted when she found out about Joan and Marsali and thought they were Jamie’s. Knowing that people have had their own lives is one thing, finding out (or thinking you’ve found out) that those lives involve biological proof of them being with other people is a whole other level of revelation. It’s totally natural for your first reaction in that instance to not be one of glowing love and congratulations. I don’t think it’s directed at Willie (or Joan and Marsali), but at Jamie. Right or wrong, it’s understandable.
