Colour and shape

For the agricultural expo, the poster took an abstract point of view for it. Using solely shape and colour. Motter has managed to illustrate a chicken without using any actual imagery. Furthermore, Motter has done so with the use of (bar two exceptions) only triangles.

verena gerlach

Berlin Graphic Designer, Verena Gerlach studied Visual Communication at Kunsthochschule Berlin Weissensee. After graduating in 1998, she founded her own studio for graphic design, type design and typography. Between 2006-2006 Verena art-directed several video clips and worked on the typographic production for international, contemporary artists.

Hijra Fantastik (an art research project by Claudia Reiche)

Hijra Fantastik is an inquiry into Femininity and explores this idea as a contribution to the Year of the Women. The Logotype Hijra Fantastic is made of a work-in-progress typeface, Gerlach designed being inspired by the stunning hand painted shop letterings she found in Bangalre. A hybrid to Letraset catalogues, featuring Tectura (Othmar Motter, 1971) and Stop (Aldo Novarese, 1971).

Bauhaus and America Experiments in Light and Movement

The logotype Bauhaus is an experimental, typographic creation by Gerlach. It plays with strong contrasts and different widths of letter to reflect a feeling of movement and changing perception. The word America is set Christian Schwart'z Giorgio. It aims to being some glamorous spirit of the US cities in the 1950ies.

Paris-based studio Violaine & Jérémy is a multidisciplinary creative studio that typically works across identities, poster design, illustration, typography and more. Made up of Jérémy Schneider and Violaine Orsoni, the studio believes in “beauty, refinement, delicacy and timelessness”. As a result, Violaine & Jérémy’s portfolio is bursting with projects that are not only beautiful but are executed with precision and finesse.  The latest project from the studio is a typeface called Cako, originally designed by Schneider for a brand identity that was never presented to the client. “We design many custom fonts for our projects, but we only use 20% of what’s produced,” the studio says. “We began designing Cako with the G and the K. The shapes are inspired by Art Deco, but we transformed the shapes to make them more contemporary with a lot less decoration.” Another reference for the pair was a typeface from the 70s, designed by Austrian graphic designer Othmar Motter.
