Station 19 7x05

And just like that, we're 100 episodes in and half way through season 7. 🥺 And it was a great episode!

It was always going to centre around Andy and her captaincy, and I love that she asked Maya to put her captain's pin on her. I know that people feel that the friendship isn't always depicted in the best way, but - for me - it's always been one of the most important relationships on the show. Maya is one of her biggest supporters and I'm glad that Maya is in a place where she can celebrate her friend's success without it hurting her, knowing what she lost when her own captaincy was taken away from her.

"There is no life to be lived in the ashes" ... I love this line.

Plus, Maya in her Class As. 🔥👌🏻

I'm not mad that Maya apologised to Beckett. If you rewatch the conversation between Maya and Ben in 6x11, Maya giving Beckett the bottle and the reasons behind it (regardless of her mental health), and the consequences of it, is something that has been weighing on her. Ben says to her: you can apologise for it when you're ready. It's been something that she wants and needs to do, and now she's ready.

What I hate... so much... is the lack of accountability for Beckett's actions. 🙄 The bullying, the hazing, and everything he did that contributed to Maya's breakdown. It's not all on him, but some of it is. We've only ever seen an apology from him to the group and there have never been any consequences on him. Yes, he has an addiction, and yes he deserves some compassion for that, but he also needs to be held accountable and Maya is owed an apology from him, too.

I'm glad they gifted us Doctor DeLuca in this episode and her "I wish you could have met your Zio Andrea, you would have loved him" hit me right in the feels. I love that they acknowledged that she's missing her family as she's growing her own.

Did they forget about the lawsuit already?

As someone pointed out on Twitter, the fact that Carina - an OB - didn't check her FSH levels before they started at home inseminations makes zero sense. 🤦🏼‍♀️ And I don't understand the point of giving them this extra challenge in the IVF process when they don't have time to tell the story. But at least they haven't destroyed her dream of carrying a child completely and it was a sweet scene. Maya's "I didn't want to have a family until you showed me what a family is" made my heart melt.

Vic's downward spiral is heartbreaking to watch and Barrett Doss is killing it every episode. Vic is someone who we know has grown up not talking about her feelings, she calls her parents out about it after their restaurant burns down in season 4. She lost Ripley, she lost Pruitt, she lost Dean, she lost Theo, now she's losing Crisis One. She needs to talk about it (I'm gutted that Diane won't be back this season to help her) and someone needs to wrap that woman into a big hug and tell her everything is going to be ok. Crisis One is one of the best things they have ever done for her character and I hope they find a way to save it.

Alright so it’s been a hot minute since i’ve been here, life truly gets in the way and i feel that i’m going through the motions but finally after the buzz has settled i wanted to reflect a bit on Station 19 season 6.

I think we’re standing at a different place than we were by the end of season 5 and i believe that’s great. We went from that insanity -not in a good way- of season to something much much better. Few changes were made and it showed from the very beginning of season 6. To put it simply it was raw, by far the rawest season in terms of storyline, obviously because of what Maya went through, the repercutions it had on Carina and so on… Mental health was the overall arc for season 6 and honestly? I loved how it played out… Fair to say a LOT of people saw themselves in Carina and Maya which sparked the conversation -the very much needed conversation-

It was a rollercoaster but i’m glad we went through those moments because it lead to a healthier outcome instead of a quick fix it showed a more realistic side of a journey that can’t be taken lightly. On the other hand i wished they would’ve handled the Beckett story a bit better, by the end of it the writers made a good job by Vic checking up on him and just sparkling that conversation. I enjoyed the brief love triangle between Andy/Eli/Travis, it would have been funnier that they explored that angle deeper but i guess it turned out alright.

The expectations were so high when a female chief was announced but it turns out that it was just another love interest for a man, love to see it (please notice the sarcasm). While i don’t mind that Ross had history with Sullivan i kinda hated how her character just became the woman simping for the guy. They tried to redeem her a bit but it wasn’t enough. I would have LOVED that she actually made some changes within SFD to support women and actually make things better. Remember the storyline about fighting sexism? Yeah, me too. Anyways it was terrible that she was shamed for having a consensual relationship with another adult but it makes me grit my teeth the double standards: the whole you’re heroic for basically organizing a mutiny but when someone breaks protocol for saving a life that’s wrong or having a relationship with someone who outranks you but we’re totally ignoring that too, i get it, it’s for the sake of drama but certain things needs to make sense.

All that leads me to Andy being captain, we all saw it coming, there’s no way Maya was going to be captain again -at least not while being on 19- and while it should have been handled a bit better (the woman does have ambitions and putting a pause to pursue her dreams to heal does not mean she needs to abandon it) i think Andy deserved something a bit better, not just: alright you’re captain now. At least her first “shift” as captain was packed with action but still…

And that also brings me to Theo: at first he was like alright, laid back dude, gets the job done but the second he got promoted it’s like it flipped a switch on him especially being such an ass to Vic for absolutely no reason like ??? But at least she left him, i really liked how she pointed out that being happy for her friend does not mean she’s not supporting him (i wonder if that friendship also extends to Maya, after yk, call her a nasty person and do absolutely nothing to stand for her. Yes i will always be bitter about how everyone turned their backs on Maya).

Jack can’t seem to catch a break and God knows what’s gonna happen to him but at least he’s healthier and trying to stay out of other people’s relationships which i’m glad. I loved how Ben and Miranda where kinda there for Maya and Carina (i say kinda because it’s not like Maya had the greatest support out there but Ben did listen so that’s something. Also shout out to Diane, she’s incredible and i love whenever she appears)

Finally -because this is way too long lol- we know where we are standing in terms of Maya and Carina growing their family, for a solid minute i thought well, they are being ambiguous because it’s probably leading to that but no, it wasn’t. I wasn’t mad that they didn’t make Carina pregnant by the end of the season, if anything the scenes where they are discussing how many kids and stuff makes it so much more meaningful because Maya is obviously in such a better head space. Oh and just as a quick comment: Carina should have gone to therapy too, she needed to heal from that rocky period of time and it would have been cool to see her perspective, even if we saw sneak peaks with Vic, Miranda and Diane i believe sitting down and leading to a backstory would have been so much better.

If you got to this point i love you, i wanted to ramble a bit and finally found the moment to sit down and put this together (it’s a bit all over the place, just like my brain but bare with me). Catch you on season 7🤍

I'm in the 'barely watched 2019' gang!

(let's be real it's the 'barely watched after The Incident' because I fell completely out of love with the show and robron after that episode...it took a long time to recover).

It just frustrates me how fantastic Rob was during Aaron's abuse story but everything after (Iain's favourite Mary Sue character) Rebecca turned up was like 'nah we're gonna ignore that character development and turn Robert into whatever the plot/every other character needs'.

Aaron's been pretty consistent over the years, but Robert? Wildcard character, depending on which writer it was.

It could have been so good. They had time after Ryan announced he was leaving! They had time!

it could also have been SO MUCH WORSE anon. We got robron in love until the end, Robert sacrificing everything so Aaron could have the life he (in Rob's mind) deserved and generally putting himself LAST - when everyone always called him selfish and self centred.

I mean Luke - big reveal that he used to date Ethan's old MALE roommate and he fought with his brother the same day Robert hit him, a few DAYS later he's moving to Manchester.

Bernice - suddenly has money problems and debts in Nicola's name (or something - i didn't pay much attention to that story tbh) within a week she's gone to live with Diane in Portugal

David - wants to get back together with Vic after being an insufferable manchild for ages over a speeding ticket, finds out she's dating his son, throws another tantrum and suddenly leaves to go help Priya with Amba in London.

Dan - poor man's version of Robert's exit, with the same actor as in Robert's story playing his lawyer

Meena - on the run after she escaped Charles (I think) and could have been good as this lingering threat Out There - but they kept bringing her back and every time the story had the potential to let her go out in a blaze of glory, they pulled some Twist™ to finally have her arrested and sent down because Murder is Bad.

Marcus (Ethan's ex) - Ignoring the whole Pierce's son thing that was dropped after 2 episodes, he and Ethan are happy (as far as we know), living together, everything is all sunshine and rainbows... suddenly HIS EX shows up and he sleeps with him in his and Ethan's bed while Ethan wants to propose. Within a few days he's gone.

Marshall (Arthur's ex boyfriend) - has more scenes with Laurel than Arthur in the entire time he's on the show, suddenly has a plot aunt somewhere that he wants to go live with and oh yeah, he and Arthur are having Problems™

Liv - killed off after getting crushed by a CARAVAN

Rishi and Harriet - killed off for shock and cheap drama.

the second half of 2019 was HELL but it could have been so much worse.

When Vic finds out pretty much the entire village (including Sandy and Liv) are betting on how long Robert and Aaron stay together, she winds up telling Robert all about it. Well, that just won’t do at all, the villagers poking their nose in their business. Two can play at that game (that is both Robert and Aaron) so let the games begin and who will come out on top? Is that even a question.

Also her and Aaron acting like Robert is scum when they guilty as much about lying about Katie death and Aaron much willing partipcant of the affair as Robert. Also still annoying how everyone is like Katie is right like who Robert was or was not bonking was any of her business, as a newly wed why she come so distracted to point she drove her new/old husband away and ruined her marriage just to get back at Robert for what a childish prank because he was hurt he been left once again by his own family in favour of Andy.

as someone who has been at the ugliest end of reddit & discord tv/britcom fans' trolldom (too nice a word, really), and lived through the fucking unending years-long era of that one incel's rule over the panel show subreddit, i understand the reticence to participate in those spaces — even though, these days, they're mostly pleasant enough and subs that supply downloads (tv_bunny is life) are more or less transactional. that said, the purpose of this blog has always been to service the people who can't or don't torrent — who a lot of reddit & discord tv/britcom fans don't have the patience for, but i digress — so it doesn't bother me that a lot of my followers don't know reddit as well as i do. no worries!

omg! recently i watched after life (i love kerry godliman!!!!!!!), dara ó briain's new special, and i've also been doing my biannual re-listen of the entire horne section podcast because it is so fucking impeccable chef's kiss! i was catching up on guessable but it's really, deeply, truly mid, so i kinda gave up for a while and switched over to breeders (martin freeman agenda continues). otherwise non-panel show things, some films like close, return to dust, un beau matin, etc. — but that's for my main hehe i'm someone who wishes i could watch 10000 things in one day T_T

Just finished Danielle’s episode… Happy she got to direct a big accident scene (especially with the small Station 19 budget these days).

Loved Jason George’s performance in this episode! It broke my heart seeing the man struggling. But I did not like the throwaway comment Bailey made about won’t let him end up in the hospital like Bishop did. Initially I thought “haha Maya’s the ‘bad example’ at 19 now- previously Vic made fun of her cooking (Vic making jokes to the teenagers) and now Bailey referenced her mental breakdown.” At the moment I thought it was alright to laugh because well, they did all happen, but it felt a little wrong with the Bailey comment. And the more I thought about this, the more I felt uncomfortable about it.

Ben’s guilty about making a promise to Milo and Taylor that he’d come back save Taylor but could not do so. He didn’t feel proud about saving a life, he felt horrible for saving only one life. As terrible as it is, what Ben was going through is entirely different from Maya’s situation. Simply put, Maya’s breakdown was from pent-up abuse lasted through her entire life and the unfair demotion pushed her spiraling down to the deep end. I don’t get the comparison in their cases and I certainly disagree with their decision to keep the line in (and to have the line written in the first place). What did this line achieve exactly?! It also implied that Carina let Maya drown in her darkness which couldn’t be any further from the truth. When I went on the bird app and saw many had the same thought, glad I’m not alone. 👌🏼

I’m so glad that Maya Bishop is getting better with the long-overdue help from Diane and she is apologizing to those she hurt during her mental health downfall. However, I do not find the writers making Maya the “laughing stock” by everyone else funny. It gets even more annoying and tiring to see that every week Maya is there apologizing to everyone and feeling guilty about her previous actions, but no one, not a single person, even acknowledged or apologized for their actions (or the lack of) that had pushed Maya over the edge.

Also, when will the Station 19 writers realize that Dr. Carina DeLuca is an independent character?! Yes, it’s great to have Marina scenes, but please show some respects to the character… and don’t even get me start on promoting Stefania as the series regular but not putting her in episodes regularly?! Carina DeLuca does not have to only show up as Maya Bishop’s wife.

I liked seeing Andy putting Sullivan to his place! You tell him, Andy! Stop being a self-centered ass and support your woman! Lastly, I agree with Ross, if Andy becomes the chief, she’d do great and it’s not because of Ross. I always find Andy showing some entitlement with being in charge of 19, but in this season I see an Andy who’s matured so much! If Maya won’t be reinstated, I’m happy to see Andy becoming the next permanent captain.

Anyways, here’s my favorite Maya Bishop scene from the episode. They tried to keep her appearance at a minimum in this episode, but she still nailed this scene! The mothers in this episode also broke my heart… 💔 The backpack shot was beautiful… 🥲

Good job (both directing and acting), Danielle! Congratulations on an exciting action & emotion packed episode!

July 17th summary

We watched from 2015/09/25 p4 to 2015/09/28 p3.

Aaron finds Chas standing over Robert. Other villagers arrive and find Robert injured. Ross tells Debbie he's off to the airport, maybe going for good. Chas and Aaron both think each other must have shot Robert. Robert is kept in a medically-induced coma until he's more stable. Vic and Diane stay with him but Chrissie tells Lawrence she can't play the grieving wife and goes home.

Lawrence says he found the safe open and the gun gone so they plan to say there was a burglary and a bracelet was taken and not mention the gun. Paddy has broken his glasses and was away from Marlon for much of the night, but he tries to keep this quiet because he worries what the police will make of him worrying about Aaron.

Why only Maya is apologizing and making amends?

Like, Beckett should want to make specific amends with Maya? Not only he tortured her for SIX MONTHS even before that he only called Maya "pretty", as we see at the beginning of season five.

Also, Ross didn't have the decency to call Maya to an room and have her sit and have a normal conversation about her demotion. Maya didn't get a hearing, an investigation, nothing. Just a two minutes talk in the barn.

Yeah, I agree that what Maya did was fucked up and she should apologize to Ross and to Beckett as well. But she wasn't the only one making mistakes.

Also, it's weird how they are acting as if the whole team is fine with Maya and Maya is fine with them when clearly it wasn't like that before the breakdown.

Like, Vic and Maya joking? Without a conversation between them at all? It's a bit weird.

Also, also, I think it would be interesting if Carina shows up in the next episode and she has 0 patience and forgiveness to Beckett over how he treated her wife. If he isn’t in the s* route (which I hope he isn't), that could be something interesting.

All you've said about Maya, Beckett and Ross - I totally agree with you. They've told very different stories for each of them, to Maya's detriment. Absolutely, Maya needed to apologise - but she also deserves an apology back. More than an apology, tbh - she lost her job, she ended up in hospital, and no-one has been held accountable for either of those things. It's a big flaw in the storytelling, IMO.

I don't think Maya was ever in a bad place with the team, was she? There's still a big question mark over how much they know about her breakdown, what happened in the hospital and what she's been talking to Diane about.

I don't think Maya not running for captain is because of Carina in that way. More that she is still healing, still working on herself and her marriage, and isn't ready yet to 'unleash the beast' and throw herself in the race. At least, that's how I see it.

Oh, I'd love Carina to tell Beckett what she really thinks of him when she's at the station next episode. Or, at the very least, she shoots him one of her 'looks'. 😂

Doom Patrol for the movie/TV asks!

favorite female character: Jane (in case it wasn't obvious from my icon). She's beautifully complex and Diane Guerrero slays in the role.

favorite male character: Can't decide between Cliff and Larry. They both have such moving arcs revolving around making amends with their loved ones and becoming better people. I'd probably have to give Cliff the edge, though, mostly because Brendan.

worst female character: None of them are really the worst, but if there's one I don't love quite as much as the others, it's Dorothy.

worst male character: Again, none of them are the worst, but Vic is probably the least interesting to me.

otp: Larry/John, Rita/Rouge (not quite OTP territory for me yet, but they definitely could be).

brotp: Cliff and Jane.

notp: Don't think I have one, except I guess Dorothy/anyone since she's a child.

To your "never watched 2019" anon, please let them know, I will keep them company in the club 😂 Couldn't do it then. Can't do it now. The Vic SL started out strong and initially the Robron SL accompanying it was solid as well. Robert struggling with his guilt of not being able to protect his sister and being "very Robert" about the situation. Aaron challenging Robert on his stance and bringing his own story to make Robert understand, Vic standing here ground, Diane being the confused mediator that she always was, Aaron being a friend to Vic etc. Those early days have us some quite intense and honest to God complex sls that tested Domestic Robron as a couple. And Ryan and Danny were absolutely stupendously brilliant in them. Personally, I rate some of those fight scenes to be equally enjoyable as some of the 2016 SLs. And it was genuinely a welcome relief after the clumsy way in which Emmerdale had decided to resurrect the surrogacy SL. Robron having to make that choice between supporting their sisters or paying for the surrogacy, dividing up their responsibilities and chores showed how the couple had matured into husband|husband from affair era Robron. It was beautiful, deep, very Robron and not entirely badly crafted/written.

Then the news broke. And I remember that it was the first time I knew what the phrase "being hit by a ton of bricks" meant. And it didn't help that the SL kept getting more and more ridiculous. Somehow, the village with Dingles, Sugdens was completely powerless against Lee!!🙆‍♀️Aaron was reduced to being almost a sidekick in some of those fight scenes with Lee, which made no sense, and most scenes were about Robert and Vic and not Robron in the Mill!! If it wasn't for Ryan and Danny's powerful acting in those handful of scenes that focused on Robron... Anyway, I gave up. It hurt too much. And now, all that SL leading up to Robert being incarcerated and Aaron moving on has been put in question by Emmerdale themselves, so I don't need to watch it! 😂🤣 Didn't stop me yelling at the show though. There is a part of me, I think that will always be sad that Robron didn't get their story. Aaron being there for Robert and Robert coping in prison and how they keep the family together for 14 years (or less) is a sl that was made for Robron. They would get through it. I know they would have. They are it for each other. And they know it. I don't care what anybody says.

You're right and you should say it, anon. But honestly, every problem you (and I and everyone with half a brain) had with the shitshow that was the second half of 2019... it's all to blame on this asshole (affectionate)

So if he could just stop climbing coconut trees and filming capybaras for a bit and come back as Robert, that would be grand!
