The Body on the Rocks
content: murder, kidnapping, two whumpers, lady whumper, creepy/intimate whumper, creepy touching, choking, begging, defiant whumpee
"We're killing him."
"Aw, come on."
Derian gasps as he wakes up. There's a blunt, pulsing pain in his head, and he shuts his eyes almost as soon as he opens them.
"Wakey-wakey, pretty boy!" a man's voice laughs, and kicks Derian in the stomach. Derian's cry of pain only makes him laugh again.
"See! He's cute," the man says, and Derian can hear the bright grin on his face, and it makes him feel ill.
A woman groans. "We are killing him."
"N-No!" Derian chokes out, and he can feel both people's eyes on him in an instant.
The man drops to a crouch in front of Derian, and Derian shuts his mouth.
"Aw, don't be like that," the man smiles.
Derian forces himself to focus. He can feel grass beneath him, where he's lying, and the light suggests the sun is setting. The side of his head feels sticky - was he knocked out?
He doesn't know. He can barely remember a thing beyond his own name.
"We've got places to be," the woman snaps. "Stop teasing him."
"You try teasing him," the man replies. "It's fun."
Something about this man feels familiar to Derian. Something about his laugh, his demeanor, like it's something he knows.
Fuck. Derian's own thoughts are slipping through his fingers like fog, but he knows he heard it, not far from here. He was smoking, and he walked over, and… and…
His neck hurts like hell. Gingerly, he rubs at it, then sucks a sharp breath through his teeth. He's bruised. Someone strangled him. The woman shoved him up against a rock by the throat, and every nerve in his body jolted violently at the sensation, and then there was nothing.
"What's your name, pretty boy?" the man asks, dragging the tips of his fingers down the side of Derian's face. "Though don't count on me calling you by it."
"D-Derian." He flinches away from the man's touch. The man laughs. Derian's tongue feels like sandpaper. "Gonna tell me yours, asshole?"
The man rolls his eyes. "Spicy. No need for language like that. It's--"
"Don't tell him your name!" the woman hisses. "He doesn't need to know a thing about us! I'm done with this."
Derian cries out as he's pulled to his feet. The woman is dragging him towards the edge of the cliff. He screams and struggles, but he is small and slight and this woman is stronger than he could ever hope to be.
He needs to tell Charlie he's sorry. He needs to call his dad. He needs to plant flowers for his mom. He needs to tell Charlie he's sorry.
"PLEASE!" Derian screams.
A strangled whine tears through his throat as he's abruptly stopped. He's fucking dangling off the edge. He squirms in the woman's grip, kicking to get his feet on solid ground, but she stops him with a hand squeezing his throat.
"Beg again," she says sharply. "Nicer, this time."
"I--!" Derian gasps. He can't help his eyes flickering down to the rocks below. There's a body. The body of the screaming boy he just wanted to save, before he wound up knocked out at the mercy of these two.
His head is swimming, but it's coming back to him. He just wanted to save someone who got dragged out here to be killed.
And he couldn't do it.
He feels the man's head resting on his shoulder. He doesn't have to turn to know the bastard is smiling.
"I'd do what she says, pretty boy." The man's breath is on his neck. "She can get a little tetchy."
"Please," Derian whispers. "P-Please. I don't-- I don't want to die."
The woman's grip shifts. Derian's heart is still racing, breathing so quickly it's burning. He can feel the woman's eyes glancing between him and the body on the rocks.
"You beg pretty," she says, then throws Derian backwards. The force of hitting the ground knocks all of the air out of his lungs. "Alright. We'll keep him."
The man grins and claps his hands. "I knew you'd come around!"
"Do we have any sedatives?"
"Best I can do you is duct tape."
Derian only has a couple seconds. The world is hazy and unsteady in his grasp, but all he can think about is getting away. The ground is firm under his feet and he is running so fucking fast that his hair is whipping against his face.
He doesn't even get to scream when the man grabs him. A hand is clamped over his mouth and an arm wound so tightly around his chest that it's pressing down on his ribs.
"Pretty boy," the man says, a sing-songy lilt to his voice. "Play nice, huh?"
Derian makes a muffled noise of protest. He can't move in any useful way, and the next he gets to make a sound is when he's slammed over the front of a minivan and his vision swims again.
"Be careful with this later," the woman says pointedly, then slaps duct tape over Derian's mouth.
"Yeah, yeah, I got you," the man rolls his eyes, and tapes Derian's wrists together. "But think about the sounds he'd make…"
It fades to idle chatter as they pull Derian into the car. He isn't thinking about them.
Charlie was the last person to hear from him. And he screamed at Charlie, told him he'd be back whenever, and Charlie probably assumed that meant he'd disappear for a few weeks again and turn up when he was ready to apologise and then do it all over again. Charlie won't even think anything of it that he's gone.
Who knows where he's going to be in a few weeks?
Derian takes a deep breath. He's not going to lose hope in the back of these fuckers' minivan.
"Hey, pretty boy." The man snaps his fingers in front of Derian's face, and Derian's eyes quickly dart to him. "Whimper for me."
Derian glares at him.
The man laughs, and pulls Derian into his lap. Derian freezes.
"Come on," the man says softly, fingers ever-so-slowly trailing across Derian's body. "Do it for me."
His grip tightens on Derian's hip hard enough to bruise, and he gets what he wants.
"Oh." The man's other hand cups Derian's chin with a gentleness that Derian finds spine-chilling all the same. "I love you already."
"Maybe introduce yourself before bringing out the confessions of love?" the woman comments from the driver's seat.
"Did I forget to introduce us? Shame." The man runs his fingers through Derian's hair. "Nicolas Wainwright. And my sister Ophelia. You'll have fun with us. Promise."
Derian closes his eyes. He's going to imagine that he's with Charlie, and he's apologised, and he's going to change this time, he swears, and they're lying on the sofa watching a stupid movie that neither of them are paying attention to.
Yeah. He's going to imagine that, and ignore Nicolas' breath on his neck.

( ALISHA WAINWRIGHT. THIRTY-ONE. CISFEMALE. SHE/HER. ) in texas, OPHELIA FAIRCHILD is more commonly known as OPHELIA. they’ve been living in stratford /newton for SIX MONTHS and currently CARDIAC SURGEON. some say they are AVOIDANT & SHORT-TEMPERED but i’m more inclined to believe those that say they’re AFFABLE & MOTHERLY. if you walk by their house, you can sometimes hear BLUE ROMANCE by MAKE OUT MONDAY playing from their window. ( red stethoscope resting on black scrubs, medical books stacked to the ceiling, drinking a hot cup of tea on a windowsill in the early morning. ) [ it’s syd here again with more trash. ] (filling the connection of brody’s ex wife!!)

okay so I have a bunch of classifications in my brain for music, some of them random and vague and some VERY specific.
Like obviously we all have songs that get us TURNT from the start, but I have this type of song that when you first play it, I’ll recognise it but still carry on with my life until it hits That Part™ and that’s when my Soul is Awakened and the Spirit of The Music enters my body until the song ends.
Songs include:
- Celine Dion’s It’s All Coming Back to Me Now (the part where she says Baby Baby twice; I’ve never not screamed that part with the raw emotion of a recently left lover)
- Tina Turner’s Proud Mary (obviously the part where the song REALLY kicks off and ya gotta do the Miss Congeniality 2 dance)
- The Lumineers’ Ophelia (the part where the piano guy just completely fuckin LOSES it and goes ham on those keys)
- Martha Wainwright’s Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole (at the very first screamed out “bloody motherfuckin asshole”, so cathartic, so good)
- The Goo Goo Dolls’ Iris (cmon, you know exactly when)
- Ottawan’s D.I.S.C.O. (when he starts listing the letters, I physically can’t stop myself from going she is “D-delirious, I-incredible, S-superficial, C-complicated she is OHHHH-WHOAAAHHH”)
- ABBA’s Voulez-Vous (the only song of ABBA’s that doesn’t get me off my chair AS SOON as it comes on, but as soon as we hear that “voulez-vous” I have to yell “AH-HA!”)
and of course
- Oasis’ Don’t Look Back in Anger (“AND SOOOOOO SALLY CAN WAIT SHE KNOWS IT’S TOO LATE AS WE’RE WALKING ON BY”)
———
send me a 🌻 and ill just tell you whatever the fuck i want

Here's a prompt: barbed wire restraints :)
!!!!!!! oh this is wonderful. thank you!!
content: barbed wire restraints, captivity whump, copious amounts of blood, lady whumper, creepy/intimate whump, filmed whump, pet names, brief mention of whumpee being forced to watch their own whump
"What the fuck is that?"
Ophelia smiles. Derian hates her smile more than Nicolas'. At least when Nicolas smiles, it's genuine. He's having fun. Ophelia's is cold, calculating, and sharp. Almost clinical.
"Barbed wire," she says. "It's useful. Keeps the foxes out. Keeps pretty boys tied up."
"Duct tape not doing it for you?" Derian spits.
Ophelia shrugs. "No."
Nicolas laughs. "It's so cute when you try to be mean to us."
He can't faze either of them, no matter how hard he tries. The futility of it all is starting to seep into him.
"Hold him still, Nicky," Ophelia says.
Nicolas grabs Derian with a speed Derian still never expects. The siblings have learned by now that giving him even a moment to react will only make things more difficult for them. There's a purple ring around Nicolas' eye that's still healing.
Ophelia doesn't even hesitate to wrap the wire around Derian's ankles and pull as tightly as she can.
Derian chokes on his scream, but she isn't finished. She brings the wire up to wrap around his wrists, telling Nicolas to pull Derian's arms down slightly. Derian is squirming and struggling by now, breaths coming out as whines, but it's only digging the barbs in deeper, a sharp, puncturing pain.
Nicolas pulls Derian by the hair, forcing his head to tilt back, and Ophelia ties the wire around his throat. She cuts it there.
Then Nicolas throws him onto the floor.
They get to hear him scream, that time, when the barbs are pressed into the side of his neck and the blood starts to pool beneath him. His vision blurs with tears.
"Aw, look, Lia, he's crying," Nicolas grins.
Derian tries to writhe into a painless position, but it's no use. The way it's tied, he can't sit or stand, and he has to lean back in a way he only can due to years of dancing.
No matter what, there's sharp metal piercing his skin.
"Remember to smile," Ophelia says, leaning in so, so close. "You're on camera, pretty boy."
They'll make him watch the tapes later, of him screaming and sobbing in pain, until he's numb, not even caring that he's laying in his own blood.
For now, they leave him. The camera in the top corner of the basement blinks unfeelingly.

Charlie Mars gets the truth out of his head in the glow of the Blackberry Light
By Tad Wilkes
With his new album Blackberry Light, after years writing, recording and touring, Charlie Mars seems to have slipped into a comfortable rhythm. Well, let’s not use the word “comfortable,” a term better strapped to an autopilot Branson theater crooner. Perhaps the more fluid “comfort zone” is better fitting as Mars finds himself, on the road and on his record, resonating what he’s all about.
Oh, and yes, I’m splitting linguistic hairs again; I said, “record.” Blackberry Light is also available on vinyl (pick it up at The End of All Music on North Lamar). Though the album picks up where his last outing Like a Bird, Like a Plane left off, it’s produced by Tchad Blake, whose tip-of-the-iceberg resume abbreviation includes Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt, Richard Thompson, Pearl Jam and Al Green. Warmth and soul abound, with plenty of round edges. And buoyed by the infectious melody and funky clavinet of the album’s “How I Roll,” Mars has clinched a new segment of his growing fanbase, after the song was featured on Weeds, ironically after his split with ex Mary Louise Parker, the show’s star.
Mars just finished a portion of his tour supporting Steve Earle on a string of dates. Now it’s on to new cities, new stages and new songs. Thursday, October 11, the circuit brings the Laurel-raised songwriter back through Oxford, where he’s lived for 13 years, when he performs at Proud Larrys—and gets to spend a night in his own bed before heading back out.
HT: Aside from the sonic textures of your recordings over the years, in what ways do you think your songwriting itself has developed, from your earliest songwriting and what was on Born and Razed (Mars’s first album), and what elements of your current approach have remained constant?
CM: I’m on tour with Steve Earle now. He says my songs are about me. That’s probably been a constant. I’ve tried to make the writing more economical. I pay more attention to the melody than I used to. I think I have a better understanding of what’s not supposed to be there.
HT: How did you come to collaborate with (producer) Tchad Blake, and in what ways did he inject his touch into Blackberry Light in terms of the songs themselves?
CM: I bugged the crap out of him until he agreed to mix the record. I think he liked the music, too, because it wasn’t a huge paycheck for him or anything. He made the songs pop and sound way better. He’s a genius.
HT: I heard a live set of yours on XM recently from a New York show, and one of the last couple of songs was on piano, and you explained that it isn’t on the album. The name of the song escapes me now, but it struck me as quite different from the percussive acoustic style groove you’ve gotten into on the last two albums. Tell me about how the song came to be.
CM: I wrote that song in Austin for the Courtyard Hounds (ex-Dixie Chicks Martie Maguire and Emily Robison) but they didn’t use it on their record. I like it, so I’ve started trying it out live. It’s called “Got to be Blue.”
HT: You’ve said you have to work diligently to stay clear of your “darker self” and that the songwriting process helps you do that. On some material, it sounds like you’re having a conversation with that darker self, as if to catch up on old times. Can you elaborate on what the songwriting process does for you with regard to managing your darker self?
CM: It helps me get my truth out of my head and swimming around somewhere else. I’ve found the worst thing is to hang on to it.
HT: Song placements in television seem to have become important in spreading your work around, including most recently “How I Roll” on Weeds. How have you taken advantage of this area? Do you find that you’re getting new fans and shows from those placements?
CM: I think some of the placements are good for the money, but don’t move the needle much as far as fans or sales. Some of them have a pretty big impact. The Weeds placement was pretty crazy. I can’t believe the response from it. Its really hard to get music out these days, and film and TV placements are a very important piece of that puzzle. They aren’t easy to get, though.
HT: What lessons have you picked up over the years opening for acts such as REM and Steve Earle, about songwriting, touring and life?
CM: Steve Earle told me my job is to write songs. Sometimes I forget that. I’ve been inspired to be better by so many of the acts that I’ve toured with. The guys from REM were so gracious to me. It really made me feel special, and I hope I spread that kindness to other people.
HT: Who are some of your favorite songwriters at the moment, and why?
CM: I really enjoy Rufus Wainwright’s records. He often writes lyrics that interest me. I like his honesty, and he’s a great craftsman. I like Griffin House. He keeps it simple and knocks you out. I’m always listening to Jackson Browne. And the guy from Dawes is good.
HT: What’s the best music live set you’ve been able to catch as a spectator on the road, and why did it move you?
CM: I saw Levon Helm on New Year’s Eve, 2011. It was incredible. He was having voice issues at the time, and nobody knew if he was even going to sing at the Ramble in Woodstock. About half way through the show he started singing. “Ophelia” was incredible.
HT: Why did you decide to reside in Oxford?
CM: I came to Oxford one weekend 13 years ago to visit my brother and never left. What can I say? Its the only place I’ve ever lived since I moved out of my parent’s house that felt like home. I wish the juice bar would open back up though.
Charlie Mars performs at Proud Larrys on October 11, with Adrian Dickey opening the show.

"They don't fit," Derian says, holding the jeans up with his hands.
"Just put them on," Nicolas sighs.
"Can't I have a belt?"
Nicolas sighs again. "I'm not in the fucking mood for this. And no. I don't have any belts."
"How do you not have any?"
"How is it your business?"
Derian rolls his eyes. "You know, you could've just asked me for my size."
"Can you shut the fuck up?" Nicolas slams the door of the closet shut. "I already said I'm not in the mood."
"Can you just get me a belt?" Derian spits back.
Nicolas grabs Derian by the wrist and slams him against the wall. Derian doesn't even have time to ask what the fuck before Nicolas throws him to the floor and wrenches his shoulder out of the socket again.
Something is ignited in Nicolas' eyes. Derian has finally, finally crossed the line with Nicolas, and he doesn't even know what he's done. A small part of him wants to grin and spit at Nicolas just to provoke him a little more, but it's quickly overtaken by the much bigger part of him that hears his ribs crack.
Derian cries out and tries to scramble out from underneath Nicolas, but Nicolas grabs the collar of his shirt and slams him back into the hardwood floor.
"Don't fucking move!" Nicolas snarls.
Nicolas is calm, careful, controlled. Nicolas is beating him to a pulp. Derian can't remember the man ever even punching him. Nicolas doesn't do that, but Derian's body is shuddering with the unsteady rhythm of Nicolas' fists setting deep bruises into his torso.
"S-Stop!" Derian gasps, his free hand frantically pushing at Nicolas, trying to get away. "Nicolas, p-please--!
Nicolas silences him by grabbing him by the hair and slamming his head into the wooden bed frame.
Derian's vision blurs, and he chokes, feeling the blood trickle down his skull. His chest tightens. Suffocating. Derian takes a deep breath, only to have it forced back out of him as Nicolas picks him up and throws him against the wall. It jolts Derian's useless arm and he bites his tongue so hard it bleeds.
"Stay there!"
Derian shuts his eyes and tries to breathe, slow, deep. He's fine. It hurts, but he's fine. They'll leave him alone for a few weeks while he heals from the cracked rib. He can twist this into something good for him, in his mind.
He pushes his tongue against his teeth. None are knocked out of place. They'll put his shoulder back in the socket, and give him ice, and maybe even painkillers if he's lucky. Nothing he doesn't know.
He sucks in a breath. Nicolas isn't back yet. Derian can hear yelling from downstairs. What will it be this time? A knife? He doesn't mind the knife anymore. Heals fast.
It is a knife. Nicolas slams the door open and he's clutching it in his fist. A kitchen knife. Held high. This isn't normal, this isn't-
Nicolas runs at Derian and his heart thuds in his ears.
Derian can't get up, his body is bruised and battered and he can't even think to do anything but scream as Nicolas grabs him by the shirt and tries to drive the knife into him.
"Nicolas!"
It's in his chest, half an inch of the knife is buried in Derian's ribs and he can't breathe, and everything in him is telling him to move and he knows that will make it worse. There's a knife sticking out of his chest. Ophelia's hand is curled tightly around her brother's wrist. There's a knife sticking out of his fucking chest.
"Let go," Ophelia says. Soft. "Nicolas. Don't pull it out, just let go."
Nicolas' fingers shift around the knife. Another scream sticks in Derian's parched throat and it makes his body shake.
"Can't," Nicolas breathes.
"You can," Ophelia says. "Come on."
Nicolas doesn't move, but Ophelia manages to gently pry his fingers from the handle of the knife.
"Derian, stay still," she warns. "Don't touch the knife."
Derian can only whimper in response. It doesn't hurt. Is it the fear? He can feel it. All he can feel. In the tips of his fingers. In his ribs. The knife is sticking out of his chest. Hairs standing on end.
"Breathe in," Ophelia says. "And breathe out. Just like you do with me."
Nicolas grips Ophelia's shoulders and breathes heavily, trying to follow her pattern. Breathes in. Breathes out. Derian does it too. Almost unconsciously. Rise and fall. The knife trembles.
"Go get the first aid kit and the sedatives," Ophelia says.
Nicolas nods, and stumbles out of the room. Ophelia turns to Derian. Something that isn't quite malice in her eyes.
"What did you do?" she asks.
"I d-don't know," Derian rasps. Heart thuds. Can't think. "Nnh… he… he was going to k-kill me. He was going to kill m-me."
Ophelia chews her lip. Doesn't reply. His chest. Knife sticking out. Hurts now. He brings his hand to his mouth and squeezes tightly.
"Give me your wrist." Someone is saying it but he doesn't know who. He feels a needle slip under the skin and then there's nothing.
---
He can hear Nicolas' leg bounce, because the heel of his boot hits the floor in a steady rhythm.
Derian hisses in pain before his eyes even open.
"Don't move around," Nicolas says, voice flat, controlled. "We had to stitch you up. You might rip 'em."
"You stitched…?" Derian presses his head back into the pillow. A pillow. He's lying on a bed. "Nnh. G-Get the fuck away from me."
"Don't get pissy."
"You could've killed me." Derian wants to spit it, but it comes out more like a sob. "You n-nearly fucking killed me."
"Well you're still alive, aren't you?"
"Fuck you."
"I'll rip your stitches out myself if you don't shut your goddamn mouth," Nicolas snaps.
Derian does as he's told. No strength to keep fighting. His head swims. He can feel how close Nicolas is to him and he wants to hide. Fear grips his throat like sharp nails and bruising fingers and Nicolas' citrus cologne. He was never safe, not really, but there was a net. He knew they wouldn't kill him, not yet, not without it being built up so that he was terrified before it happened. The net has been torn apart and it feels like his heartbeat under clumsy stitches.
Heel hits the floor again, again, again. Derian opens his eyes and tries to stare at the wall.
"What… happened?" Derian asks, tentatively. "Y-You just flipped out."
"It was the fucking belts." Nicolas laughs humourlessly. "Dad used to beat me with a belt. He'd make me pick one. Just get me a belt, Nick. You said it like him and I fucking lost it."
Nicolas all but growls the last two words, but something in his tone is almost apologetic. Does he regret it? Derian doubts he'd get a straight answer.
"So yeah. Guess I did almost kill you. Lucky Lia's stronger than me." Nicolas half-smiles. "Couldn't bear to lose ya, pretty boy."
Derian's seen Nicolas with his shirt off, once or twice, and wondered what the lines and indents along his back were. He never asked, of course. But getting the answer makes his slowing heart sink to the bottom of his stomach.
"He beat you?" Derian says, in a quiet voice.
"I'm not exactly in the mood to talk about it, yeah?" Nicolas replies.
Derian knows what it's like. For just a little phrase to make you forget what's happening and where you are and all you know is how badly it hurts and all he can think to say is: "I'm sorry."
Nicolas' eyes flicker upwards. "What?"
"Don't make me say it again," Derian mumbles.
Nicolas furrows his eyebrows. "What're you sorry for?"
"Setting you off like that."
"You do that to Lia all the time," Nicolas shrugs. "Why are you apologising to me?"
"B-Because, it's- it's different-!" Derian grits his teeth. "No, you're right, why the hell am I apologising to you?"
Nicolas grins. Strained, but it's a grin. "Feel bad for me for a moment there?"
"Just a moment," Derian mutters.
