Is leverage redemption worth watching? I love Leverage but idk if i could enjoy the show if hardison isn't in most episodes or if the reboot sells out in some way.
okay so I showed up to this ask like four months late with a smoothie so I'm sorry about that BUT
does redemption have it's flaws? yes, I will be the first to admit that!
however, as someone who deeply loves leverage, the characters and what the show stands for, I still can find myself enjoying redemption.
there's one post that's in my drafts talking about the differences between the og and redemption and the so-called universe physics (how logic works in both shows and how they are the same/differ) and there are definitely some differences. there are some really good posts comparing them in the tags and I'll try to tag them as watch redemption when they come up!
I'm going to be really honest right now and say that (no shade) I feel like redemption s1-2 were lacking because john rogers was not a main writer for them. devlin and the others are great and know their stuff, but redemption was missing some of the grit (balanced with everything else) that the original run had. redemption is more fun and lighthearted (where the og was still fun and had comedic elements but also had a more jaded perspective). I think part of that change is the absence of nate as a character and what he brought to the table, but the other part of that is very much the way the show is written overall
I have seen some criticism about parker being a caricature of what she was in the original run (ex: how she goes to a child's psychologist and uses puppets sometimes, is overtly weird, more loud about stuff, etc) BUT I will say that I think there's some nuance to that
I don't think the child psychiatrist thing is infantalizing- some methods of therapy work for people more than others and that is me speaking as someone who works in mental health. if play therapy and stuff like that work for you as an adult, good for you! whatever works for you is more than enough the overtly and loudly being weird thing I really do think can be taken either way. in the original run part of parker's character progression was that she was learning how to interact with people normally (or at least more efficiently), but her being more out about that now can be taken as she is more comfortable in her skin and acting like she wants because she is surrounded by people who love and support her. maybe she doesn't want to (or have to!) mask all the time and I don't see a problem with that
HOWEVER! there are certain criticisms that are related to her characterizations and overlaps with her autism and I don't want to speak over the autism community about those aspects and how they have manifested in her character in redemption so I'm leaving it there
as for the hardison being absent aspect- I was REALLY afraid of that at first BUT the loss isn't so deeply impactful when you have characters like breanna and harry added to the mix. I went in ambivalent about harry and excited to have breanna (a canon queer) joining the team, but I have come to love and cherish both of them dearly and wouldn't want to replace them or lose them as characters in this found family ensemble. I think the writers handled aldis' packed schedule really well and even though he isn't there in most episodes, his presence is still very much around. parker and eliot talk about him and reference him when he's gone. so do sophie and breanna, even harry. he isn't on the screen but the relationships he's formed with the other characters and the impact he's had on them is very evident.
there are some takes from users about whether or not the ot3 was queerbait, un-canoned, etc in redemption. I have a lot of thoughts about it and a lot of them are incomprehensible but what I can say is that I have renewed hopes for the progression and canon development of their relationship now that john rogers is back as the main writer for s3

Remy's composure is 50% "a bit" but lays it on thick to fuck with anyone who thinks they're better than her. Amber gets the most irritated by it out of anyone, and it's part of why House respects Remy. Remy refuses to let other people claim an inherit superiority to her and will not back down, yet does so in such an emotionally strained way ( and absolutely struggles and has nails that flucuate between fucked up and practically manicured ) that it can slip by in situations other people would have never imagined making such a remark without backlash. Remy's restraint means they often have the emotional final word despite the other person ending with their decisive remark. (also the break up with foreman anywho gtg but ur tags got me thinking)
I so loved reading your thoughts on this. I had some wine so I'm tipsy right now and not the most eloquent with my words, but I wholeheartedly agree! I think her restraint especially is something she'd have worked hard to achieve and would be proud of. It feels like a finely tuned skill-- being able to have the last word without even speaking, without blowing up or melting down or otherwise losing her composure. she probably was not always like that as a child/teenager. I think she probably was a lot more outwardly emotional volatile as a kid (as kids are), but very quickly forced herself to become the opposite because she'd associate outbursts-- physical, emotional, verbal-- with her mom's Huntington's, how she got screamed at, how her mom declined, the strain it had on her family, etc.
And her nails: oh absolutely. I think they're probably either 100% beautifully maintained or 100% a wreck, depending on how stressed she is at any given point. She strikes me as someone who maybe used to bite her nails as an anxious habit as a kid. I think as an adult she'd pick at her nails or cuticles under the table instead (more subtle, easier to hide the stress/strain).
This rocked. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! It made me smile to see my tags sparked some ideas :3

When people talk about courts and law I like to bring up the fact that Target (yes the box store) pays the salary of a twin cities prosecutor, as in a county employee, functioning as a legal hitperson for hire. Known figures who have had this role includes Amy Klobachar (gotta check spelling) MN democrat presidental primary canadite. As well as the leauge of nations the predecessor to the UN established Palestines existance in 1931(?) but it hasnt meant much of anything almost a century later, look at the current state of things in Palestine and tell me that your concept of international law ever existed.

outta curiousity What OS(s) do u use when gaming? Have you ever used nvidia or nouveau drivers on a non debian based distro (or at least not ubuntu derived)? I'm looking to ditch Steam and ubuntu-distros in my gaming set up but am stuck keelhauling a gtx 970 till playing gloomhaven in 4k finally kills it.
Currently running Pop!OS cause their hybrid tiling WM/popShell is the most satisfying easy and efficent to use Window Manager i've ever touched imo and the well rounded support for nvidia cards and their issues has paid off.
I've tried Arch before on a laptop with hybrid intel graphics which was a bitch but works alright still and am considering the pacman, xfce route but fear/dislike the unreliability of rolling releases on my main gaming device. Any advice or thoughts on OSs and WM's for gaming on linux?
970 gang !!!!!!
i daily drive void on my desktop :3 and so far it seems to be handling gaming as good or even better than mint did on the same system.
i understand the unreliability fear of rolling release, but something big like arch is well-tested and mainstream software should have few issues. and bc your system gets updated more often, you don't have the issue of "oh i need a newer version of this package than my repos provide, guess i'm compiling from source" and then that breaks bc it requires a bunch of newer core packages than your system has.
that said, something like nixos could be an option as it provides all those fresh packages but it's easy to roll back an update, and once you get a known good configuration you just need that one config file to reproduce it on a fresh install.
i use nvidia's drivers bc apparently nouveau still sucks for gaming, especially proton/wine, and i don't wanna take the risk testing it on my main rig.
hybrid tiling sounds interesting ! is it like a smart snapping sort of thing ? idk much about it, or other wms that aren't from a strict dynamic or automatic tiling background (i use i3 and quite like it - fullscreen is handled well for games and while some don't like being forced into windowed mode and resized, windowed-mode games can run floating or full-size tiled).
my setup is native linux steam, native linux itch.io, and then all non-native games are run in Bottles, a wineprefix manager. i have prefixes for windows itch.io, epic games, and then a few different one for 'standalone' games i've downloaded. including a wineprefix dedicated to modded bethesda games using mod organiser 2.
sooo ig, you can go the void route if you're okay w/ a distro that has a fairly small main repo, or arch (or artix) if you want a bigger repo and perhaps more mainstream support, or nixos if you're interested in trying something different - though i haven't tried to game on that yet. and then i would recommend sticking to nvidia's proprietary driver, native game managers (repo or flatpak doesn't matter) and bottles for running via WINE. soda is one of many wine runners shipped w/ bottles based on valve's wine w/ all their proton patches applied and it works great for most things.
i hope this long answer helps at least a little !! and good luck gaming <3 <3

Have you ever managed to emulate/run ps3 games with your gtx 970? Mine can't seem to manage it beyond a title screen at best and am wondering if any other people have managed it on this card
hmmn i've not tried it but i may look into it at some point - like it could be anything from not powerful enough (rip but hopefully it's not that) to driver weirdness or like issues w/ the particular emulator ????
if it try it i'll be sure to let you know !

It would be awesome if wound up making a lil post once u've tried qtile and the other wms i'm very curious to know your thoughts as an i3 user!
ye I definitely plan to !!! I've used herb a little on my laptop just while I'm downloading and configuring all the others and I think I'll enjoy that one even if it has its quirks.
idk how long it'll take me overall to try all of them but there might be a post in the new year ?
