Just wondering what posts exactly got your blog Big?
I followed you because of interesting Wales stuff, which I doubt is why most people followed you if your follower base is indeed big enough for it to cause you problems.
Well, it all started with a walrus, and then it was the Clowns in Power and their illegal tea parties. I solidly pick up chunks of followers each time I make certain specific posts - when I posted about my terrible Skyrim potions, for example, I got a few hundred, and I pick up a hundred or so each Christmas as the Mari Lwyd does the rounds. But the thousands and thousands came from the walrus and the clown show
Generally I don't think it's my actual followers that cause the problems, per se (although I imagine some do, there are so many!) I think it's more that my reach these days is much wider. Bad faith actors who don't know at all who I am are much more likely to see stuff I write now, because any given post spreads further. It's not so bad though, I have no fear of the block and delete buttons and if a post is extremely not sparking joy in its responses I turn off reblogs.
Not even extremely, actually - I asked that question the day before yesterday about US universities and got a lot of responses, which was great! But no one checks the notes of posts like that to see if the answer has already been given. So now the responses have long since become the same lengthy explanation with the same info and it's clogging up my notes (hilariously I did reply to it saying "Thank you everyone, this has now been answered", and it actually increased the number of people giving me that same lengthy answer. This is because humans like sharing their personal experiences. No shade at all, it's just inconvenient when you're the OP lol.) So, I'll probably turn off reblogs for that one today.
I do miss the small follower count though. It was a less stressful experience. My reach was limited to people who didn't intentionally misread me and weren't fucking unhinged, so I could say things like "I think dark purple text on a black background is not very readable for my eyes" and not get told I have covid-induced brain damage or told to fuck off by three thousand people in the tags, you know? Good times. I need to find the digital equivalent of rent-lowering gunshots

I'm new to Tumblr. How do Tumblr users usually engage with each other?
well first of all welcome haha. the main ways to engage with people are:
liking and reblogging. platforms like instagram and tiktok run on likes and an algorithm, but on tumblr, people almost exclusively use their dashboard and turn off suggested content, so they’re only seeing what people actually reblog onto their dash. that’s why people on this site are so adamant about reblogs, because likes basically do nothing. i saw someone say once that anything you would like on a different social media, you should reblog on here, and i totally agree. and don’t worry about how old a post is, or about reblogging something you’ve previously reblogged. there are posts from 2014 that i regularly see on my dash a decade later, so literally don’t feel awkward, it’s 100% normal to engage with old posts.
tags. there are three main ways tags are used: labeling original content so people find it in searches, internal organization systems when reblogging or posting (for instance, many people have a tag for their original posts, and will tag reblogs by fandom or character or whatever - important note that reblogs do not show up in search results), and to make sotto voce comments on a post. it’s normal for people to make jokes, add their own commentary, ramble about something semi relevant, or say something to op in the tags on posts they reblog.
reblog additions. every time you reblog, you have the chance to add something to the post, which unlike tags will be retained when someone reblogs from you. a good rule of thumb is to comment instead of tagging when it’s something you actually want other people to engage with, as opposed to tags where you’re just kind of expressing yourself lol. don’t be surprised however if you see people’s tags getting screenshotted and added to a reblog. if this happens because the screenshotter likes what the tag writer said, it’s jokingly referred to as “passing peer review.” (and of course people screenshot tags to criticize or mock them as well.) essentially, tags are like being at a big group dinner and saying something to the person next to you as an aside, and then sometimes that person goes “hey everyone listen to this”
post comments. there’s also an option on every post (unless op has turned it off) for people to comment on the post itself, not on a specific reblog. mostly this is useful for talking to people on personal posts or posts with reblogs turned off. on a bigger post, just reblog it and put your thoughts in an addition or tag.
asks. seems like you figured this one out! lmao. asks are used for a wide variety of things, but essentially it can either be a prompt for someone to make a post or a way of having an interaction/conversation with someone without dming them.
dms. these work like dms everywhere else, except the functionality is limited and it kinda sucks.
games. there are also many varieties of games that people play with each other, ranging from ask games (things like “rec me some music” or a post with prompts and people send you some from that list), tag games (typically there are questions you answer then you tag other people to fill them out for themselves) handwriting tags, follow chains, giveaways, name/url playlists, and more. with the addition of polls, brackets have gotten popular too (eg the tumblr sexyman bracket). there also used to be a lot of in-character ask blogs, where a user would set up a blog and roleplay as a specific character that people could send questions to (there still are some but way fewer and way less popular than there used to be)
to be honest i feel like i have to put “discourse” and “drama” on this list too. people on this site loveeee having the most insane arguments of all time and then everyone else memes the hell out of it. google “sonic for real justice” for an example lmao. (of course there’s also very unfunny political and fandom discourse that goes on as well. i would advise you to avoid discourse blogs as a general rule regardless of whether you agree with their position or not)
tagging people. you can also @ people in posts you think they’d like or if you feel like they have relevant input. typically this is something you would do either to people you’ve spoken to before, or a big blog with an established persona and rapport with their followers (eg if you follow a blog about snakes and you see a random post with snake info that seems wrong but you’re not sure, so you tag them to ask for their expertise).
and this isn’t a specific “mode” of communication but it’s also a thing to “interpret” (for lack of a better word) other people’s posts. for instance, people drawing a photo from the original post (i cant find it but there was a post going around recently where op posted an aesthetic photo of an egg cooking and then several people painted it), or people trying/recreating something a post was about (example). it was also a thing for a minute there where people would rewrite funny exchanges as shakespearean dialogue
those are all the ways i can think of, although im sure i’ve missed some (if other people think of any pls add on!). good luck, and i hope you’re able to meet some cool people!

Last reblog - this is a huge part of why fandom is often so frustrating, IMO. Fandom (generalized) rather than a specific one. Because storytelling SHOULD be useful as the OP described there, for purposes of character study, understanding what would lead characters to make certain choices, what certain choices would say about them, etc, etc.....but too often that kind of analysis gets derailed from the jump by people not interested in storytelling as a study or a journey but rather investing in characters and thus defending/demonizing them for the choices they make from the word go, based on how much they initially appeal to the fan or are relatable to the fan.
And that's sooooo.....rawr inducing, to make a mockery of this post and the sincerity with which I am attempting to imbue it, lol, because just for example, it makes it virtually IMPOSSIBLE to accurately analyze the character trajectory of someone who is initially written with specific flaws like a focus on their own problems before progressing to being a character focused on others.....because detractors of the character don't CARE that their initial actions were written as the first steps of a deliberate journey, and launch right into using them to tear down the character regardless of context. Think Teen Wolf and how many of the diatribes about its main character are regularly pulled from THE VERY FIRST EPISODES of a six season show.....of COURSE the character's initial actions aren't going to be as ideal as those he makes six seasons in....they're not MEANT to be. To show a character growing and changing, you have to give them a start point they can grow and change FROM.
BUT.
At the exact same time....we also have the total inverse of this phenomenon when fans go hard on the defense of anyone with any form of a redemption arc and insist that their later actions render their initial ones not just recontextualized but just 'fully redeemed/forgiven' and thus can no longer be held against them, which also is not how this works lol.
And then on TOP of that, we have the additional phenomenon of writers who are umm, shall we say, not the most aware when it comes to what they're layering in as the initial start point of their character on their 'destined to grow and change journey,' with the writers so focused on their eventual endpoint and who the character WILL become that they fail to take into account when they're putting in place character choices & actions that will turn many people off this character entirely, long before the character gets to that 'better' phase of their character journey.
Anyway. Didn't want to add on top of that last reblog because the point they were making was salient and there is of course always potential for storytelling as character study.....but its just really frustrating to witness over and over all the ways in which fandoms just WILL NOT LET THAT HAPPEN....as well as how many writers/productions sabotage their own attempts at such a thing by just being willfully or naively oblivious to the implications of various specifics they write into their character journeys.

hi, i can tell some of my followers are from twitter, so here's some tips:
LIKING a post increments the note counter and lets the original poster know you saw the post.
liking art is appreciated, but does not get more people to see it. liking vent posts is also a way of nonverbally patting someone on the back / nodding along sympathetically. likes basically just give the original poster the info that you saw their post and felt the need to interact with it in some way but didn't have anything to add and didn't want to share it.
REBLOGGING is the main verb of this site. the etiquette is hard to nail down for newbies, and i think it's the second hardest thing to grasp for a lot of people.
reblogging is extremely important. if you do not reblog posts, the posts will not be shared, and there is no other efficient way to spread posts. your dashboard is populated by people you follow (if you have every algorythmic recommendation turned off, which is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to curate your experience; those who use tumblr regularly and have for years have "based on your likes" and "best stuff first" turned off) and if you do not populate your followers' dashboards then they will not have any reason to follow you. they cannot see posts you have liked on their dashboards.
if you do not reblog posts and only like posts, you will be assumed to be a bot and blocked. even if there's evidence you are a person, going through someone's whole blog and reblogging absolutely nothing while spam liking for a half hour straight may very well also get you blocked. every like shows up on the op's feed AND in the blog you're browsing's feed. be polite!
when you comment on a post in the main post body while reblogging (not in tags or in replies), that comment will stick to the post and be seen when others reblog it. it's considered rude to add a comment to the main post body without having something meaningful to add, whether it be a joke, more information, or continuing a discussion. commenting something like "yes, lol" adds clutter to OP's notes and the notes of whoever you reblogged from, and others down the reblog chain will have to manually remove your junk comment.
be kind! reblog! share! there are other ways to comment on posts, like...
REPLYING which is an alternate way to get your comments to stick to a post semi-invisibly.
everyone who opens the notes can see your reply, like when you open replies on twitter, but it won't show up attached to the post, like twitter. this also pings the op and the person whose blog you left the reply on. it's useful for questions or conversations that you want to have but don't want on your blog! it's great to add feedback to a post without sharing it.
THE TAGS are the most difficult part of tumblr culture to grasp for a lot of people.
tags can be used as organizational tools (for instance, categorizing pictures or fandom posts or your own posts) and can be browsed either exclusively on your blog or globally. if you put organizational tags like #photo on a reblogged post, it will not show up in the global tags, but will show up when you look at the #photo tag on your blog. if the post is original and not reblogged, the post will show up both in global tags and in your blog's tag, so if you search #photo on either your blog or the search function, it'll show up.
however... tags are the primary way people comment on posts. it is a tidy way to say "lol" or "OH MY GOD???" or make a small, potentially funny quip that you don't want to stick to the main post. commenting in tags is customary and will make you look more like a local. if the post is funny, it's normal to say in the tags "i snorted" or "i am on the FLOOR" or something like that. you can say pretty much any comment in the tags as long as it's broken up between multiple different ones.
if you want someone to know how much you appreciate their art, leave a comment in the tags and the op will see it! your tags also show up in the notes of the person you reblogged from, so, for example, if you wanna say hi, you can say "hi [friend's name]" and they will see it in their activity. (i recommend using DMs for this though, lol)
if you never ever talk in the tags and never ever make your own posts, people will have no clue who you are and will have no clue what you think or what you want to create. if you enjoy that, then go ahead! but talking in tags is how you make your blog your own without your comment sticking on others' reblogs. it's also a way to mumble under your breath on your own posts, make little additions that people can see on the original post but not on reblogs!
i recommend really trying to get to know how to talk in tags instead of adding comments directly to posts you'd like to share. it helps everybody!
aaand that's all i've got

Random tumblr hacks and info:
if you are on mobile, you can fast queue or fast reblog by holding down the queue or reblog button and then swiping up to the little icon of your blog (if you have sideblogs, they'll show up as options.)
if you're on desktop, you can fast queue by holding down W and clicking the reblog button (it should turn pink when you press W) or fast reblog by holding down E and clicking reblog (should turn blue.)
you can edit tags now on desktop -- not on mobile yet, but if you make a typo in a tag on desktop, you can click into the tag and edit it directly instead of having to retype the whole thing
similarly, on desktop you can rearrange tags before posting by grabbing the # and dragging the tag into place. Can't do this on mobile. Yet.
You can blacklist both tags AND post content. In your settings, you can block any post that has, say #tarantulas in the tags, but if you REALLY don't want to see any of that you can add "tarantula" and "tarantulas" to your blocked content list as well.
op's tags are persistent. So if the original poster tagged it with #tw blood, you don't have to worry about tagging it before you reblog. It'll carry through. However it has to be OP, not the secondary person you reblogged from, and this doesn't apply to tags on reblogs. Those are just for you and your followers.
Only the first ~5 tags on your post are searchable on the site. Anything after that is fair game for subvocalizing, adding your own commentary, or screeching over lovely art.
The search function is garbage. But you can go to your blog and add "/tagged/tarantulas" to the end of the URL to (in theory) show (most of) the posts that have that.
A great way to edit tags (or find posts with specific tags when tumblr fails you) is tags.circumfluo.us/. This site is invaluable. You can search any tag you've used and replace it -- or click the hyperlink to go straight to the post. Did you just realize you've been tagging Martyn Inthelittlewood as Martin this whole time? That's your salvation right there.
You can make your posts unrebloggable and/or un-reply-to-able in the settings when you make the post (little gear menu at the top) and you can edit them to change those factors after posting.
Don't bother to edit a post once enough people have reblogged it: the one they reblog will remain as it was when they reblogged it, and anyone who reblogs from them will get that copy. You can change the original, but there's not much point as once it's out the gate there's no getting that horse back to fix a typo. (however, this can be used for jokes and bits. just don't bother doing it to actually FIX something lol)
save your brain and turn off infinite scrolling
Also turn off "recommended for you," "in your circles," and any other recommended posts, as well as setting your dashboard to reverse-chronological.
blocking means nothing. no one will be offended. do it liberally, it's freeing and very good for your mental health.
Your blog is your bedroom. Decorate it and make it nice. There's a million themes out there, but a good place to start is @theme-hunter -- this site still lets you directly edit the code of your theme, so go nuts.
You can turn off notification/message sounds in the settings. Do it. Save your sanity.
If you go to a blog's ask page, messages are limited to 500 characters. If you hover over their username in your dash, click the little meatball menu, and click "Ask" there is no character limit.
if you use the tag #tumblr, you'll get a phantom like on your post XD
There's no way to turn off notifications for something after you've posted it. Sadly. So if you have something blowing up your notes and you want to keep it but you DON'T want the notifications, reblog it once at a quiet time so not too many people reblog it from you again... and then delete the original post. Everyone who reblogged it still has it, it's just not sending you mail anymore.
There's a few more but this post is getting long so I'm just going to link the official tumblr "Lesser-Known Features" article

So a few things. Do you actually get off to these? It get's you horny and twitching in the right places? Idk, I just find it kinda weird. Dont get me wrong. I LOVE IT. LOVE YOU. I think you must be the most interactive and someone who seems like they answer all ask, dms, reblogs and quotes on their post. And I admire that level of engagement. The dedication. I made the mistake of coming into tumblr while working, (I share an office) and I have a massive boner, can't really move, even gotta be careful with how I breathe because these suit pants are kinda tight. And I just feel the pre-cum building up there. Im leaving this shite as soon as I send this.
UNGH. I honestly find you so attractive. I want to have you follow my main blog and my porn blog and just chat you up and stuff. But I'm afraid Id turn it sexual like 2 out of 3 times, my libido is insane.
Yeah. Much love. Office, shower, and now bed anon. What can I say, kinda obsessed with you.
A few things myself!
1. Yes. Rape threats, stories, even pics get me all riled up. What can I say? I have quite the vivid imagination and I guess I'm just incredibly horny by nature.
2. Bless you for that, sincerely. I may not get to everyone and it's by sheer accident, but I really do try my best. Sometimes I'm overwhelmed and I take a bit to respond, or try to warn that my DMs are off (which they are currently), but I always feel so guilty. I know what it's like not to be responded to.
3. You did make a terrible mistake if you share an office, ope 💀 I do it often though LOL but I wfh. ...A massive boner in suit pants, huh? Pre cum? That you can't breathe without them tightening-? ...mm. The image. Annnd you say you're obsessed? You're spoiling me here. 👀
You're my office anon, yes? I'd follow you if you told me. <3
PS I use tumblr solely for sexual use. I'd be disappointed if conversation didn't turn sexual lmao (with the exception of one very nice moot who only sends me adorable cat pics, if u see this ily).

I see people share screenshots of posts that have reblogs turned off and I’m not sure how to feel about it. So I’m curious about what other people think.
Is it better if the screenshot includes or does not include the OP’s username? Because on one hand it gives credit bc the person reposting did not make it, but on the other hand the OP turned reblogs off and clearly doesn’t want it circulating anymore. And people may go and send messages to the OP harassing them for turning reblogs off on the original post or something like that. So maybe it’s better to crop their name out and just let it be a sort of anonymous post. Or maybe it’s just 100% wrong to repost those things lol.

it is amazing how people will see a poll with reblogs turned off that they are completely unable to interact with because the poll itself was deleted from the OP and still think it is so imperative to log their resonse that they will post it in the replies with a “for some reason the poll won’t let me vote LOL” as if i care

People in the notes of the ash vs Dracula post acting like I should be scared of it going viral. Fools, I've been on Tumblr for years. The library comic is still going nuts. I know what I'm about and I'm not afraid of the TRUTH
Also there's a turn off reblogs button now so if it does end up getting annoying I have the power to shut that shit down lol. You have no power over me.
Actually though i do hope if op of the original referenced post sees it they know I'm just being silly and having fun just like I am sure they are doing and I have no hard feelings towards them whatsoever. I made my own post specifically so I wouldn't be annoying to op so I hope op knows I think their blog is so funny and they should keep doing it and making whatever conclusions they want

Tagged by @watercolor-hearts, I'm actually surprised someone remembers my @ to tag me in these! quite heartwarming tbh, thank you lovely, hope you have a nice day/evening/morning 🤗💙
Name: my true name starts with a. m. but since i'm a person on the verge of mixing reality w/ virtual i rather be just called goggles lmao (not to be too vague, my second one is miguel, a quite common latino name, but the first one is quite unusual and it feels too real to be called like that so im hiding it lol)
Sign: Leo (i copied from the op who tagged me and yes this is my sign as well)
Time: 19:16 (i definetely spent too much time elaborating and correcting my own answers lmao)
Favourite band/artist: the short version or the long one? cause honestly im kind of into music as a whole, but to select just a few, i'd say Fiona Apple, Joanna Newsom, Beyoncé and Björk. yep, all ladies, dont ask me why but i just connect with female vocalists more
Last movie: ooh.. this one is quite been some time actually... i think it was Knives Out: Glass Onion! just a little bit of silly fun entertainment and cause i was honestly curious cause i liked watching the 1st knives out.
Last show: Drive to survive 🤷‍♂️ im not a very series person tbh (even dts i only watched the eps i actually was curious about lmao)
When I created this blog: this kind of has 2 answers idk. because this used to be a ziam - yes you read that right - a ziam blog lmao but i didnt put much thought into it tho. then i just stopped using for years, and i just came 2 months ago back to delete it and replace with this actual blog cause i discovered the charlos side of tumblr and wanted to interact w the blogs i discoveeed, reblog and all that jazz.
Other blogs: other than the one i deleted, no, i just have this active blog.
Do I get asks: no i turned them off lol but i dont mind actually i get kind of peaceful thinking im just a dot in this vast virtual world of internet, at least here
Followers: 125 accs (i guess, i dont check bots but i dont think there are too much of them)
Average hours of sleep: i guess it varies on 6-8? there are days a sleep a little bit later but tbh i dont keep track of these lol but i can tell i've been pretty okay with my schedule lately, at least my insomnia stopped
Instruments: nope. i have a shitty keyboard but i just gave up on learning, but i do plan on trying again, just dont know when
What I am wearing: green shorts and an ugly printed but comfortable t shirt
Dream job: i mean, it says dream job... so i might go full in... singer/songwriter 🤓
Dream trip: actually i'm not really obsessed about trips anymore... but if i had to pick one i'm just saying Madrid cause its where carlos jr was born 🤓 (i still want to go there and investigate in person to find his official time of birth btw, so yep im picking madrid)
Favorite song atm: i have a lot of songs being my faves simultaneously and it changes fast depending on the moments/moods but im going with In California by Joanna Newsom cause the chorus when she sings "cuckoo cuckoo" its freaking amazing tbh. for my more upbeat side tho i'm picking Those Eyes, That Mouth by cocteau twins.
Tagging:@leclercsbf and @leoramage (tagging you two cause you were the ones to start a conversation w me so i think it wouldn't be too awkward lol but hey, feel free to ignore if you dont want to or dont like these, no hard feelings, were just dots in a virtual space)
(ps: i was actually very defensive about these kind of posts but i tried this one for fun and hey it is fun! it was kind of cool to talk about myself freely without my face or name plastered on it so thanks for that, person who tagged me)

With the way I queue things, sometimes I encounter posts that, between the time I queued it to the time it's scheduled to go up, reblogs get turned off.
And hmmmmmm.
I'm not sure if it'd still post. I'm also not against deleting the queued reblog if it seems like OP isn't a jerk or anything. I'm not gonna judge their reason for turning off replies or reblogs or whatever, so I don't mind respecting their non-reblogging wishes.
But still. I'm gonna leave it in there for now. Maybe they'll turn reblogs back on, lol.
