The London Symphony Orchestra: Tommy (1972)

Released in a hardboard slipcase with an inner embossed gatefold sleeve. Enclosed is a 28-page 11"x11" full-color booklet. "Story of Tommy" and appearance info, lyrics, and credits. Panels have color artwork and pinball machine-related photos depicting the story.

The title on the spine of the case: "Tommy as performed by the London Symphony Orchestra and Chambre Choir with Guest Soloists"

In 2014, I bought a box of records. As I always do, I went through every LP and searched for it on DISCOGS in order to either update an entry or add a new release to the database.

When I pulled out this Carole King record, a newspaper clipping dropped out. One of the things I like to do when I find a record with some identifiable personal info is to hit the interwebs to try to locate the person and then offer to send the record free of charge.

In this case, I didn’t uncover happy news.  Mr. Rigazio passed away very young from cancer about 13 years prior to me finding this clipping.  I think I found his wife, Sandra, through a church in New Hampshire, but my research led me to believe she had fallen on difficult times. I emailed the church and offered to send the LP with the wedding announcement, but I never heard back.

This specific Carole King LP, released in 1975, obviously held a special meaning for Sandra, as she had placed the neatly folded newspaper clipping inside the jacket. I assume this was Sandra’s LP, of course, because not many young dudes in the mid-70s were listening to Carole King.

You never know when your time will come, so be sure to have fun while you can.

Edit: okay I have been informed it was a multimedia post called "The Prison."
