Biological entities called obelisks have been hiding – in large numbers – inside the human mouth and gut. These microscopic entities, which were recently discovered by a team at Stanford University, are circular bits of genetic material that contain one or two genes and self-organise into a rod-like shape. Although the study is still in preprint form, meaning that it has not been peer-reviewed, it has already been extensively written about, including in two heavyweight journals: Nature and Science.

Luxor Temple, Egypt The Luxor Obelisks are a pair of ancient Egyptian obelisks, over 3,000 years old, carved to stand on either side of the portal of the Luxor Temple in the reign of Ramesses II. The right-hand stone, 23 meters high, was moved in the 1830s to the Place de la Concorde in Paris, France, while the left-hand obelisk remains in its location in Egypt. Photo by: Yann Arthus-Bertrand

A horror that hides until you stop thinking about it, and then gets bigger
It draws up into the width of a thread and can come down through the narrowest opening
It melts you with lava
Better to don’t not think about it, I think.

B R I A L L E N 🛡
the current captain of the hewn city guard, very few dragons recalled his bookish youth. once, he had wanted to be a historian, a tome guardian and lore keeper in a city nestled between the hewn city and the daylight sanctum. his dearest friend had been a hewn patrol member, and it was her disappearance that shifted his life's path. he picked up the blade, and his knowledge of the history of the area only sharpened that steel. he has risen in rank to leading and organizing the patrols. he has not found his friend, but his determination persists.
