These houses were all built between 1850 and 1875. It's hard to get a good sense of how small they are. They kind of remind me of the creepy old houses in Uzumaki.

Hi! Hope you're well :) weird question maybe, but how is it moving to Denmark and living there as a foreigner? I've been a couple times, loved the country and am thinking of maybe moving there. Are people welcoming? I've have great experience there, but I've heard from others that it may be hard to make friends/know new people, and I'd be moving there on my own so that's kinda something I'd need 😆 thanks for all the great content!
yo!
my feelings on denmark are complicated. before anything else, i love it here. the climate and culture (generally speaking) are just about perfect for what i want out of life. there's very little emphasis on hierarchy and a good balance between collectivistic and individualistic values. this is a great country for a queer person to live in. taxes are high, but i find that that's a very small price to pay for free healthcare, education, and subsidized childcare among other things.
as a foreigner... eh. the first thing to keep in mind is that denmark has some of the strictest immigration rules in europe, so if you're looking to move here, make sure you look into whether it's a realistic venture. a lot of people (especially those with danish spouses) actually move to sweden and commute to copenhagen from there because sweden's rules are less uh... tyrannical. lol.
and there are other issues, of course. i miss diversity a lot. there's a racism issue that very few people seem to want to engage with or even acknowledge. i love the summers because the days are so long but the winters are so so so dark.
as far as if people are welcoming or not, it's kind of a mixed bag. my experience is colored by the fact that i came here via marriage to a native dane who already had his social network (and i also don't really need many friends/social interaction). i think, personally, unless you were going to university, it can be very hard to make friends without an in-road. it's not that danes aren't friendly, because they definitely can be (particularly in nordjylland, where i live), but they often stick with the connections they had from childhood. they aren't really looking for friends past that.
that being said, i think once you truly manage to make friends with a dane, you have one for life.
that's not to be a hater entirely. obviously every country has its own problems. but if you're thinking of moving here (particularly as a poc), i would keep these things in mind. i've lived here for years now. i speak the language fluently. i would consider myself well-integrated.
but i think i'll always be considered a foreigner in denmark, even if i get citizenship someday.
all that being said, if you do end up here, drop me a line. there's a guest room in aalborg for you, if you'd like. <3
