On Thursday, after teasing a massive announcement the day before, former President Donald Trump unveiled a series of $99 "trading card" nonfungible tokens, or NFTs — images of himself backed by cryptocurrency technology.
The announcement was widely mocked — however, one slightly less discussed detail is the nature of the company making the cards.
It isn't Trump's campaign, nor is it the Trump Organization. Rather, it is a mysterious entity known as CIC Ventures, which, according to Ken Bensington of The New York Times, has a lot of overlap with Trump.
"The company that licensed Trump's image and likeness for the $99 NFT trading cards appears to be one founded in 2021 by former Trump advisor Nick Luna and current Trump lawyer John Marion," wrote Bensington on Twitter. "Its mailing address is the same as the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach."
"Little is known about CIC, but a little digging shows that a manila folder seized from Mar-a-Lago by the FBI in August was marked 'Serio Contract' and contained a contract with CIC Ventures and Gold Ventures, per a federal court filing," Bensington continued.
Even some Trump supporters grumbled about the NFT announcement, complaining that the cards on offer were "worthless" and a "scam."
This comes as Trump has suffered setbacks with his 2024 campaign launch, with some polls indicating he is losing the lead among the Republican base to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis — which Trump took to his Truth Social platform to rail against this week.

Will Gaming NFTs make money at Prom (PROM)?
Will Gaming NFTs make money at Prom (PROM)?
Prom (PROM) is an attempt to cash in gaming NFTs (nonfungible tokens). An NFT is a contract stored in the blockchain. To elaborate, the contract represents its holder’s ownership in an asset. Hence, you can think of an NFT as a digital title deed. The NFT conveys ownership in digital assets just as deeds and titles convey ownership in physical assets. A gaming NFT provides access to game apps…

Let's learn about NFT! (Learn how to invest)
Let’s learn about NFT! (Learn how to invest)
What is NFT? NFT? It is called Non-Fungible Token. Previously, it was possible to duplicate picture files, video files, and audio files, but each of them has its own unique characteristics. Currently, developers are issuing and selling NFTs through an activity called Minting. These NFTs are generally increasing their value by passing discounts, services, mining, rights, etc. to the…

Because people are legitimately buying WOTC’s statement about “we are doing this to prevent NFTs”, please let me remind you that Hasbro (the parent company, which is the one that made WOTC actually pull this stuff in the first place because they want to milk the cash cow) has made NFTs before. They are okay with NFTs.
It’s, however, very convenient to ask people to not do NFTs with their IP. I doubt that at this point they are planning to release them themselves, given how NFTs have lost popularity, but it is a fantastic buzzword that people are buying into.
It’s the same stuff with bigoted content. WOTC may oppose extremely bigoted content because, at this point, it doesn’t sell as well. You can’t get away with some extreme right wing stuff without raising red flags. But other than the most extreme examples, they are not doing any of these moves out of “preventing hateful content”, as much as they are (again) using another buzzword because people love to buy into it.
Minorities have been pointing for ages about many of the things that WOTC has done terribly in regards of hateful content, stereotypes and racism (some of them as recent as 2022), and people have been conveniently ignoring them. I think overall a lot of the community does a terrible job at listening at minorities when it comes to them bringing up that their favourite company of choice is doing some questionable stuff (and this happens a lot around the DnD community, specially).
I have said it before, I am of Romani descent. I am still waiting WOTC to actually do something about the Vistani, which is a god-awful stereotypical representation reducing an entire culture to “colorful drunkards and criminals that curse you”. WOTC does not care about inclusivity or avoiding hateful content. They just want to have the ability to pull the trigger on content using the OGL at will. Notice how they didn’t even bother to define what does all of that actually mean.
And pay attention to what content creators are saying too. It’s getting kind of exhausting that people who barely engage with the hobby and haven’t ever created anything for it have been trying to dismiss this entire issue and calling OGL 1.2 a victory, despite how it has not fixed anything.

Bitcoin Inscriptions: Security Flaw Flagged as Cybersecurity Risk by NVD
Tumblr media
The National Vulnerability Database (NVD) has raised concerns about a security flaw in Bitcoin's inscriptions, which was exploited in 2022 and 2023 by a protocol called Ordinals. This vulnerability allows data to be hidden as code in certain versions of Bitcoin Core and Bitcoin Knots. The NVD is a database managed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which highlights cybersecurity risks for public awareness.
This vulnerability could have a significant impact on the Bitcoin network. It may lead to an influx of non-transactional data flooding the blockchain, causing network congestion, slower processing times, and increased fees. Bitcoin Core developer Luke Dashjr raised the issue on X (formerly Twitter), comparing it to receiving junk mail that slows down the process of finding important messages.
Ordinals, a protocol introduced in late 2022, made data embedding more popular in Bitcoin. It allowed unique digital arts to be directly embedded into Bitcoin transactions, similar to nonfungible tokens (NFTs) on the Ethereum network. However, the volume of Ordinals transactions has led to network congestion and increased fees. If the vulnerability is patched, it could restrict Ordinals inscriptions on the network, potentially affecting the existence of Ordinals and BRC-20 tokens. Existing inscriptions, however, would remain due to the immutability of the network.
