god i need to finish the gay mike analysis. and also i should be finished that one big anon ask response about how the idea that mike being gay takes more time to wrap up in s5 than mike being any other sexuality would isn’t true and how the opposite is actually true and how the buildup for gay mike has been there the entire time, theyve been telling this story the ENTIRE TIME and how gay mike immediately recontextualizes both the mike-el scenes in a platonic light (something that WAS intended because theres no reason for the familial parallels to exist except to parallel mike and el’s relationship to platonic ones and indicate that it’s always been platonic. like they literally have their first kiss after talking about being brother and sister. we are shown mr clarke at the snow ball specifically, somebody who thinks that El is mike’s cousin. it’s not that milkvan is equivalent to incest its that the duffers have been beating us with a ‘mike was never attracted to el and their bond has always been platonic’ stick since s1) AND recontextualizes the byler scenes in a possibly romantic light. 

  Mike being gay doesn’t need any extra longwinded explanation and flashback to every mike-el scene because it immediately recontexualizes them in one swoop. if mike isnt gay/was ever attracted to el, then they have to go back and pinpoint when he stopped being attracted to her and explain why it happened and explain the familial parallels and what on earth those were supposed to indicate. maybe if people weren’t so hung up on comparing mike to will and using will as the blueprint for gay men and their experiences and invalidating mikes experiences and sexuality due to will’s experiences, they could see that. they could see that this storyline has been built the ENTIRE TIME and so doesnt need any longwinded explanation in s5. but alas. anyway i  have more to say: 

like idk about you but imo ‘mike is gay and was never attracted to el’ literally aligns with and is backed up by the story we’ve been seeing this entire time and  is way easier to explain compared to having to explain ‘so yeah we thought that the direct brother-sister comparison and the parallels and comparisons of el to nancy and the parallels of mike to el’s father figures would be a great way to demonstrate romantic attraction and telling a story of falling out of love with someone and those parallels were meant to just uh. idk. show attraction because everyone’s attracted to their family right? that’s the best way to demonstrate attraction and isnt weird at all right?’ literally the ONLY feasible explanation is that the familial parallels represent a platonic bond from the start. like again i don’t think that milkvan is like incest or that that was the intention. i think the intention was to demonstrate a platonic bond via those parallels. but if mike WAS ever attracted to el, than what IS the purpose of those parallels if not a platonic bond? there isnt one, because mike was never attracted to el. 

  like the thing is, it cant even just be brushed away by ‘oh its about mike being paralleled to brenner and hopper bc hes another male figure in her life trying to define her’ because while that is true, its not the whole reason because it ignores the fact that el is also paralleled CONSTANTLY to mike’s sister and to HIS family. the familial parallels go both ways. el’s paralleled to mike’s sister repeatedly. even just through the milkvan/stancy parallels and even outside of that. and like i’ve talked about before, we can conclude that the ‘pretty’ scene is 100% not mean to indicate attraction, REGARDLESS of whether or not you think mike was ever attracted to el, that scene 100% does not hold up as proof of attraction because it’s framed alongside the scene of mike agreeing that NANCY is ‘pretty’. thinking someone is pretty does not equal attraction esp not in ST and if you think that it does then you think that mike is attracted to his sister. like sorry sure try and pull other evidence even though imo none of it holds up, but that piece/scene was 100% not meant to indicate romantic attraction in any way. thinking someone is pretty CAN indicate attraction it can be PART of it but doesnt automatically indicate attraction, especially not when it’s literally paralleled to a platonic, familial bond (mike and nancy) and also LITERALLY  PARALLELED TO ELLIOT AND E.T??? 

 so yeah anyway if mike is gay, the duffers have to explain:

 1.) that mike never romantically loved or was attracted to el (something that has already been demonstrated in the show from the start via the familial parallels, mike’s reactions to her affection, how he initiates affection less and less and becomes more uncomfortable with receiving it as el starts to look more and more stereotypically ‘feminine’ and a million other things im gonna talk abt in my big writeup if people have been paying attention throughout the show). this is also addressed in one foul swoop by gay mike bc if mike was never attracted to/loved any girls 

 2.) that mike did love will from the beginning and is attracted to him (something that’s also already been demonstrated in the show and im gonna talk about HOW its been demonstrated when i finish that big anon ask response but esp through things like the early el-will parallels w her being mistaken for him and also how there’s something between el and mike representing will in ALL OF THEIR CORE ROMANTIC SCENES INCLUDING THAT FIRST KISS like i mentioned in this post and how we DO see mike being attracted to men outside of will, such as eddie, but NEVER see him being attracted to any girls outside of el and again isnt even attracted to el herself so ‘attracted to girls outside of el’ isnt even true bc he wasnt attracted to el) 

 but if mike is bi/was ever attracted to el (and also the idea that ‘mike is bi but just was never attracted to el but is to other girls’ is a nice headcanon like go ham but imo theres nothing in canon to back that up like he literally never shows attraction to other girls and instead shows outright repulsion towards them), the duffers have to explain:

 1.) all of their familial parallels and what those were meant to indicate if not meant to indicate a platonic bond/lack of attraction from the start. why the fuck did they include such an absolutely ridiculous number of them AND parallel them to MULITPLE different types of familial figures (father, brother, sister, cousin etc)? what was the reason? 

2.) when and why exactly mike fell out of love with el and what it is about el he doesnt like

3.) when and why mike fell into love with will (again gay mike addresses this and when he fell out of love with el in one foul swoop because he was ALWAYS in love with will but NEVER in love with el)

4.) why, if el was doing something mike didnt like/made him not attracted to her anymore, didn’t he try and communicate with her and resolve things?

5.) why the scene at the end of s3 with mike looking confused and disgusted and wondering ‘what’s wrong with me’ exists in addition to all of the other scenes of mike not being attracted to el or any other girls. these scenes dont make any damn sense if mike was ever attracted to girls and if he was never attracted to girls he was never attracted to el so yet again gay mike hits two birds with one stone. 

6.) why mike couldn’t tell el he loved her to her face

7.) how theyre going to resolve the now-created tension between mike and el because mike fell out of love due to something about HER specifically which is going to be more upsetting to el than el finding out that all of this difficulty in their relationship was NEVER ABOUT her or HER FAULT but instead was because mike is gay

 8.) how they’re going to resolve the now-created tension of el and will being pitted against eachother and compared because there’s something about EL that mike doesn’t like and that he thinks is better about will as a person. and sure again that happens irl and mike wouldnt be a bad person for it but a.) this is a show with characters who have themes and arcs and dynamics b.) it doesnt align with el and will’s themes arcs and dynamics or a satisfying end for them and c.) it makes everything take longer to explain so if people are complaining that gay mike would take too long then i hope they have some other wildcard idea in mind for his sexuality because bi mike takes at least twice as long to resolve. 

9.) why mike’s sexuality has been framed around a lack of attraction to women like in addition to him SHOWING the lack of attraction, his sexuality and the way its presented is also framed around that lack of attraction 10.) why the word ‘women’ just magically jumped onto the board behind mike when he was talking about ‘bullshit media propaganda’. thats sure a silly thing to happen to a guy who’s attracted to women! i hate it when my tv show set pieces just jump around of their own volition! especially on a show where the sets are usually deeply intricate and have proven meanings and foreshadowing, but i guess when it came to this scene, it was just a silly little mistake! duffers gotta explain how that happened if mike isn’t gay!  11.) literally a billion other things that im going to go in-depth about in that big anon ask reponse related to this exact topic

 so uh. yeah. the ‘they’d have to go back and explain gay mike and re-explain all those scenes and there’s no time for that’ argument doesn’t hold up at all because that’s actually what would have to happen if mike WASN’T gay. 

 like this is just the tip of the iceberg on this topic i have that whole writeup response to an anon ask about this to finish. but whether you agree with gay mike or not, my point is that the “omg it would take too long and be hard to explain’ argument holds zero water. sorry not sorry!

1. lgbt hcs for the ninja since i did pix

lloyd: agender pan (they/them)

kai: transmasc bi (he/him)

jay and cole are dating as of s5… ISH. and kai and zane are dating as of like s6… or s8. i ahvent worked it out. nya and pix r dating as of like s5 TECHNICALLY lol but s8 proper. cus shes Real now

2. elemental powers and stuff. lets get interesting

MY HC is that all the elements come from the original powers of creation. so the fsm created the original 4 elementals as like protectors of ninjago . and over time as the powers got passed down they mutated or diluted so u get stuff like smoke coming from fire and mind coming from ice (the future vision part). and as of seabound ig water and wind are completely separate but obviously at some point got similarly diluted so long ago even wu didnt realise they were smth separate

essentially this means that while each element still has connections to its dragon roots (see s4 elemental dragons) only the 4 creation elements can use dragon form.

the elements themselves manifest as dragons similarly to the end of s15 (think kai saying “is that… us?”) and the elements kind of …. ARE an elementals whole being.. almost like their soul. the dragons they can summon are a reflection of this (think like.. the titanium dragon for zane)

my approach to stuff in ninjago that is inconsistent or just silly is either to ignore it or warp it into smth that… kind of makes sense. so here my explanation for the powers inconsistencies in the first few seasons lol

the ninja needed the golden weapons to use their powers in the first few seasons despite it later being revealed they were inherent to them simply bc they were too young. powers usually start to manifest around 18 and without training they might not develop past like. accidentally giving ppl static shocks or smth. and this is bc of the dilution of powers over time and the general … lack of need for them in the modern day. but any power can still become massively powerful if trained! lloyd is a special case in that hes able to access his powers from very young due to being. directly descended from the fsm. and similarly the ninja can all use theirs fairly young as the creation elements… nya is able to access her powers at a younger age due to her … different lineage haha

the reason the ninja cant use their powers proper until lloyd donates their golden power is bc as lloyds protectors their power channels into lloyd. in a normal scenario they would have the golden weapons to channel their own powers similarly to how thors hammer worked in ragnarok. and they would also be older and more able to access their powers. but fate works in strange ways lol

i realise im kinda contrarian abt this lol but the ninja r like canonically resistant to their own element so i think they would not have scara from their own element. so like kai burning himself and stuff haha. its a really cool design trope tho .. but in my mind they wld be more likely to have scars from each other. so jay having burn scars and stuff! similarly kai would feel warm to everyone else due to his internal heat but would feel the cold so bad. kai is out there in like 20C/70F weather shivering teeth chattering. and the opposite is true for zane but he has cooling fans so its not as bad haha

umm… one last thing vaguely related to elements i was thinking abt yesterday. the human form taken by the fsm and like. all the elementals and whatever. its not their real form. the fsm is really more of a divine mix of oni and dragon but his power is like that thing where normal ppl kinda… cant comprehend it. so he takes a simpler form when travelling to ninjago and uses this as the basis for the people he created to populate the world. Yes sorry for putting religion in ninjago. the writers did it first

but it is technically still possible for wu garm and lloyd to access these forms. after his bite garmadon slowly starts to show physical traits of the oni.. and lloyd becomes a version of this original form when using their golden powers. both wu and garm technically have access to it as well but dont rlly ever… it doesnt rlly have a practical purpose other than flight lolol and i think wu is both too humble and too afraid to ever rlly tap into his oni side proper to access it. but wu was strangely good at flying in s15 huh… ^_^

love me some soft supportive almost-coming-out scenes. i always thought it was interesting that mike's outburst ("its not my fault you dont like girls!") while horrible and with some pretty awful timing... seemed to imply that... what? he noticed will has no interest in girls? he realized that it wasn't just that will was a late bloomer but something more? theres a lot of subtext there i really wanted to dig my claws into

will's always been the target of homophobic bullying as seen in previous seasons, and altho we never see the kids comment on queerness one way or another, so it seems like there HAD to have been some serious math going on mike's bratty little noggin about will's sexuality at one point? but despite growing up in a family that most likely would have frowned on those inclinations, to say the least, mike kept his questions to himself and kept being will's friend, whereas someone else might freak out, or be more confrontational or simply slowly stop being around a suspected gay person without an explanation. so playing on the dialogue after ("look, im not trying to be a bad guy" or something along those lines) i sort of wanted to expand on that headcanon a lil and kinda lean on mike wheeler's "screw the rules, i can have more than one best friend/ i like you so i will now die for you" personality

5: What part was hardest to write?

the last chapter right now I'd say part 1 of the epilogue (aka chapter 13)! mostly because it explores an aftermath that we didn't see in canon, with a bunch of ideas i had that were pretty vague and hard to make cohesive, and season 4 hadn't been mentioned much at that point so i had no idea what to expect and was kinda stressing out about deviating too much from canon. but i really had a lot of fun with putting all the scenes together and im really proud of it now

7: Where did the title come from?

from a song called revolution by misterwives! particularly the lyrics, "all these acts of violence, ripping this world to shreds/while I'm trying to sleep, oh how could I sleep?"

i thought that particular verse was pretty fitting to the whole theme of the fic (esp the whole ripping the world to shreds bit as a metaphor for the gates opening hehe) and so thats why i made it the title!

9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

kjhgjb uh not really? from the start acts of violence was always meant to be a fic that was going to run parallel to canon bc i do not have the energy to go fully canon divergence with this particular idea and wanted to work on some other projects like wavelength besides. akdfjdsdkgjsd it was always meant to be a sort of practice fic, almost!

but i will say that for chapter 13 there was a moment where i wanted to make mike's awakening with nancy and karen (and sam owens) to be in a military base away from hawkins, on the basis of his leg being infected with extradimensional alien bacteria that a normal hospital would have no idea how to treat and the government would want to keep a close eye on. that however felt like one plotline too many to introduce and resolve when the fic's so close to ending so i cut it out and only left some of those bits in (ie: karen's confrontation with sam, mike developing an infection, etc)

okayyy heres the roman analysis. cw: discussion of nsfw topics (its about his sexuality. so), abuse (references to physical & emotional abuse, heavy discussion of sexual abuse), homophobia, ummm. yeah okay that should be it

romans sex deal is so interesting to me bc its a major facet of his character but its also so open-ended. there are the 4 main interpretations that ive seen; intimacy, power, queerness, and that hes a csa survivor

intimacy makes the most sense imo. he is most comfortable when he cant see the other party, with tabitha he creates this whole. weird necrophilia thing to justify not having to properly interact with her, and with gerri theres always something *between* them -- a phone, or a door, or the fact that they can never actually discuss it since gerri doesnt want her career ruined. this would also parallel nicely with shivs marriage issues, since those also come down to intimacy. shiv even says, in 3x07, "the relationship was fine sexually and you're loving the intimacy and all?" to roman and like. if anyone knows roman its shiv. self recognition through the other (derogatory). see also: tomshiv/romangerri parallels. theres not rlly much i can say here, its like. just metaphorical enough for it to be a theme but not Too much that its grasping at straws.

the only thing i'd have to say against the intimacy interpretation is that i think the fact that they explicitly said it in s3, *especially at kendalls bday party* (where the csa survivor implications are the heaviest), prob means theres something more. if that was meant to be taken straight-on as a whole explanation of romans sex issues then it wouldve been part of a major turning point in his arc -- instead, well. literally in the next episode dickpicgate happens. so. nothing changed. it reads as a one-off line that reflects more on shiv than it does on roman

if u want to read it as a power play thing, i think it has to be in combination with another interpretation. its certainly not enough to stand on its own, since most of romans sex deal is a Lack of sex. having said that, his relationship with gerri attests to this in a very particular way. it started with gerri degrading roman, with him seemingly taking less power in the relationship (which is only hammered in by the age gap), until u realize just how much power roman has over gerri. yes, gerri is a board member, but roman is a *roy*. yes, hes *roman* roy, but a roy nonetheless. he could ruin her career just by a wrong text message, and he almost fucking did! because he was too shortsighted with his own power that he didnt fully conceptualize how dangerous the game he was playing truly was, even though gerri told him time and time again. either way, their dynamic creates this interesting faux secession of power, in which roman can play a sort of. charade that hes less powerful than he truly is

queer interpretation: okay. this one… definitely has backing. i get that the bathroom thing is about masculinity and exclusivity, but its also very very gay to bring not 1, not 2, but 3 men into the bathroom with you. there is no heterosexual explanation for the mencken bathroom meeting. in any case, there are also lines with double meanings, like "i am a walking rainbow band" and logan saying to "get straightened out" when discussing his sex deal. which is. definitely one way to phrase it! roman also has a very noticeable reaction to being called queer/the f slur by logan, which to me says theres some truth to it. overall, i wouldnt say this makes sense as an Explanation of his sex deal, since yknow. his relationship with gerri is to some degree about sexual attraction, from what i can tell. i think hes just queer And has a lot of psychosexual issues. he can do both❤️ (i also left out a Lottt of examples of him being. so manliking. like his entire agreement to "seduce" eduardo, saying "i could rim with vim", etc. theres a 5 minute fancam of him just being gay and the only reason its that short is bc of tumblrs video limit. to give u an idea of just how not-straight he is)

the csa survivor reading is. well. okay. he has a tendency to separate "sex" from "bodies", for example when tabitha says shes wet he cringes and asks her to be less specific. even gerri and romans whole Thing carries with it the knowledge that it is solely gerri degrading roman, only mentioning his behavior and not his body. roman does say shit like "i'd lay you badly but i'd lay you gladly" but like. gerri has made it VERY clear that its not gonna get physical and they both know that. which means roman can make those advances without actually having to fulfill them. additionally, (edit: nvm im proofreading and this is all wrong, sorry i wrote this in the middle of season 2 i didnt know what was coming) he feels isolated from the family bc they think hes "weird"/"has something wrong with [him]". this can presumably be brought back to the dog pound, as thats when he "went weird" and was sent to military school. however we know that his recounting of the event that transpired is unreliable, seeing as kendall confirms later that that wasnt the whole story. ssssso. something big happened around the same time as the dog pound. we get mentions of bedwetting, which is a common symptom of csa, and he makes a Lot of incest/pedophilia jokes, particularly where he is the victim (see: "…said the father as the sexual assault allegations poured in" "like a camp counselor in my butt when i was 12"). like, um, more than any other sibling (except for shiv, whose incest jokes are also always about roman). ESPECIALLY in season 3, like. it feels like every time roman is on-screen in s3 theres some joke about him wanting to fuck his mom. in any case, this has all been talked about before. if u wanna see more about it, heres an article discussing it that i really liked: https://medium.com/@krpilon/successions-roman-roy-is-a-csa-victim-here-s-why-b96aa628fe71 . what i havent seen discussed while ppl talk about this interpretation/theory, is his role in the argestes panel. for a refresher: the panel was waystars initial statement following the news of the sexual assault and murders in cruises. shiv and kendall take haphazard turns making statements, while roman is notably quiet. now, u could just say that this is a metaphor for their respective roles within the company, and u'd be right -- shiv and kendall are really the only two that are at all being considered for ceo, while roman fades into the background, despite technically being there. but i wanna try out a different interpretation. lets take a look at the cinematography first. at ~50:56, kendall says, "we dont know." at the same time, the camera moves to romans face. kendalls voice is overlayed, "right now we just dont know". before zooming back out and focusing on the rest of the panel as kendall moves on. if were running with the csa survivor interpretation here, which we are in this case, this would reference people not knowing about romans sexual abuse, only bolstered by the fact that the argestes panel *was literally discussing sexual abuse*. finally, the only thing roman says during this panel is, "we'll do whatever anyone wants". again, double meaning. theres other stuff, like in 3x01 the camera focuses on roman when the possibility of logan sexually assaulting someone is brought up, but that was the most clear example i could see of cinematography being used to imply this

FUCK i forgot another thing with the csa interpretation. okay so like. theres sexual abuse within the company. thats a pretty big piece of season 2 and season 3. and we know that the violence of capital (abuse within waystar) is the violence of the family (abuse within the roy family). so it would make sense that there would also be sexual abuse within the family. this leads into theories surrounding rose as well, since if romans csa mirrors the sexual abuse in cruises, then the murder of rose would mirror the murder in cruises

IN ANY CASE. those are the 4 most common interpretations ive seen. i agree with all of them to some degree, but i also trust in succession's ability to throw us curveballs

btas - usually dont care for like blue/green harvey but this one is whatever. not the biggest fan of his hair either i like when they give him the little stray lock of hair. usually would not care for how they drew the scarred side of his face in general and dont really like it here but for some reason still one of my favorite designs. im glad they didnt give him the like . ruined suit on one half

whatever Harvey this is from i like it a lot i like that they didnt give him like a two colored suit. again usually dont care for the blue/green face but i like this one a lot i think this is actually what inspired my design a bit, especially w the eye i really like how the eye is drawn i dont like when they make it red (which is like most things) or whatever i like this one a lot

why i think christianity is just one big abusive relationship

tw for christianity, abuse, sexism, racism, uh f slur (f4g), some phrases can be read as antisemitic (i speak very negatively about biblical jews) but i am not antisemitic.

so. all this info is based on personal experience with both topics. I have done little to no research. if you disagree or think i worded something wrong, dm me and i'll edit this post if your points are reasonable.

yes i am a christian (i think) i believe that God exists and there's heaven and hell and angels, but that's it. i don't like going to church or praying or reading the bible and i hate being referred to as christian and i used to call myself an agnostic but apparently if you believe that god exists you're a christion so um LOL. (pls dont cancel me in one of the good ones idc if you fuck in ikea or if youre a fag i swear i only belive that god exists and thats it)

i think we all know what an abusive relationship is. It's a relationship where one person(or people) has a hierarchy over another person(or people) usually most abusive relationships are physical, emotional, or sexual. but there's also mental abuse, power dynamics, exploitation, etc

christianity is ticks almost all the boxes of different types of abuse.

Now abuse is a complex thing. i cant talk much about it in a tumblr text post. if not, id have to make multple parts of this (ill make more parts if people like this one enough ig) so im going to start with things that dont seem abusive but actually are

power dynamics: simply put, power dynamics are usually relationships where one person has more power in the relationship, usually outside of a romantic or sexual setting. for example we have an employer and an employee, a government official and a civilian, an MMA fighter and a teenager, etc. the difference in power can be physical, social, monetary etc.

Now i dont really know what kind of power dynamic that is the most prevalent in christianity(because its a delicious soup of so many things that seperating all the elements is close to impossible), but a really nice one is the rift between pastors and their congregation. the pastor(preachers and priests apply to this but im just gonna use pastor) is usually seen as the head of the church, most times hes more financially stable than his congregation(hmmm i wonder why....), hes seen as a person who could do no wrong by god, he is above his congregation in many ways. another example is between christians and God but uh i feel like if i say more about that sky daddy will kill me himself.

Think about a stereotypical relationship with a power dynamic. (im sorry but the only example i can think of is meredith grey and her italian himbo bf). reread the last few paragraphs. do you understand now?

do you know how many times ive heard a christian say shit like 'God only loves you if you do x and stop doing y' (cough cough being gay cough) or 'if you dont become a jesus kinnie youll go to hell and burn forever? well ive heard it a lot of times, and i never bothered to count

think about those examples i just gave, and think about how twisted it is. think about a little child, maybe she's 5. think about her parents telling her everyday that 'God only loves her if she keeps her virginity till shes married or stays straight and cis or doesnt get tatoos or piercings or only wears clothing that will glorify the lord' this little child is being groomed to beleiving that shes only worth God's love when she deprives herself of so many things that would make her happy (and idk i remember the bible saying that God's love is unconditional... curious....) if you dont think thats emotionally manioulative then damn im so sorry for you

I kinda have a take and just wanna clarify its not @ u. (This is Part 1) So lots of ppl rlly like Aaron and that's fine ofc I cant tell anyone who to like and who not to but ppl that do tend to try and say that hes not actually homophobic in canon which is simply not true. Or they try to justify it somehow. Aarons homophobia honestly ruined any chance I had of liking him (same with seth) and ppl sometimes say that if u dont like Aaron for that then u cant like Neil or Wymack cuz they're ableist

(Part 2) and have they used ableist language? Yes. But is there actual evidence to suggest they hold prejudices against disabled/neurodivergent ppl? I dont think so. Neil only uses this language once and its clearly to rile Kevin up, theres so much evidence that he admires Kevin and I dont see Neil looking down on him for his disability at all. Wymack-he uses ableist slurs more but he still signs neurodivergent players and I cant say I genuinely believe he thinks any less of them for it.

first of all, ofc no one can tell you which character to like and which to dislike. everyone chooses their faves for personal reasons and no one owes anybody explanation for why they like or dislike them. however if you want to explain why you dislike aaron as opposed to neil you’ll have to come up with different arguments bcs so far it looks like you have double standards. 

it’s true that aaron is homophobic. you say there’s no justifying it or explaining it away and i agree but aren’t you at the same time trying to justify neil’s and wymack’s use of ableist language, to discard it as unimportant and not worthy of calling out or being a reason for disliking someone?

has aaron used homophobic slurs? yes once, if you count “flamer”. how many times have neil and wymack and other characters called andrew crazy, psycho or retarded? i don’t know exactly but more than once. now you say that it doesn’t count bcs they don’t seem to hold any prejudice against disabled people. well by that logic any straight ally can use the f-word freely bcs it’s just a word after all. but it’s not just a word, it’s a slur and if you call somebody like that it won’t be a good look no matter how many lgbt people you know and how many fictional gays you ship. and the only difference between homophobic and ableist slurs is that the former ones at this point are taboo in a civilized conversation bcs we’ve learned to interpret them as signs of bigotry whereas the latter ones still aren’t even registered as slurs by most people.

when neil called kevin a cripple - what does it matter if he generally has no prejudice against disabled people? he specifically used an ableist slur with an intention to hurt. let’s imagine that kevin’s gay - would neil use an f-word in the very same situation to hurt him? probably not. but it speaks not so much of neil’s character as about how normalized ableist slurs are. for if neil has ever used an f-word it would be much harder for him to become a fan favorite, however words like “cripple” and “psychotic” directed at a disabled person and a person who probably struggles with mental disorders we just let slide. did he want to hurt them? he did. does he generally have any prejudice against disabled people? well idk the only ones he interacted with in canon are kevin and andrew and he totally used slurs against them with ill intention.

does aaron really have prejudice against gay people? it seems he does but if we continue this thought experiment then the only gays he interacted with in canon would be nicky, andrew and neil. when he called neil a flamer - this is the very same situation as neil vs kevin. aaron wanted to hurt and used the slur he thought would accomplish it. aaron never called nicky anything like that and all the rudes comments he made against him that are usually interpreted as homophobic are partly call outs for being inappropriate and partly expressions of discomfort at his relative graphically describing his sexual desires. 

if neil calling kevin and andrew, who he at that point perceived as dangerous, ableist slurs isn’t a sufficient indication of his prejudice than why is aaron calling neil, who he perceived as dangerous, a homophobic slur a sufficient indication of his?

i believe that disliking aaron has more to do with how the story is told from neil’s perspective - not only bcs they hate each other but also bcs aaron gets very little screen time. all that he is and does behind the scenes is surmised by the reader and so he either becomes a homophobic jerk who uses slurs in his head frequently (just like neil uses ableist language) or he becomes an angry misunderstood boy who’s constantly made uncomfortable by his cousin. there’s room for interpretation and only you decide which way it goes.

all aftg characters have done problematic things which range from making fun of each other’s grief and trauma to harassment to armed assault. if we put homophobia and ableism into this perspective the would be roughly on the same level of “badness“ in my opinion. the differences between them would lie not in which character holds more prejudice or uses more slurs objectively but in what type of bigotry you subjectively think is more unforgivable and likely to ruin a character for you. you will never like aaron bcs he’s homophobic, those other people will dislike neil bcs of ableist language and i will forever be angry at nicky and his rapey comments and actions. we all have double standards and we don’t like these characters for their “goodness“ and lack of problematic character traits bcs they all have some. we like them bcs something in their personalities speaks to us and in that we either acknowledge their flaws or ignore them. 

i personally think acknowledging is a better way.

tl;dr you certainly aren’t obliged to like aaron just bcs you like neil but explaining neil’s ableism away isn’t an efficient way to rationalize it. maybe there’s no way to rationalize it at all so you just say yes i dislike aaron bcs he’s homophobic and i just can’t ignore or forgive that and at the same time i like neil although he’s ableist without ignoring or justifying it. basically just acknowledge that your fave’s problematic and move on🤷

its about that hope again. its about midoriya staying up so late at night overthinking everything hes ever done and wondering if todoroki is just humoring him bc his crush on the other is just so so obvious and it feels so awful to know that hes so obvious and todoroki is just playing along and he wonders if todoroki really knows how much he loves him. its about todoroki in his own room, worrying about the same thing. its about noticing the little things about each other. its about already knowing a whole host of secrets and knowing its okay to trust themselves to the other. its about midoriya noticing everything about todoroki and detailing all his little ticks and favorite things in his notebooks and hoping that todoroki notices just as many things about him, wanting the other to feel the same depth of feelings. its about todoroki becoming more and more emotionally aware (heroes can cry too) and noticing everything about midoriya and thinking hes just cataloging everything he’d need to take down a rival but do you really need to know all of someones different smiles in order to fight them?

I See You - “ I'm alone with you / You're alone with me / And I'm hoping that you will see yourself / Like I see you / Yes, I see you “

its about mutually loving each other even in the hard times, even in the sad times. its about that sweet sweet hurt/comfort that the both of them inevitably have to have bc of the trauma each of them have faced either in their childhood or together as heroes. its about being able to see through the masks that they both have whether it be a stoic one or a smile. its about hoping that the other will see their own inherent worth past their hurting and understand why they love them. its about hoping the other will see how much they love them 

Talk Too Much - “ You know I talk too much / Honey, come put your lips on mine and shut me up / We could blame it all on human nature / Stay cool, it's just a kiss / Oh, why you gotta be so talkative? / I talk too much, we talk too much “

a cute and silly song about midoriya being overly talkative bc hes a little chatterbox and we all know that todoroki loves it but sometimes it get a little frustrating when he wants kisses instead of the fifty-third rant about all mights golden age costume design (really todo it was a brilliantly done color scheme and- and the symbolism!) and maybe sometimes even midoriya would rather be kissing than talking too

Tongue Tied - “ I loved you then and I love you now / Oh yeah / Don't take me tongue tied / Don't wave no goodbye “

kinda debated about whether or not this one fit enough to keep but its a bop so it stays. its mostly the tongue tied part of the lyrics that apply bc both the boys get a little mixed up and tongue tied when it comes to talking to each other when theyre in love and crushing hard ( mostly midoriya but todoroki too) 

When the Day Met the Night - “  When the moon fell in love with the sun / All was golden in the sky / All was golden when the day met the night “

do i really need to day more than sun and moon motif tododeku? its about izuku bringing warmth back to shoutos life and shouto being a steady gentle presence for izuku. its about izuku being able to light up a room and shouto being full of radiant grace and the two coming together as opposites in harmony 

First Day of My Life - “  Yours was the first face that I saw / I think I was blind before I met you / And I don't know where I am, I don't know where I've been / But I know where I want to go / And so I'd thought I'd let you know / Yeah, these things take forever, I especially am slow / But I realized that I need you / And I wondered if I could come home “

we’re getting into the really mushy gushy songs that make me sigh like a lovelorn maiden or something. i love this one for tododeku especially with the sports festival in mind as a sort of awakening. like shouto had only just realized what it was like to fully live for himself bc of izuku. izuku really opened up a path for him and guided him out of his misery into a brand new life full of acceptance and love. and shouto was there to return that love tenfold to izuku who hadnt really ever felt such devotion before. its about finally realizing that they can be so good together. its about wanting to come home to each other 

Home to You - “  But I see the world so different now / But there's a place by the sea and that's my town / When I don't know what to say / When I don't know what to do / There's a room I need to sit in / Surrounded by my favorite view / When I need a hand to hold / Someone to tell the truth / Would it be okay if I came home to you? “

One of my favorite ooey gooey songs about coming home and finding solace in another, which is just so perfect for tododeku. i love it when shouto feels like izuku is his home. that hes never felt like he truly belonged anywhere before he started belonging in izukus arms, holding his hand, and loving him. i feel like they would be good for settling each others doubts and fears. izuku worries that hes not good enough, that he needs to do more in whatever hes doing, that he will once again be found useless. but shouto is no nonsense enough to tell him straight that hes enough, hes wonderful, and already does so so much that its astounding and izuku cant help but to believe him. and when shouto starts to think hes like his father too much in the wrong way, starting to doubt is path in life, or thinks that his trauma makes him too difficult to deal with. but izuku is far too open and loving and shouto knows hes far too good to ever let shouto be what he fears most and izuku is there to remind him of all the good things hes done to earn that love. its about both of them being emotionally repressed in different ways and not knowing what to do or what to say but finding a way to communicate with each other anyway.

there can be a lot of challenges for the boys depending on the setting their relationship takes place in; shouto’s father always plays a role, kacchans attitude whether a constant interference or a ghost of izuku’s past, acceptance from the outside world, acceptance from friends and family, power imbalance (shoutos a prince and izukus a servant/knight/random adventurer) and a whole host of fic specific issues. this is about falling in love with each other despite them all, this is about begging each other to fall despite the dangers, this is about fighting to be together anyway. this is about finding an impossible love that shocks your soul and embracing it with all your heart.

you know some of those fics that hurt good bc mostly izuku but sometimes also shouto decide that their hero careers need to come first and that having a relationship would only interfere with that despite the fact that they love each other a lot? this is the song that plays when they realize that’s not true and come together and decide to be together anyway and that theyll be stronger for it. its about growing together as a couple as well as separately and still loving each other even through the changes. its about rising through the ranks together. learning about the world, together. and its about taking on any challenge thrown at them. together. growing, changing, loving.

listen listen this song is so so so good for tododeku like look at those lyrics i just wanna cry about it. its about highlighting the flaws that can happen in their relationship when theyre both trying to fix the other more than to help themselves (especially izuku like baby boy please) its about making the promise to love each other unconditionally bc neither have really had that before outside of their moms? (and shoutos sibs) love without strings attached (doesnt matter if you were quirkless, doesnt matter if youre not the number one hero, doesnt matter that youve been through so much trauma ill help you and love you anyway) both of them striving to be the best fit for the other either a tidal wave or calm waters, eaither righteous fury or gentle love and its about just being so so thankful that they love each other even through the hard times

this about past trauma and shared trauma and healing both on their own and together and knowing their relationship can weather through it all. this is about izuku comforting shouto through everything about his father and his family and the feelings that dredge up when someone asks about endeavor and its about shouto helping izuku through his complicated relationship with katsuki and how he flinches when a villain says his hero name in just the wrong tone. its about izuku covering shoutos scar with kisses and its about shouto tracing his fingers along the scar tissue on izukus hands. its about being patient and waiting and helping each other through times that feel like just too much to handle. 

Talk to Me - “ You don't have to be a hero to save the world / You don't have to be a prodigy to be unique / You don't have to know what to say or what to think / You don't have to be anybody you can never be / That's alright, let it out, talk to me “

its about both of them living up to the high expectations placed on their shoulders and telling each other that theyre enough. that izuku doesnt have to be the next symbol of peace exactly like all might. that shouto doesnt have to be the number one hero exactly like his father. its about encouraging each other to talk even though their both bad at it; izuku mumbles and stutters and takes forever to get to the point and shouto takes a long time to say what hes thinking and form it all into words and sometimes he still cant find the right ones. but shouto is patient and so is izuku.

the ooiest and gooiest and again with all the sunlight that always used as a lovely motif. izuku is always lit up like the sun and shoutos hair always catches the light just so. its about finding each other and falling into a home and comfort together and being disgustingly in love with each other. its about the comfort that comes after the hurt and being happy and being at peace with each other

I Do Adore - “ When you're near, I hide my blushing face / And trip on my shoelaces / Grace just isn't my forté / But it brings me to my knees when you say / Hello, how are you, my darling, today? / I fall into a pile on the floor / Puppy love is hard to ignore / When every little thing you do, I do adore  “

ah another cute to emphasize that both the boys are dorks and sometimes even when theyve established that they like each other they cant help but combust into blushing messes. its about how sometimes shouto still lights himself on fire when izuku has a rare bout of confidence and really zuku that was very bold and my heart cant take it and about how shouto can still shock izuku speechless with a few well timed kisses 

Pink in the Night - “  I could stare at your back all day / And I know I've kissed you before, but / I didn't do it right / Can I try again, try again, try again / Try again, and again, and again “

izukus got a nice strong back and so does shouto (theyre heroes of course they cut a nice figure) and sometimes shouto gets lost in daydreams and sometimes izuku does too and its about the soft soft kisses that neither can get enough of. its about the yearning despite finding each other bc sometimes it doesnt feel real and ya gotta kiss again and again just to make sure and honestly its a mitski song what more to you want from me

Laundry Room - “ Don't push me out / Just a little longer / Stall your mother / Disregard your father's words / Close the laundry door / Tiptoe across the floor / Keep your clothes on / I've got all that I can take / Teach me how to use / The love that people say you made “

theres just so many fics about laundry? what makes doing laundry together so intimate? sharing detergent and smelling like each others clothes? showing a part of yourself to someone else? anyway, its about love and being home with each other and wishing the love will last. its about sometimes things dont end so well and you want to turn back time and sometimes izuku leaves and sometimes shouto runs but most times one or the other comes back and it all hurts but the love again is worth it

Brand New Day - “ I'll be flicking stones at your window / I'll be waiting outside 'til you're ready to go / Won't you come down? Come away with me / Think of all the places we could be / I'll be waiting, waiting on a brand new day  “

its about running away together or just traveling the word together or going out on a journey (always together) its about izuku wanting to go to the states for hero work or about prince shouto needing to complete a quest to be free of his father and its about izuku not wanting to go without shouto and about prince shouto only loving the journey after picking up a stray green-haired adventurer. its about beginning something new together, its about ending one chapter and starting another.

WHY I LOVE ZADR!!!

HEY GUYS WHASSUP? LMAO

So this is a whole ass giant long post of me absolutely spewing my feelings of love for ZADR, it was the very first thing I wrote when I made this blog and I think it’s a nice, positive thing for my fellow shippers to inhale and enjoy 👌👌

it was originally a reply to mitarashiart’s post about why HE loves ZADR (link in replies) but I decided to delete that and make my own post since MY WHOLE ENTIRE TEXT WALL WAS SHOWN IN THE REPLIES and drowned out anyone else who was trying to talk (thanks tumblr mobile u fuckin idiot)

I had also posted a summary of an AU that I’m working on in the original post, but decided to remove it since it just about doubled the length (I’m thinking about posting it separately along with the wips I’ve been putting together, we’ll see 👀)

But ANYWAY, here is about a million reasons why I think ZADR is the fucking best, so if you like reading gushy gay ship feelings, please enjoy ❤️❤️❤️

SOOO, holy hell y’all my journey back into this fandom has been a wild and unique experience for me, i went from adding invader zim to my bookmarks on kisscartoon, rewatching the series, finding out theres a movie coming out, finding out there was a shitload of content i’d never seen before (commentaries, lost episode scripts and audios, panels, the COMIC, episodes i’d never seen because the dvd i used to watch was scratched!! and a FUCKLOAD of quality modern fan art like oh my GOD) and finally curiously googling ‘zadr’ (which i was way into when i was maybeee 13/14) to see if there was any interesting new art, and holy hell, mita (the artist above) singlehandedly THREW me down the hole into modern zadr hell, first with his absolutely stunning IZ art (all his art is dope tho check him out yo), then reading the above explanation put the final nail in the coffin like, 100%

so i wanted to add onto his post here on why this ship got me so fucked up, both for anyone who might be wondering why on earth i’m shipping two characters from a kid’s show (i’m very aware how weird that is at first glance trust me) and also so i can get some ideas down for possible future reference (will i ever draw them? maybe)

(first of all, a disclaimer, and this is not pleasant to write but it’s important to address for clarity’s sake: I have no interest in romantic or sexual relationships between minors, and do not ship zim and dib as they are presented canonically in the show (as children). what i’m interested in is the conceptualized relationship they may have as modern adults, and i view zadr more as taking the concepts of existing characters and experimenting with them with different interpretations, which i personally think is a constructive and fun creative outlet, especially if these characters hold personal significance for you (childhood faves of course). growing up together is an important facet of their relationship, and certainly they were important to each other even as children (see: mopiness of doom) but as an adult i’m personally curious about what kind of adults they might’ve become, and that’s the focus of my interest. i’ll still be reblogging regular IZ art because it’s dope but if you see shippy looking art of them as tiny lil beans its either friendship or chibis (and i personally headcanon zim as getting taller with dib but some people stick with his canonical height when drawing them as adults, which is super short. it still doesn’t mean he’s a kid). aaand i wish i didnt have to write this and it would just be obvious but we live in a sick sad world and it is sourced from a children’s cartoon so i feel its necessary. end of disclaimer)

NOW THAT THAT’S OUT OF THE WAY

- ok, first reason’s a bit obvious - the nostalgia. holy hell, the feeling of rediscovering a ship that was popular when i was a preteen during the mid 2000s and discovering a totally new perspective on it as an adult comes with an almost totally overwhelming sense of nostalgia and comfort, as well as inspiration!! the kind of art that seems so common for zadr, these sketch pages of scenes and expressions and visual gags where artists would just scribble every idea they had and LOVE doing it, this was exactly the kind of art that made me so passionate about drawing as a kid, and it still sparks such a powerful feeling of love and admiration for me to this day. fan content of iz and zadr is simultaneously achingly familiar and totally new and fascinating, and it just makes me SO damn happy to consume, it is most definitely my new comfort content. and just, GOD. THE ART!! SO GOOD. FUCK

- now for the characters themselves: for some reason i just really love the thought of a mid twenties, modern Dib?? lanky goth dork, disaster bi, depressed as shit, uses bad sweaters and memes to cope?? when i was a kid i didn’t even LIKE Dib, but now i totally sympathize with him! he’s just a hyper obsessive nerd wishing there was more to life than the situation he got stuck with, how wildly relatable. he was a pretty big asshole as a kid (even to people besides zim) but he was also totally isolated and constantly bullied, so there’s a lot of room for growth. i feel there’s a lot of juicy character development potential for that boy, and there’s always been a special place in my heart for characters who are totally sad and screwed and hopeless, but there’s one thing, or person, that means the world to them and could possibly save them…

- aliens. Zim. i love nonhuman characters, i love monsters, i love aliens, i love characters that don’t understand human shit (and thus have much less room for shame or fear bc theyre just totally oblivious the negatives of modern society) and need guidance (bonding!!) from their human. i also love morally grey characters and characters with skewed logic, they’re always really interesting, and Zim himself just has such a unique personality and set of mannerisms, he contradicts himself a lot and you can never quite expect how he’ll behave, and i love that in a character, it makes them super versatile and fun, especially since there’s so many different possibilities for their development. Also, Zim is a gremlin, a little shit, and a disaster. I also love those traits in a character. And don’t even get me started on his character design?? big sparkly eyes? expressive antennae? monster teeth? complimenting colors? he’s adorable.

- mutual obsession. for someone like Dib, who seems almost repulsed by how boring and slow the people around him are, Zim quite literally personifies Dib’s  escapist fantasies, both as an inhuman entity from beyond the stars, and as a person who’s knowledge, charisma and mystery far exceeds that of anyone Dib has met in his entire life. (so basically what i’m saying is that for a shunned, jaded misanthropist, an actual alien is terribly alluring, even if said alien is dangerous, stupid, and possibly insane). not to mention Zim vindicates Dib’s entire life passion, the supernatural! Even when their relationship is totally negative, there is not a single inch of room for Dib to get tired of Zim. as mita explained, they validate each other. for Zim, WHO AGAIN, IS TOTALLY SHUNNED, ISOLATED, AND HATED BY EVERYONE HE KNOWS, Dib is the only person in the universe who gives a single shit about him!! he gives Zim credit as a threat, a capable invader, which if you ask me is the sole thing Zim is after (he’s hellbent on his mission because it would win him the approval of the tallest, all he’s ever wanted is recognition from the people he thinks so highly of). He literally gets depressed when Dib isn’t around to pay attention to him, not even the tallest were enough to motivate him before Dib came back. these two have no one and nothing without each other, and while lifelong nemeses is fine and dandy, i personally prefer friendship, affection and love, cause i’m a softie like that. how could they possibly get there after years of actively trying to kill each other?? well, i think under just the right circumstances it could become a possibility after a long, long time.

- growth. i. love. me. some. good. character growth. especially for characters with trauma/mental illness, bc again, relatable. these boys have issues, and as mita mentioned, their canon stories are actually INCREDIBLY sad! but the happy thought is, they could recover! they could help each other recover, for little reason other than the two are the only source of happiness for each other. now of course this also opens the gate for angst lovers, but at the same time offers potential for comforting, uplifting content of the boys supporting and inspiring each other, maybe even to the point of becoming happy and healthy enough to create the lives they want for themselves (as in appreciating life and doing things that make them actually happy instead of the delusions of grandeur they both sought when they were younger). gimme that positive shit and let the poor beans be happy  щ(ಠ益ಠщ)

- LITTLE THINGS. LITTLE THINGS THAT ONLY COME WITH CHILDHOOD FRIENDS. WITH HUMAN/NONHUMAN. WITH THE SHOW’S WEIRD LOGIC. Zim being the person Dib knows best and vice versa. Zim having an involuntary respect/admiration for Dib because he’s tall. Learning each other’s needs, limits, and communication methods, both emotionally and biologically. Sensitive antennae. Affectionate bickering. Being less insecure bc your partner literally has no idea why you see your flaws as flaws. Laughing at the flaws they do notice because they make no sense. Zim only wanting to eat waffles and chow mein. Dib being forced to overcome his depression lethargy and stay hygienic/keep the apartment clean because Zim has a sharper sense of smell and is afraid of germs. Endless conversation about anything and everything because they’re from literally different worlds, and endless intrigue. TOUCHING. TALKING. DOING EVERYTHING LIKE ITS THE VERY FIRST TIME AND ALWAYS NEEDING THE OTHER TO GUIDE THEM. HOLY HELL THERE IS SO MUCH POSSIBILITY FOR TINY LITTLE MOMENTS THAT MEAN THE WORLD. FUCK. GOT ME FUCKED UP.

Okay so Ive been on a bit of à harry potter fan theory bender.

Now I'm considering an alternate version of the story that's a lot more queer.

-The youngest Weasley brother who opened the chamber of secrets in their first year (Harry's second) and was sorted into Slytherin comes out as trans and places a Fidelius charm on her deadname / the fact she isn't a cis girl (this is Ginny)

-at some point she chooses to dispel that Fidelius charm because she doesn't feel like it's genuine to hide her transness

-thus genuinely confusing some ppl when it is dispelled

-also Molly is still fiercely Molly and is totally onboard with the trans thing

-Arthur and maybe one or two of the eldest brothers try but don't quite get it, but they really do try

-Harry is bi or pan (not decided, maybe he never labels it in the series)

-Ron is straight, still

-Draco asks Ron to the yule ball in year 4

-Ron refuses because (in order) 1 it's Malfoy, 2 he asked pretty early and ron is certain he can find a girl to go with.

-the pavarti twins are both gay in this version so Harry and Ron end up going together (Ron's idea so he doesn't have to go alone but like he's not gay so it doesnt lead anywhere but harry is left wondering)

-malfoy ends up with Longbottom, because of course

-theres more clear corruption at the ministry because people bring up the fact that they should be using veritaserum and/or something like the pensieve to see the truth.

-theres more than just the book 3 use of time turners because that's such an interesting mechanic to destroy, especially since the whole 'if you go back you've already been back and any repercussions are already being felt' so you can't actually change the past

-dont forget Ginny experimenting with polyjuice to try to fight dysphoria

-oh and Cho has a different name and is less problematically written (for starters there's more diversity than just the 1 Asian kid who's in the smarty pants house)

-ron still ends up with Hermione but idk for some reason it's not weird because harry falling for a Slytherin seems so much more compelling

-plus it can't just be Malfoy BC 1 there's already a lot of that content out there and 2 putting Ginny in Slytherin just seems fitting for more than just harry marrying her. She's the outcast Weasley (as trans and as only girl and as Slytherin), the outcast Slytherin (Weasley, being the only Slytherin we as readers know of who isn't considered a bad guy at any point in the story, maybe being trans but I want that to be a non-issue tbh), has this connection to Voldy's diary which would be easier for the gang to miss if she wasn't sharing a dorm with them

-Trelawney isn't framed like such an idiot because genuinely all her prophecies (not just the ones where she goes all weird and doesn't remember them) come true (this is true in the original material but it's hard to notice)

-at first she is because she makes prediction about the Weasley sister who noone believes to exist BC Ginny hasn't come out yet but once that's a thing people start realizing Trelawny actually knows what she's doing mostly?

-Snape being at the resurrection stone thing where harry talked to Sirius and his parents and Lupin.

Also putting Fred there.

Actually maybe Snape survives somehow and thus can have a reunion with potter after the Battle of Hogwarts

-The 7 potters plan having even more potters because time turners? This is kinda shaky

-some reason why the ministry didn't or couldn't protect against polyjuice when the trio broke in

-an explanation or demonstration of why potion masters aren't constantly trying to brew like 9000 batches of liquid luck

-at least one of Dumbledore's Army become unregistered animagi (I wanna say either Ginny or Harry if not both, maybe they get more screentime together this way)

-Why was none of Harry's classmates (Hermione, who researched the crap out of Hogwarts, Ron who is like the 9474th in his direct family to come through the school) as first years aware of the sorting hat ahead of time but harry could tell his kid before he got sorted? Explanation! Fidelius charm, broken during the battle of Hogwarts.

-more talk about Muggle technology (this time Harry's first year is around 2010) and muggleborns like Hermione encouraging the use of it (instead of using ministry trackable means of communication, just send texts)

-also some demonstration of wireless tech not working properly at super magical places such as Hogwarts or the quidditch world cup or the ministry of magic, places with antimuggle charms on them. Not getting service at the Weasley's place.

-Oh and we really need some neurodiversity in there. Maybe Harry with some ADHD stuff?

-Neville definitely autistic I mean he already comes across as not doing well in school other than his special interest in herbology, despite later turning out to be a really good wizard.

i think a big part of why ppl are more upset about like... bowers stans and such versus stans of other villains in other fandoms is bc the villains themselves are very real world problem villains. and sure killing ppl and robbing banks is like real and shit like that happens, but its not like.... its not something that resonates with every person as a bad experience theyve once had. like most people havent come into contact w/ a murderer (and known it, at least) or someone over the top bad like most super villains in dc comics and scifi stuff. but these guys? theyre all kinds of real-life bad. especily henry. henry is racist, misogynistic, homophobic (despite being gay, like, hes literally that trope), ablist, fat-phobic, and hs the most fragile masculinity of anyone ive ever heard of, among many other things. he is entirely a product of his own fear of being/refusal to be introspective at all, and his terrible environment. it makes sense that he’d be this way with no one in his life to be any sort of positive influence, BUT, it also makes total sense to hate his guts. just because the reasons why he’d be this way are comprehensible enough, doesnt mean that anyone has to feel sorry for him or want the best for him. but it also doesnt mean that anyone who finds him interesting or wants to give him a chance at happiness is inherently bad. it doesnt mean that people who want him to have a better grip on himself or want an alternate universe where he gets his shit together and is good are bad, i dont think. I dont think anyones bad for either opinion on henry or any of the other bowers gang members unless tht opinion condones all the shit they do or tries to pretend that it aint that bad. its horrendous. especially henry. even if there are reasons hes like that. even if he was becoming more and more affected by pennywise through out the book. even if hes only 12 nd it mkes sense that he hasnt thought for himself yet. he’s still, in all the book’s canon, shitty. it’s totally alright to write au’s where he stops being shitty, but dont pretend hes not. (on another note, its’ also totally alright to be of the belief that he couldnt ever be not shitty. I can see both sides of that) (p.s. yes i realize ptrick is worse than henry but he’s also still more over the top than him and not as many people seem to like him anyways, from what i can see, because he’s less pitiful maybe?? and theres less explanation for him??? idk.) tldr: it makes sense to dislike henry/the other bowers gang members (but mostly henry) and no one is bad for doing so, OR bad for liking him and/or wanting him to be better either as long as they dont agree with the shit he does in canon

the "Love" referred to in Godspeed Love is tendou, because the title of that movie is what kagami thinks to tendou in the capsule while caucasus smashes the window. he places his trust in tendou because in that canon au, they both have the same goals: stop the worm and create a world where they can live in peace (without the influence of zect).

there are two warring groups in the movie, zect and neo-zect, which have conflicting aims: to "eliminate" the worm and neo-zect, and to eliminate both the worms and zect. these two groups are pitted against each other to give context for why kagami and tendou decide to take over zect's space station.

as with the canon plotline, we can reasonably assume that the worm have infiltrated zect and are working to destroy the world-- while appearing to the remaininf humans watching that they have saved it. this is confirmed when it is revealed that the meteor zect is about to shoot with their space station is full of worms. as the leader of neo-zect used to work for zect (confirmed in the battle in the beginning when he talked to his "mirror" in a similar suit design), its possible he overheard enough from the worms in zect to be suspicious of zect's motives, and also steal at least one zecter to do battle against zect with.

the characters who remain with zect may vary with their credulity/suspicion. in the movie, there was a scene where misaki overheard the zect superior discussing the plan, and leaked it to tendou in order to put a stop to it. prior to that, i believe she may have questioned zect internally without showing doubts in it.

i don't remember what tadokoro did in that movie, sowe're skipping him to move onto kagami. we know that kagami voices his doubts externally, and if he did doubt zect, he was probably reassurred of their motives by one of his commanders, even though he also has the gatack zecter in this universe, and probably the title that comes with it. this means he probably talked to tendou about his doubts, getting at least one of three tendou-typical answers:

1. "i don't care, now eat this food and you'll feel better" as a grandma quote.

2. "a lecture on how large organizations abuse their power somehow but you just haven't figured out how yet." the grandma quote.

3. "leave the thinking to me bc i'm the sun."

this gives tendou the third faction, which mostly consists of him and kagami and hiyori. misaki i think would also be a part of it (despite being in one zect or another), because after she got stabbed, she called tendou with the information. instead of wanting to destroy only one other organization, tendou's goals appear to be: crush both AND the worms. he does this because he doesn't want one large organization to control the people/be hailed as heroes if they succeed in their goals. his suspicion of organizations was voiced by like episode 15 in the main series, and he prefers to make the world revolve around himself.

so, that's an egocentric goal instead of a humblr reason to destroy large organizations, but in the end it pays the same dividends: gets rid of both zects. however, not really at the same time. in the main series, there is only zect. there are no whistleblowers save for the hopper brothers and they weren't in the movie. no explanation in terms of plot either. oh, except kageyama is thebee. so yaguruma either must've been kicked out already, or he was never a part of zect to begin with. in any case, the hopper brothers' suits were replaced by the two "mirrored" riders whose names i forget.

in both universes, zect is marginally underequipped to fight the worm. their zectroopers all die in the first episode, and even kagami's unit seems incapable of handling a worm doppelganger investigation at first. this all has the dramatic effect of making tendou look good. in the movie, tendou is the one to stop the battle in the first scene by kicking everyone else's asses. before the end, he and kagami have teamed up to steal the hyper zecter. it is tendou's plan to destroy the worm which works in the end, but without kagami's cooperation and trust, he never would have pulled this off.

if kagami had been resentful and mistrusting of tendou like he was by like episode 3, the battle for the hyper zecter would likely have ended with them both killed in space and everyone killed by the meteor's impact (like a kiss from a prince). so obviously, parallel to the main series, within the movie kagami must have gotten to know tendou better (which probably happened offscreen).

hiyori was set in the movie as kagami's love interest, which felt weird bc in the main series it's her brother tendou that kagami seems interested in. she was also set in the movie to die and cause manpain which is another thing i hate about kabuto. she is the movie's parallel to tsurugi, another friendly worm who dies in a really depressing way that fucks up the rest of the characters for approximately 2 episodes before never being mentioned again. hell, i dont remember what happened to tadokoro in the movie, but he was a friendly worm who survived the series. but i think the guy who randomly stole zecters for like an episode (who WASN'T tendou) was also a friendly worm and he died protecting a kid i think. so shoji yonemura needs to sort out how the hell he feels about worms bc theres a lot of problematic stuff coded into those deaths.

worms are from outer space (xenophobia) and take on the appearances of everyday people (xenophobia, transphobia, ableism). the only ones who "get" to be happy regret being worms and pay with their lives for the troubles the invading worms have caused (theres too many problems to unpack here but let me mention what the celluloid closet was about: how, for a long time, gay people in movies were only ever allowed to be the villains, resent their entire existences, and die to atone for being who they were). in the main series hiyori lives because she didnt want to be a worm and bc she's the protagonist's sister. she was part of the main trio in the beginning and its some kind of unspoken taboo not to kill any of the main trio in a kamen rider show. ofc ghost breaks this immediately in ep 1 but i digress.

for someone who gave some excellent found family themes, shoji yonemura also gave us oodles of heartbreak. there was that whole sideplot abt gon finding her family and forgetting her time spent with older brother figure daisuke after the meteor destroyed shibuya. the part where daisuke fought the worms off to protect gon but then stood by gon in clock up mode wishing he could say goodbye.... i Cried actual tears about that.

i could go on but now im sad abt kabuto. i love and hate it in equal measures

who is the big spoon/little spoon Jaden is the little spoon!! he prefers being the big spoon tbh he likes curling up against bastions fuckin ripped back but jaden always falls asleep first because he has to get this twelve hours or else he will be a grumpy boy but bastion?? bastion stays up all night drinking coffee and doing god knows what bc he’s the type of guy thats like ‘hey jaden im gonna go read a bit before i got to bed’ and then he fuckin stays up all night because he has no self control lmao so when it’s like 3am and he’s finally put down his book or finished dicking around on the computer he finally gets in bed and he doesnt want to wake up his husband (yes theyre married in my mind ok im love them) so he just lays down and pulls the human kuriboh to his chest and falls asleep 

what is their favorite non-sexual activity the standard answer is Card Games but besides dool masters they like to go on drives and look at stars and talk abt whatever. bastion is a chemical engineer and jaden’s his professional duelist trophy husband so they dont get to be together as much as they want bc jaden’s tournament schedule so when they’re together they gotta make it count u know so bastion will pick jaden up from the airport and they’ll just start driving out of the city talking about DM or what bastion’s been up to or whatever’s going through jaden’s mind (an enigma lmao) and then when there are no more streetlights to make it difficult to see the stars they’ll pull over and lay on the hood and cuddle and keep talking. it’s like 4am before they finally go home and since they’re going to sleep at the same time jaden finally gets his chance to be the big spoon 

who uses all the hot water in the morning getting jaden to shower is a fucking struggle he’s like a cat. living in the slifer dorm made him accustomed to being a generally gross person in general so he lives off dry shampoo and body spray so he doesn’t smell like hassleberry after a workout so that leaves bastion to take all of the water because he showers every morning after his run and insists on h is hair being perfect and well taken care of. like the guy has at least five different hair care products in the shower at all times while jaden, even though he’s dumb thick rich, buys that 3-in-1 crap he and syrus used to make stretch for a month back in college. jaden is also known to stick his kuriboh hair under the sink and shake it out like a dog because he is a gross boy that usually gets up about ten minutes before he has to leave so there’s no time for an actual shower and we’ve gotten away from the actual question but the tldr is bastion stands under the hot water he’s got one of those mirrors to shave in the shower while he’s doing his deep conditioning treatment and has a pore strip on his nose for beautiful ™ skin 

what they order from take out this one ties in a lot to my sageshipping BrOTP headcanons (on god there needs to be a brotp ask so i can scream to the world my love for bastion/alexis friendship) but the bit of background is that bastion and alexis would always order from this indian place that was open real late at night when they were in grad school together (no delivery at duel academy cause its an island u know) so it has a special place in his heart. jaden is a wimp when it comes to spice but since bastion loves it they order it anyway and the people that deliver the food know to make it wimpy baby spicy for jaden so he doesn’t end up sweating half his body weight up and crapping out lava four hours later 

what is the most trivial thing they fight over oh god they dont fight a lot because they love and appreciate each other’s eccentricities but if they’re going to fight its going to be over who’s doing the driving. they both love cars, bastion likes taking it apart and modifying them and whatnot and jaden likes the aesthetique (though his aesthetique is painting flames on a corolla jaden u lil shit smh) and they both like to go fast so when they go out they bitch abt who gets to drive. bastion tells jaden he doesnt appreciate the feel of the machine and jaden says bastion drives like a fucking old man so they end up settling the matter with rousing game of rock paper scissors 

who does most of the cleaning NEITHER OH MY GOD theyre both total slobs. bastion’s desk and home office is covered in his notebooks and duel monster cards, his walls covered with god knows what (formulas, dates, to-do lists, grocery lists) the guy just grabs the sharpie and starts writing because he’s afraid of forgetting something if he doesnt get it down right then. jaden lives in filth he has three day old bowls of cereal at his desk and uses used napkins as tissues he is certifiably NASTY. anyway they hire a housekeeper to make sure the entire house doesnt fall into disarray and she’s like their surrogate mother making sure they eat more than takeout and coffee and making sure the house smells nice. they call her Mama Cheryl (good middle aged mom name) and she’s the embarrassing mom at jadens local tournaments the kind that prints out huge pictures of his face and wears shirts with Neos on them and cheers for her boy v loudly. again we’re away from the question but i have a lot of headcanons abt this i’ll probs put in my dissertation lol 

what has a season pass in their DVR hmmm this is an interesting one…i like to think jaden loves crime shows because they’re heroes and he likes watching the good guys ™ win in the end. his favorite show is psych (which u all should watch its hilarious) but since that ended a while ago he’s been in to criminal minds and SVU because he likes watching the really diabolical criminals get caught. bastion never knew his mans was into such dark stuff until he opened the season pass thingy and got quite the heart attack because he thought jaden was all butterflies and flowers and funny stuff but bastion had to learn the duality of man the hard way. bastion doesn’t watch television that much but his guilty pleasure is vikings on the history channel and stuff on the discovery channel because he loves learning what a nerd 

who controls the netflix queue jaden is the one that likes to watch netflix the most but i wouldnt say he’s in control per se. they’re usually down for watching what each other likes but in the end jaden will sometimes end up superseding bastion because dammit bas we are not watching a documentary about the dead sea scrolls you dont even believe in god and bastions like fine youre cute we can watch Castle (even though thats not on netflix but i wish it were) 

who calls up the super/landlord when the heat’s not working jaden. jaden all the way. bastion brings up a a wikihow article about how to fix the hvac system and he’s like I CAN FIX THIS and jadens like ily babe but you work with chemicals not with this kind of thing ur gonna break it like the time u tried to fix the sink and fuckin clogged the shit out of it we are calling Cheryl and Cheryl’s like jaden im a housekeeper call someone who actually does this for a living. anyway while theyre waiting for the professionals to get there bastion tries to demonstrate he knows what he’s doing he is smort by writing the steps and shit on the wall and jadens like youre so cute but no dont touch the heating system. he has to distract his lil nerd by asking him about what deck he should use for his next tournament or what the probability of drawing three polymerizations on the first turn is and bastion loves talking about math so jaden keeps asking questions until the system is fixed (he doesnt remember much of bastions mathematical explanations but bastion looks so cute with his eyes all bright and shiny talking about statistics) 

who leaves their stuff around BOTH they are slobs. jadens a bit worse if we’re being honest because while bastion leaves his papers and cards around schmaden schmuki leaves his underwear and food and cups in the living room and is prone to stripping off his clothes for one reason or another and just laying on the couch watching ESPN with his goddamn pants on the floor and saying they were constricting his knees or some shit when bastion asks why he feels the need to be half naked all the time. bastion had his own room in college so he doesnt quite understand why jadens comfortable just answering the door with a trail of clothing behind him because most people that dont know him assume he’s been getting bizzay but nah he just be Like That

who remembers to buy the milk jaden do because he drinks milk in his coffee. bastion drinks it black so if theres no milk its like eh whatever but jaden is a mess without his caffeine and he hates how bitter and gross it is when theres no milk in it so even if jaden’s not the one going to the grocery store he’ll write it on the wall so bastion will remember it because his mans dont check his texts that often but anything on that wall he fuckin remembers and jaden doesnt understand why he be Like That 

who remembers anniversaries both! they are dumb thick in love with each other and they like to plan little things to do for the anniversary of their first date, when they made it official, their wedding, etc. jaden is much more extravagant and will do something like jump on the bed until bastion wakes up and then drag him out for breakfast and get atticus to sing a really off-key renditions of classic love songs and bastion blushes so hard and its so cute it should be criminal lmao. bastion will get jaden a cute little gift like one of those pictures where the artist takes a photo and paints it so they can hang it on their wall. or bastion will fine tune his duel disk or get him a new card for his deck. they are in big gay love and i love them so much
