Odin’s Hypocrisy Translated
youtube
Odin to Loki: “Everywhere you go there is war, murder and death.”
My commentary: Hypocrite much!
Odin: “All this, because Loki desires a throne.”
My commentary: He says this while sitting on the throne of privilege himself while Loki is in the chains of slavery.
Loki: “It is my birthright.”
My commentary: Like I said, Odin dangled the glory of rulership over his head while pitting Loki and Thor against each other for it.
Odin: “Your birthrighT, was to DIE! …as a child. Cast out on a frozen rock.”
Translation: I was going to kill you when you were a mere baby and I regard your home realm as nothing more than a “frozen rock.” Again, hinting at my racism and lack of remorse for the genocide of your people.
Odin to Loki: “If i had not taken you in, you would not be here now to hate me.”
Translation: If I had just murdered you when you were a baby then you would not be here now exposing my lies to everyone and making me look like an unsuitable king and abusive kidnapping monster.
Odin to Loki: “Frigga is the only reason you’re still alive and you will never see her again.”
Translation: Unlike me, Frigga is remorseful for lying to you and I must keep her happy or else she may go rogue and expose me for who I really am to the Asgardian people and I don’t want to lose my throne of power and control.
Odin to Loki: “You will spend the rest of your days in the dungeon.”
Translation: I can’t kill you so this is the second best option, hide my victim in the dungeon or else he cries “me too” and my rulership is threatened.
Loki to Odin: “And what of Thor, you will make that witless oaf king as I rot in chains?”
My commentary: Yes of course! Thor is his only son and Odin is too narcissistic to let the Asgardian people live free without rulership, the people must be under the thumb of the Odinson bloodline.
Odin to Loki: “Thor must strive to undo the damage you have done, and will bring order to the nine realms, and then yes, he will be king.”

writeblr intro ♡ flowerprose
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hi there! call me krys. i'm a libra sun, in my late 20s, and i love to escape into writing. ultimately, my goal is to finish my novel, namesake, by the end of march, revise it throughout april, and spend the rest of 2023 querying until i land an agent.
please note that this blog is a side-blog. i follow, reply, like, and send asks from @peresephones!
greek mythology, fairy tales, science fiction, and fantasy have always burrowed closely within my heart, and really shaped the sort of writer i am now.
i chose my username because i write in what others have described as a "flowery, lyrical, or poetic” style.
a little about me: i recently started work at a new job that i love. i have two tabby cats who happen to be sisters and gorgeously precious. my fondness for flowers and plants tends to leak into my writing, more obnoxiously in namesake than anywhere else.
for me, writeblr is a sense of community and i love getting to read another person's craft and talk with them about their process. i'm less receptive to asks these days bc of how busy i am, but i do try to send out asks whenever i see games flooding my dash!
i'm also gay and will probably favour your female characters above all else.
you are always welcome to tag me in tag games or add me to a tag list of your wip if we are mutuals. (in fact, tagging me is a lifesaver bc i can't always check the dash anymore and i'm prone to missing things!) i'm not stingy about who i follow, although i personally try not to follow or engage with minors.
favourite books: lullabies for little criminals by heather o'neill, the girls by emma cline, circe and the song of achilles by madeline miller, all the ugly and wonderful things by bryn greenwood, the princess bride by william goldman, deathless by catherynne m. valente, we are okay by nina lacour, fangirl by rainbow rowell, her body and other parties by carmen maria machado, bunny and 13 ways of looking at a fat girl by mona awad, sharp objects by gillian flynn, writers & lovers by lily king, son of a trickster and dogs in winter by eden robinson, poison study trilogy by maria v. snyder, on earth we’re briefly gorgeous and night sky and exit wounds by ocean vuong, and lastly, red hood and damsel by elana k. arnold.
favourite writers: anne carson, madeline miller, heather o'neill, louise gluck, emma cline, gillian flynn, leigh bardugo, elana k. arnold, richard siken, eden robinson, mona awad, ocean vuong, and maria v. snyder.

summary: a hades and persephone myth retelling in which kore, newly dead, is taken to the underworld to rot as mortals do. when hades discovers she is the godly offspring of his older siblings, he tricks her into eating pomegranate seeds and siphons her abilities into his own domain, unleashing a curse that ultimately causes him to start to decay.

at home, with graves 🪦💀🥀🐺🌒⚰️
summary: Nearly eight years prior, Lovey and Olly were rescued from a man they called “Bishop”, a serial killer who imprisoned their mother and raised them like his own. In the present day, a documentary about Bishop and his infamous slayings starts filming in their hometown. As the twins near their eighteenth birthday, true crime enthusiasts begin to reach out, requesting intimate insight of what really happened in Bishop’s cabin. While their grandfather, their now sole guardian, slowly loses his battle to grief, Lovey starts to keep track of how much of Bishop was implanted in Olly, and how to avoid the fate of a victim.

BOOK RECS
Okay, so lots of people wanted this and so, I am compiling a list of my favourite books (both fiction and non-fiction), books that I recommend you read as soon as humanly possible. In the meantime, I’ll be pinning this post to the top of my blog (once I work out how to do that lmao) so it will be accessible for old and new followers. I’m going to order this list thematically, I think, just to keep everything tidy and orderly. Of course, a lot of this list will consist of historical fiction and historical non-fiction because that’s what I read primarily and thus, that’s where my bias is, but I promise to try and spice it up just a little bit.

*ages vary from verse to verse, merely using her usual base as a jumping point for age gaps in children.
further headcanons below the cut !
the family has always been fairly well off - they come from ‘old money’ and live in the same house ( though renovated ) they’ve held since the 1600s.
located in natchitoches, louisiana, charles was once mayor of the quaint town before running for higher political positions, now comfortably in a senate position. cynthia is a school teacher.
charles & cynthia met in college - they got married after only six months, and less than a year later christopher was born.
the parents have always supported all of their children, whether their interests lay in academics, art or otherwise.
giving all of their children the CJ initials started as a joke when they gave birth to connor - their original intentions was to have three children, a small unit of five altogether. charlotte and subsequent children ( specifically courtney ) were surprises. whoops !
they have a huge extended family. charles is the middle of four brothers, and cynthia has two sisters and three brothers. occasions - holidays, parties, etc. - tend to be hosted at the jackson family home, as they have the largest family out of all the ‘first generation’ children.
combined, there are probably around thirty cousins from all sides. now that they’re all in their 20s / 30s, the second generation has begun having children, creating the third generation.
the ‘cj’ name is limited to specifically charles/cynthia. other family members are normal.
christopher & charlotte have always been very close - while connor is closer in age to charlotte, chris was the one who looked out for her and the two tend to travel together when one moves somewhere new.
connor & caroline are also very close - while christopher and charlotte were the ‘wild children’, the two of them took to their studies and planned to change the world, just in very different ways.
there’s a slight disconnect between the ‘original four’ and ‘new four’. while charlotte is close to the twins, carson and courtney are so much younger than christopher and connor that while they love one another, they don’t know each other very well.
that being said, absolutely any of them would go to war for the other. though there may be a 16 year gap between christopher and courtney, they’re siblings and family has always been incredibly important to all jackson children.
caroline was the first to marry - she met cecilia while protesting in washington dc, and the two adopted a child from africa while traveling the world trying to help where they could.
cameron, or ‘cam’, is the only next generation jackson child thus far.
caroline is also the only vegan in a family of carnivores - she tends to rant about the meat industry during barbecues, which usually results in christopher and carson teaming up to dunk her in the pool.
the twins left the south as soon as they could. they traveled to manhattan to attend nyu together, and do moderately well on their own in the photography and modeling industry.
the family is big on travel. while they didn’t get a chance to go many places as a family unit when the kids were growing up, all of the children love to explore and travel.
charlotte prefers the mediteranian area of europe, and goes there frequently for inspiration for her art.
caroline and her wife cecila often go to developing nations to lend a hand where they can.
the twins will go anywhere once - they’ve taken on their fathers ability to network easily, and have been around the world just by making new friends and connections.
carson prefers to travel by car, and loves going cross country to visit family and friends during summer breaks.
carson plans on being a guitarist in a band. education is very important to cynthia, specifically, however, so he’s begrudingly attending ug before he can go live his rock star life.
charlotte understands his pain, and while she attended pratt in new york, she too just wanted to ‘create’ instead of suffering through school. however, the contacts she’s made have helped her, and she tries to tell him this to encourage him staying in school.
courtney was an absolute surprise. cynthia and charles believed carson would be the last, but they’re happy with their daughter who’s determined to follow in charles’ footsteps and eventually become ‘the first female president’.

And the fire fades away
Fear begins decay
It’s almost a new day...
After the helicopters carried away the super-siren Logan and the bodies of James Armstrong and Skylar Monaghan, the little, once quiet, town of Shadow Falls starts to put the pieces back together.
The following information is known OOC. Characters in play do not have this information unless it was given to them during the event in play or stated otherwise in the recap. This is to inform players of secret information happening in the world of the roleplay and to anticipate further plot drops or contribute ideas for plot drops down the line.
So, what happened? Why did it happen here?
Who was responsible for the contaminated blood?
The blood tablets were provided by a private conglomerate known as the Hamlin Group. You can find more information about them {here}. They have been working to create a commercialized, mass-produced blood substitute and were debuting a sample batch to a few locations nationwide during Halloween events to test consumer responses. Unfortunately, the batch sent to Shadow Falls had adverse side-effects after a few hours from consumption. Those who were declared, therefore wearing government-issued daylight rings, were simply made ill and docile. Those who were undeclared, and therefore had to find black market daylight rings, suffered illness but were closer to a feral state of mind. The illness sparked a need to feed to counteract the infection, allowing them to heal from the virus faster. It was a natural reaction to combat the foreign virus.
The government-issued rings are laced with a chemical to encourage docility and self-control. This is to help control the vampire population and minimize attacks or overeating. The black market rings, however, do not come with this chemical and leaves vampires in a more natural state, allowing more space for their predatory instincts. Your character may notice the difference in vampire reactions to the tablets. It’s likely (and encouraged!) that characters will start to speculate why some reacted violently while others remained in control. However, unless investigated properly, no one would immediately think it had to do with the daylight ring differences. If you would like to further investigate this plot and have your character research this mystery, please message the main.
Who were Logan Delaney and Skylar Monaghan?
Not much is known about the personal lives of these individuals, but they were volunteer test subjects for a study done by the Hamlin Group. The Hamlin Group has been secretly branching out beyond consumer goods for both human and supernatural customers, and been working on providing goods and weaponry for the government. Part of their research had been to create a serum to create super-soldiers.
While supernaturals are allowed to serve in some branches of the military in the United States, others have more or less power in foreign militia. In order to compete with foreign militaries, the United States secretly commissioned the Hamlin Group to create sample soldiers derived from the genes that made up organic supernaturals. They had been working on a serum for decades, starting with the one developed by Dr. Quinten Huskby that spawned sirens and harpies. Over the years, they were able to develop two separate batches that could turn humans into modified versions of supernaturals. Logan and Skylar were part of the third batch that were promised to be stronger than any supernatural of the species they were derived from. Skylar was derived from the werewolf gene and designed to be stronger than the most powerful wolves: alphas from long lineages of alphas. Logan was a modified siren, a strengthened and focused genetic make-up. He was designed with his abilities to leave humans unaffected but to target supernaturals. Only his powers still do not work on those with the siren or harpy gene, which the Hamlin Group is looking to remedy so that other sirens and harpies will too, be affected.
Why did Logan use his song to draw people into the lake?
Logan and Skylar were sent into Shadow Falls to test their abilities in a contained town and pull potential test subjects for future scientific endeavors. Logan was testing his song and creating a distraction for Skylar to finish his part of their mission.
It was to see how wide a net his abilities would cast. They were able to confirm a batch of randomized humans were unaffected by his song, but sirens and harpies were also unaffected. It also allowed for enough chaos for Skylar to isolate local alpha, James Armstrong.
What was Skylar’s mission?
The only way for Skylar to test his strength and abilities was to go against an Alpha with plenty of experience. The Armstrongs had been pack-minded and on the record since the 1800s, and had an alpha bloodline since the early 20th century. James was an ideal target to take down and see if he could overpower. There was a second part to his mission as well:
Should he succeed in overpowering James, Skylar was to inject James with an anti-supernatural serum. This is a remedy to cure the supernatural gene and is in its early stages still. They did not know its adverse effects, but decided it would be a good way to gain a specimen and do an autopsy to determine a cause of death to improve the next serum batch. Once James was injected, his body had a negative reaction and his body was left limp. Unfortunately for Skylar, he met an unexpected end at the hands of Kelsie Woods, who found him standing over her fiance’s body. She used a silver bullet laced with wolfsbane that she acquired illegally by Order of the Unseen member, Nikolina Skala. The combination of a werewolf’s true weaknesses was able to kill Skylar on the spot, thus demonstrating a flaw in his modified gene.
What is happening with the Armstrong pack now?
When Skylar defeated and injected James, the title of alpha passed down to him. However, when Kelsie shot Skylar, she took the alpha title from him. Kelsie Woods is the new alpha of the Armstrong pack. Nicholas Robinson still holds his position as a pack beta and it is rumored that James Armstrong’s mother, Dianna Armstrong, is coming back to play a more active role in the pack in order to ensure its survival. The pack is still intact, but it grieving and reeling from the loss of their former leader.
What is happening with everyone else in town?
People are still recovering from any injuries or traumas they’ve endured from the event and trying to find their normal again. Several town residents have picked up their things and left. The Munroe family, who had always lived in the political middle when it came to supernatural versus human conflict, decided to wasn’t safe to keep their family in Shadow Falls and moved away. Tegan and Alexander Matheson followed suit, opting to find a new city to start anew and live a peaceful existence. Nina Skala took the first mission from the Order of the Unseen she could get her hands on and fled town.  In the aftermath, Mateo San Roman and his niece, Renata, also left for their own safety.
The Mayor released a cryptic statement, claiming the police in town were investigating to find who was responsible for such a madhouse. The Hamlin Group, because their name was tied to the blood tablets, footed any hospital bills of victims from the faulty product. They also sent gift baskets, large-sum gift cards, and, depending on the extremity of the case, awarded victims with a large sum of money to keep quiet (about $5,000.) As for the Siren on French Broad, there is no evidence or inklings to tie the Hamlin Group to the incident. As of now, local authorities are suspecting the Four Horsemen because higher-ups continue to push that narrative, despite a lack of evidence. Additionally, if your character is law-enforcement, they might be investigating this incident and find themselves gaslighted by NPC higher-ups. If you would like to explore this plot, please message the main for more details.
That wraps up our first plot-heavy event! We hope you feel inspired to engage in major plot-driven threads and plots with your characters. If this event inspired ideas for future ideas, canons for the world our characters live in, or ideas for smaller plots, don’t hesitate to message the main. Check out the gossip blog for a comprehensive recap of smaller plots and happenings with each character! Additionally, please check the OOC blog and be sure to take our post-event survey we will be posting soon.
Thank you everyone for participating in the event and making new connections. We hope you had just as much fun as we did!

Movies I watched this week - 22
Ramin Bahrani’s masterpiece Goodbye Solo.
Here is the first scene:
A grumpy old white man gets into a night cab in Winston-Salem, NC and hires the friendly Senegalese driver to take him out to a mountain cliff outside town. Solo, the driver, jokes with him “Why? Are you gonna jump off?” but the old man doesn’t answer, and the smile disappear from the driver’s face...
9/10
✴️
Eighth Grade - A coming of age story of an introverted and awkward 13 year old girl who struggles with anxiety. She lives with her dad whom she locks out even though he’s well-meaning and supportive.
It’s all about social acceptance, screens and self-doubt.
I can see Adora there in a year or two, confused, uncertain about her life and having to come to terms with the “friends” around her.
Real, sad and hard to watch! 7+/10
✴️
Unexpected discovery of the week:
Black honey ( דבש שחור ), A biography of a poet I never heard of, Abraham Sutzkever, who is now regarded as the greatest Yiddish poet of all time, and is even considered by some as the “most important Israeli Poet ever”.
According to the documentary, he led a truly remarkable life, from his birth in Siberia, surviving hell on earth at the Vilna ghetto during World War II and being rescued by an order of Stalin himself, testifying at the first Nuremberg trials, and living in Tel Aviv for over 50 years, practically unknown, because he refused to switch writing his poetry from Yiddish to Hebrew. Astounding!
✴️
2 with Irrfan Khan (who died exactly a year ago):
✳️✳️✳️ In The Lunchbox, an unloved Mumbai wife sends her husband home cooked meals via the local dabbawallas food carrying system, but her Dabba is being delivered by mistake to a lonely, older widower.
“The wrong train can lead you to the right station”
A tender, quiet story about longing and loneliness from first-time director Ritesh Batra (who later directed ‘Our Souls At night’).
- Best film of the week.
This movie caused me to realize something about this film-reviewing project:
Right now I am mostly attracted to simple, earnest and compassionate stories about “real” people with “real” emotions. So many of the films I choose are like that: Wistful and restrained.
✳️✳️✳️ Puzzle (2018) was Irrfan Khan’s final English-language role before his death. It tells a soft and atmospheric story about an undervalued housewife who slowly discovers herself after she receives a 1000 pc. jigsaw puzzle for her birthday. 7/10
✴️
Won’t you be my neighbor? - a kind biography of the inspirational Mr. Rogers, created in 2018, a hateful and terrible year.
✴️
After discovering ‘The Station Agent’ and ‘Win Win’ last week, I went through the rest of Tom McCarty’s films (the only one I couldn’t find is ‘The Visitor’):
✳️✳️✳️ First in line, Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made. I can imagine that this is a perfect film for 12 year olds. A unique boy who refuses to be ‘normal’ runs a detective agency, “Total Failure Inc.”, with an imaginary polar bear partner in wacky Portland, OR. (Photo above)
Surprised to see Craig Robinson as a 100% empathetic school counselor! 9/10
✳️✳️✳️ Re-watch (Fifth time? sixth?...) - Spotlight: Pitch perfect newsroom procedural story of the investigative team at the Boston Globe as they uncovered the massive child sex abuse of the Catholic Church.
10/10
✳️✳️✳️ The Cobbler - I can’t understand why this film was Adam Sandler's biggest box-office flop, or why it got on so many Worst Films Of 2014 lists.
A warm and lovely fairy tale (especially the first half) about a shoe maker (  סַנדְלָר ) who learn to "Live in someone else's shoes". 5+
✳️✳️✳️ Pixar’s UP - With a story by Tom McCarty. There are 2 stories here: The very emotional relationship between Carl, the Spencer Tracy character, and his wife Ellie, and the South American adventures. I remembered the first part vividly, and didn’t realize that they already reached Paradise Falls after 30 minutes:  The rest of the movie was centered around the fights with explorer Charles Muntz.
The first 10 minutes opening scene, though...
✳️✳️✳️ Finally, One million Arm, a Tom McCarty’s script turned into a disappointing Disney production: So formulaic that I knew to the minute when Alan Arkin is going to pop up again.
✴️
First watch: What Happened, Miss Simone? A biography of the second greatest female singer, who also suffered the tragic fate of being born black and female in America.
✴️
The Rider, Chloé Zhao’s magnificent film before Nomadland.
Dark, authentic and powerful “Western” story of a rodeo rider who had a brain injury while falling from a horse (in real life). Played by all non-actors from an Indian reservation in the Badlands of South Dakota.
One of Obama’s 2018 favorite films.
"Play the cards you are dealt, Let it go."
✴️
Hated in the nation - Another re-watch of my all-time favorite “Black Mirror” episode (I actually mentioned it on the first blog post of this project - so less than 6 months ago!). Because of “Puzzle” (above), I returned to see Kelly Macdonald as DCI Karin Parks (together with her side-kick “Blue Coulson”).
A perfect thriller! I would binge on a series led by these two!
10/10
✴️
“...From the Buddhists to the whores...”
Asleep & Awake: Spend 35 minutes in the bathroom of 81 year old Henry Miller
✴️
Young Fronkensteen - with Inspector Kemp, whose German accent is so thick that even his own countrymen cannot understand him - and Gene Hackman as the blind hermit.
“Hallo. Vould you like to have a roll in ze hay?”
✴️
Margaret is an over-long (2.5 hours), meandering story about a privileged and self-absorbed Manhattan teen who witnesses a woman being killed by a bus. It’s attention-seeking and unfocused with a dozen unrelated sub-plots, each going on its own tangent and leading nowhere. It starts on the wrong foot by casting 29 year old Anna Paquin as a teenager who bickers and argues with everybody around her, who also exhibit breakdowns in communication and aggressive assholery all around. Unpleasant slog! Even Mark Ruffalo gets to play an unsympathetic character.
✴️
H.R. Giger’s 1979 wet dream - Alien. Also, Sigourney Weaver’s first role. (She’s 71 years old now). A group of incompetent space explorers / scientists discover some alien organism in space, and do everything possible not to protect themselves. Overrated, empty horror. 2/10
- - - - -
Throw-back to the  art project:
Adora with Mr. Rogers and with Daniel Tiger.
Nina Simone Adora.
Young Frankenstein Adora.
Alien Adora.

(My complete movie list is here)
