I never understood Rowling’s statement about killing Lupin and Tonks, leaving Teddy without parents. It was something in line of war orphans and she wanted to show us how war is indiscriminate or something like that and I remember thinking at the time ‘What are you talking about? Besides Muggleborns, Harry’s generation and those who were year-two above him are war generation, good number of them orphans either without one or both parents. Or the family they come from lost like aunt/uncle(s), cousins etc. So it wasn’t really necessary for us to see repeated demonstration of it, literally the main character is a war orphan.’

in the entire series there are about 15 poc characters (angelina johnson, alicia spinnet, bane the centaur, blaise zabini, cho, dean, duncan inglebee, fred weasley ii, gweong jones, kingsley shacklebolt, lavender brown, lee jordan, padma and parvati patil, and roxanne) and only a handful of them even have speaking lines. there are a total of 772 characters. only 15 have been worth being mentioned as poc, even less than that even have speaking roles. gonna let that speak for itself.

rowling literally fucking apologized for snape’s death and i’m like, the death of a white supremacist parallel, bullying, prejudiced, narrow-minded man who fucking hated kids that he worked with and didn’t give a damn about the child of the woman that he was fucking obsessed over (do not give me that “but he was james’s son so snape wasn’t obligated to like harry” bullshit, snape could totally have had harry close to him as his last tie to lily and could have tried to protect harry as that would have been lily’s wish). i understand that it’s tradition to apologize for some death on the anniversary of the war or whatever but maybe you should apologize for deaths of characters that weren’t such assholes???

but, on to the other wizarding schools. don’t tell me that latin america would have one fucking school for all of latin america. like, do you not understand that latin america is a mix of spanish, indigenous, african, and asian with different forms of ancient practices and brujeria that wouldn’t mix well with each other??? brazil doesn’t even fucking speak spanish!!!!!! brazil, with it’s large ass population of portuguese-speakers would need their own school while the caribbean would need their own school (if not two, because don’t tell me that a school full of cubans, puerto ricans, and dominicans wouldn’t be fucking insane and need to be divided), mexico would probably need their own school, and central and south american would need at least two other schools. and that’s just latin america. you can imagine how many schools asia would need what with most of southeast asia not being able to share a school (china and north korea would definitely have their own schools, don’t fight me), south asia having completely different practices than southeast, and the middle east would have to divide several schools between each other. and africa would need several schools. and australians??? jk never even mentioned them if i remember correctly????

it was adorable

but one member was being a bully to the others, so after multiple warnings she finally said “fine i quit”, followed by a second, LONG message saying our group was shitty and she never liked us anyway and she was glad to be leaving

and my friend and i were like “...okay welp don’t let the door hit you on ur way out”

and then the next day she tried to #expose us by saying that we’d kicked her out with no reason

so after that died down, this girl (and i’m being 100% serious this actually happened) made a sideblog dedicated to HATEFIC of our rp

we were like “wtf” but also kind of laughing our asses off

the other members also found this hilarious so we all just reblogged the drabbles and added our own commentary and improvements

then she deactivated and we never heard from her again

it’s been like 4 years and sometimes my friend and i talk about it and we’re still like “...did that actually happen????”

I cringe whenever I remember some things Rowling said considering worldbuilding of Harry Potter universe. I have seen some HP fics with elaborate, thought through worldbuilds.

But then for canon you have things like 'deletus shit' before toilets were a thing apparently, wizarding population of Britain is estimated to 3000 and of that 1/3 is at Hogwarts (this makes my fairly well educated ass wince), teachers threatening to kill your pet in experiment to see if you got your school work right on first attempt and giving students detention in places headmaster has forbidden them from entering on first night at Hogwarts, absolutely no explanation of how economy of wizarding world works, no saying if wizardkind has something akin to elementary schools so children can learn to read and write since at Hogwarts they have to write essays right in year one.

The judicial system sucks, wizengamot is vague af about its powers and where it sits in governmental hierarchy, who employs wizardkind besides Ministry, Gringotts and Hogwarts (at least in Britain), Voldemort upon his body reassembling cannot even grow hair but can produce sperm cells 🤢.

Magic interferes with technology but never really elaborated how and to what degree, my personal opinion has always been that wizardkind simply don't give a fuck even though some aspects of modern technology and life of Muggles would be useful in magic world (and no, I don't mean internet).

Love potions are a thing to giggle about and sold over the counter like they're aspirin.

Child abuse, unless it results in some really bad things, is shruggable even though obscurus has been introduced as a result of child wizards and witches suppressing their magic due to abuse.

Anyway, write whatever AUs you want and worldbuild, it will have more continuity and sense than canon.

Fantastic Beasts movies are pretty to look at but they wreck all kinds of mess on overall canon. 

Dumbledore being the prime example. From that shit with another sibling, who is an obscurus btw, apparently he has no knowledge about (I realize this is probably just Grindelwald lying to make a mess for his former lover-whatever) to carrying imense regret and guilt about his sister’s death and making blood pact with Grindelwald. 

Facts Rowling herself wrote that for some reason then carry absolutely no weight when fifty and something years later he decides to place Harry Potter knowingly in enviroment that is a perfect petri dish for an obscurus. 

“An Obscurus grows in the absence of love as a dark twin, an only friend.”

Like, you cannot introduce something like this in retrograde and expect it to stick.

Mahoutokoro for Japan and Koldovstoretz for Russia. Where are the rest of the witches and wizards going to? Moon? 

Durmstrang Institute does not let in Muggleborns, so where do they go? Beaubaxtons? Also, it is willing to take in international students but mainly takes in students from northern and eastern Europe. So what magical school services central and southern Europe? 

How do you cram three wizarding schools in Europe but don’t cover all countries? 

Giving off handed comment how small schools exist(ed) but never on permanent basis is not a satisfying answer.
