While Novhen is normally grateful for any chance for a break, if he has any pre-established obligations, he'll still try to attend those as long for as he's able to move around. It's one thing to skip on reviewing some documents and another to postpone a meeting with someone's traveled from the other side of the arling because he's feeling a little down

Also of note:

Novhen would definitely profess the healing properties of pickled eggs. He would be less enthused about the whiskey method, but there was one time when he was sick that Kader made him take shots of it. He was out and about again by the next day, yes, but he swears it was the eggs that did it

Pavle demands a "me day" at the slightest sign of illness. He will be curling up in bed with a never ending supply of hot chicken paprika soup, thank you very much! He hasn't forgotten his pedigree, that much is for sure...

Radka will bitch and moan. She'll also continue to work through the cold for better or worse. (Worse. It's usually worse. Don't be like Radka. Kvetching is good. Typhoid Mary Simulator is not. Take care of yourself.)

First draft designs for my Orlesian Wardens + Mahariel

Caron is a battlemage who was born the child of two Circle mages. He was raised in a Chantry orphanage until his own magical talents developed at a late age. He was then taken to the Montsimmard Circle where he studied until Grey Wardens arrived looking for a recruit. Several mages volunteered to prove themselves to the visiting Wardens, but Caron was found most worthy of the mantle

Kader is an assassin and extremely prone to sunburn. She's supersitious and wears a painted nazar on each of her pauldrons and several talismans that i will find better rune designs for than just random squiggles. She was traveling as part of a surfacer merchant caravan for most of her life until darkspawn attacked their family wagons. During the scuffle, she and another dwarf were infected with the Taint. A traveling Senior Warden who joined the battle offered to them the Joining ritual, but only Kader survived

Andras is a duelist from Halamshiral and the fifth of six children. His prospects weren’t great, so at age 19, when the Warden-Commander came through Halamshiral, he devised a plot to steal WC’s sword to grab their interest. Miraculously, it worked without a negative consequence. WC took the prank in stride and extended an invitation to join the Grey Wardens which, obviously, was accepted

Mahariel is the only of the Companion-ified Origins to become a Warden outside the HoF Tabris. Their Origin takes place shortly after the conclusion of Nature of the Beast, but they are not Joined until the time of the Landsmeet. The Taint had already coursed through their body for several months at that point, but with the Creators' favor and lots of medicinal tea, they somehow made it long enough to be rewarded with a place in the Order

The thick build up of honey at the bottom of the bottle ensures whatever goes in is tasting of it. Don’t know why it smells vaguely of lavender though.

ANAMED Birim Kütüphanecisi Naz Özkan, bundan tam 1500 yıl önce yaşanan ‘masalsı bir aşk’ı, ‘bugün Ravenna’da San Vitale Bazilikası’nda karşı karşıya bakan iki âşığı, Jüstinyen ve Theodora’yı anlatıyor...

“Benim yolum başka. Seni tanıdıktan sonra anladım bunu. Sevgi de yetmiyormuş. Çok eskiden rastlaşacaktık….”

Umutsuz aşkları anlatmak için en sık kullanılan sözlerden biridir “Vesikalı Yârim” filminde geçen bu replik. Birbirine denk düşmeyen, ayrı yolların yolcusu olan âşıklar, birlikte hiç yazamayacakları bir romanın kollarına düşmemek için çırpınsalar da nafiledir çırpınışları. Lakin bazen hani talih güler ya, ayrı dünyaların insanları olan âşıklar türlü zorluklara, engellemelere, kötü adam ve kadınlara rağmen kavuşurlar ve masal gibi bir aşk yaşarlar bu dünyadan göçmeden önce. İşte böyle masalsı bir aşk bundan tam 1500 yıl önce İmparatorluk’un başkentinde, Makedonya’nın Tauresium köyünde doğan fakat talihinin Konstantinopolis’e savurduğu genç bir adamla, kimi tarihçiye göre Kıbrıs, kimilerine göre ise Suriye doğumlu güzeller güzeli bir kadın arasında yaşanmıştı. Bugün Ravenna’da San Vitale Bazilikası’nda karşı karşıya bakan bu âşıkların adları Jüstinyen ve Theodora’ydı.

Özel Bir Kadın

Jüstinyen için Tanrı’nın hediyesi olarak karşısına çıkan Theodora’nın günümüze kadar gelmiş değişik hayat hikâyeleri vardır. On ikinci yüzyılda yaşamış kronik yazarı Suriyeli Michael’e göre kendisi gibi Monofizit görüşe sahip olan Theodora, bir rahibin kızıydı. Dönemin tarihçisi Prokopius’a göre ise hikâye başkaydı: Konstantinopolis’te altıncı yüzyılda çok meşhur olan araba yarışları dört takım arasında yapılıyordu. Lakin en meşhur iki takım (Maviler ve Yeşiller) arasındaki rekabet, günümüzün Panathinaikos – Olympiakos karşılaşmalarını aratmıyordu. Prokopius’un Anekdota’sına göre Yeşiller’in takımında ‘ayı bakıcısı’ olarak çalışan Akasius’un üç kızı vardı: Komita, Theodora ve Anastasya. Yerinde durmayan acımasız kader ağlarını örüyordu. Ne yazık ki babaları bu üç güzel kızı yetim bırakıp bu dünyadan göçüp gidince anneleri yeniden evlendi. Yeni kocası ev yönetimine katılır, hayvanlara bakar diye düşünen genç kadın zamanla işlerin umduğu gibi gitmediğine şahit oldu. Yeni eşi Yeşiller’in yanında işini kaybettikten sonra aile sefaletle mücadele etti ve bir zaman sonra yardım eli rakip takım Maviler’den geldi. Aile kolay kolay toparlanamasa da sonunda şeytanın bacağını kırdı. Nasıl mı? Dünyalar güzeli Komita sahneye çıkıp şehrin en ünlü fahişelerinden biri olunca. Ablası Komita kadar yetenekli olmasa da Theodora da ablasının izinden gitti ve sahneye çıkıp kısa zamanda “ordu kalıntısı” denen cinsten fahişe ya da “vesikalı” oldu. Çalıştıkları sahnelerde, gittikleri yemekli davetlerde iki kardeş vücutlarını sunarak erkekleri güzellikleriyle mest edip, baştan çıkardı. Theodora, bir zaman sonra günümüzde “burlesque” olarak adlandırılan gösteriler hazırlamaya başladı tiyatroda. Çok zeki olması, keskin nükteleri ile sıyrıldı diğer oyuncuların arasından. Çapkındı elbette, ona âşık olan erkeklerle alay etmeyi sever, ne kendinden ne mesleğinden ne vücudundan utanırdı. Yaşadığı dönemde oyunculuk fahişelikle aynı anlama gelmekte olduğu için toplum tarafından hor görülse de işini bırakmayı bir an bile düşünmedi.

Hayat Theodora’ya küçük sürprizler hazırlıyordu bittabi. Öyle bir an geldi ki özgürlüğüne düşkün, çapkınlar çapkını Theodora mesleğini, ailesini, anılarını Konstantinopolis’te bırakarak aşkının peşinden gitti, ya da sadece yeni bir hayatın… Onu sahneden çekip alan kişi Hekebolos, Libya'daki Pentapolis kentinin yönetimine atanan valiydi ve nüfuslu bir adamdı. Lakin “metres” hayatına daha fazla dayanamadı Theodora, kimsenin prangasına tahammülü yoktu, içine özgürlük korkusu düşmüştü çoktan. Tası tarağı topladığı gibi önce İskenderiye’ye, sonra başkente geri döndü, ve tabii sahnelere… Sahnelerin tozunu attıran Theodora’nın yolu bu sefer de hayatının aşkı Jüstinyen’le kesişti.  

Şanslı Bir Adam

Flavius Petrus Sabbatius ismiyle Konstantinopolis’e gelen genç adamın hayatı, dayısı Justin tarafından evlatlık alınmasıyla değişmişti. Konstantinopolis’te aldığı hukuk ve teoloji eğitimden sonra Exkoubitores (saray muhafızı) olarak çalışan genç adam, İmparator I. Anastasios 518'de öldüğünde imparator olan dayısının yanında yer aldı. Zaman içerisinde Taht Naibi ilan edilen Jüstinyen, konsül olarak da İmparatorluğa hizmet etti. İşte Doğu Roma İmparatorluğu’nun rakipsiz varisi Jüstinyen, yaklaşık olarak 522’de Theodora ile tanıştığında ona deli gibi âşık oldu, sevdiği kadını yanına aldı ve imparator olacağı günü bekledi. 527’de imparator I. Justin ölünce bu iki genç insanın kaderi ve İmparatorluğun da kaderi sonsuza kadar değişti… Corpus Juris Civilis ile hukuk birliği sağlayan Jüstinyen, Kuzey Afrika, İtalya, İspanya, Akdeniz Adaları’nı Konstantinopolis’teki Roma İmparatorluğu’na bağlayarak, kiliseler, su kemerleri inşa ederek, Roma İmparatorluğu’nun ‘restorasyonu’nu (renovatio imperii) ve en önemlisi birliğini sağlamaya çalışarak tarihe adını yazdırdı..

Roma İmpatorluğu’nu yönetmek ateşten bir gömlek gibiydi Jüstinyen ve Theodora için. Bu zorlu yolculuk tozpembe başlamamıştı elbette. Önlerinde aşklarını yaşamalarına değil lakin evlenmelerine ve Theodora’nın “Augusta” olarak Jüstinyen’in yanında mor pelerini ile arz-ı endam etmesine engel olacak durum ve kişiler vardı. Karşılaştıkları ilk sorun Theodora’nın “gayri meşru” kızının durumuydu. Her zaman Theodora’nın kızı olarak kalacaktı ve asla bir prenses olamayacaktı. Fakat Theodora’nın zavallı minik kızından daha ciddi bir sorun vardı: Roma yasaları. Jüstinyen imparator olmadan önce, henüz bir senatörken, evlilikleri senatörlerin sahneye çıkan kadınlarla evlenmelerini yasaklayan kanuna takılmıştı. Ancak I. Justin kadim kanunu kaldırdıktan sonra ve tövbe eden oyuncuların senatörler ile evlenmelerine izin vermesiyle bu sorun çözülmüştü.

Ve hikâyedeki kötü kadın: Prenses Euphemia. “Barbar” bir köle iken Justin ile evlenen, tarihçi Prokopius tarafından eğitimsizliği ile küçük görülen Euphemia, Jüstinyen için hiç uygun bulmamıştı kirli bir geçmişe sahip olan Theodora’yı! Bir Bizans dedikodusuna göre de Euphemia da sahneye çıkan bir oyuncuydu ve Theodora ona hatırlamak istemediği geçmişini hatırlatıyordu. John Barker’a göre önce yasaya daha sonra da prenses Euphemia’nın vetosuna takılan gençlerin izdivacı, Euphemia’nın Hakk’ın rahmetine kavuşmasından sonra 525’te vuku bulmuştu.

İsyan Günlerinde Aşk

Tam huzura erecekken âşıkları sınayan son darbe ise Thedora’nın gönülden bağlı olduğu Maviler’den ve Theodora’nın babasının bir zamanlar hizmetinde bulunduğu Yeşiller’den gelmişti. 13 Ocak günü kalabalık ve öfkeli Konstantinopolis halkı devlet makamlarınca verilen ağır cezalara daha fazla dayanamadı ve Maviler-Yeşiller önderliğinde isyan ateşini Hipodrom’da yaktı. “Nika” sesleriyle galeyana gelen halk Ayasofya’nın yerinde olan bazilikayı yerle bir etti ve Büyük Saray’a yöneldi. Halk eski İmparator Anastasius'un yeğenlerinden birini İmparator olarak ilan edince durum iyice ciddileşti. Theodora ise sanki kaybedeceği bir tahtı, unvanı yokmuşçasına “benim kaybedecek bir şeyim yok” diyerek, soğukkanlılıkla onca devlet görevlisi ve Jüstinyen’in karşısında şu konuşmayı yaptı:

"Belki kadınların, erkekler önünde konuşması ve korkaklara cesaret vermesi doğru değildir. Ama, tehlike anında herkes elinden geleni yapmalıdır. Bence, bu durumda kaçmamız bize bir şey kazandırmaz. Kaçarak kurtulsak bile bunun sonu yoktur. Nasıl olsa dünyaya gelen kişi ölecektir. Hükümdar olan kimse sürgünde yaşayamaz. Ey İmparator! Kaçarak kurtulmak istiyorsan, bunda bir güçlük yok. Hazinen var, gemilerin hazır bekliyor. Ama sarayından ayrıldığın zaman hayatını da yitirmiş olacaksın. Güveneceğin bir yere kaçtığın zaman ölümü güvenliğe tercih edip etmeyeceğini düşün. Bana gelince, eskilerin de dediği gibi erguvani pelerin kefenim olsun!”

Mor pelerinini kefen yapmaya hazır olan Theodora’nın uzattığı eli bırakmaz Jüstinyen. Bu konuşmanın ardından ünlü komutanları Belisarius, kahyası ve generali Narses ve Mundus’u, Hipodrom’da toplanan isyancıların üzerine gönderen Jüstinyen’in ellerine, dönem kaynaklarına göre 30 ila 35 bin civarından insanın kanı bulaşır, isyancıların elebaşı ve bilumum çapulcu idam ettirilir, pek çok mülke el konulur, böylece isyan da son bulur.

Talihsiz Güzel: Amalasuntha

Seven ne yapmaz, hele kıskanç bir kadınsa… Theodora Jüstinyen’in emrindeki herkesten çok kıskanıyordu sevdiği adamı ve elinden geldiğince Kapadokyalı John gibi düşmanlarından koruyordu. Ancak bu kez Theodora’nın karşısındaki rakip yabana atılacak gibi bir biri değildi. Çünkü Amalasuntha ünlü Ostrogotların Kralı Theodorik’in kızıydı. Eşi vefat edince küçük oğlu tahta geçmişti ve kendisi de naibe olmuştu. Eski Roma kültürüyle eğitilmiş olan güzel Kraliçe oğlu Athalaric’i de aynı şekilde yetiştirmeye çalışıyordu. Lakin soylu Gothlar genç Kraliçe’nin yönetiminden huzursuzdu ve ciddi bir tehdit oluşturuyorlardı. Tehditlere daha fazla dayanamayan Kraliçe, Jüstinyen’den yardım istemiş ve Bizans'a göç etmeyi düşündüğünü söylemişti, üstelik yanında büyük Ostrogot hazinesi ile beraber! Theodora gibi eli kolu uzun, her yerde gözü kulağı olan, hatta geceleri bile uyumayan, “vampir gibi gezen (!)” İmparatoriçe’den kaçar mı böyle bir haber? Theodora’ya göre hiçbir erkek reddetmezdi böyle genç, eğitimli ve mevki sahibi bir kadını. Yılanın başını gençken ezmeli düşüncesiyle hareket eden Theodora elini çabuk tuttu, Petrus'u İtalya’ya elçi olarak gönderdi genç kadının canını alması için. Prokopius’un yazdıklarına bakacak olursak Amalasuntha’nın ölümü Theodora’nın ellerinden olmadı. Allah’ın ‘çirkin şansı’ vermediği, çekici Amalasuntha ise kuzeni Theodahad emriyle kapatıldığı hapishanesinde, banyo yaparken bir komploya kurban gitti… Jüstinyen ise ancak Amalasuntha öldürüldükten sonra Theodahad’ın karşısına çıktı ve Ostrogotlar Krallığı ile Doğu Roma İmparatorluğu arasında 535-554 döneminde sürecek uzun Gotlar Savaşı'nı başlattı.

Bir Aşkın Mirası

Bunca ölüme, entrikaya, savaş rağmen yaşadıkları dönemde yaptıkları ile birçok kişinin ahını da alsalar, Jüstinyen ve Theodora adlarını ölümsüz kılacak işler yapmaktan çekinmemişlerdi. Beşinci ve altıncı yüzyılın kronik yazarlarından Malalas’a göre çift yaşadıkları zenginliği diğer insanlarla paylaşmış ve belli bir kesimin sevgisini kazanmışlardı. Antakya’da kiliseler, hamamlar, bazilikalar yaptırmışlar, incilerle süslü haçı şehre bağış olarak göndermişlerdi. Hormisdas Sarayı’nı, 500’e yakın Monofizit rahibi İmparatoriçe’nin finansal desteği altında korumuşlardı.

Theodora ve Jüstinyen’in hiç çocuğu olmadı. Jüstinyen yeğeni II. Justin’i kendinden sonra tahta geçecek kişi olarak seçti ölmeden önce. Jüstinyen 540’larda geçirdiği vebayı da atlatmıştı sevgilisinin yanında. Çağımızın vebası olarak bilinen kanser ise Theodora’yı ayırmıştı Jüstinyen’den. Sevdiği kadının ölümünden sonra 20 yıla yakın bir süre yaşayan Jüstinyen de kendini dine, teolojiye adamıştı ölmeden önce. 565’te vefat ettiğinde bugün Fatih cami olarak bilinen Havariyyun Kilisesi’nde, adı gibi Tanrı’nın ona bahşettiği hediye olan Theodora’sının yanında sonsuzluk uykusuna daldı Büyük Jüstinyen. I missed Awakening so here’s Warden-Commander Nika “If you don’t put proper armor on, I swear I’ll turn this Order around right now” Kader. She’s a sword and shield warrior specializing as berserker / champion. 

Nika Kader is actually an alias she took on after joining the Wardens. Before that, she was Ida Aeducan: Commander of Orzammar’s army, Endrin’s consort and Bhelen’s mother. Bhelen was still a baby when she was exiled after an attempted coup against King Endrin (like mother like son amirite) and her name was all but struck from the record. The people of Orzammar still remember her, but her legacy-- all the soldiers she’d personally trained, the successful incursions on darkspawn she’d led, the sections of the Deep Roads she’d secured-- has been reduced to vague mentions of a treacherous wife and mother and a cautionary tale for the nobles to better scrutinize their consorts.

She survived in the Deep Roads on her own long enough to reach a Legion of the Dead outpost, and then fought by their side for a couple of years before joining a contingent of Orlesian Grey Wardens and leaving for the surface.

Oghren just about loses his McFreaking mind when he figures out who she is, both from the facial tattoos specific to House Aeducan and her distinguishable combat style, but she denies everything. At least at first.

𝙉𝙄𝙆𝘼: 𝙑𝙀𝙍𝙎𝙀𝙎

Nika was born in Orzammar, part of House Kader of the warrior caste. Her mother was a traditionalist through and through, loyal to their House and the King. Her father, however, wanted more. He was an idealist who believed Orzammar could do much better-- their family could do much better-- and he instilled this ambition in his daughter as well. Nika joined the army at an early age, and worked her way up from a mere soldier to Orzammar's army general, impressing even the King with her feats of valor and dutifulness. Young, brilliant, ambitious, addicted to power, she maneuvered her way from the King's war table to his bed-chamber, and would soon become Endrin Aeducan's consort and give birth to a son-- Bhelen. Yet it was not enough, it would never be enough for Nika, and a new plan was set into motion: dethroning Endrin and taking his place. Nika's short-term plan regarding the coup was to remove the King from the position of Commander-in-Chief and create a War Council working independently of the Assembly. Long term plans included abolishing the caste system, opening Orzammar’s gates to the surface, and reclaiming and rebuilding as much as possible of the lost thaigs. All of this would remain only an attempt, however. Bhelen was still a baby when she was exiled after the botched attempt at taking King Endrin's life and assuming control. Nika Kader’s name was all but struck from the record. The people of Orzammar still remember her, but her legacy– all the soldiers she’d personally trained, the successful incursions on darkspawn she’d led, the sections of the Deep Roads she’d secured– has been reduced to vague mentions of a treacherous wife and mother and a cautionary tale for the nobles to better scrutinize their consorts. She survived in the Deep Roads on her own long enough to reach a Legion of the Dead outpost and then fought by their side for a couple of years before joining a contingent of Orlesian Grey Wardens and leaving for the surface. Here, she was reborn, eventually rising in rank to Warden-Lieutenant, and seeking to return to Orzammar and finish what she started.

𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙒𝙄𝙏𝘾𝙃𝙀𝙍

Nika was born to Yarina and Dzhanniy of Clan Kader, a small and modest family line but comprised of valorous warriors, loyal to Mahakam to a fault. She trained as a warrior from an early age and joined the Mahakam Volunteer Army, not shying away from any battle, no matter how unlikely the odds of victory. She rose through the ranks quickly, making a name for herself after becoming a veteran of Mayena and Brenna. Once she returned to Mahakam, she advanced further, both socially and politically, by becoming Brouver Hoog’s consort. Having a son together, Bhelen, sealed Nika’s joining of Clan Hoog and her position of relative authority over the Mahakam army.

Still, it was not good enough for Nika, as the Elder-in-Chief was the absolute ruling power, and whenever she and Brouver had a disagreement, Nika would have to accept his decisions. Furthermore, she believed that Mahakam’s status as a vassal state of Temeria-- even if only in name-- was an insult to all its inhabitants, and they would not see true independence and prosperity unless they made a move against the Northern Kingdoms, especially Temeria. Though this view was not without supporters, the majority of the Clan Council, including the Elder, were firmly in opposition.

When the Second Northern war ended and things began to settle across the Continent, Nika, backed up by a division of loyalists from the Volunteer Army, attempted a coup against Brouver Hoog, seeking to claim the role of Elder-in-Chief for herself. Though exceedingly violent and difficult to put down, the coup failed in the end. Nika and her loyalists were given swift and decisive trials, some of them sentenced to death, others imprisoned or exiled, depending on their involvement. Nika herself was exiled from Mahakam, her name struck from the records and she would only be remembered as The Usurper Mother. Clan Kader faded into obscurity and eventually died out, branded renegades and traitors due to Nika’s actions. 

Nowadays, Nika roams the Continent together with a band of warriors who have either followed her into exile from Mahakam or joined her along the way, enthralled by her ideals of war and sovereignty. Most of them are dwarves, though they occasionally pick up other people too, for the most part temporarily. Nika herself is still aware of what is happening within the borders of Mahakam and every little political gossip and intrigue as she has several spies and contacts who provide her with information. She’s still planning to strike back against Brouver Hoog and all those who support him, working as a bounty hunter and mercenary, and biding her time.

𝙈𝘼𝙎𝙎 𝙀𝙁𝙁𝙀𝘾𝙏 𝙏𝙍𝙄𝙇𝙊𝙂𝙔

Kader Nika is a warlord who fought in the Krogan Rebellions and lived to tell the tale. Even among the krogan, she is known for her ruthlessness and iron will, and has many supporters as she’s always proven to put her people’s interests first and protect them fiercely. Dissatisfied with the leadership of Clan Kader, Nika invoked the Rite of Authority and swiftly rose victorious over the previous leader. As a warlord, she went on leading her people to battle against other Clans, conquering and assimilating them and thus promoting the growth of Clan Kader on Tuchanka and beyond. Eventually, she forged an allegiance with Clan Urdnot and gave birth to a healthy child, Urdnot Wreav, which only propels her importance in krogan society.

Nika’s ambition, however, was to rule as Overlord on Tuchanka and lead the krogan to war against the galaxy once more, starting with the Council. This pushed her and her warriors to commit acts of violence against their own people, procuring large amounts of weapons of mass destruction, hiring off-world mercenaries and criminal gangs, pillaging everything in their path to a unified  Tuchanka under Nika’s rule. The climax of this was when a botched attempt at turning against Clan Urdnot and its leaders ended with the death of several mothers and their children. Perhaps ironically, the Clans on Tuchanka did unite for once due to Nika’s actions, but not to support her-- instead, they unanimously decided that she and Clan Kader went too far and would be exiled from their homeworld, branded renegades, and forbidden from ever re-entering krogan society. 

Thus, Nika, accompanied by a dozen or so members of the now-dissolved Clan Kader, left Tuchanka and are roaming the fringes of the galaxy in search of supporters and ultimately revenge.

𝙈𝘼𝙎𝙎 𝙀𝙁𝙁𝙀𝘾𝙏: 𝘼𝙉𝘿𝙍𝙊𝙈𝙀𝘿𝘼

In this iteration, Nika and most of Clan Kader signed up for the Andromeda Initiative. Nika herself played a major role in the Nexus uprising. She wasn’t part of the krogan work crews who were asked to provide military support-- she was one of the rebels, openly opposing the Nexus leadership and encouraging others to follow her against them. After the rebellion was quelled and those involved exiled, Nika and her associates ended up on Elaaden. However, they refused to join New Tuchanka or defer to Nakmor Morda‘s leadership. Instead, they chose to settle somewhere else on Elaaden, spending their days recruiting new members and leading incursions against Nexus personnel and propriety.
