Would a Perks of Being a Wallflower Newsies AU be a good idea?

Because I can kind of imagine the "cast", but also I'm on the fence. Just hear me out, but definitely feel free to make changes:

Les as Chris(although obviously younger)

Denton as Mr. Anderson

Maybe Snyder as Aunt Helen? That's definitely debatable.

I don't want Katherine to be Ponytail Derek, so maybe she could be someone else??? Because I honestly didn't like Ponytail Derek.

hi!! can you please do a head cannon or imagine (either modern!au or 1899 or whatever you want) of what each of the newsies would be like at a party?? thank you!!

(this is my first hc request thank you ily)

-jack is one of those people who will deny being drunk. he’ll down 3 beers in an three beers in an hour and barely be able to stand up. he’ll be the one to jump in the pool and start water fights.

-davey is the designated driver, so he doesn’t drink. not that he minds though because he did get like, hammered once and hated it. he’s has to practically follow jack around to make sure he doesn’t do anything too stupid

-crutchie somehow almost always ends up crowd surfing?? no one knows how but it is a common occurrence. davey had to tell crutchie the next day

-race is a light weight, it doesn’t take much to get him drunk. he’ll also flirt with anything on two legs,, davey has been a victim of drunk race’s flirting multiple times. more sits on the sidelines and watches everyone else.

-albert doesn’t really like parties that much. he just goes for food tbh. anything to get some snaccs. (but will watch his drunken friends play silly games and get some good blackmail material)

-spot will not get drunk around other people. he doesn’t want to do something embarrassing and ruin his reputation as the ‘king of brooklyn’. more of a wallflower and is like davey but for his brooklyn™ boys

-elmer likes to party,, lets be real. he’s a light weight also and is a cuddley drunk. isn’t much for dancing but more for playing middle school games, like truth or dare. 10/10 would recommend going to a party with.

-finch like to party, but he’s an angry drunk. it takes quite a bit to get him under the influence, but once he is, that kid is not allowed to have his slingshot. he will shoot anyone that slightly pisses him off.

BLUSH BELOVED

Wallflower AU Blink is transmasc, and he and Mush started dating pre Blink coming out, before Blink realised.

When Blink came out to Mush, he was really worried Mush would want to break up with him but Mush was just kind of like. “Yo, I got a boyfriend now??” (this is a tiny bit of projection in a way)

Blink may have cried a little. /pos.

They started dating about a year from the current Wallflower AU, so when I fianlly get around to writing the fic, they’re an established relationship and Blink’s already out.

Mush’s love language is physical affection and acts of service. He loves to hold Blinks hand, play with his hair, hug him, and cuddle when they’re watching movies. And he likes to do little things for him, like cook, or look after him when he’s not feeling well/is down from things like dysphoria. He loves baking for Blink and Blink absolutely loves his baking.

Blink’s love language is quality time and gift giving. He likes to just spend time with Mush even if they’re doing their own things. When Mush comes over sometimes they’ll hang out in Blink’s room while Blink plays guitar. Or when Blink goes to Mush’s apartment, sometimes he’ll just sit at the breakfast bar with Elroy (Mush’s cat) and watch Mush cook or bake. Blink loves to get Mush silly little gifts if he ever sees something that reminds him of him.

Their first date, they went to the cinema together to see some stupid action movie and neither of them ended up paying full attention because they were too busy trying to steal each others snacks and sneakily hold hands.

Blink still has the tickets from that date in his phone case, and Mush has them in his wallet.

Mush absolutely loves Blinks laugh and smile because he rarely gets to hear and see them. Blink is pretty quiet and has a bit of a RBF but sometimes Mush will tell a dumb joke and Blink starts laughing, and Mush fully has to stop and stare at him because “holyshit hes so pretty??”

Blink loves Mush’s smile too, but he also loves Mush’s eyes. He thinks they’re really pretty and sometimes he just stares at his phone wallpaper of them both because Mush’s eyes look nice.

They have matching sun and moon jewelry. Mush is the sun, Blink is the moon.

They do the three squeezes of ‘I love you’ when holding hands. If people don’t know what that is,it’s when you squeeze someone’s hand three times to tell them you love them in situations where talking isn’t possible. (This is a common thing throughout the group)

Blinks lockscreen is a photo of Mush. In the photo, he’s walking away and half turned to the camera laughing. His Wallpaper is a selfie them from one of their dates.

Mush’s lockscreen is Blink playing guitar and his wallpaper is a selfie of him with Blink asleep next to him.

They are so ☹️☹️

The servers conversations tend to jump around a lot, so nothing THAT interesting happened sadly ?

Bumlets was distraught by Specs’ comment and tried to defend himself then started sending Swifty and Skittery screenshots as if they weren’t online at the time.

Skittery thought it was insanely entertaining and Swifty was half focused on the conversation becasue he was working so he was VERY confused.

Specs found himself hilarious for this whole ordeal and started being jokingly flirty to which Bumlets became even MORE distraught (all /lh, he wasn’t actually mad, he was being dramatic for the funnies)

Bumlets jokingly blocked Specs for exactly one minute and any time he’d (Specs) say something, Bumlets would respond ‘1 blocked message’ which developed into a bit where if someone said something someone else didn’t like, they’d get a “1 blocked message” in response.

Quickly after that, the conversation was diverted by Smalls because they were concerned over Skittery listening to The Ballad of Jane Doe on loop.

Dancing In The Rain - Bumswiftery

“It’s raining.” Skittery says softly, gazing at the droplets trickling down his window.

The house is quiet, other than Blink playing music in the next room over. Specs took Tumble-Boy out to the toy shop and Dutchie and Spike went out on a date. Elmer’s with Albert. The house is mostly empty.

Bumlets hums in acknowledgment and looks up from his phone, following Skit’s gaze to the rain. In his lap, Swifty snuggles closer, arms looping around his waist.

Skittery turns to his lovers. “Can we go outside?”

Swifty mumbles something incoherent and Bumlets looks momentarily confused, barely getting out the ‘What?’ before Swifty lifts his head. His hair’s a mess and he looks sleepy.

“We’ll get drenched,” He stifles a yawn and sits up. Bumlets giggles and reaches up to fix his hair.

Skittery frowns a little. “Please?”

“Why d’you wanna go outside?” Bumlets asks, brow furrowed as he focuses on Swifty’s hair. Swifty bats his hands away playfully, rolling off Skit’s bed and going over to the mirror to fix it himself.

Shifting slightly where he’s sitting, Skittery looks away, unsure whether or not to blatantly say why he wants to go outside. It’s cringe. They might laugh at him.

“I like the rain.” He bites out.

The other two boys exchange glances and Skittery sighs, maybe a little dramatically before staring at his hands. “I wanna dance in the rain with you guys.” He mumbles.

Bumlets’ face lights up and he’s on his feet instantly, taking Skittery’s hands in his and pulling him to his feet.

“OhmyGod- You’re so cute, I- That’s adorable. C’mon- Pitters, you coming?”

Swifty turns to them, smiling. “Sure.”

Bumlets all but drags them downstairs and out the back door into the back garden. The rain isn’t too heavy and the scent of it hangs in the air as Bumlets tilts his head back to catch raindrops on his tongue before doing a little twirl and grinning at his boyfriends.

Skittery swears he feels butterflies. Even after almost a year together he still gets butterflies. He still acts like he has a crush.

It’s embarrassing.

Swifty’s hand is in his suddenly, pulling him closer, his other hand resting on Skittery’s waist and Skittery feels his face flush.

“What-“

“You wanted to dance.” Swifty smiles softly before twirling them both across the grass then dipping Skittery and leaning in to give him a quick, chaste kiss. He pulls back and Skittery is bright red.

Arms loop around his waist and Swifty picks Skittery up, spinning in a circle, grinning like an idiot when Skittery starts laughing.

Bumlets comes bouncing over to them, grinning like an idiot as Swifty puts Skittery down and steps back.

“No fair, I want a kiss too.” He huffs dramatically “You two clearly hate me.”

Scoffing, Swifty leans down to kiss him softly and when he pulls back Bumlets is giggling, rain dripping off his hair.

Bumlets goes on his tip-toes and slips his arms around Skittery’s shoulders, giving him a quick kiss before bursting into helpless giggles and burying his face in Skittery’s chest.

Humming a little, Skittery rocks them back and forth as he plants a kiss on the top of Bumlets’ head.

They stay like that for a while, swaying in the rain together, Swifty nearby, holding Skit’s free hand, head tilted back against the rain.

At some point- they lose track of time -Bumlets starts to complain about being cold and they head back inside.

Skittery and Swifty lay on Skits’ bed as Bumlets showers. Swifty’s playing with Skittery’s hair and it’s starting to send him to sleep.

“Tired, Skits?”

“….no.”

“Yeah, you are.” Swifty says fondly.

Groaning, Skitery curls against Swifty more, burying his face in his shoulder. “I’m not that tired-“

Bumlets appears and crawls onto the bed. He smells like coconuts as he snuggles up next to them and yawns obnoxiously, mumbling something about being sleepy.

He falls asleep instantly and Skittery huffs, knowing he’s not far behind. Swifty’s warm and he and Bumlets both smell nice.

Skittery nuzzles more into Swifty, closing his eyes as he finally lets himself drop off into a peaceful sleep.

Wallflower AU Things :))

Set a few months prior to Graves’ accident.

“Kid, I’m gonna need to to tell me your name.” The police officer taps his pen against his clipboard, eyeing Hot-Shot.

Hot-Shot shifts in the uncomfortable plastic seat, sneakers squeaking against the lenoleum floors. He crosses his arms and huffs slightly, blowing his hair out of his eyes.

The cop purses his lips. “How old are you?”

Hot-Shot stares him down, adamant in not answering.

“Can you tell me the names of those boys you were with?”

Hot-Shot turns his gaze to the clock, pointedly avoiding eye contact.

Tick

Tick..

Tick…

There’s an irritated sigh. “Son, I can do this all day…”

Perfect. So can he.

“…Or you could make this easier for both of us and tell me who you robbed that store with.” He prompts, sounding more impatient by the minute.

An uncomfortable silence falls over them before the officer sighs heavily and pushes his glasses to the top of his head. Hot-Shot can see the indents on the his nose.

“Look, kid. You’re in here every other week and it’s always because the same boys screwed you over and left you behind. I know you have some code or- whatever you want to call it, but is that really worth your future? Why don’t you just tell me your name.”

“Shouldn’t it be in your files or some shit? Considering I’m here so much.”

“So you can talk.”

“Yeah. But why would I talk to a fuckin’ pig like you.”

There’s no way he’s ratting out his friends. His old man and mama taught him better than that.

Deny. Deny. Deny.

“Did you rob that store last night.” The cop ignores the insult.

“I don’t know. Did you see me rob it.”

The officer looks exhasperated and sits back, pinching this bridge of his nose and muttering what sounds like a prayer before standing up abruptly.

Hot-Shot flinches at the sudden movement.

“I’m not doing this. I can’t-“ He walks off, probably to find a co-worker or some shit.

Hot-Shot watches the cop talk to a coworker. They keep glancing over at him and whispering to each other. He turns his gaze to the officer’s desk, studying his belongings.

The station doors slide open and he looks around only to see a very irritated looking Graves walk in.

Oh, shit.

Graves marches past him, raising a hand in a ‘don’t’ motion before Hot-Shot can get a word out, as he approaches the officers and decends into a heated conversation.

He’ll never understand how Graves does it. He was sure he was fucked this time, but then Graves swoops in and saves his ass.

Again.

“…Graves-“ He starts to say after they’ve been sat in the car in silence for maybe ten minutes.

Graves lifts his head from where he’d been resting it against the steering wheel.

“You told me you were done with this shit, mate- I thought after you left home you’d leave them too.”

“It was just one job.” Hot-Shot mutters.

“You say that every time. ‘Just one job.’ ‘One more job.’ ‘This is the last one, Graves.’ It never is- The whole point of you leaving was to escape that shit. But you keep going back to those fucking low-life-“

“They’re my friends-“ Hot-Shot interrupts, turning to meet Graves’ gaze.

“I’m your friend. They’re gang members. There’s difference, Forest.”

“Is there??”

“Friends don’t leave friends behind.”

Hot-Shot shuts his mouth and turns his gaze away, slumping down in his seat. He refuses to admit Graves is right.

“Don’t start sulking because I’m right.”

“Fuck you, man.” He bites out.

“Why, for caring?” Graves sounds tired. Maybe Hot-Shot’s been pushing too much...

“Look.” Graves says eventually. “I- I know you think they’re your friends, Shot, but one of these days- Sooner or later, they’re going to leave you bleeding somewhere. And I know you know that, deep down.”

Hot-Shot doesn’t answer. Maybe he does know that. Those guys have never done anything for him or to help him. Despite how much he’s done for them. How much he’s risked. How he bends over backwards for them-

Graves reaches out and ruffles his hair but Hot-Shot ducks away. He’s not in the mood.

Graves retracts his hand. “Let’s just go home,” He mutters, starting the car.

So tell me about Wallflower Delancys 👀

CW for talk of abuse, neglect, food issues, homophobia/transphobia, sexism and general toxicity. Minor character death.

Note: My goal with the Delancey’s in this AU is to humanise them and allow them to have a redemption arc of sorts while not erasing or excusing their actions. They grow and mature but are still held accountable for how they acted.

Oscar and Morris may be assholes a lot of the time, but at the end of the day they’re also just two scard kids trying to get by. Two kids who care deeply for each other in a way that’s oddly similar to how the Hattan and Brooklyn Bunches care for each other. They’re brothers and although neither of them know how to express it, they do love each other dearly.

After their mother passed away when they were too young to really remember her, their father started to get angry. And he dumped them in foster care to run off with the military. They experienced a lot of abuse in the foster system at the hands of Snyder. They were taken out of Snyder’s care around the time Jack was brough IN, though they were with him for a couple months. They always sort of felt bitter towards Jack because he’d always kick up such a fuss. He’d often get dragged screaming out of rooms. Laying low was how they survived so they resented Jack for doing the opposite though they also felt sorry for him.

Their dad was discharged a couple years later, came back and took them in again. He ended up being horrendously abusive. He was brutal, a control freak and wouldn’t let them do a lot of things. He’s forced gender roles and toxic masculinity and sexism.

He’d force things like “Boy’s don’t cry.” “Women are baby machines.” “You can’t play with that, it’s a girls toy.” “Don’t hug your guy friends people will think you’re gay” and a lot of other shitty things.

They were forced to call him ‘Sir’. They weren’t allowed to call him dad or pa. If they ‘messed up’ they’d endure intense punishments, like not letting them eat (which resulted in Oscar having a lot of issues with food) shutting them in closets, beating them.

He’s blow up on them at the LITTLEST mistakes. So they’d hide at out at their Uncle Weisel's. But for too long he'll come looking for them.

In school they met a boy named Markus, who went by ‘Dirtmouth’. (An OC). They befriended him quickly, but he only fuled their anger and encouraged their lashing out. Which was the beginning of their toxic friendship and them bullying the Newsies.

I personally HC Morris as the older brother. He’s nineteen while Oscar is eighteen. And they’re stuck to each other like glue. Morris is fearcely protective of Oscar. From a young age he’d always put Oscar first and often forget or straight out refuse to take care of himself, much to Oscar’s distress.

Morris really struggles with school due to multiple learning disabilities and he was held back a year which ended him up in Oscar’s grade. (He was secretly a little relieved because this meant he could keep an eye on his brother easier). He has dyslexia, dyscalculia and dysgraphia, so numbers, writing and reading are pretty difficult and he often has to ask Oscar or their Uncle Weisel to help him with it. He’s also Autistic and has ADHD.

Oscar on the other hand is far brighter than he gets credit for. He’s geat at maths and excells in English, so he usually helps Morris out where he can. He’s also Autistic and ADHD and has an anxiety disorder. He’ll sometimes experience verbal shutdowns when upset or overwhelmed and because neither he or Morris know sign, they find it hard to communicate and it can often lead to frustration on both their parts.

Oscar’s the kind of person to get frustrated extremely easily then upset that he is frustrated.

Morris is more the kind to ‘punch the frustration out’.

After they ran away from home, (far later) they ended up getting an apartment together and get a little wobbly cat who they name Bean! Oscar saw a car dump him and took him home.

Oscar hates being touched without warning, but even with warning he’s iffy unless it’s someone he’s comfortable with. He’s easily spooked by loud noises and/or sudden movements, he’s extremely jumpy but usually tries to play it off.

Because of their upbringing and their dads views on the LGBTQ+, Oscar stayed in the closet for years which only added to his frustration and caused him to lash out more. He was terrified that if Morris found out, he’d hate him, but Morris was actually supportive.

Because Oscar is his brother and they only have each other. So they need to stick by each other no matter what.

After Dirtmouth ended up going to far with the bullying, Oscar and Morris sort of realised how messed up everything was. And Oscar was the first to back off. He’d had time to think and mature and he felt awful for everything that happened, so when he got the chance, he tried to apologise. Morris, a couple months later followed.

But I won’t spoil how THAT went.

I’ll say again. All of this is an explanation for how they acted. Not an excuse. I only want to humanise them.

Some little facts in an attempt to humanis them and make them NOT one dimensional bullies?

Morris is a dog person. But doesn’t mind cats.

He is not the best cook but he makes a mean lasagna.

He NEVER has his own clothes, they’re always stolen by Otto and Oscar.

He likes action and superhero movies and likes comics because they’re easier for him to read.

His hands are always covered in bandaids and he sometimes puts silly little kids ones on.

He’s scared shitless of moths.

His handwriting is so messy that it’s near impossible to read. Oscar struggles so much with any notes Morris leaves for him.

Oscar however, has really neat handwriting. It’s really pretty ??

He absolutely loves cats. He’s deadass such an animal lover. But he must pet every cat he meets.

He likes gaming with Morris.

He’s a good cook.

He’s secretly a theatre kid. He loves Oliver !

He’s rarely ever wearing his own clothes. He always steals from Morris.

Wallflower AU Elmer is a Marvel and DC fanatic. His favourites are Spiderman, Batman, Wolverine, Nightwing and Riddler. In my brain I can only associate him with Spiderman. He probably has a suit. Everyone buys him Superhero themed things for his Birthday.

It is his special interest.

A black cat called Friend. They thought she was a boy when they took her in, but then discovered she wasn’t so now they have a genderfluid cat. Friend is unhinged /pos. - created by @specsbeloved

Then there’s Zirka. My OC Spike’s cat. She’s a ginger Norwegian forest cat. She’s calm and loves cuddles and silently watches Friend being a meance. She tends to laze around in the sun and sleep a lot- like her owner.

Then there’s Nick Furry (No, that’s not a typo, it’s a play on words). A calico with one eye. He sits around and judges the other two for everything they do. He’s a little moody but he likes Elmer and Blink and will lie with them sometimes.

Wallflower AU Brooklyn Bunch!!

The sillies :))

To explain these silly guys I’m gonna compare them to the Hattan Bunch.

The Manhattan Bunch are a found family who started off as friends. They grew up around each other, on the same streets, playing together. And they grew from friends into a family.

The Brooklyn Bunch began as a gang who’s only need was trying to survive the area they lived in because of how rough it was. But, over time, their bond got stronger and they became a found family too.

Whether it’s through blood or not, they’re both little families.

The Manhttan Bunch’s bond is more seeking comfort in each other, trying to help each other. It’s driven more by their ‘love’ for each other. They always check in with each other. They notice the little things, like habits they have.

Whereas the Brooklyn Bunch’s bond seems to be driven a lot more by instincts and a need to protect each other and survive because so many of them grew up on the streets. They needed to survive, and for them, coming together as a ‘Gang’ was the only way to do that.

The Manhattan Bunch have little groups within the group. (The Bros, Kloppmans Boys, The Wingmen and such)

But Brooklyn Bunch they’re all ONE group. No sub-groups.

In the Manhattan Bunch the smaller, inner groups seem to understand each other better. Like The Wingmen know each other better than the rest of the group do.

But with the Brooklyn Bunch they all understand each other on a much deeper almost intimate level. To outside viewers, the Brooklyn Bunch seem to ‘disregard’ things such as Price flinching at any loud noises, Hot-Shot’s flashbacks. None of them will ‘comment’ on it? If they’re hanging out and Price flinches at a noise, none of the Brooklyn Bunch will comment. Whereas the Manhattan Bunch would more inclined to ask if Price is okay and start checking up on him.

This is not down to the Brooklyn Bunch not caring, It’s down to the amount of trust they have in each other. They have such a close DEEP bond and strong trust of each other that they know if it was SEVERE they’d ask for help.

This also isn’t saying that the Manhattan Bunch don’t trust each other, it’s just that they WAY they trust is different if that makes sense.

Both groups function every different but are family nonetheless.

The Brooklyn Bunch began with Graves and Spot. Two kids who adopted each other as brothers. They stuck together for protection and eventually, over time, the other members of the groups slowly started to join them. Graves’ friends, the younger boys, Hot-Shot and the girls.

Some people within the group go way back. Such as Stray and Hot-Shot (They mean sm to me), Graves and Spot, Stray and Lucky, Graves and Lucky.

There’s a group of them who all live in the same apartment building together.

Hot-Shot and Myron live together with Ten-Pin.

Rodger and Price live together with Barney, Oatmeal and Coffee Bean. Rodger and Price are in fact older in this AU (in their twenties) and the other three are 16-17, their unofficial kids.

Lucky and Stray have an apartment together.

Graves and Spot.

Hawk.

Splint.

Almost all of them have motorbikes and they’re as a ‘Biker Gang.’ They go on rides together around the city. They’ll go to clubs and bars and sit outside with their bikes and stare down any creeps or people trying to start fights.

The only ones in the group with CLEAN criminal records, or who have never been caught doing anything illegal are Price and Spot. This is simply because I think it’s really funny that the leader of the group has a clean record.

Wallflower AU Fact of the Day

Bumlets once fell UP the stairs at Specs’ house when rushing to the bathroom because the downstairs one was occupied. Dutchie fell DOWN the same flight of stairs at the same time. They passed each other as they fell. Bumlets then proceeded to get stuck in the bathroom for ten minutes.

I warned y’all this AU is a highschool AU with angst and some heavy shit.

Shot is going THROUGH it.

So most of the Wallflower AU characters are around 18, cause senior year. But my friend and I sort of decided that some are a little younger, so 16-17. (Some even younger like Boots and Les)

Spot is one of the younger ones; he and Racer are both 17. This is because I find if really funny that a scrawny little 17 year old is the leader of one of the scariest gangs of teenagers in Brooklyn.

THAT and his right hand is Hot-Shot, this 6’4, dangerously calm tree of a man.

The Brooklyn Bunch are essentially a gang of bikers who came together to protect each other because they live in such a rough area and most if not all grew up on the streets or in extremely unhealthy situations.

Hot-Shot is essentially the dad of the Brooklyn Bunch. Despite his scary looking exterior, Hot-Shot is possibly one of the sweetest people you’ll meet when you get to know him. He’s compassionate, caring and fiercely loyal. He’s ride or die for almost all the Brooklyn bunch and the Hattan bunch when they eventually meet.

He grew up with his parents who were criminals and constantly dragging him into their bullshit. From a young age he had to cover for them and hide their crimes and because of this he became a scarily good actor.

He’d often get picked up by the police but his parents would always bail him out. Until one day, when he was sixteen, they didn’t. So he ran.

He went back to his parents’ apartment and found Ten-Pin there (the child of people who worked for his parents. Who was only a baby). He figured a kid didn’t deserve to live in that situation, so he took Ten-Pin and ran.

He went to Graves (I could also talk about Graves for hours ☹️) and stayed with him for a while till he got back on his feet and got his own place with Myron and their (new) kid Ten-Pin. Myron and Hot-Shot didn’t end up dating untill WAY later, as Hot-Shot for about two years was stuck in a very unhealthy relationship.

Because of everything he went through, he decided he wanted to protect the Brooklyn Bunch, so he made himself a safe person for them. Their parental figure. Someone they could turn to if needed. Because it was something he never had.

Some Random Facts About Hot-Shot in this AU?

He has a pet chinchilla named Rio.

He’s deaf in one ear.

He has OCD.

He’s an insomniac.

His favourite TV show is Chuck.

He works at an Ice-Cream Parlor named ‘Angel’s’, and has to wear one of those silly little uniforms and the others come into his workplace to mock him. (He also works at a currently unnamed boba place and a bar called Jenny’s)

He loves music and plays guitar and ukulele.

He’s a really good cook.

He tends to carpool for the Brooklyn Bunch despite a lot of them being able to drive themselves.
