Story - summarized

There is a spy in Rosset. Zoey built this city to be secure, so having a traitor in her midst is infuriating. She creates a fake secret file to see who tries to run off with it. It doesn’t take her long to find the traitor - but she is shocked to learn the traitor is working for Qin Yi.

Zoey decides to visit Cloudcrest. The Neverfall Troupe is expecting her, and they lead her to their theater. The play starts - she is furious that Qin Yi wrote an entire play based after her loss to Mercury. How did he find out?

During intermission, she goes to find Qin Yi. He tells her that he admires her and just wants a friendship with her. She hates his manipulative attitude and leaves.

While inspecting the city, Zoey learns a bit more about Qin Yi’s past. Now that she is armed with one of his secrets, she feels ready to face him again. That night, she returns to the theater. Half her soldiers she leaves outside in case anyone tries to escape the theater, and half her soldiers follow her inside in case of an ambush.

The only one inside is Qin Yi, sitting on a stage, playing chess. He insists that all he wants is an alliance with her. He wants to give her information on Mercury’s hideout, and in return he wants resources from the Justiciars. Zoey agrees.

The Justiciars return to Rosset, and Zoey starts scheming to infiltrate Mercury’s auction gala at Lodden. Despite this shaky alliance with Neverfall Troupe, she hates two things: being manipulated and others finding out her secrets. She will not hesitate to get rid of Qin Yi if needed.

Connections

-In her Reflection for Gold Gilt Dream, Zoey reveals that there were two reasons for her infiltrating Mercury’s gala. Whether or not they got Leonid’s manuscript, she still wanted to get the plans for Mercury’s secret base on New Wing Island.

-This takes place before Zoey meets Nikki in game.

-Zoey tells Qin Yi that she knows about his mother. So far, Qin Yi’s Reflections have shown him trying to get away from her and her neglectful ways... but Zoey confirms in this moment that he still cares about her.

Fun Facts

-Zoey usually charges ahead in her missions, but here she has to learn a different tactic to dealing with Qin Yi’s mind games.

The sign that he smokes under says no smoking indoors but somehow everyone knows that anyone who has a problem with it either turns a blind eye or finds themselves with one. He's waiting for an associate to update him on their business that evening, and so occupies himself with reading some of the information about The Woolworth building in the foyer. "Hm," he mumbles when he reads something interesting, and it catches the attention of the person a little ways down from him, who casts him a curious look. He points with the cigarette between his fingers to the sign to explain. "They closed down one of the subway entrances in the basement due to concerns over crime."

Work in progress cover art for my most recent animatic; “Last Lullaby” (Song from Centaurworld) feat. My oc’s -The Ringmaster- and Callisto. More will be revealed as time goes on, but I’ll give you the main gist of it.

Ringmaster is a twisted, manipulative antagonist of my story “The Last Ring” (Not set on the name.)

The Ringmaster is actually a woman known as Neverfall, but after turning herself into the Ringmaster, people never got to know her and only saw her by reputation—which led to them thinking she was a man. She is also referred to as ‘it.’

This animatic is where Ringmaster is confronted by an old friend, whom which abandoned Neverfall when times got tough. However, by the time Callisto left Never, she had lost her mind due to pressure from her father (Who told her she looked like a mistake), and tried to claw her own eyes out so she wouldn’t have to look at her reflection. This went south, and her eyes did not go blind as planned. Instead, they were bloodshot and hideous. Eventually she became a homicidal maniac (like most villains lmao) and made a name for herself; Ringmaster.

I was mad about yueniang when he was first introduced but I like him now. it helps that he turns out to be a member of the neverfall troupe who are shady but not outright villains

he has a funny dynamic with qin yi as well. he makes for an interesting contrast bc both of them are dan (female role) performers but qin yi is fairly masculine offstage and has legions of fangirls while yueniang is always feminine

I'm still :/ about the way some of the characters reacted to him but when we see his own thoughts on his gender it's not bad. congrats shining nikki you turned this one around

She’d fallen behind— the rush and hurry to evacuate had left Alice alone in the witches’ house, departing with a bag she’d barely finished unpacking and panic rose in her throat. The evening before had been robbed of sleep for the water witch, her entire body felt as though it had been dipped into boiling water, from the tips of her fingertips to the skin of her scalp she felt the pain of being branded by a hot iron: but when the sun rose over Grand Manan, magic sang within her once again. The joy had been short lived, news of the horrors in town had the whole house rushing: she told her friends to go ahead, that she was right behind but when their backs finally dipped out of sight and below the hill up to their little house, her sense of urgency was replaced with fear. Alice scrambled to the car she was renting, and while the tank was mostly fumes and the windshield was plastered with bugs that baked onto the glass in the hot sun, she urged it to a start, easing down the road. The journey didn’t take her far until she saw the horrors of what had happened during the night. A storm brewed overhead, vicious and unrelenting and death drew down the sides of the street. Alice wept, as she always did, until sight of something familiar had her pulling her car over. Above a house, smoke plumed in the dark sky and blotted out the smallest breath of light: the windows glowed like a furnace and a car in the drive made her heart sink. The vehicle had barely been turned off and the blonde barrelled out of it, her voice lifting and breaking over the syllables. “Evangeline!” A quick assessment made it clear that she wasn’t in the car, her sister was very much inside the building, that cracked and spewed smoke and heat. Panic that had previously twined itself around her ankles like a house cat now gripped grievously at her heart: this had happened before.

She was flooded memory of her older sister slipping into the cool safety of the woods as she, fourteen years Evangeline’s junior, slammed her fists against the glass and shouted her name. Her sister had turned away and had never looked back, she had let what remained of her life turn to ash and had been content to do so. Her heart felt raw within her chest, it would not happen again. Alice called upon her magic, whispering to the moisture in the air for protection, for whatever it could offer– before she shoved the door open and shouted her sister’s name once again.

If Nikki ends up saving Qin Yi through the power of love and never giving up, I’ll go mad <3 heh.

Not even a “love fixes all” situation, but through the plot and Nikki’s perseverance, through their accidental encounters dictated by plot, as a side result. Nikki’s love for this world and Qin Yi’s life getting tangled with hers, finding himself through her. Heh.

Running into Devrim again had sent Sanem’s brain into the pits of hell, and it wasn’t exactly helpful. Not that her skills were helpful in the middle of a storm -- though Sanem expected everything to go to hell any moment now anyway. Wasn’t that how it always worked on this island? Something happened, and then all hell broke loose. She should be looking for the war that was brewing, but instead she was playing with her phone and staring at the people passing her by. “Fucking hell,” she mumbled, before she pushed herself off the wall and started looking for someone who might know the set up of this place. “Hey, do you know if they have something to drink somewhere around here? I’m going to dry out at this speed.”

His slow gait drew him to the staircase, the woman he sought out perched at the top, looking beyond the bannister into the crowd below. Silence lingered between them as he lent forward once he reached the space beside her, his arms propping against the intricate wooden design, “I believe I have a proposition for you,” He spoke, as if they were discussing the weather. “One you’re not likely to refuse.”

Annoyance, like the flicked tail of a cat grown furious for being told off, filtered back from the parlour and Saint smiled. She knew he was there as well. He stepped inside the room, ducking beneath the doorframe that had always been too short for the Grimm boys, greeting Daphne with the silencing of his magic. “Now don’t get any ideas,” the fire witch warned, knowing all too well that she had a tendency to douse him in water— “This shirt is silk.” A teapot sat in the table and it benefitted from the touch of his fingertips to the side of the ceramic, the contents grown cold began to steam again before he poured two cups. “I was looking for Zephyr,” he voiced, as there was little reason for him to step into the Grimm home these days. “What brings you over?”
