Haziel knew he was guilty of course. He had done- unforgivable things. Unspeakable things. And he knew that no matter what was done to him he would not be any bit closer to forgiveness.

But why was he the only one paying for it?

Everyone wanted their vengeance. Aziphem for- obvious reasons. His master for those same reasons, even if Kotarou was not the one who had suffered because of it. The council, stripping him of his apprenticeship, his weapons, and now his clothes as their act of punishment. Everyone felt entitled to their retribution.

And yeah. He deserved it. Every moment of agony and more. But he had been just one of the many aggressors. Kotarou had lead the project and Aziphem's final escape. Alejo had worked from the shadows to make everything possible. The various researchers had passed around Aziphem like a lab animal. A million hands had touched this atrocity. But when blood had to be paid, only his wrists were slit. It was easier to blame the hot headed apprentice. He could be a willing accomplice or a disobedient violent aggressor depending on what he was charged with. And every dirty hand could consider itself cleansed from his torment. This was retribution, reparation, and repentance all in one, even if it did nothing to fix any damage done.

But they needed a scapegoat; everyone demanded their pound of flesh. And as the icy desert night descended, even the coyotes would get it.

Breathing heavily, Kotarou rested his blood soaked blade. Holy steel made quick work of demon flesh and Aziphem's once snarky mouth fell silent, choking on his own blood. Of course Kotarou had been careful, he couldn't risk loosing his most promising subject. But even his tempered rage made his point clearly.

"It would do you well to remember how holy weapons sting." The angel wiped the blade with the end of his lab coat. "Perhaps it would encourage better behavior."

CW: non-explicit Religious trauma/transphobia

Haziel, ironically, hadn't been to church since he became an angel. Other more important things he figured. It was weird to be in this church, his church, again. The Church he was baptized in. The church he had been scorned from for refusing to live as a woman. The church he knew his funeral had been held in (he had corrected the headstone out back). And now, the church he planned to make good use of.

His master followed the way of science, using chemicals and surgeries to try to cure Aziphem. But Haziel had long since known the proper to deal with demons. Just never had the chance to use it.

The quiet whimpers Aziphem made brought him back into focus and Haziel ground his cigarette on the alter before hopping down. Preacher David would throw a fit about this tomorrow. Preacher David was also screwing three married members of the congregation when Haziel had attended the church so in all honestly, he didn't give a fuck.

"Well. I think it's time we do this the old fashioned way." The angel fished the small leather bound book from his jacket pocket, tracing the cracked cover before opening it up to the creased page had practiced since he first laid eyes on Aziphem. "I wonder how you'll manage an exorcism. I hope it fucking hurts."

"What did this to you?"

It was the closest thing to kindness Haziel had heard from his master, even if Kotarou was hardly being gentle as he ripped the rough wooden stakes from Haziel's wings. The young angel had been in and out of death, barely able to stay alive for more than a few moments between the lingering chest trauma and blood loss.

"She- she did- she-" Haziel stammered, gasping for air through his punctured lungs. The world had begun to slip again, blood loss claiming him into a familiar numbness.

"Who. Haziel stay with me." A rough slap to the face did little to keep him conscious as Kotarou spoke. The world was going black, fading away from him.

He only barely caught the last words, a rough female voice thick with grit and hate. Her voice.

"I did. You took my servant from me. And I wanted to return the favor."

How had Haziel found Warren? After the angel had been allowed to have his fun with the two of them Aziphem had made sure to avoid the human, going south this escape attempt to keep him uninvolved. He had wanted so bad to go find Warren, to tell him he missed him and run away with the human again. But he knew he couldn't, he had to stay away, to avoid... this.

Not that it mattered aparently.

Aziphem swished his tail side to side, considering the best course of action to deal with Haziel. Of course, if this was a fair fight he would take him head on, he'd fought the angel before and won.

But with Warren now clutched between Haziel's finger tips, butterfly knife resting on his fragile human throat, had nothing. No option that included both of them getting out of here unscathed.

"What do you want?" Aziphem growled, the dread growing in his chest as Haziel's smirk deepened.

"You. Kissing my boot. Begging me to take you back to my master. And when I do, when he's proud of me for what I've done, you'll bow your head and do what I make you do because if you step out of line again, I will find your human and finish what I started."

"Fuck- yougggghhhh" Warren's curse turned into a groan, Haziel grinding his boot into the Human's ankle, twisting it at an odd direction.

"Your master will fucking kill you for this." Aziphem snarled, knowing any weakness shown for Warren's pain would only make it worse,

"Not if you don't tell him, which you won't. Because I would hate for my master to find out. I really don't think.. Warren is it? Yeah I don't think Warren would survive you doing that." Haziel made his threat clear, embossed with a line of blood dribbling down Warren's chest from his neck. "Now, at my boot demon."
