On a recent excursion to Doi Inthanon, Thailand's highest mountain at 2,500 metres ,, a proliferation of orchids in full bloom. The white one with red & yellow labellum was a Dendrobe, the pale green & rust I'd hazard Coelogyne, the pendulous one with the turgid rostellum ,,, I have no idea. The temperature in Chiang Mai was 27° C, atop the mountain at 11:00 am was perhaps 7° C, blazing sun ,, no wind.

Tipularia discolor - Cranefly orchid

Yesss, native orchid blooming time! I love these, and they're not easy to spot. They're spikes of small flowers, brown against the leaf litter, and they don't even have leaves in summer. But they're so special.

Hey, I just put a couple more sticker designs on Etsy! One is a portrait of Pacific bleeding heart (Dicentra formosa), one of my favorite native wildflowers here in the PNW.
