Grinnell Glacier, Many Glacier, Glacier National Park

I felt unstoppable today hiking the iconic Grinnell Glacier hike, my watch recorded 40k steps and Gaia recorded 13.6 miles, it was supposed to be 10.6 miles but I chose to hike down to Lake Grinnell at the bottom after hiking up to Upper Grinnell , because the lake looked so beautiful. I didn’t get any blisters but my toes were sore and as soon as we got to the lake I dipped my toes in the water. I felt amazing for hours after. A few hours later I felt the stiffness set in, I had to get ice out of the cooler for my knees because I couldn’t really move.

Lake MacDonald, West Glacier, Glacier National Park 

We rested our legs and rented kayaks on Lake MacDonald in West Glacier after an early morning drive along Going to the Sun Road. It felt amazing to still explore while resting my sore muscles. I got to exercise my muscles that don’t get used on a hike. We walked the tourist trap shops, lined with Huckleberry jams, syrups, flavored coffees, all claiming to be “fought from the claws of grizzly bears.” They even sold scented tshirts, which did not seem very bear safe in an environment where we needed scent-proof bear bags for our food, lipbalm, sunscreen, a bear lock on our bear proof cooler, and bear spray on us at all times. I bought a Glacier National Park patch, like I do at every national park I’ve done a “deserving” hike at, because it makes me feel like a Girl Scout. I plan to sew them on a denim jacket. I picked the prettiest patch, with mountain goats, lakes, meadows, wildflowers – even though it had mountain goats – one of the few animals I hadn’t seen here yet. The lady at the register told me I can’t wear the patch until I see a mountain goat. I had one day left and knew I had to find one. 

It was brutally hot and sunny, so we went back to Lake MacDonald. There were children paddleboarding, insisting they’d “found a barrel” and they “think it’s full of oil.” The beach wasn’t sandy, it was formed with smooth small rocks. The water was crystal clear and warmed by the afternoon sun. The view of the mountains we kayaked towards hours earlier was directly in front of us as we swam and enjoyed the water, sharing giggles, a child laid face down on the hot rocky beach to “work on his tan.”

Pitamaken Pass, Two Medicine, Glacier National Park

Pitamaken Pass was the most intensely grueling, gorgeous, and insane hike I’ve ever been on. There was so much exposure on the edge of the mountains, with a narrow trail and talus (loose rock), that tumbles under your feet down the side of the mountain. But it was a TRAIL, so it was still one of the least dangerous mountain hikes I’ve been on, because it’s maintained. There were gorgeous wildflower meadows and these funny white “bear paws” everywhere, they look like giant q-tips and only bloom every 5 years.

The trail changed so much over the 18 miles we hiked, from dense forest, muggy, humid and lush with brush; to trickling rivers with meadows, juniper, bushes, butterflies and red rocks; to walking along the rich blue of Old Man Lake. Then the slog of climbing up 1,000ft over a mile and 3,200 ft of elevation gain total (with a lot of up and down, which makes it feel like you’re never making progress). My brain was throbbing in my skull, rapid pulse, and swaying balance. I thought it must be dehydration or electrolytes, I told Adam I thought I was going to be sick, it was over an hour before I realized we had maxed out our altitude for this trip so far ~8,000ft, after only sleeping at ~5,000ft. So I carried on, tossed some Propel electrolyte mix in my Nalgene and took my shirt off to cool down, all in measures not to pass out, but also kept moving because the sun was beating down. There was no breeze or shade, but I hoped there would be both on the other side of the Pass. It didn’t come as quickly as I needed it, but as a breeze picked up once we got to the top – so did my dizzying headache. Once we got to the Pitamaken overlook on the continental divide, I sat on a slab of marble and ate some trail mix in the shade.

The next 3 miles of the trail looked like a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Our footsteps clashed like we were breaking tiles on the shrapnel of sedimentary rock. The rocks above and around us were flaky and layered like good pastry, but horrifying to walk on as they crumble around you. Beneath us was a steep drop down to the vibrant greens of pine forests, cool alpine lakes and trickling rivers, juxtaposing the crumbling gray and brown rocks we balanced and wobbled on. As I rounded the corner, I saw a scruffy white goat in the distance on top of the pass with mountains behind it. It didn’t look anything like the long-haired, fluffy rocky mountain goat you see in all the Glacier National Park merch, but July is shedding season. I took a picture and 4 more goats appeared and started grazing… on what, I don’t know, since I can’t recall anything growing at that altitude. I finally saw my mountain goat, 5 mountain goats. 

Storm clouds rolled in and it’s dangerous to be above the treeline in a storm. I picked up the pace, but the descent proved to be steeper and looser – it’s tricky to get traction on loose sand. The next few miles were a blur, a race against a storm. Eventually, I saw juniper next to my boots and looked up - I made it to a meadow, where things can grow! And I saw trees nearby. As I entered dense brush again, it was hot and humid, I was overheating and stripping layers. The dark clouds brought us some cooling shade and a light sprinkle, but it didn’t last long before the sun, heat and humidity were back and worse than ever. I was so hungry and sore and tired but I just wanted to get out so I kept my pace. 

Once we started bumping into older adults with trekking poles and no water or backpacks, I knew we were close because we parked near a campground. I took off my boots and socks, stood in a cold river to ice my swollen toes and watched a wedding party take pictures with the mountains while I ate trailmix, dirty and sweaty.

It appeared that since ______ was staying for the week, that meant Suna would be staying over for that first night. Atsumu dragged him along and told him he’d be staying over to ‘watch over the lovebirds’ with him. Osamu just shot a dirty look to his brother but sighed. Not much he could do about it really. ______ would be staying in his room anyways. It wasn’t like Suna and Atsumu would be-

“We’ve come to make sure no funny business happens!” Atsumu sang, swinging open the door to Osamu’s room.

“Welcome Atsumu, Suna.” ______ waved at the duo as they marched in. She sat on top of Osamu’s bed, legs crossed, and phone in hand. Osamu sat besides her, doing the exact same thing.

“Ugh, seriously. Nothing? How lame. Y’all are just sitting there on your phones!”

______ just shrugged, giving a smile to Atsumu. He sat down besides her and Suna sat on the otherside. But as Atsumu’s shoulder grazec ______’s her whole hody tensed. She was quick go scoot closer to Osamu, feeling much more comfortable with him. And Osamu was quick to take notice, wrapping a reassuring, protrctivd arm about her shoulder.

“Tsumu. You’re too close. Give her some space.”

“Hah?”

“Ya heard me. Give ______ some space. If you’re going to barge on in, at least, respect her boundaries.”

Atsumu’s eyes lowered as he glared a bit at his brother. Nonetheless he scooted a bit over, giving ______ some space. But she didn’t move back; instead she moved closer to Osamu, leaning into him. She could smell the vague scent of sandalwood and cinnamon. How fitting for him, really. It made her softly smile, heat rising to her cheeks. She felt her body grow heavy as she leaned into Osamu, eyes falling shut.

“Getting sleepy?” Osamu asked. Noticing her eyes shut, he felt a bit bad. She must’ve been going since early in the morning. She’s gotta be exhausted, right?

“Mm, a little bit.” ______ nodded.

“Sleepy?! It’s only nine!”

“Go back to your own room, Tsumu. Take Suna with you.”

“We just got here!”

______ got off the bed, heading to her bookbag, leaving the twins to bicker. She grabbed her pajamas, tooth brush, and tooth paste then bounded off to the bathroom and got ready for bed pretty quickly. It wasn’t that she was tired persay, it was that it was a really long day on the train to get to Hyogo. All she wanted was to hug onto Osamu and pass out in his arms. Maybe watch some videos or a movie together even.

Looking over herself in the mirror, she could see just how the train ride there had affected her. She just looked tired. So she splashed some water on her face, trying to wash away the day’s effects. And with that she headed back to Osamu’s room. Where Suna and Atsumu, unfortunately still were. Atsumu took one look at the short shorts and tshirt she wore, and he shut the hell up. He looked to his brother with a shiteating grin and began to laugh.

“Samusamu,” _______ yawned. She wore a pout and he immediately was on his feet.

“Gimme a sec, kay?” He patted her head, ruffling her hair around a bit before turning to Suna and Atsumu. “Out. Let her get some rest.”

“Oh, we will. But will you?~” Atsumu snickered. He was quick to get on his feet after that comment, hightailing it to his room. Suna only shook his head, following Atsumu after he said good night to Osamu and ______. He was even kind enough to close the door on his way out.

Osamu sighed, body finally releasing all tension that his brother caused. He could focus on just ______ again. He shuffled over to the door, locking it quickly. No more intruders. Not tonight.

“Lemme get changed okay?”

“Okay.”

_______ plopped back down on the bed after placing her dirty clothes in her bookbag. She faced the wall, giving Osamu some pirvacy so he could change. It also gave her a bit of peace and a moment to just breathe. She doesn’t think she could handle seeing him change just yet. Not that she had expectations for his appearance or anything. No, no, no. She knew she would love him even more no matter what he looked like. But, he had to be fit of some sort; after all-

“You can turn around now, princess.”

The hot breath on her neck sent a shiver up her spine. That paired with the teasing nickname made her jump, nearly headbutting the wall. ______ slapped a hand over her ear that Osamu had whispered into, whipping around. He pulled back, chuckling, a wide smile on his face.

“Samu!”

“Sorry, sorry! I couldn’t help it.”

______ turned around fully, pouting. She crossed her arms and narrowed her eyebrows as she looked away from her boyfriend. She could vaguely see that he had a pair of black shorts on and a white shirt. And honestly, he looked good in something so casual.

“Oh, come on now. Don’t be like that,” Osamu cooed. He leaned in close again, placing gentle kisses all over her face. “Ya came all this way. No pouting, now. Besides, ya look cuter when ya smile.”

As Osamu cupped her face and placed soft kisses all over, ______ just huffed and struggled to keep up the pout. But each kiss was a crack in the tough wall she put up. She had missed him so much. And god was she weak for all the affection she was getting.

“Ya know,” Osamu chuckled. “only girls that smile get to have kisses on their lips.”

______ immediately gasped and looked at him with big wide eyes. “B-But....I haven’t gotten any Samu kisses since nationals...”

“I know. So what do ya say?”

As if a lightswitch was flipped, ______ gave the best smile could and batted her eyelashes. She reached out, placing her hands on his shoulders. “Pwease?”

“I suppose I’ll allow it.”

Osamu capture her lips in a chaste kiss, grin spreading on his own. His hands that cupped her cheeks slowly moved. One travelled to her waist and the other cradled the back of her head as the kisses became deeper. ______ could feel the passion in each kiss that Osamu gave. She could drown in it and forget the world. Not that she was complaining by any means. She was so caught up in the taste of chocolate on his tongue that she didn’t register Osamu laying her down on her back on the bed.

Her grip on his shoulders slid down to his shirt, gently hanging onto it as a soft moan left her throat. Between the intoxicating taste of chocolate and the heady kisses, she tried to fight getting lost in it all. She wanted to savour and remember each kiss as her time with him was precious. ______ wasn’t sure when she’d see Osamu again after this short week. So she wanted to remember everything. From the way he hugs to the feeling of his lips on her own. And as much as she loved each kiss she was getting, she wanted nothing more than to curl up in his arms at the moment.

“S-Samu...”

“Hm?”

“C...C-Can we just cuddle? Th-This is nice. I-I-I just...”

The smile on Osamu’s face never faltered as he watched the intense blush appear on his girlfriend’s face. His smile turned to a teasing grin as she stuttered, trying to explain herself.

“Ah, sick of the kisses already?”

“N-No! I...I just...I wanna be held. I missed you..”

Osamu felt his heart stop. How did he even manage did get such a cute girlfriend? He leaned down, placing a gentle kiss to ______’s forehead. “Of course. Anything for ya, princess.”

“O-Osamu!!” she whined at the nickname. She yelped immediately after as he flopped ontop of her, engulfing her. As he rolled over, taking her with him, he encased her in his arms. And as the pair cuddled up, they were greeted with a bang on the wall.

“I THOUGHT SHE WAS RESTING!!” they could hear Atsumu through the wall

“SHUT UP. SHE IS!!” Osamu hollered back. He was readjusted ______ so she stradling his waist, head on his chest. He rubbed her back and kissed the top of her head, blocking out the yells from the other side of the wall. “Get some rest, ‘kay?”

“Okay. Goodnight, Samusamu.”

“Goodnight, princess.”

I’d love to see an active volcano and maybe even an eruption. There’s a lot of history and culture there too and I love learning about the places I visit. Only downside is that it’s really touristic and I don’t feel good in places with too much people. I’m planning on going to french Guyana to see a rocket launch once COVID magically disappears or something. With the way things are going I won’t see Ariane 5 but Ariane 6...

My Review: Okay, first of all, I think my year-long reading slump has officially ended because I don’t think I have ever read a 400-page book this quickly in my life, especially not during the academic year. Second of all, I would honestly die for Casey McQuiston and her books. I literally do not have a SINGLE negative thing to say about this book, which is honestly rare since I usually have at least one, even for five-star books. Casey McQuiston truly wrote a perfect book, and I need her to teach me her ways because if I could write even half this well, I would be overjoyed. Anyway, let’s get into specifics - here are all of the things I loved about Red, White & Royal Blue!!

First of all, Alex is a dork and I absolutely love him. I love all of the characters, and I love that every one of them feels so freaking real, like people I would find walking around my own college campus, except, yaknow, with the added factor of being members of the First Family or being a literal prince. I love that every single one of the relationships (romantic, familial, platonic, or otherwise) in this book felt unique and genuine, and I loved when the characters interacted with each other because they more often than not made me laugh. These characters are written and developed so well that I can so clearly envision their lives beyond the pages and honestly that’s how you know you’ve done your characters justice.

Second of all, the level of representation in this book is absolutely phenomenal, and I loved that it was present enough to be an essential part of the story and the characters, but not enough to be the characters’ only defining factors.

Third of all, where can I find this alternate universe where Ellen Claremont is president instead of certain other people because I would like to be there. NOW. I am so happy that I read this before the 2020 election because instead of panicking about that, I can pretend I’m in this universe instead when election season really kicks off later this year. Seriously, I would love to see That State go blue in 2020 in real life. Oh my goodness. Also, stay tuned for a photo of me in a “History, huh?” tshirt on my Instagram (@melanieraush) on November 3rd. I usually vote by mail because college but I will somehow find a way to be home on Election Day just so I can vote in person in my first presidential election with that shirt on. Oh, also, I love that I’m reading this book right before reading Yes No, Maybe So - ’tis the season for election-themed romance, I guess.

Speaking of romance, I am so glad I read this over Valentine’s Day because the romance in this book is truly EVERYTHING and there were multiple times when I was reading this book in public and could not stop grinning like an idiot. Now that I think about it, I would love to have seen June and Nora date each other but honestly considering how perfect this book was, that’s too much to ask. Anyway. ALEX AND HENRY ARE PERFECT.

I seriously loved every single second of reading this book and it physically pained me to have to put it down to do other things, like, yaknow, to sleep, go to class, and do homework. I highly highly highly recommend this book to literally everyone and I will scream about it forever. WHY DO I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL 2021 FOR A NEW CASEY MCQUISTON BOOK?????

Peter flinches and mutters a curse that echoes around the shower’s walls. The water is boiling hot to the touch. The boy’s surprised it didn’t burn him. He quickly turns the knob of the shower. It reaches a bearable temperature and he begins to wash the grime away. It’s an early morning in Queens, the sunrise peaking through the blinds of the bathroom window, illuminating Peter’s milky skin. The soap on his chest and arms glimmer like a mineral sliced in half. The young boy hums a tune as he scrubs his scalp, shampoo dripping down the back of his neck. He’s erupted by his peaceful shower with a few bangs on the door.

“Peter, hurry up! You’ll be late for the third time this week.” Aunt May calls from the other side. Peter shouts a lackluster “okay” and rinses himself off, cutting his heavenly time short. He steps out and quickly dries himself off. He changes into dark blue boxers, black jeans that hug him in all the right places, and an oversized Midtown School of Science sweatshirt. He brushes his hair and teeth, trying his best to make himself looks presentable. He rushes down the hall to slip on his black vans and sling on his backpack. Aunt May shuffles over and plants a kiss on his forehead.

“Have a great day, Petey. Have your clothes for after school?” Her eyes glimmer with compassion.

“Of course, how could I forget?”

“Be home by eight. Love you.” Peter says it back and before May can take another breath, he’s out the door trampling down the stairs. Today was the first day of volleyball tryouts. Peter has been on school and community teams since middle school. It was his drive and passion. The adrenaline rush of chasing after the ball, feeling it bounce off your forearms, and sliding to your knees to save the volleyball as it’s merically spiked over the net is enough to get Peter coming back for more. He usually played Libero, his favorite position. He was usually the first one to touch the ball once it got over the net. Yelling “mine” and sending the ball who-knows-how-many feet into the air is his favorite part. Also the uniforms. Long sleeve blue and white shirts, black spandex, and knee pads. They’re comfortable and mildly exposing. MJ always jokes that he wears the uniform the best, that it fits him like a vacuum sealed bag. Ned always shook his head in disgust while Peter laughs and nods in thanks.

Peter picks up the pace of his steps as he looks at the time on his phone. 10 minutes before the late bell. Shit. As soon as Peter steps foot into his classroom the bell rings in his ears. He flops down into his seat next to Ned who flashes him a quick smile. Peter wipes the slight sweat accumulating on his hairline. He hears MJ scoff from behind. He whips his head back and raises a confused eyebrows, his puppy eyes locking with Mary’s chocolate ones.

“Nice of you to show up.” MJ grins before continuing. “Your fly is down.”

Peter blubbers and zips his fly. The day goes by slow. All Peter can think about is tryouts. He’s been on the varsity team since freshman year. He doesn’t mean to brag but he thinks he’s pretty damn good. Maybe he could even make it as a captain, even though he’s only a junior. He’s heard word from one of his fellow teammates, Steve, that this year is gonna be real competitive for varsity.

“I heard some of the freshman coming up are kinda powerful. Wade Wilson is one of them.” Steve stops to chug his carton of chocolate milk. “Has a mighty serve. Could take someone’s head off.”

Bucky rolls his eyes from across the lunch table. He’s the best server on the team and one of the best in the state. He murmurs something about believing it when he sees it and goes back to eating his sandwich. Bucky and Steve are the toughest players on the team. They played freshman football until Peter convinced them to do volleyball instead. It’s been history ever since. Peter looks even more lanky and soft compared to the two bulky lumberjack looking men.

“Anyone else?” Peter mumbled through bits of apple. Steve shrugs and looks at Bucky, who’s mouth is twisted to the side. Steve straightens up and his eyes go wide.

“Thor’s brother! Jesus, what’s his name-“ He stammers while snapping his fingers, squinting his eyes shut in thought.

“Loki.” Peter looks up to see Thor standing over the table. His muscular arms straining against his black tshirt as he sets his tray down. “I tried to convince him to do football with me. Volleyball is for girls.”

Peter, Steve and Bucky all groan in sync at that comment. Thor gives a cheeky smirk in response. Thor’s the quarterback of the football team. It would take ten men to take him down, let alone three to move him. He was strong and quick on his feet. Some say he could make it to a national team if he committed. Despite being handsome and athletic, his brains certainly lack.

“There’s nothing wrong with playing a “girly” sport, doofus.” Bucky spat back. “In volleyball, you actually have to use your head instead of ramming it into people’s stomachs.”

Thor chuckled at the brunette’s comment, looking up from his lunch to lock eyes with him. He shook his head and looked down once more. “Whatever you say. I just think Loki would do better with football, that’s all.”

“But Loki isn’t as bulky as you,” Peter pipes up, “He would get a concussion before the first game ended.”

“It’s all part of the fun.” Thor shrugs and finishes his sandwich within three bites. Bucky shakes his head and stands up, tray in hand. He greets everyone goodbye and exits the canteen. Steve quickly does the same, leaving Peter and Thor on opposite ends of the round table. Peter looks down shyly. Thor has always intimidated him, his piercing blue eyes and his rugged figure was enough to send shivers up Peter’s spine. “Don’t tell the others this, but I think you’re the only one who ain’t half bad at the whole volleyball thing.”

Peter felt blush creep up his neck and onto his cheeks. “Thanks, Thor. Bet you already know how good you are at football..”

The bell rings as Thor opens his mouth. Peter scurries away before he can hear what Thor has to say. The rest of the afternoon seems to go by even slower. It leaves Peter staring at the clock all through AP Physics. When the bell finally chimes once more, he practically sprints to the locker room. There he sees familiar faces. Steve, Bucky, Scott, Sam, Clint. But he also sees new faces. A boy with black hair down to his shoulders with a sharp yet welcoming face. Another boy with brown eyes and brown hair and a killer body. His chest plastered with abs and meaty pecs. Peter tries his best not to stare.

Peter changes into a pair of black spandex, a white pizza pi tshirt, knee pads, and black Nike sneakers. Most boys on the volleyball team don’t wear spandex for practice, they usually wear basketball shorts or even sweats some days. Not Peter, he likes the feeling of spandex. The free breeze around his thighs and the squeaking of his legs as they hit the gym floor. He spots Steve and Bucky waiting out for him outside the locker room and they head to the gym. The nets are set up and boys are already warming up. Some are playing pass over the net while others are serving to each other from across the gym.

Something doesn’t feel right though. Peter can’t spot coach Banner. He’s usually there greeting his future team players by the double gym doors. Instead, it’s another man. An attractive man for that matter. He has brown hair with gray locks whipped up into a quiff. Chocolate brown eyes that make you melt like ice cream in July. A scratchy looking beard and mustache covers his cheeks and chin. This isn’t coach Banner. Definitely not.

“Who the hell is that?” Steve’s boisterous comment breaking Peter’s world of fantasy. Peter shakes his head and shrugs.

“No idea. New coach maybe?” Peter squeaks, eyes trailing down the mystery man’s body. He’s incredibly fit. He’s wearing a track suit jacket, the material hugging at his biceps. His sweatpants however hide his presumably muscular legs, but leaving nothing to the imagination around his crotch. Peter gulps. This season could be interesting.

Steve, Bucky, and Peter go to a corner of the gym with a volleyball. They play pass but Peter can’t seem to focus. He keeps glancing over at the man, scratching at his beard and writing on a clipboard.

“Peter, you go!” Steve calls out, serving the ball. Peter shouts a slightly incoherent “I go!” While swooping his arms under the ball sending it flying into the air. He glances over and him and the man make eye contact. The man sends a warm grin and looks down at the board in his hands. Although what he did was simple, he felt a sense of pride and triumph for what he did. That is until the ball fell between his feet. Bucky laughed.

“Peter, dude, the ball was right there. Pay attention.” Peter rolled his eyes, flushing with embarrassment.

“I know, I’m sorry.” Peter served the ball to Bucky a little too hard. Whether it was intentional or not he’ll never figure out. They continue to pass the ball to each other until they hear the whistle. They jog to the middle, kids separated between the nets. They try their best to surround the coach despite that. The man can feel the teens gawk at him, but regains his composure.

“Hello gentlemen. I am your new coach, Mr. Stark. You can just call me Coach Stark if you wish. Mr. Banner and his wife are expecting, so he will not be able to coach your team this year. However, I promise you I’ll do my best to give you the most successful season yet. Before we can even think about that, let’s start with tryouts.” Mr. Stark stumbles around the circle, steps slow and thoughtful.

“There will be three teams. Freshman, JV, and Varsity. Freshman team is self explanatory, but just because you’re a freshman doesn’t mean you’ll be on freshman team. You could possibly do better or not make a team.” Tony chuckles. He watches boys, assuming they’re the freshman, look around wearily. The boy with the long black hair looks like he’s going to be sick.

“JV is junior varsity. Usually underclassmen are on this team and of course theres varsity. I hope you’re all a competitive bunch, it makes it funner; even makes me job harder.” Tony shines a grin that could outshine the sun. “Enough talking. Everyone up for warmups.”

“He seems determined.” Bucky said with a sheepish grin.

“But is he prepared?” Steve replies, jogging to the side of the gym everyone was meeting on.

“He likes a good competition. We’re the ones who should be prepared, especially for me.” Scott gleams while stretching his calves. Clint rolls his eyes while cracking his knuckles. Peter stays silent, desperately trying to focus on the sport.

“Alright boys. Jog, lunge, windmills, jog, skip, and sprint. Let’s go.” Tony barked with a blow of a whistle.

Sweat dribbles down Peter’s back and chest. Some of his once fluffy hair is matting to his forehead. His forearms are turning red from the impact of the volleyballs plummeting at him over the net. His heartbeat and breath is all he can hear.

“This is the last serve, Steve.” Tony shouted from the other side of the net. “Spike it. Show me what you got.”

Steve nodded and threw the ball up. His hand smacked against it, making a sonic boom level of a sound. The smack echoed in Peter’s ears. He dived down onto his knees, sliding onto his belly as the ball bounces off of his forearms. It goes over the net, perfectly landing into Steve’s hands.

“Excellent work, uh, Parker! Yes, Parker.” Tony howls. Peter shakily stands up and nods in thanks. Tony blows his whistle, dismissing the boys. “Come to practice tomorrow, 2PM sharp, all of you.”

Peter jogs to the locker room. Soon, the changing room fills with conversations. About practice, how raw their forearms and knees were, and Coach Stark. Peter looks over to Bucky with his hand on the boy with the long hair’s shoulder. He looks shaken and tired.

“You did a great job today, Loki! You’re a better athlete than your brother.” Bucky boomed. Loki chuckled and looked down at his shiny sneakers. Peter smiles to himself and hops in the shower, lazily rinsing himself off. He could stay in the shower forever, but definitely not here. He dries himself off and changes back into his old school clothes. When he strolls out of the locker room, Steve is waiting for him.

“Mind if I walk you home?” Steve smiles and holds out his hand. Peter rolls his eyes and reluctantly grabs his hand.

“Whatever, dork.”

They walk out into the mild mid September air. The sunset illuminates the yellow taxis and brick buildings. At first they walk in silence, listening to the horns and passing chatters of people. Until Steve speaks up.

“Loki’s good. Like, really good.” Peter nods, not really caring to know who’s good and who’s not.

“Yeah, well, his brother is Thor after all.” Steve nods nervously.

“Bucky seems to be impressed.” He huffs under his breath. Peter shoves his hands into his pocket and furrows his eyebrows. “It takes a lot to impress him.”

“Why does it matter? You’ll make varsity, with Loki playing or not.” Peter scoffs, nothing touching the fact that Bucky is impressed. He knows Steve has always liked Bucky in more than a friendly nature. If he ever tells Steve he has a clue, his head would blow off to the moon.

“You’re right.” Steve mutters. They walk in silence until they reach Peter’s complex. Peter waves goodbye and walks up the steps to the door. However, something compels him and he looks back to see Steve still standing there.

“You gonna go home?” Peter utters.

“What do you think of the new coach?”

Peter pauses for a moment. “He’s alright, Go home, Rogers.”

Peter pushes open the door and leans up against it. He runs his hands through his damp hair and smiles. For the first time in a while, he’s looking forward to going to school tomorrow.

The pain from his manhood made him forgive his own moral slip up, now he’s just praying to whatever deity there is that you not move anywhere closer to his aching member that had just receded in defeat. “Yoongi…” You whispered in your sleep, his heart ached once more and now he’s back to his normal and composed self, still suffering from pain in the guts but now he managed to pull you back for an embrace. A vibration from the phone on the nightstand woke you up, a few seconds later the phone started ringing as well. Y/n’s birthday flashed on the screen when you reached for it and now you’re jumping over the sleeping Yoongi, not knowing that he’s only been sleeping for an hour now. Kicked back to senses by the frantic movements, Yoongi pulled up with a phone screen flashing over his face. He took the phone off your hands and put it back on the night stand, there you were again straddling his thighs but Yoongi had just learned his lesson the hard way. You stopped bouncing but your face bearing the biggest closed lipped smile and your tail swinging high, Yoongi swore you were the cutest and the sweetest birthday girl ever, not that he’s known a lot of girls or a lot of people in general anyways, but still. “Goodmorning princess, happy birthday-” and with that, you threw the biggest hug over Yoongi. He wrapped his arms around your waist and lulled you gently with his deep bed voice humming a tune of happy birthday through your hair. At the last note you pulled back an arm length to clearly see his face, you felt your cheeks heating up then tears start rolling. You simply felt overjoyed. You could just stay there, like any other day, together with Yoongi and still call it the best among best days of your life. To have someone like him, as your mama promised, who would be there for you for whatever reason that is that you both feel towards each other. You still don’t have the exact word for it but you have the idea from so many books you’ve flipped. But you don’t need words. You knew. You know he knew. But maybe, someday, you’ll have to say it aloud. Not just in your minds, but from your heart with your actual voice. Yoongi can’t ever be grateful enough for what the world conspired for him, all the indifferences he endured and the closed walls that trapped him which he wouldn’t admit but in fact suffocated him for so long, has now been trampled to nothingness since fate has brought him to you. He’d forgotten or forgiven everyone and everything, you made him when you came over his life. You pulled Yoongi to land a soft kiss on his lips, you touched and cleared his forehead which you palmed overnight and landed a kiss on it as well. Yoongi’s hand gently brushed your hair, creeping higher and higher until his fingers touch the back of your perky ears. You winced in surprise but a purr of satisfaction rose out of you, since you’ve waited for this for oh so long. Yoongi couldn’t help but smile to your now overly relaxed figure, shoulders fallen and cute round eyes reduced to slits pushed by your cheeks ever so high from a closed lip smile. “Come on now, y/n. I have so much wonders for you to see today, don’t drop your energy like that.” “But Yoongi, this is the best. Let’s just stay here in bed pleaaaaase” you pretty pleased making Yoongi chuckle “alright princess, just a minute more. You can have all of this when we get back from todays adventure, and tomorrow and the day after tomorrow” he assured you with a bop on your nose “Yoongi, you’re the best!” “I’m ready Yoongi, let’s go!” you’re done wearing your sneakers but still Yoongi hasn’t come down from his room yet. “Y/n! Come here one sec, I have something for you.” You ran upstairs excitedly, Yoongi handed you lots of paper bags filled with pastel colored things. Your tail wagged as your eyed the lovely colors inside while Yoongi took a step out of the room. “Wear what you find the prettiest baby girl, I’m sure they’d all look good on you.” These are your first dresses, after a long time. Ever since you stayed with Yoongi, you wore nothing but unisex shirts, pants, and shorts since the poor guy had no one he could ask for to shop in the female section just for you. For the undies, Seokjin took care of the business in advance. You didn’t mind. You would never mind. Not if Yoongi wore similar things as yours. He only managed to grab the same things on smallest sizes hoping they’d fit you, and they did. But in anticipation for today, he ventured on the other sides of the stores to look for clothes that are pretty enough to suit you. The pursuit wasn’t easy though. In the end, he just bought all too many just praying that something could actually fit you since apparently he had to know numerous sizes he’s avoiding to meddle with. “Yoongi!” You called. He was just waiting outside the door where when he peeked, you pulled completely open and you turned around giddily as you displayed the baby blue dress you’re wearing. First checking the length, the dress fell below you knee, okay. Then the hips, not too small for you to move about, not too lose either. Next the waist, and oh, Yoongi never have paid attention to how small your waist was but there the dress was actually loose when it should be tighter. Lastly the chest, “Oh gah-“, the dress fitting was so confusing, when you look closer it was similar to what the other girls usually wore just above the knee but looking at you- You look tiny and cute and curvy and superfuckin’ sexy- Yoongi gasped at the thought. He swallowed the once again arising ache he suffered just last night and turned his back on you in a halt. “B-baby can you change into something else.. something please you look so pretty in that dress I don’t want to share you to the world.” You were almost hurt by his reaction thinking you looked terrible, but his words swept away the tears slowly forming in your eyes, and you blushed instead. “Okay Yoongi, just wait there. You don’t have to go outside.” And there Yoongi stood in panic trapped with you in a suddenly such a small room which used to be so spacious even with 10 people inside. He can hear the rumble of a fallen garment to the floor, his heart wouldn’t seize its wild beating. He tried holding his breath and deprive his brain of oxygen hoping it would help numb his senses and it did- You had to tap Yoongi’s shoulder to call his attention, you made a turn again to display the cute pink dress with red ribbons across your body. Yoongi examined tensely. Length, okay. Hips, okay. Waist, a bit loose. Chest, A BIG NO. “Find another one baby, sorry. Please bear with me, you can wear that inside the house, not outside. I can’t-“ “Sure Yoongi” you cut his words knowing already how this hard this is for him. You know he’s tensed and you don’t want to push him over, you just need to get properly dressed soon so you can start your adventures right away. “What about this?” You mused the simple white dress. While the two of you are so busy exchanging stories, the two other men talked in all seriousness. Seokjin tried to ask Yoongi if they could move to the other table so they could chat properly, but Yoongi suddenly went fuming with the idea with a HELL NO! a bit too loud for a whisper, but wasn’t enough to call your attention. You knew they wanted to talk in private, to maybe some sensitive topics they both wouldn’t want you to hear, but your ears are just too sensitive no matter how many tables they flipped through the room you’d know what they’re talking about. Yoongi knew that too. And the thought of you giving all of your ears to Taehyung was why he’s getting mad right now. You only pretended to be enthusiastic and attentive to Taehyung, not that you didn’t really like talking to him, you just very much prefer if it would be Yoongi not him. But they’re busy, you shouldn’t be so greedy with him. It’s only Seokjin, and they have to talk about you. The dinner came to an end and the psychiatrist reached out to you, looking over to Yoongi first asking by mind if it’s okay to give your hand to Seokjin, he nodded, and you carefully placed your palm on top of Seokjin’s hand. He then took out his other arm hiding behind him and there appeared the same book he gave the personnel arranging your papers that night. Your eyes gleamed at the sight. You could’ve jumped up and down if not for the tensed Yoongi behind you, once again you feel grateful. You just bowed your head for like 3 seconds to him, and flash him very cute smiling face as you rise up. With that, you bid farewell to the guys while one of your hands clutching the book against your chest and the other squeezing hard on Yoongi’s hand. Before the car door closes, you hear your name being whispered from a distance. This is Seokjin’s voice. “Y/n, I know you know already. You are highly intelligent. I’ve seen where your owner got you and it’s amazing how she managed to raise you being one of the most fragile of the generations of your kind. This dinner wasn’t meant to check on you, but Yoongi. Now, you have to make him read the book, and discuss it like you always do with him. You have to get him say the words, you got to make this work. You can do this! I’m so happy for the two of you.” Yoongi patiently waited by your side as you seemingly spaced out suddenly, in a moment or two, you removed your hand restraining the car door and with a smile, Yoongi closed it for you. Your drive home was a quiet and peaceful one. Overwhelmed with so much knowledge and emotions, you fell asleep in no time. Meanwhile, Yoongi is silently drowning in his thoughts. If he was being honest, he’d rather not take you out to the world. He wanted to keep you to himself, like you’ve always been. But then he wouldn’t be any different to the cagers who locked you down on that miserable place. The gaze you bore through his memory from that night, he feared it so much. He’d never want to be the one to inflict such fear and pain in you in the future, this is what pushed him to compose himself and decide to let you out and see the world. BACKGROUND:

Ted grew up on Valentia Island, a small muggle town on Ireland. His father was a science teacher, and his mother a mathematician and researcher. He grew up on formulas and numbers and facts and science. Anything that he could make sense of, he found comforting. Like home.

[ Alcoholism tw:// ] Money was always an issue and they could just make ends meet, never any room for luxuries. Though that didn’t stop Ted’s father from finding himself looking down the barrel of a bottle a little bit too much. That also put a strain on the family, and the economics.

His mother, Eliana Tonks ( née McNamara ), mostly worked from home. She balanced her research career in maths ( trying to get published, applying for grants, doing the occasional guest lectures at schools ) with motherhood. She had two children from a previous marriage, both older than Ted. She was a caring mother, but also somewhat unstable, prone to mental breakdowns.

Ted also spent a considerable amount of time with Eliana’s mother, Dorothy McNamara —- and some of Ted’s fondest memories are from her farm, the scent of newly baked cinnamon rolls seemingly always hanging in the air.

Also helped out at her farm a lot and took care of her animals.

For years, he constantly worked overtime, took on extra work, barely ever saw his kids or his wife. Still couldn’t quite make ends meet. So he found comfort elsewhere, whiskey numbing his feelings, his soul, his thoughts.

Ted has four SIBLINGS — two older half brothers, and two younger sisters. Pretty early on, Ted took on a lot of responsibility regarding his siblings (really wanted to help his mom out, mostly), and spent countless hours playing with his sisters, taking them out on the ferry, trying to distract them from the problems at home. Ted is great with kids so !!!! That’s that!!!!

HOGWARTS YEARS:

The LETTER arrived with a peculiar man on a rainy Monday morning. It was explained to the Tonks family that their middle son, Edward, was a wizard. Brian got a good laugh out of that one. It would take a couple of weeks ( and another few visits ) to convince him that this wasn’t a con. Brian was a man of science after all - and men like him did not believe in magic.

So Ted was shipped off to Hogwarts, and became a HATSTALL ( just for long enough that Ted was sure that the hat had changed his mind about him, send him right back to Ireland ). Stuck between Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, the hat eventually settled on Ravenclaw.

Ted was SHAMELESSLY MUGGLEBORN, from the very start. Homework was written with a pencil, instead of ink, muggle bands could be heard playing from his dorm (mostly the Rolling Stones), his mother sent him issues of national geographic and new scientist, which he read over breakfast at the Ravenclaw table. REBELLING against the wizard norms was 100% Ted’s brand.

But also fully EMBRACED WIZARD CULTURE!!!! Was that kid who always asked questions, tried everything that he could and always craved more!!!

Had a FROG for the first three years at Hogwarts ( called Toad, we love being practical ), and then got a cat instead ( called Neptune ).

During the summers, Ted was enrolled in SUMMER SCHOOL, and took muggle classes.

His FAVORITE CLASS at Hogwarts was probably arithmancy, but he also excelled in charms, herbology and transfiguration.

Attempted to join the QUIDDITCH TEAM during his third year, but didn’t make it. Continued being an avid supporter instead.

While at Hogwarts, Ted was FAIRLY POPULAR. He was always taking care of the younger kids ( even though he was never made prefect ), could be seen wearing jeans and a tshirt on his off days, was quite charming, told cheeky jokes to make people around him smile and overall just gave zero shits about what people thought of him. He was also that big, muscular dude who at first glance, you’d totally expect to be a crude jock, but then he’s not, and instead walks you to your dorm, always the perfect gentleman. Ted was lowkey just everyone’s cool older brother.

Ted was mostly interested in LEARNING. He wanted to learn about everyone around him, about magic, about their history. Also studied his ass off, and was at the top of his class. 

As a person, Ted was always KIND, a nice guy to his very core. But he was also COLD, somehow used to dulling his emotions, his senses, his heart ( he really is his father’s son, isn’t he? ). Instead focusing on other people - their hardship, their emotions, how can he help? He got used to always PUTTING HIMSELF LAST early on, already as a young child, so it was hardly any different at Hogwarts.

Definitively sneaked into the kitchen a couple times a week (and definitively found the house elf situation mortifying too, lbr).

Ted was of the conviction that if he tried hard enough - he could MAKE FRIENDS with anyone. Never met a stranger. Unfortunately that wasn’t quite the case, and he became the target of BULLIES during his first four years at the school. Ted always gave as good as he got though, quickly finding where his kindness ended - and where something darker began.

Had a pretty CAREFREE HOGWARTS EXPERIENCE, overall though? Mostly stayed in his own lane, studied a lot, went to parties, probably read every book in the library. Made a lot of friends but also some enemies. 

AFTER HOGWARTS / PERSONALITY:

Ted graduated with top marks, but had no further great ambitions beyond that. The dream was to open up a BAKERY, run it for a few years, and then move on to the next big thing.  He’s a firm believer in that there is a certain science to the perfect cake - that it takes more than a recipe. He’s also a firm believer in getting to know people, and what better way to do that than over cake, right?

Unfortunately, the war looming on the horizon pulled him in another direction. So after Hogwarts, he studied to become a healer, a work that although meaningful, never really excited him. So he worked at St Mungos for a couple of years, and did what he had always done. Stitched people up, put them back together. Completely detached from what he was doing, everything just felt like PRETEND. He perfected his bedside manner, a false smile always resting on his lips. He pretended not to notice when someone’s dark mark slipped. Everyone’s the same, to Ted, when he’s working. He doesn’t differentiate between the sinners and the saints, the good and the bad. 

After two years at St Mungos, he had a sudden change of heart, and made a swift career change. Hospital was changed in for the battle field as he became a MEDIWIZARD. 

And suddenly, he found himself in the center of the storm. Quickly patching people up, dodging spells, finding body parts. Somehow he finds himself always covered in someone’s blood. Sometimes it’s his own.

He only works in the medical field because of NECESSITY. He has no great aspirations to become a high level healer, and the job itself doesn’t draw him in. Though being in the field gets his heart racing, it’s not something he particularly enjoys and he mostly just does it because he wants to HELP. Can’t stand seeing all this mayhem, all this pain. It’s in his very nature to want to pick up the pieces, it doesn’t matter who it is. Ted grew up in an environment where he was the constant fixer of things, the glue that kept the family together, the little diplomat. That never changed.

What did change however was his DRIVE! Over the years, Ted has grown more and more DETACHED from what he does, what he sees. It’s incredibly hard to stay gentle in the society he lives in ( where a large group of people want to see him dead ), so Ted has grown more and more closed off. His heart is still made of gold, but he’s detaching himself from it. Coldness seeping into his bones, his blood. He hasn’t realized it himself, but he stopped properly caring a long time ago. He’s so tired.

LISTEN! These days, the only thing that Ted really, really cares about is his family!! Can you blame him? People want to kill him for who he is and meanwhile all he’s trying to do is save people :/// damn it :///

OKAY SO - let’s talk about THE ORDER!!! Ted helps out, when he can. But he doesn’t directly involve himself in their business, because 1) he suspects that some of his wife’s family members are death eaters, and he doesn’t want to do that to her / to have to fight his extended family. 2) Ted is definitively not a fighter - he’s the fixer, the healer, the guy you go to when you have a problem you can’t quite figure out on your own. 

Aligning himself with a side thus doesn’t feel quite right to him, since he’s out in the field, trying to remain objective, trying to help people on both sides. Not saying it isn’t a challenge, but homeboy is trying!

SO ----- Ted is a big old SOFTIE with a heart of gold. He embodies kindness down to his very core, and there usually isn’t a mean bone in his body. His name suits him well --- Ted is a teddy bear.

Ted is also incredibly TIRED. Years of working right in the middle of the war has taken its toll on him, and he’s getting fed up with all of it, tbh. Not that he’d ever say so. 

At this point though, Ted is starting to become more and more RESERVED, because as a medic, he has seen the things people do to each other, the things they are capable of. It makes him sick, and he’s growing increasingly detached from the people around him because of it.

Though guarded, Ted is pretty OUTGOING still! He just doesn’t let anyone (except for his wife!!!!) too close, anymore. Prefers to keep everyone at a distance. Ted has buried a lot of his friends and he’s getting pretty tired of that too. :/

Ted is so nice that he can be sort of INDULGENT? Lets people get away with a lot, and is overly permissive / forgiving & lenient at a great personal cost.

Also very SELF SACRIFICING. Puts EVERYONE before himself, always. It’s a problem.

Total OVERANALYZER and occasional overthinker. Typical Ravenclaw.

But also very easy going - literally the most chill guy ever. For better or for worse.

Try getting a rise out of this man!!!! You can’t!!! You could literally spit in his face and he’d just wipe it off and continue on with what he was doing. He does not give a single fuck - his skin is made of steel.

Tip: insult his wife / daughter and he might crack!!!

Can be incredibly APATHETIC!! Every now and then, the light in his eyes goes out, flickers and fades, and his usually SOFT HEART grows cold.

With that said, you wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of Ted’s hatred. It’s very rare, but absolutely SEETHING. Ted’s a patient guy. He can wait until the moment is right to strike back, ya feel.

Ted is sort of OBSESSIVE. Especially with the idea of fixing things ---- putting things back together. It stems from his childhood ( which I talked about earlier ). He’s a problem solver, a chronic fixer, a helper. He doesn’t know any other way to be, so he physically can’t stop himself from getting involved. 

In Ted’s mind, there is ALWAYS a solution. ALWAYS. Hence why he is taking this war so hard. He can’t solve a whole war, but he’s having a hard time coming to terms with that. Unfortunately, logic and reason can’t fix this. SUCKS.

[ PTSD tw:// ] Ted is slowly developing PTSD. He is ALWAYS there for the worst parts of the war and its aftermath. He has seen so much. So the nightmares never stop - at this point, they continue when he wakes up too.

In chaotic / dangerous situations, Ted just SHUTS DOWN. Acts on auto pilot. Becomes incredibly stoic, calm, lifeless. Phlegmatic to a fault.

Currently, Ted is mostly just done. #over this war!!

OTHER STUFF:

Definitively a vegetarian!!

Favorite color is green.

LOVES cooking and is lowkey an experimental chef? Likes seeing what happens when he adds stuff together.

But leans more towards baking!!! He’s still chasing that perfect cake. There’s a chemical reaction out there, somewhere, that he WILL find. Give him time!

Very Dad!! Loves Dora SO much. Wants to change the world for her.

Quietly teaching Dora math and science at home. Also slowly introducing her to muggle history and muggle technology and muggle music. It’s important to Ted that Dora knows where she comes from. That there is nothing wrong with who she is ( who they are ).

On that note, Ted cares so much about math and science! He loves anything that just makes sense. To this day, Ted will still read science books and magazines. 

LOVES animals and is so good with them too, which he learned when he worked his grandmother’s muggle farm as a teenager !!
