Recipe #121 - Cowabubble
The ice cream in the game is actually white and not bubble-gum flavored, but that's boring so whatever lol.
Tumblr media
This was so satisfying to make! Very simple ingredients and when you fold them into each other you get this sort of pastel, tie-dye effect. Felt like I was doing arts and crafts rather than baking (is ice cream baking?) It's also fun to eat because the rainbow from the gumballs melts into the light blue ice cream. The bubble gum flavor wasn't overwhelming but wasn't overpowered by other ingredients either, as with most flavor extracts, a little bit goes a long way.
I feel like this gave me more gelato vibes vs. ice cream. Very soft and extremely sugary. The condensed milk brought on the sweetness and creaminess, while the whipping cream kept things fluffy and light. I gotta say, the gumballs, while cute, are rock hard out of the freezer, so I mostly just ate around them. Then again, I'm not a gum person to begin with.
Recipe:
Here is my source
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 can sweetened condensed milk
Blue food coloring
1 tsp bubble gum flavoring
6 oz. gumballs
This ice cream has major "kid's birthday party" vibes, but this 30 year old enjoyed it just fine ;)

Day two of Drewtober so here is my offering... a papercraft version of my interpretation of the Sopresa Chocolate box (maybe with an extra surprise inside). I threw the pattern below the cut if anyone else wants to make their own tiny chocolate box (poisoned chocolate and/or Koko Kringles not included)

These should be scaled for standard letter size paper (8.5"x11"). It works best on cardstock. It works on normal printer paper but is more flopsy.

hi!! i saw you had compiled a list of nancy drew recipes and one of them is the soup called “a keene soup” from the 1973 cookbook. the link seems to be broken though, do you still have access to a copy of this recipe? thank you!!
Hi! I'm sorry the link wasn't working. I made that post a while ago so I'm sure that, unfortunately, a lot of the links no longer work.
Tumblr media
This is a picture I have from somewhere online but I also have both the 1973 and 2005 cookbooks. So if there are any recipes you or anyone else want but can't find, I'd be more than happy to share! just send recipe names :)

can you write some headcanons where you're johnathans twin sister or something and your dating Steve?
Dating Steve Harrington and Being Jonathan’s Twin Sister
headcanons
Tumblr media
summary: what it’s like to date steve “the hair” harrington while being a byers kid
pairing: steve harrington x fem!reader (byers!reader)
WARNINGS: mentions of canon typical violence, plot inconsistencies bc i have the memory of a goldfish
note: gonna try not to make this one as annoyingly long as my steve x henderson!reader but we will see !! this has no spoilers for stranger things 4 bc truthfully i don’t remember it enough to write the plot out
You and Steve definitely did not get off on the right foot at first. “King Steve” and his obnoxious friends relentlessly tormented your brother, going as far as breaking his camera.
Tommy H and Carol teased you sometimes, as well, but your friendship with Nancy Wheeler protected you from receiving the same torment that your brother received.
When you found out your younger brother, Will, had gone missing, you and Jonathan found comfort in each other, both of you recognizing the horrible and frankly, insane state your mother was in.
Steve had even (reluctantly) brought over a casserole, which he claimed was from his mother, but in reality, he and Nancy spent hours looking for recipes and had multiple trial casseroles waiting at home to be eaten.
After seeing how caring and sweet Steve really was, your feelings for him began to change. You really appreciated his help and support while things were going to hell in Hawkins.
After Will was finally home and things were relatively back to normal, you and Steve had even started a small friendship, much to your brother’s distaste. However, even Jonathan didn’t hold much of a grudge against Steve after they reconciled.
You were especially thankful the following year, when Steve had taken the party under his wing, protecting them when things started to go to hell again.
Around the same time, Steve and Nancy’s relationship came to an end. You noticed Jonathan and Nancy had been spending more time together as well.
While Will was possessed by the Mind Flayer, Steve became a support system for you. While Jonathan was seeking comfort from Nancy, you found yourself frequently wrapped in Steve’s arms.
Obviously, in a purely platonic way. Steve was a great friend, a fantastic friend, even.
These new relationships greatly confused you and Jonathan.
“What’s up with you and Nancy?” “What’s up with you and Steve?”
Even though the situation is a little confusing, Jonathan is the biggest Y/N and Steve supporter. No matter how many times you explain that your relationship with Steve is completely platonic, Jonathan still doesn’t believe it.
“Yeah, right. You don’t see the way you look at him.” “Jonathan, I swear to god”
Even Will joins in, teasing you about your “nonexistent” crush on Steve.
“I drew this picture for you. There’s you, me, and Jonathan, and then over here is Steveholdingyourhand” The words rushed out of his mouth and he held back a laugh as you grumbled but still took the drawing.
Steve loves coming over to your house. His house is so quiet and cold. He thinks your house feels more like a home. Even though it’s small and sometimes a little messy, he thinks it’s cozy and warm.
He also loves Joyce and Will. Joyce has this need to take care of any kid who walks into her house and Steve is absolutely at the top of the list. His mother isn’t like that at all so he definitely basks in the attention.
Will makes Steve wish he had a younger sibling. He tries to spend as much time as he can with Will. Next to Dustin, Will is the kid in the party that Steve is closest to. Will loves Steve and appreciates that Steve listens to him and lets him ramble on about DnD, his favorite TV shows, etc.
The next summer, Steve takes a job at the new Starcourt Mall. You like to visit him at work, coming to order ice cream at least 3 times a week. Sometimes, you take Will with you.
Robin bugs Steve about you for weeks, encouraging him to ask you out.
Of course, right when he finally builds up the courage, things start to get bad in Hawkins again.
You and Steve don’t reunite again until after the Battle of Starcourt. While the Scoops Troop were infiltrating secret Russian bases, you and the party were focused on whatever the hell was going on with Billy Hargrove.
You’re sitting outside the burning mall when Steve approaches you. Your mom, Will, and Jonathan are all okay and everything feels like it could relatively go back to normal.
You notice the cuts and bruises littering his face and the bags around his eyes. His hair is falling in front of his face and you tenderly push it back for him. His arms wrap around your waist and he pulls you in for a hug that lasts suspiciously longer than usual.
“I love you.” He spits out quickly before his adrenaline rush wears off. He’s frozen and it feels like it takes centuries for you to respond.
“I love you, too” He releases a breath, leaning down to kiss you softly.
A few feet away, Will nudges Jonathan, pointing to the scene in front of them. Jonathan groans, squinting his face up in disgust at the sight of his sister locking lips with Steve Harrington.
“You owe me $20.” “Yeah, yeah, I know” Will smiles proudly, glad that at least something good came out of this disaster.
Jonathan and Steve weirdly become pretty good friends after this. While Jonathan is still fiercely protective of his baby sister (who, in reality, is only 3 minutes younger than him) and would kick Steve’s ass for a second time if he had to, they find out that they actually have a lot in common.
Steve fits right in with your family. He’s very respectful and kind and they all love him so much.

Ground Rules
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Angus Macgyver x FemReader
Warnings: fluff, minor angst, just two first time parents trying to figure it out
Summary: Much to your dismay your shared child seems to take after Mac and his curious ways. You had heard the stories about his unique childhood and if you didn’t get it under control soon, your daughter was bound to follow right in his foot steps.
word count: 1.5k

Tumblr media
When you had first started dating Mac there had never really been any rules. It wasn’t until you moved in together you finally had to put some in place. You had you tripped over one to many contraptions and been a little too close to some minor explosions that had you deciding on no experiments in the house. After a minor fight he finally agreed and Mac followed that rule to the best of his abilities and you appreciated him for it.
What you had never expected was having a kid just like him. You don’t know why it never crossed your mind that it was possible for your child to have Mac’s intelligence. To be honest you wished you would’ve and you could’ve prepared yourself for all that was to come with a curious mind desperate to learn. You had heard all those stories about Mac when he was a kid, blowing up football fields and smoking out labs, but none of it ever really felt real until now. They finally felt real because your daughter had now taken it upon herself to do science experiments anywhere she can.
You had left for only ten minutes. That was it. Ten peaceful minutes to go out and do some minor yard work. She was reading a Nancy Drew book on the couch when you left but when you had returned, the eight year old girl had covered the kitchen in what looked like some sort of green foam. It takes your mind only a second to go haywire, panic setting in, fear of chemicals, and misdirected anger at your husband.
“Jackie! What is going on?” you rush towards her, making quick work of pulling her away from the mess.
“Elephant toothpaste, I saw it on TV and Dad told me how to make it” you were sure smoke was steaming out of your ears by now. As proud as you were for how smart your daughter was, these actions could become hazardous.
“Honey, I need you to tell me what exactly is in elephant toothpaste?” you ask as calmly as you can, keeping your voice even as if to not scare her off.
“Hydrogen peroxide, yeast, dish soap, water, and food coloring for some fun!” she claps excitedly, eyeing that very mixture on the kitchen counter. Now calming over the harmless ingredients you look at where she has some foam now stuck in her curly blonde hair.
“All that made a huge mess in my kitchen?” you ask, reaching for a dish towel and wiping away as much as you can in her hair.
“Well I tripled the recipe for a bigger explosion” she says as if the sentence alone doesn’t make your heart stutter. Letting out a deep sigh you stand back up and start to guide her to the bathroom.
“You definitely are you father’s daughter” you mutter, hands squeezing her shoulders.
“You should’ve seen it Mom, it was huge!” she cheers excitedly as you start down the hallway.
“Let’s get you in the bath” you tell her and she just smiles wide, clearly content with what she had just accomplished and you now had to clean up.
Once filling the tub with warm water you help your daughter step out of her elephant toothpaste splattered dress and into the bath. Offering her a bath bomb she keeps her curious mind occupied as you step out and figure out how to prepare yourself for the cleaning you had ahead of you.
“What happened here?” you find your blonde husband with an amused smile on his face, eyes scanning the green foam.
“Someone decided to make elephant toothpaste, have any idea where she got that from?” you ask crossing your arms and Mac looks up to find you are not as amused as him in this situation.
“Shit baby I’m so sorry. I didn’t think she’d actually attempt it, much less inside the house” he says walking over to you and you sigh, trying your best to not place all the blame on him.
“It’s fine, I just have to figure out how to clean it now” you say, hands reaching up to push the hair out of your face. It had already been a long day and the last thing you needed was this.
“It’s okay, I got it. I’ve done elephant toothpaste a time or two” he says, hands reaching to squeeze each of your arms, and you offer a weak smile.
“She’s gonna be trouble, just like you” you say with an accusing finger and Mac smiles before pulling you close and wrapping his arms around your waist.
“Maybe, but at least I know how to handle it. When I was blowing things up I never had anyone who understood me” Mac says and you give him a panicked look.
“I didn’t say anything about blowing things up” you tell him, head beginning to shake and Mac quickly stops you.
“I know but I happened to remove an entire football field once in my life. Maybe I can keep hers contained to a small park or something” he teases but you give him a stern look that says you’re not ready to joke about this just quite yet.
“How about no explosions and no more experiments in our home?” you say and Mac clearly mulls it over. You know he wants to cater to his daughter’s curious mind, provide her with every opportunity he could to learn, but could that be done at the expense of your kitchen?
“One explosion and experiments in the yard?” he counter offers and you sigh.
“No explosions and experiments small enough to not alert neighbors in the yard” you finalize and he nods with a grin.
“I can accept that” he says before pressing a chaste kiss to your lips. “Now where’s our little scientist, I want to applaud her”
“She’s taking a bath, you can say hi after you clean up this mess” you tell him, hands pressing against his chest and in the direction of the green foam.
“And what about you?” he asks, a small pout to his lips and you slowly press a kiss to them. The pout gone in seconds.
“I’m going to help her out of the bath and then we’re going to set some rules” you tell him and he nods, saluting you as you walk back to the bathroom to find Jackie hadn’t even washed her hair yet.
It’s only an hour later you finally have the small girl in fresh pajamas, damp hair combed, and sat between you and Mac on the couch. The Nancy Drew book from before is open on her lap and you finally give Mac a look to tell him it’s time to set some rules and create boundaries for her.
“Jackie honey?” you coo, fingers reaching to push away the book for a moment.
“Yeah Mom?” she says, half distracted and trying to chase the page as it moves away from her.
“We wanted to talk to you about your little experiment today” you tell her and Mac nodded, blue eyes finding his daughter’s matching ones.
“Yeah honey, just a quick chat” and at her father’s words she finally closes the book on her lap.
“We love that you enjoy learning new things. It’s amazing the things you already understand, but we need to set some rules” you tell her and a sad look flashes across her features in seconds.
“You made a big mess today, one that worried your Mom. So there can’t be anymore experiments in the house” Mac says and the girls is instantly defeated, a gasp leaving her mouth.
“But Dad, it was just elephant toothpaste. It wasn’t dangerous!” she whines and Mac shakes his head, staying firm and on your side.
“Yeah but your Mom didn’t know that. So there is going to be no more experiments in this house unless approved and supervised by one of us” he tells her and her lip instantly quivers as her arms cross over her chest.
“But you and Dad can do as many experiments in the yard as you want and he’s also agreed to bring you to his lab at work once a week to learn something new” you comfort the sad girl, arm wrapping around her.
“You promise?” she asks, hopeful eyes looking up at her Dad.
“Of course honey, pinky promise. We want you to grow and learn but science can be dangerous and it’s important we treat every experiment as that” he tells her and she nods even though you know she’s not entirely on board yet.
“Does that mean I have to tell you about the habitat I’m growing in my closet?” she whispers and you flash a worried look to Mac who is trying his best not to laugh.
“Well, why don’t we go find out” he says, standing and lifting the girl to dangle over his shoulder. The giggles and squeals she lets out are a stark contrast to the somber mood she was just in and you can’t help but smile as you watch them disappear down the hallway.
“Is that a toad?!” you hear Mac’s voice bellow down the hallway and you are quick to stand to your feet and rush down the hallway.
“Oh hell no”

Get a copy of the Clue Crew Zine Done Cheap mailed to you!
UPDATE 4-19-24: The mailing address form is now closed!
---
The submission period is over for the Clue Crew Zine Done Cheap, which means that it's time for NEXT STEPS: layout, proofreading, printing, and mailing.
And in order to be able to mail them, I need mailing addresses!
To get a physical copy mailed to you (for free!), fill out this form. The form will stay open through Sunday April 14th, and zines will be mailed out at the end of April.
To get a digital copy emailed to you, fill out this form. The zines will also be available for direct download, but sometimes it's more fun to get something sent to you. It's like a special present that arrives in your inbox.
If you want to read more about this project, you can go to my initial post here, but the gist is that this is a fun, low-key and low-cost zine for the Nancy Drew games. Contributions were open to anyone, and I'm printing them out at home and mailing them to anyone who wants them.
FAQs:
This is free?
Yes, 100%. If mailing costs exceed the stamps I already have, then I might make a post asking people to chip in if they can, but that will be fully optional.
I'm a little uncomfortable giving my address to a tumblr stranger.
Totally understandable! That's why the mailing address form doesn't ask for your username, and providing an email address is not required. The goal is to be unable to link your name and address to who you are online.
If you're still not sure about providing your address, you can always get a digital copy and then print it out for yourself!
How long is the zine? What's in it?
The layout is in progress, but it's going to be about 20 half-size pages, with contributions from: @abyssgazesalsointoyou, @ethelthebossiny, @gaypapercuts, @heytherenancydrew, @joons, @just-a-madrigal, and myself, plus layout and cover by @naancydrew
In terms of content, there's a little bit of everything! Recipes, meta analysis, podfic, embroidery art, a quiz, fanfic, and a puzzle. Everything is delightful and I'm so so so excited.
Feel free to message or leave a comment with any additional questions!

"oh hm i think this chapter might end up being really long based on what i have outlined" i said 12k words ago.
thanks everyone for reading! going to be cutting a bunch of stupid doodles i did with annotations under the cut
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
handful of doodles i did when i was still just conceptualizing this + hadnt figured out their designs + hadnt figured out how to draw people
Tumblr media
speaks for itself
Tumblr media Tumblr media
old doodles from a slightly different version of chapter 40 before i realized making terumob a pre established couple BEFORE this moment would make it stronger. they still kind of work but are slightly less funny than they were in the version where this was the moment teru confessed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
drew this shortly after finishing chapter 18, which i wrote WAY out of order from everything else. i think i started it around when i started chapter 5 and finished it around when i was working on chapter 10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
toichiro said npc + chapter 27
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the first time i saw this post i went "smtwo teru and takenaka" and at some point i just started referring to takenaka as "puzzlemaster". teru and takenakas dynamic was one of my favorite things to write because like. if you build your entire persona off building a false image of yourself youre not gonna be a big fan of someone who can immediately see past that
Tumblr media
saw this post and couldnt stop thinking of chapter 35
Tumblr media
ok now in the realm of "doodles that started as jokes in dms" me and @teruthecreator were talking about that video where jerma fucks up pancakes in nancy drew and the idea of teru giving toichiro an absolutely dogshit unreadable pancake recipe while hes at claw that he fucks up and burns the building down
Tumblr media
ok so this is the beginning of what came to be known as the "double date dimension" or "dinner date dimension". i shared a screencap of me adding the line about ritsu suggesting that he and shou have a double date with whoever asked mob out and the Knowers (a groupchat i started with two of my friends i made as mentally ill as me about this fic) went "this would be the most uncomfortable dinner ever can you imagine" and just kept expanding it until it sort of turned into a sitcom universe version of smtwo. dont be surprised if you see this fanfiction at some point in the future
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
more from the double date dimension where mob invites ritsu to a halloween party without telling him its a claw company halloween party. teru and mob go in matching costumes as the flying dead pig and the pigeon whos eyes the movie is told from (i snuck in a reference to this bc its too funny to me). takenaka goes as "book accurate frankenstein" because hes too lazy to make a costume. mob gets unbelievably wasted on jungle juice because no one told him the punch was spiked.
Tumblr media
another from the double date dimension where they host a white elephant and teru buys a really nice gift specifically for mob and tries to get mob to steal it but mob doesnt really understand the aim of the game and ends up with a boxset of the big bang theory (dubbed) and teru gets so overcome with despair he develops a fever and is unable to speak or move from his spot on the couch as mob puts on big bang theory for him (this is based on a true story)

Waffles for Esther
A solo journaling game by Pandion Games
Materials
game manual
a journal or other recording method
standard deck of cards, minus jokers
a set of polyhedral dice (or digital ones)
a coin
Tumblr media
Premise
As the waitress of a small-town diner, your mission is to make every customer who sits down for a drink and a meal as happy as can be while trying to balance familiarity and professionalism juuust right. Among the regulars is Esther, who always comes in at the same time each day to order the same items from the menu: a coffee (one sugar and a splash of milk), the diner’s signature waffles (with two sliced strawberries and apple jam syrup on the side) and some hashbrowns (with extra ketchup). However, as you turn to deliver Esther’s waffles, she has gone missing – and as the pinnacle of customer service, you cannot have that! Embark on a mission to solve the mystery of Esther’s disappearance and ensure that she gets her waffles, preferably in one piece.
Mechanics
Waffles for Esther is based on a set of randomized prompts working together to help tell you a story, aided by a simple but effective skill check system.
You begin by setting up the game, giving your character a name and a bit of a background. It is also recommended that you create a personal connection to the town by drawing a map of the provided locations (or make up your own to change it up). Each round begins with you choosing a location to investigate and rolling on a random complication you encounter there.  A skill check (Waitress and Detective, respectively a d12 and d10 at the beginning) determines your success – will you find a clue or will your inquiries into the mystery result in hilarious chaos? Clues are provided as a list of random items you draw from a standard deck of cards. The more clues you can gather during your hijinks, the better your chances of getting the conclusion right and solving the mystery, as the number of clues raises the value of the die you can roll in a final check at the end of your game.
While succeeding might seem easy at first, every time you fail a skill check reduces the value of the skill die you used – and you can only replenish your skills once! So, make sure to roll well…it’s for Esther, after all.
Tumblr media
Thoughts and Examples from my Playthrough
What makes this premise work so well is the figure of Esther, our mystery woman, an almost blank canvas except for her meticulous order, and the backdrop of a small town – the perfect recipe for a cozy mystery adventure! Combined with some hilarious, charming and outrageous prompts, a set of clues that fit well together no matter their combination and a skill check system that had me on (a comfortable) edge at all times, this is an enjoyable ride for a night in or a few relaxing minutes each day. Clearly, some inspiration has been taken from your well-known mystery shows and books, think Nancy Drew and Miss Marple, with an emphasis on a light-hearted tone. I appreciate that safety advice has been added nevertheless – it’s good to remind players that they’re in charge of their game, even if it veers off into an unintended direction.
I’m honestly a little awkward still in roping prompts together, but should they not add up in the end, you are free to leave out clues you cannot link to the mystery (albeit you’ll miss out on raising the die value further for your final check). Even so, some of my fails were much funnier than my successes – a game that makes failing something you almost look forward to truly celebrates hijinks the right way. Some of my favourite results were:
being run over by the ancient mailman and taking an unintended bath in the town lake,
almost hitting the president of the book club over the head and promptly being excluded from the same,
vomiting into an urn at the funeral home…one that was already filled with some poor man’s ashes, and
ending up in a LARP, where my arrival prompted the story to turn into a time travel adventure.
Tumblr media
The hints and hijinks system is, in my opinion, what makes this unique and entertaining. It’s not often that games find a way to utilize failed rolls in a way that makes sense for the premise of the game and gives the player more than a “whelp, that was nothing” to work with.
Although my Esther was a courageous woman who fought for the town’s well-being, your Esther might be a more nefarious one – who can say? The game leaves ample room for interpretation, handing you the tools to tell your own story without dumping all the hard work of finding ideas on you. Of course, the usual challenges of journaling games are present: ultimately, it depends on you how much fun you’ll have with the narrative. If you’re like me and have trouble coming up with connections, there’s always the option to play with someone else and bounce ideas off each other. Another fun variety might be to replace the default locations with some from your own town or simply make them more outrageous (an abandoned theme park, perhaps, or an animal shelter, a gay bar…).
Let’s not forget to mention the delicious little graphics included in the manual as well as the simple but effective layout. Can we appreciate the colour choices made? Everything serves the retro small-town vibe and I’m here for it. The versatility of the system has already spawned a game jam, which is always a good sign for if a system works or not. I think Pandion Games managed to make both a perfectly executed journaling game as well as an incredibly useful SRD and I hope to see and play more games in the same vein as Waffles for Esther for some time to come!
Tumblr media
This might be your cup of coffee if...
you like to read and/or watch cozy mysteries.
you are not afraid of being proven wrong – and can revel in the funny consequences!
you long for something more casual and light-hearted to brighten up your day.
you appreciate a game with lower stakes, where you won’t have to save the world for once (but…you could, if you wanted to).
you want something with almost zero prep- and maximum hijinks-time.
You can get Pandion Game’s Waffles for Esther HERE on itch.io! Make sure to check out The Jester King’s Dance as well, a darker game based on the same mechanics, and the still running game jam to create your own contribution in the same vein!

I've been playing through the entire collection of Nancy Drew PC p&c Mystery Adventure games, developed by HeR Interactive, on and off for the past few months. The subject of today's conversation is 2005's 'Nancy Drew: Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon,' the story of a supposedly haunted train ride to Copper Gorge and the multi-generational search for a missing mine hidden by the train's original owner. The train finally arrives at Copper Gorge, and the search for a descendent of the original conductor leads side character Frank Hardy to briefly work as a Short-Order Cook, flipping burgers for information. Which brings us to Order 120363, from table 14, served by Flo.
The Hayashi Burger.
A simple beef & bun affair, which includes avocado, tomato, cheese, and inexplicably mayo, pineapple, and fruit jelly (hereupon referred to as fruit jam as to not pander to 260,033,939 adult babies).
For this recipe I need:
an untoasted bun sliced horizontally,
a beef burger patty,
two slices of fresh avocado,
a slice of fresh beef tomato,
a slice of dubiously fresh grape jam (stolen from a motel in MA),
a slice of fresh pineapple,
a slice of fresh american plastic cheese,
and finally, a slice of fresh mayonaise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Please ignore the tin foil, it's just my reusable tin foil sheet collection.
With my accoutrement prepared and not needed to be cooked, the only thing we need to fry up is the beef.
Whilst that cooks, I'd like to take the opportunity to talk a little about my research into where a "Hayashi" burger actually comes from. The most coherrent definition of Hayashi I could find was the Japanese "Hayashi Beef" which is supposedly a derivative of the English "Hash" as in a beef hash. All recipes I found, however, use a demi-glace sauce containing onions, tomato and mushrooms to make more of a stew-style beef dish.
A YouTube recipe for "Burger Steak in Hayashi Sauce" appeared in my search results so I figured maybe watching would shine some light on this recipe. Perhaps it has been modernised to include Avocado, Fruit Jam, Pineapple, Cheese, and Mayo.
The video opens on a plate of pre-made pattys which are picked up by our protagonist, a person who wears their ring whilst handling raw meat (a level of dedication to a relationship I may never achieve). The pattys themselves clearly have chunks of diced onion incorporated into the meat; I would never claim to have the objective idea of the perfect burger, but as a bit of a burger snob myself I am adiment that pattys should be pure meat with salt and pepper, and that every other accoutrement be added after cooking. In the buns, not in the burger. Anyway, I'm critiquing the wrong things here. The burger pattys are fried and then set aside, and the residual beef grease is used to caramelise the onions and mushrooms...
Oh no, it's just onions and mushrooms again. My hopes for modernisation have been dashed once again. I was hoping the video's publishing date of October 2019 would be recent enough to overcome the sting of tradition.

Another option explored was the restaurant "Hayashi" located in Leamington Spa, coincidentally the same postcode area where I grew up. The Restaurant's connection to Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon (2005) is a longshot considering the restaurant opened coincidentally in July of 2019, the same year as our previous Hayashi Burger Steaks recipe, and also coincidentally their website's indentity certificate expired two days ago (two Hardy boys).

You know, all these coincidences are starting to add up. Perhaps something more sinister is at play here, some supernatural force calling me to this burger. I'm not one to claim "Demon" after a meager three coincidences, but I started to feel like completing this burger would summon a demon. I decided to cast a protection spell just incase.
For this recipe I need:
a candle,
a piece of dusty, antique jewlery,
an essential oil,
and a protective crystal.

For the purposes of this spell, watches count as jewlery.
They will watch over the following preceedings.

After that everything should be a-ok, but be on the look out for apocalyptic indications, maybe someone push the doomsday clock forward a couple of minutes.
After a bad luck streak on the general web I took myself to the HeR Interactive website to check the FAQs, figuring this question is probably asked all the time.
Nothing, huh. Well, if you get nothing from the creators the next best place is the fans. However, after perusing the various forum posts still I came up empty handed.
Tumblr media
So, I suppose we may never know the origin story of the Hayashi burger. Well, unless some intrepid explorer were to send some sort of email to HeR Interactive, politely requesting some background information on the development of Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon…
Couldn't be me.
Tumblr media
Our beef burgers ended up a little underercooked but we'll just say medium rare is part of the recipe. Our burger lays on the bottom of the bun, which usually I would be firmly against as the rising heat will wilt all of our accoutrement, but this time whatever Nancy wants, Nancy gets. The avocado is next which creates an unstable balancing platform for the rest of our heavy ingredients which will in time smush the avocado down. Next, our slice of tomato which becomes a surface on which to spread our grape jam. The viscosity of the jam comes in handy to secure the pineapple slice in place, which for absolutely no reason is the recipient of the unmelted cheese slice. Finally, perhaps the biggest crime, mayonaise. Now, I would consider myself a huge fan of mayoniase, a 'stan' even. When I refer to mayonaise in this recipe as "criminal" I am mostly hung up on the combination of creamy mayo with sweet jam and sour pineapple.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is complete.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As with all happy memories, this needs to be captured on an analogue medium. Today we're using the Polaroid OneStep Express in Silver, using Polaroid Colour 600 film.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#polaroidmoment #filmisnotdead
And, the moment of truth. It tastes…
Tumblr media
Horrendous.
It mostly just tastes of the pineapple which makes sense seems it's the most overpowering flavour in the whole burger. Damn you Australians. The grape jam adds about as much as a pinch of sugar would, which combined with the eggy, oily mayonnaise is a nightmarish pallet nauseator. The tomato and the avocado both bring nothing to the table, and need I even mention the unmelted cheese? Bleugh...
So, if you ever find yourself at a diner in the middle of the Colorado desert, do yourself a favour and just order the regular cheese burger. You may think you can trust the sweet waitress with the quaint name, but the short-order cook is completely new to this job and the burger might just have been thought up in a fever dream of jam sweats.

Recipe 121 - Cowabubble
"Cowabubble" is the eighth recipe I’ve made based on the ice cream/milkshake flavors at Scoop in Alibi in Ashes. If you’d like to see the other seven you can find them here, here, here, here, here, here and here.
I know this is definitely more of a summer recipe than a fall one, but it took me a long time to gather the obscure ingredients involved. I've actually never had bubble gum ice cream, so I was excited to give it a shot. I was so relieved when it turned out really well because I've had some flop experiences with homemade ice cream in the past. The texture and flavor were everything I'd hoped for and no ice cream maker was involved! This gives me hope for future ice cream recipes.

{Favorite Fall Candle and a Fond Memory}
Tumblr media
Program: They're favorite fall candle and a memory they look fondly back on when it's lit.
Counselors: Steve, Eddie, and Nancy
Genre: Fluff, Headcanon
Other Counselors | Camp Upside Down Masterlist
Steve -> Vanilla Cupcake
The Harrington household has never been warm since Steve could remember. So when the older friend group wanted to do an autumnal potluck and movie marathon during the approaching coldest day of the year, Steve just shrugged and told them to come over at 11am. He got the house set up with his mother's fall decorations and through the morning, he barely registered the pep in his step as the hour drew near. When everyone started to come in with their delicious smelling treats, drinks, and meals, Steve was buzzing. The house smelled sweet from all of Robin's baked goods and mouthes drooled over the brisket Billy brought over. Laughter and shouts of excitement warmed the house, and Steve casually offered to host twice a month for something like this and beamed when everyone agreed.

Eddie -> Red Apple Wreath
Approaching holidays never really sat well with Eddie since he would often find himself sitting back and watching all the friend groups or couples go off on cute, fun activities. Family going out to the orchards and patches to later spend the day in to make tasty treats and carve silly faces onto veggies. So on the one Saturday that he decided to block off and sleep in for once, Eddie is not happy when someone rips off his blankets to only get hit with a pile of clothes. He still hasn't processed what's going on by the time he and Uncle Wayne are driving 20 mins outside of town until his sleepy eyes catch a glimpse of a faded sign greeting them before turning onto a winding road leading to a small farm. Throughout out the day, he and Wayne munch on donuts and cider while picking different apples. Wayne casually shares with his boy that this was the farm his mum took the boys to and how he still remembers her pumpkin bread and apple pie recipe by heart. So the two of them that night try to make it, and though it comes out slightly saltier than Wayne remembers, it's a good start and even better feeling at the sight of Eddie smiling.

Nancy -> Apple & Sweet Fig
On a cold, raw gray day, Nancy curls up on the window seat in a fuzzy blanket with a chunky sweater on. The previous weekend, she and Robin had just gotten home from a week long trip to Chicago. Copies of photos and reels of undeveloped film pile around her while she carefully balances a scrapbook in her lap. She writes our the little stories and memories from each of the photos before adding small ticket stubs and receipts to the edge of the pages. Nancy can't wait to gift to Robin the next time they get breakfast at the diner. Her handwriting easily gives away her excitement as small annotations and jokes from the trip. When she finishes working on it for the day, she flips through it while sipping on her warm apple cider with a small smile on her face.

Okay so context first: The cast and writers did a panel (I think for S2) but since it was prerecorded online because of lockdown there weren’t any fan questions. So instead they decided the first half they would ask each other questions in character and then out of character plus writers for the second half.
Note: both of Ryan’s questions were to Ace, and I was half expecting “What are your intentions with my daughter?”
But Carson ended up mentioning something about the Drew’s having a secret family pancake recipe. (It might have actually been Kate’s grandmother’s, but I don’t think Scott knows Kate’s maiden name so he just said it was a Drew tradition.) And he said he would pass it to Nancy once she had hit a big milestone in her life, like when she gets her own apartment.
So in the fic, Dads and Ace are hanging out in the kitchen while Nancy is upstairs. Carson tells Ace the story of when the pancake recipe was passed down to him and how he used the famous pancakes to propose to Kate. The next week Ace brings Nancy breakfast in bed.
OKAY. So there is a LOT to unpack here....
1) Where is this panel, how did I not know it existed, and where can I watch it???
2) PANCAKES??? Idk if you know this about me but I am HIGHLY emotional about Nace and pancakes.
See also:
- Ryan making Nancy pancakes in memory loss fic and Ace making the comment that they taught Ryan how to make them
- Ryan coming over in Feline Hungry to make said pancakes for Beatrice (even though he’s still kind of bad at making them and he uses too much flour and burns them a little)
- Callback to all of this in Sandwich Night where Ace comments on how it was much easier to teach Ryan how to make grilled cheese than pancakes
So now you add to that the layer that they are in fact KATE’S PANCAKES and I’M— 😭
3) I just wrote an entire fic surrounding grilled cheese and making it the “Drew way” (butter on both sides of the bread, like Carson makes it for Bess in 2x09) so now I have a LOT of EMOTIONS about Nancy getting her grilled cheese recipe from Carson and her pancake recipe from Kate 🥺
4) All of this to say THIS SOUNDS AMAZING AND I LOVE IT AND I NEED IT
