Peridot looks dissapointed after finding out that there is no deep end at the Nallikari beach. The reason being that the waters around Oulu are not deep, and the area is actually slowly rising from the water. So, poor peridot will have to do with the shallow end.

19 Sept 2020 Nallikari beach during sunset. Truly an extraordinary experience.  One of my favourite memories there, is when we went to play volleyball. The weather was still nice and fairly warm, but still too cold for swimming. Altough, some of us tried and it was even freezing to watch them.

My other dear memory is when we spontaneously biked to the beach in the middle of the night, and watched the stairs. ✨

The snow arrived in Oulu at the end of November. The city turned white. Nallikari beach was also covered in snow and the water was starting to freeze. It still was not too safe to walk on the ice but it was getting more solid day by day. The whiteness of the snow made the long nights a bit brighter, so even though it was getting colder, i was happy it was there.

One of the more memorable experiences I had when the snow came, was going for a river sauna and jumping into an ice hole in the water. Before I came to Finland, I thought doing so was a bit extreme, but now I would do it all over again.

I arrived in Oulu on the 1st of September. It had been a warm summer and the weather was still nice when I got there.

It’s really easy to make friends on exchange. I made many new friends on my first night there. The next day we decided to go to the beach.

This is the Nallikari beach, about 10 minutes bike ride from the city center.
