The Greatest Pilot That Could Not Keep My Attention
I watched the Digital Circus pilot beginning on Monday, it took me watching bits of it throughout the week to just FINISH watching one viewing of it.
The animation? Stellar, stylistic and wonderfully designed.
The Voice Acting? Top notch, and you could tell the VAs had so much fun with their lines.
The Concept Plot and Writing? Intriguing, and the pilot set up a good story that leaves you wanting more, and with good jokes all around. The characters themselves are well rounded and have good dialogue and personality.
So when everything is at least and 8 or 9 out of 10, why could I not spend more than 2 minutes watching it at a time?
The Answer: The show doesn't give me ENOUGH of a reason to care.
The characters are lovable in their own ways, and you're meant to root for Pomni in wanting her to get out. And yet, The central theming of the show off the bat is... apathetic nihilism. That nothing matters and this thesis is only reinforced by the most "grounded," yet equally the most malignantly neutral characters so far: Jax.
Jax is the kind of person, and I say person instead of character, that is fully content with watching the world burn with a bag of popcorn in his hand. While everyone is suffering, Jax is lapping up a heaping fill of schaudenfreude, relishing in everyone's torment. Jax in this scenario, is as much the story's "villain" as Caide is. As a horror, this isn't necessarily a bad thing.
However, when you hammer in the idea in the audience's skull that it's pointless to try, you've already made the villain win from the get go, and so watching the villain KEEP winning is your narrative irony that you've made the audience subconsciously MIRROR Jax's sentiment:
"The story doesn't matter, as long as I get to see something funny."
So, instead of the self proclaimed psychological horror, What Digital Circus presents is a SOCIAL horror with comedic elements, and thus narratively remade Seinfeld: a show where nothing matters and shitty people, the audience included, get to make fun of other's suffering.
Apathetic Nihilism.
NOW, to its credit, The third act was the part of the pilot that DID keep my interest, but by the end of it reinforced the thesis even more, with a LITERAL SNAP of Kaide's fingers, the episodic conflict is deus-ex-machina'd away, the CENTRAL conflict is nebulously brushed under the rug, so the only thing left to hold onto the interest is the mystery of the show's symbolism and imagery to tease us, which, while a good thing to do, is not enough when your biggest message to the audience was already SHOVED down was that it's useless to try and figure everything out when none of it matters and you shouldn't care, which could be found insulting, but therein lies the rub:
The theming and thesis that this narrative has effectively told its audience is that it's childish and naive to care, and you should just sit down, shut up, laugh, and try not to go insane watching it.
There's writing to purposefully make your audience uncomfortable, there's writing to make your audience squeamish, there's writing that make your audience challenge their ideas and preconceived notions. There's writing to make your audience feel conflicting emotions
This is writing that purposefully makes your audience not care. It's written incredibly well, standing out and executed with shining applaud, but it's writing that makes your work mirror your thesis mirror your characters mirror your narrative mirror your audience mirror your writing mirror your message: It's meaningless and we're all Jax just along for the ride.
"Full of sound and fury... signifying nothing." - MacBeth

I’m a little rusty on doing sound stuff so forgive a couple of errors here and there but, otherwise hope you enjoy!

*One Piece.
+Jibaku No Shonen Hanako-kun.
*Dofus y Wakfu:Ambos son de la misma saga.

OPENING VA COMMISSIONS
So, here’s the thing. Adulting is hard enough without a global pandemic putting people’s health on the line and costing them precious job hours due to business shut-downs and recommended self-isolation. The fact that this is currently the reality we’re living in is sort of a slap in the face for someone like me who’s lucky if he rakes in 20 hours a week. With that being said, as long as I’m doing what I love in my spare time I may as well see if I can’t make an honest profit off it. As such, I’ll be taking a page out of the book of all the cool kids and opening voice acting commissions (with possible audio/video editing commissions in the near future)!
youtube
The basic rates are as follows:
$5 per unedited voice line
$7.50 per voice line with SFX/music
$20 per full audio minute of unedited voice work
$30 per full audio minute of voice work with SFX/music
  Character interpretations include:
Lewis Pepper (human/ghost*) from Mystery Skulls Animated
Alphonse* from Owlboy
Sans/Papyrus/Asgore/Flowey*/W.D. Gaster* from Undertale
Dave Strider/Equius Zahhak from Homestuck
Lavos/Gaspar from Chrono Trigger
(*Includes SFX work)
  Character impressions include:
Reaper* from Overwatch
Gollum/Sméagol from The Lord of the Rings
Emperor Doviculus* from Brütal Legend
Beerus from Dragon Ball Z/Super
Meatwad from Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Norbert from The Angry Beavers
(*Includes SFX work)
  Some basic ground rules:
Each commission will require a “script” of what you’d like said in the voice of your choosing
If you’d like SFX/music added, please include a basic description of what you have in mind
If you’d like me to perform as an OC of yours, I’ll require background info on said OC and a basic description of what sort of voice you have in mind for them
Extenuating circumstances pending, you can expect results within 1-3 business days
Payment will be handled through PayPal at this e-mail: [email protected]
No NSFW material
Outside of that, the sky’s the limit! If you’re at all interested, feel free to send me an e-mail and we can work from there! You can also support me on Patreon if you feel so inclined! https://www.patreon.com/cyberneticpinkeye
Thank you very much for your time (and possible patronage) and have a nice (and hopefully healthy) day!

The Hunter The Gods Have Sent
Male!Bloodhound x Fem!Reader
Rating: M(18+) Summary: For some, that battle cry invoked fear. For you, it was a blessing. Warnings: Graphic sexual content, blood and gore, canon typical violence. Reader is also a hunter, but not in the Apex Games. Word Count: 22154
- - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -
Your prey truly was beautiful. She stood on lean, nimble legs, powerful and agile, as was the rest of her muscular form. Her fur looked soft as the blades of grass beneath her hooves and was just as green. The antlers atop her head were thin and twirling, much like the branches in the trees above. Her tail, long, skinny and hairless, aside from the bushel on the end, was nonchalantly swooshing back and forth, expressing her comfort. She stood tall and proud, her eyes never resting as she continuously scanned the area around her.
She had not spotted you, however, where you hid cleverly on the hill nearby, crouched between foliage and boulders. You had been tracking her all morning, following footprints in the mud from the early morning dew, following where the grass parted from her hooves treading through, following indents in the trees where she paused to scratch at her antlers. The season wouldn’t be changing for awhile. Her antlers weren’t due to shed just yet. She was likely anxious, but you weren’t sure what it was that made her uneasy.
Bow in one hand, you carefully removed an arrow from the strap on your thigh and pulled it against the curved metal. The feathers tickled your cheek as you pulled the arrow back, tight and strong against the wire. The contraption was unfitting in the wilderness, but you knew how to hide it. The arrowhead was pointed directly at her, where it would pierce her heart and end her life in mere seconds. She would die before she felt the pain of the arrow or the blood oozing from her still beating organ.
The bow creaked quietly as you pulled the arrow back. It was taut, pulled tight, just like the muscles in your abdomen and arm, ready to fire as soon as your fingers gave away. But, then, you saw a smaller prey crawl out from the nearby foliage. It shook its entire body, starting from its head, all the way down to its little hooves, shaking loose leaves and twigs that got caught in its fur.
You relaxed your hold, letting the bow loosen and the arrow go limp in your grasp as you watched them. The youngling skipped over to its mother and ducked under her body to suckle at her tit. With how long and thick her fur had grown, you weren’t able to see the swollen bag, a clear sign that she was nursing. Still, you silently cursed yourself for not noticing and wasting so much time on her.
The grass shifted behind you, so quiet it could have been the wind; however, there were many dangerous carnivores out here and you weren’t taking chances. You spun around, drawing the arrow back in a split second so it was ready to fire at whoever dared approach you. What was crouched in front of you, leaving a few feet of distance, wasn’t an animal, but a human… maybe. They were wearing a mask with two large lenses over the eyes and a tube over the mouth that moved around to the back, likely to a filter.
You immediately recognized that mask, but didn’t immediately move to relax your arrow. You kept it drawn, pointed at their chest, this time, knowing it wouldn’t pierce that helmet. The stranger lifted their gloved hands and showed you their palms, fingers spread, an expression of compliance. “My apologizes,” they whispered, voice low, almost gentle, heavily accented, and oh so unforgettable.
Bloodhound, one of the Apex Legends, clad in their signature helmet, though otherwise under dressed. They were not wearing their usual attire, clad in camouflage print, baggy pants and a light brown poncho over a long sleeved, light green undershirt. Their boots were faded brown, heavy with a thick tread and a little intimidating. The belt around their hips was thick and a bit hidden under the poncho; but, you caught the glimpses of the weapons they were carrying.
You hesitated, not yet trusting of this stranger, yet not quite proud of keeping your arrow pointed at them for so long. “Your hunt vas impressive. Forgive me for overstepping boundaries,” Bloodhound spoke, like a distant whisper. You blinked at Bloodhound, wondering if that was the reason they followed you here. “I vas certain no one else hunted here,” they explained furthermore.
You lowered your arrow, but kept your grip on it firm. Somehow, you knew that Bloodhound understood your precautions. They made no motion for their weapons, but lowered their hands to the ground for balance. “I’m not from around here,” you explained. Bloodhound nodded in understanding. “I am Bloth Hundr. You can call me Bloodhound. May I ask for your name?” The way Bloth asked for your name came unexpected: a firm request, but a gentle one. You couldn’t see into the lenses of that helmet to steal a look at their eyes, or the tiniest glimpse of skin, for they were fully covered. Yet, you didn’t hesitate to reply.
- - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -
You already knew who Bloodhound was, sort of. You didn’t know who was under that helmet, how their face wrinkled when they smiled, or what name they were given by their parents. But, you knew what Bloodhound was: an Apex Legend, one of the best killers on the Frontier, a renowned hunter and infamous challenger. But, you didn’t make this obvious to Bloth, and was uncertain if they knew and simply didn’t acknowledge it, or was completely unaware.
Even though Bloth hadn’t seen you in the week that passed since your first meeting, you saw them again, on TV. Bloodhound had won the match that week, secured the win and even made a substantial amount of kills. Their banner was on display all over the internet, all over television. It was quite the match and quite the victory. It was to be expected of one of the best hunters on the frontier.
It didn’t stop you from returning to the same forest on the early hours of Saturday morning, with the hope of tracking a male this time. You managed to catch a large hoof pattern just as the sun rose and shined light through the trees. It was a little old, the impression in the muddy grass, but you were confident you could follow it. Sure enough, you wandered across more prints, broken branches where its antlers had gotten tangled, and even droppings.
A few hours passed like minutes as you focused on the task at hand. Eventually, you found yourself in a thick bundle of trees, peaking between the logs to see what was making noises on the other side. There he was, magnificently huge, muscular, with antlers that towered above his head like tree branches. His fur was thick and lush green, expressing how healthy he was. This late in the season, you knew he would have already mated several females and was prime for the hunt. You would feel no guilt in claiming his life.
You carefully unsheathed an arrow and pulled it along the bow before navigating slowly through the trees, crouched down low. You were dirty, with mud up to your thighs and streaks of green across your chest, back and arms from plants that you had rubbed against during your tracking. You blended in well where you lurked, carefully approaching a spot where you could get a clear shot.
Just as you pulled your arrow back so the bow was taut, as firm as it possibly could go, you set your foot on a soft spot where the dirt had become muddy from rainfall. Your heel slid barely an inch, but made the most faintest of sounds as it did so. The shifting mud alerted the deer. His ears perked up and he rose, immediately jolting from where he stood and taking off in a gallop into the woods.
You groaned, letting your weight fall against the tree nearby, slouching against it. You loosened your hold on the arrow, leaning against the tree with a heavy sigh. Your skull thunked against the tree, though you were too irritated and disappointed to feel how badly it hurt. You could almost hear the distant sound of your father’s laughter that always came before words of wisdom. But, he wasn’t here. However, a voice did follow, and it startled you.
“Vas a good try,” a familiar voice spoke. You stood up straight and spun around to locate the voice. A familiar form stepped out of the brush, revealing themselves. You smiled a bit bitterly at that mask. “Sure,” you replied sarcastically, turning away from Bloodhound. “Did you follow me out here to mock me?” the words were not spoken with much venom, but they were still rude, falling from your lips before you could stop yourself.
“Vas not mocking,” Bloth stated firmly, walking around to stand by you. “Your skills are admirable; but, you place too little faith in nature.” You turned slightly towards Bloodhound, whose large goggles were focused on you. The metal charms that dangled around their helmet blew gently in the breeze, making no sound, oddly. It left you to wonder what the purpose was for those. In fact, you often wondered why the mask at all, whether the mysterious stranger needed it or wanted it. But, you would never dare ask something so private.
You shook your head slightly, disagreeing with their statement. “Nature doesn’t want me to catch it,” you replied, scoffing a bit. Bloodhound seemed intrigued by your statement, an emotion that was not given away by the expression you couldn’t see, but the subtle way in which their stance changed. “To hunt and be hunted is nature. It wants you to earn the kill.”
For a moment, Bloth stood and stared at you, tilting their head ever so slightly, as if to judge your reaction. You lowered your brow slightly, an expression of consideration. But, the mysterious Bloodhound didn’t want to hear a response from you before carrying on and disappearing into the woods, leaving you alone to continue your hunt.
At that point, you were hungry and tired, frustrated with your circumstances and misfortune. Once again, you went home without a kill. As strange as it might have been, a part of you hoped Bloodhound would be there again, next time, like a raven’s watchful eye.
- - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - -
For the civilized and wealthy, hunting could be viewed as barbaric and unnecessary, or maybe a sport to bring home a valiant piece to mount on the wall. But, for some, like you, it was a necessity. You hunted because you were raised to do so. Your kill would provide food and valuable resources the world might have long forgotten, but still desperately needed.
There were people who would spend their gold on a fresh kill. A buck’s precious meat could feed you for weeks when properly preserved, and his antlers and hide would sell handsomely. Some of his organs were delicious and others were deadly, an ingredient for snake repellent, maybe. His bones could be ground up for the compost soil.
For some, like you, that was survival. It was the very reason why you were out here tonight, hunting in the pouring rain, in a forest you had not yet familiarized yourself with, on a planet very distant from your homeland, all alone. The dark clouds had completely swallowed the moon, making it dark and dreary. While the rain wasn’t particularly heavy, it had been going on for hours, leaving the forest, and you, sopping wet.
All you had to guide you was your senses and a pair of night vision goggles. They were heavy on your face, a bit fogged up from the cold, and not particularly good ones at that. But, it ensured you had a sense of where you were going and didn’t run face first into a tree. There was a compass on the HUD, which was essential, ensuring you weren’t running in circles.
Early in your hunt, you had caught sight of an old buck. He had likely survived many summers. He was a survivor who had lived a long and prosperous life in these woods; you were content with taking his life, assuming you could catch him, that is. His hooves were more equipped for this weather than your boots. His fur was thick and well insulated, unlike your cargo pants. Your jacket was holding up decently, for the most part.
You followed his trail and caught him standing still for a second too long. You reached to your back to pull out your bow. Just as you stepped forward, your foot caught nothing but air. In your advance, you failed to realize you were stepping over a steep hill into a ditch. You tried to catch yourself, but failed, and slid right into the mud.
You slid along your heels and then onto your behind, completely soaking yourself in mud from the waist down. For a second, you laid there in the ditch, in disbelief of your misfortune. Clearly, these woods did not want you hunting in them. It was a sign from an almighty force of nature, perhaps. Or maybe the forest was haunted by a mighty deer who ensured you were never successful.
“Fuck,” you deadpanned, reaching up to rip the night vision goggles off your face. Some water droplets had gotten through the rubber seal and was clinging to your eyelashes. You dragged the back of a gloved hand across your eyes, trying to wipe away the droplets. It was nearly impossible to make out anything in the darkness, but you could make out the faint outline of the trees above.
“It is nice to see you again.” You didn’t even flinch this time. The voice was coming from above, not very far behind you. You could almost feel Bloodhound’s goggles staring into the back of your head, like two, big, watchful eyes. “I highly doubt that,” you replied, somewhat joking and somewhat bitter. They must have thought you incredibly pathetic, wallowing in the mud and getting rained on. But, if did make you wonder why Bloth was out here.
“You are persistent and strong villed,” Bloodhound continued, their tone sounding almost endearing. Their accent was heavy, as always, distorted from beneath their mask, and strangely had you itching to hear more; but, you pushed those thoughts as far back as you possibly could. “I’m pleased to see you did not give up,” they finished. You slipped the night vision goggles back on and stood up, looking around for a way to get out of the trench. You caught sight of Bloodhound’s helmet and froze up, as if hypnotized by the sight.
Bloth truly looked terrifying through the lenses of your goggles. The round eyes on the mask were beaming, staring at you and unblinking like a ghostly apparition. There was a yellow stripe down the center along the top of the head piece; the paint gave off a strange glow in the eyes of your night vision goggles, like the stripe along the back of a venomous snake.
But, then, Bloodhound crouched down slightly and extended an arm, palm open and offering. It caught you off guard, a friendly gesture that almost didn’t match the heavy head piece and all-seeing eyes. Bloodhound’s helmet was the face of a deadly predator and skilled hunter, after all. Then again… perhaps, you were just tired and not thinking straight. You were standing in a ditch like an idiot and Bloth was simply trying to help.
You took their hand with a little hesitation and Bloodhound tugged you up so you could lift a foot onto the edge of the trench and hoist yourself the rest of the way. When the soft mud began to give way and collapse, Bloodhound pulled you almost violently to ensure you wouldn’t fall back into the trench. Bloth’s strong jerk practically hoisted you the entire way out of the hole. You gasped, but followed through with your legs, perhaps a bit too much.
Your body collided with Bloth, chest to chest, abdomen to abdomen. They let out a quiet grunt, a sound that was almost animalistic as it came out from that mask. Your chests were pressed together for the slightest second and you likely would have smacked into their helmet had you not maintained the slightest bit of control. Immediately, you jolted away from them. “Sorry!” you squeaked, sheepishly looking away. But, you could still feel those goggles staring you down. Bloth didn’t move away from you or seem at all discomforted by the situation. “Thank you for that,” you added on quickly.
“No need,” Bloodhound replied, simply. A bit embarrassed, you decided to cut this meeting short, despite the desire to do the opposite. You were split in two, between wanting to leave and wanting to acquaint yourself further with the mysterious hunter. You wanted to hear more of that voice, always sounding so distant, even when they were standing right beside you. “I should-” you began, cut off when the wind blew a sudden and powerful gust that threatened to knock you over.
You were feeling a little lightheaded and, under normal circumstances, would not have been perturbed by the wind. Yet, the storm, while not particularly intense, had picked up slightly. The rain was falling a little harder and the winds began to pick up, making the tree branches tremble and leaves rattle. You were only faintly aware of how wet your clothes had become. You locked your jaw tightly out of fear your teeth would began to chatter. However, despite being aware of that, you were oblivious to the fact that you were trembling slightly.
“Felagi,” Bloth called out calmly and a bit firmly. Even though you had no idea what that meant, you knew they were trying to get your attention. When you looked up, through your goggles, you could see the rain droplets falling onto Bloodhound’s mask and catching like crystals on the lenses over their eyes. “Please, I worry for your health,” Bloodhound began. “Ve should take skjól - ah, shelter - from the rain.”
“B-Bloth, I-” you began, mentally cursing yourself for the stutter. But, you also paused as a realization washed over you. You were a stranger to this person, curious of them, yet always hesitant to get close. It was the first time you had actually addressed them by a name, and it was the name that Bloodhound had used when introducing themselves to you. Perhaps, it was your imagination; but, you thought you saw their head tilt ever so slightly at the sound of their name on your lips.
“I don’t want to burden you,” you finished, almost like you were out of breath. The slightly distorted voice of Bloodhound cut through the sounds of the trembling forest. “You are not,” came that heavy accent, low like they were making a special request. “I vish you to humble me this once.” You blinked slowly, staring at Bloodhound almost in disbelief. You… humble them…? How absurd… and a not single cell in your body could possibly say no.

For all the new things, I kinda wished they showed all of this before SwSh was released, now it's a bit more pricey and I feel like it's kinda rushed. Also for the Mystery Dungeon, I'm excited for that bit I really hope that include all the starters and non starters as well in the final.
I wish they went ahead and pushed back SaS so it’d be released 2020, with this expansion back already included, and the new places we go to can be unlocked during our adventure or as postgame. I would’ve fine waiting and would’ve preferred it, especially to give them a chance to do more with the main story which is pretty weak and made little sense, and Rose was a very forced in villain. Also made no sense in the story climax. Watching playthroughs and seeing the climax of SaS I’m just...
Tumblr media
Its also frustrating that you get to hear about things happening and not actually witness or help. Like, its nice having adults acknowledge that you’re a kid, don’t worry about it we’ll handle it, but at the same time, that’s a chunk of story we have a right to see, and we’re kids in this game, we don’t always do what adults say we should follow and see what’s going on. That could’ve been something optional. Go to event to see what’s happening or skip it to go to the next gym.
And this is turning into a rant so I’m going to put this below. For those that just want to read my comments on Mystery Dungeon, scroll down till you get to the Pikachu gif, I’ll talk about it below.
Also there could’ve been improvements with the rivals. Marnie is suuuuper intriguing and I love her, Bede I also like though that’s more me missing mean rivals and man, he’s a brat and I say that with affection. But in the grand scheme of things, they felt pointless. More could’ve been done to include them. And Hop. God, Hop. I know people like him, but from what I’ve seen, he seems like the most annoying “friend rival” made to date. He does not know what personal space is. He waits for you in front of gyms. He waits for you on new routes. He has to comment on almost every move you make in your fights with him.
I don’t even own the games but just from the playthroughs I’ve watched I’m just... go away. Leave the lead alone. Everywhere you turn, he’s there, waiting for you. It also feels like he only got endorsed because he’s Leon’s younger brother. There’s nothing about him that I like. And, I don’t know why he gets the other wolf legendary? What makes him worthy? What makes him want to be a Professor in the future? That’s out of nowhere.
Something more could’ve been done with Hop, maybe an arc of him resenting you a little because every match you beat him, and he’s the Champion’s younger brother and you just seem to stay ahead. Maybe let us have more scene of him talking with Sonia since he’s going to be her future assistant. If he’s going to be constantly stalking us and waiting for us, then yeah, let’s at least better build up where his character will go.
Then there’s the issue of pokemon. With it pretty much confirmed they just reused models from gen 7, yeah, there’s no reason to not include more pokemon. If not the National Dex, which wouldn’t bother me too much, then go ahead and add about half. At most, I’d love pokemon included that would make the most sense. Like, lion is a big symbol throughout all of Europe. There should be a lion in Galar, either Litleo or Shinx returning if not a new lion pokemon. And with the expansion packs, yeah, they’re already adding 200 each pack.
And a lot of this dlc should already be in the game. If 400 pokemon are going to be added in, they should already be there. The new Giga forms should already be there and we should’ve seen the Giga Venusaur and Blastoise the same time as Charizard.
I’m also salty that there’s no going to Kalos. Maybe it’ll be a future expansion, and that’s a dlc I wouldn’t mind, but those are two very linked countries they’re based on. And Galar truly isn’t a big region. The Wild Area isn’t as big as it could be. Like, it doesn’t have to be BotW big, but it could’ve been bigger than what we got. And if not expanding the Wild Area, we could’ve had Kalos as a new region to go to, and more gyms for us to do.
ALSO.
I am not a fan of you refacing the gyms and having them act as your “Elite Four”.
They’ve already been fought. Aside from the first two, you’ve already fought all the star Giga forms they have. Its a really lazy decision. At least, you can have the two first gym leaders come in since you didn’t fight their star Giga forms, and include the other two version exclusive gym leaders as the other two. Just for some freshness in this final challenge.
I know they’re not big on voice acting, but, they should’ve put some form of VA into these games. Its a little awkward to get animated cutscenes and there’s no voices coming forth. And its at its worst when you get to Piers and you see him singing away, I presume loudly, into his mic and its just awkward cause there’s no voice and you can hear him tapping his foot to the music and its just so off putting to watch cause something is missing: a voice! And you know what’s the kicker? Pokemon has included voice acting before.
undefined
youtube
There is no reason to not do something similar, at least for Piers’ intro so its not so awkward to watch.
And then post game... the official post game... I, I honestly can’t say what is even going on? Those two blonde bimbos, those designs, who agreed to pass them? For sword guy, I don’t know whether I should be laughing or uncomfortable. Its like, an in between especially when his hair flops around. Also, their reasoning, they’re causing chaos in Galar because they didn’t like a book Sonia wrote???
The villains in these games are just so dumb.
Like, Rose had a good motive but, he is still forced in. And he activates the climax for no reason. He was promised by Leon that he would help with Eternatus, all he had to do was wait through one match. One match that would’ve been 30 minutes at most, roughly. Yet he couldn’t wait for one match and went ahead and woke up Eternatus, does a video asking for help, and when you arrive, stops you for a battle that doesn’t make sense to have cause he asked for help why is he holding you up with a battle??
And Team Yell. Supposed to be like, a 2nd Team Skull and these guys could dream to live up to Team Skull. They can’t. They’re not funny or enjoyable at all. And my friend brought up a good point on the issue of having Team Yell based on punks when they’re supposed to be the “villainous” team. Punks, historically, were rebelling against an unfair system, they were progressive and revolutionary. They stood up for LBGT rights, they stood for having individual freedom, and just wanted to break the restrictions society wanted to place on people, let people express themselves and be who they want to be.
If you want Team Yell to be a 2nd Skull and play around with punks as their theme, then they should’ve been set up to be red herrings as well. Be wary at first and then later find that they have hearts of gold, and mean well, even if they can be a tad extreme sometimes. And maybe they can help build up the danger of Rose, who in turn wants to paint them in with a bad image since they’re going against him and what’s normal in society.
Anyway... Sword and Shield honestly should’ve been pushed back. They should’ve been saved for 2020, or even 2021, or however how much time they need. I would’ve been fine waiting. A lot of fans would be. But what we got wasn’t worth the $60 it was being sold at, and definitely not worth the $90 its being sold at with the expansion packs, and as far as I know, these are very, very small areas to explore. Cause as we’ve seen with SaS, they built it up to be big and grand and, well, the Wild Area was smaller than expected and the whole was far shorter than expected. You could beat it in 20 hours roughly.
I even have mixed feelings on there being no enhanced version, cause these games do have potential, they just needed more time and polish, and then it could’ve worth the $60 price. But also thankful that there’s not another 2nd version and we may be getting a few expansion packs instead.
Though I do think a lot they’re bringing in should already be in the game.
Anyway, enough ranting about Sas, onto Mystery Dungeon!
Tumblr media
Demo I think could’ve been a little longer, they stop you before you go on the Skarmory mission, I think it could’ve been a better placement to end after the Skarmory mission.
Anyway, I like the changes so far. I love you can choose a different pokemon if you don’t like what you got from the test. I love that you have an updated move pool, though I feel kinda OP but you also kinda need it for these games cause I remember them being so hard and as a starter that can’t evolve till like, post game, yeah you’re going to need that help. I love that you get to wear a little scarf. Design wise, a little weird at first but it grew on me. Kinda reminds me of Okami.
By trailer, for sure they’re adding more pokemon in. Lucario is seen in the team, when before, you only saw Lucario as a statue in Red Blue, I believe? Its been a long time. But they only had Gen 1-3 in RB, and Lucario is there so I would think they’d add in a lot more pokemon.
For starters, I’m hopeful that beating the game, if you replay, you’ll get more options for the starters to play as and have as your partner. I’d loooove to have a chance to play as Popplio. Mega Evolution is confirmed, I wonder if regional forms would also be playable, like if we could evolve into Alolan Marowak or be one of the other two regional Meowths. Otherwise, everyone you could be in the old game is there, with no gender restriction! You can be a female Cubone! A male Eevee! A female Cyndaquil! I’m so happy about that since as a kid, I wanted to play Cyndaquil but never got it in the test and had to look it up and was bummed that it was male only and I wanted to be a girl.
My biggest hope though is that with this, we’ll have a chance to play two player, since you have a team of two usually, and your friend or sibling or SO can play your partner.
I am pleasantly surprised with it so far, though I will be holding off when its released in a few months, just going to listen to all reviews once they beat the game and if its very positive, cause SaS had a strong start and then went down hill with Gamefreak rushing it and cutting corners. I’m hopeful for this remake but cautious still.

WILD ARMS 2 - Telepath Tower
This is a really neat set piece.  It’s basically just a radio tower, but we’re told that it functions on a mineral called Empathite, which transmits thoughts and feelings via vibrations that resonate via the crystal.  The terrorist group we’ll spend all of disc 1 fighting hijacks this tower in order to transmit a declaration of war to the entire planet.  In the ensuing cinematic we even get to see glimpses of all the towns we haven’t been to yet as the message is projected onto every reflective surface within range: crystals, mirrors, windows, and even water.  It’s just a really cool fantasy magitek kind of detail, as well as a really potent means of making such a dramatic statement when the intended audience can’t turn their receiver off or tune out.  It’s not strictly speaking the first time we’ve seen some of these villains as they’ve been looming in the background of a few other missions so far, but as a formal introduction it just leaves a really solid “first” impression.
Anyhow, in the dungeon we run into another set of 3 new monsters: The Critter, the Dakleit, and the RatMonkey.
Tumblr media
Critters are mischievous looking little metal balls on metal ribbon springs, evoking a kind of clockwork vibe.  The term is derived from Creature, which in an archaic biblical minded sense referred to animals as created by god, but now refers generally to animals.  But in the original terminology it described a thing created, which sans the creation of life implies something inanimate.  Here they fit quite nicely with the inner workings of the intricate tower mechanism.
Tumblr media
The Dakleit is a very awkward romanization of (da-ku-ra-i-to) which I assume was meant to read as either DarkLight, or possibly as Darklyte, as a portmanteau of Dark and Acolyte.  I suggest the term acolyte because the Dakleit’s cast a number of different spells, as well as a few that elude to the secondary level of spells that get unlocked much later.  Curiously when we do get around to unlocking to those secondary spells, they are supposedly a new invention of a reclusive sorcerer, so how they came into the repertoire of the enemies here is a mystery.
Visually they appear vaguely inspired by the Cenobites of Clive Barker’s Hellraiser, (although oddly the Cenobites that most closely resemble it (Bound) are from movies that came out after Wild Arms 2) with the long black leather frock and bald head.  It’s not been apparent just yet, but the Wild Arms 2 monster line up does take frequent inspiration from the western horror film scene.
Tumblr media
Speaking of which, we also have the Ratmonkey!  Taken from the Sumatran Rat-monkeys in Peter Jackson’s 1992 cult classic horror film, BrainDead/Dead Alive, which carried the film’s central Rage Plague into England.  The Rat-monkey is native to Skull Island, referencing the origin of King Kong; it is also a reference to the Sherlock Holmes story The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire, in which a “Giant rat of Sumatra” is mentioned but not elaborated upon.  Amusingly when Jackson later got the chance to direct the 2005 remake of King Kong, he included a reference to the Rat-monkey, tying his older film officially into the broader continuity of King Kong.
I have no idea what the Ratmonkeys are doing in this magic radio tower though...
Tumblr media
and finally we have Vagesta, written ヴァジェスタ(va-je-su-ta) which would actually indicate that it’s supposed to be Vajesta, or possibly Vajester.  It doesn’t appear to be a direct reference to anything name-wise, but there are some suggestions to be taken from its general appearance.  The rainbow orbs are likely just attempts to create some impression of refracted light, referencing its relation to the Empathite crystal central to this dungeon.  But the tentacle head and humanoid body are reminiscent of Nyarlathotep, of Lovecraftian lore.
Nyarlathotep is described by Lovecraft himself as being a tall and thin man, but still in distinctly human guise.  His other forms are alluded to as madness inducing, but not seen in Lovecraft’s own original work.  In general lore Nyarlathotep functions uniquely among old gods as he is waking, present, and very much active on Earth.  He functions as a messenger of the gods, not dissimilar to Mercury/Hermes in Greco-Roman mythos, which might be the relation here with the Telepath Tower as a communication device.
Tumblr media
But with all these European horror film references in this dungeon, I also can’t help but think of the monster in the 1981 French-German horror film, Posession.
So we’re back at a dungeon where I can theorize a little on some of these creative choices and their relation to the dungeon as a whole.  I like to think that the Critters are actually just byproducts of the tower’s mechanism, working parts brought to life by the resonant energy of the crystals at work; thoughts, feelings and raw life energy from countless communications seeped into the machinery itself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If we read the Dakleit as Cenobite inspired, it places them as beings driven by feeling and inflicting pain, which aligns neatly with the theme of empathy present in the dungeon’s core conceit.  The Cenobites are also summon via a kind of mechanism, most iconic among them, the Lament Configuration, which very likely served as a basis for the Millennium Puzzle aesthetic.
Similarly Nyarlathotep is among Lovecraftian gods one less preoccupied with death than with madness, preferring inflicting feelings and experiences over ending lives.  Move over, Lovecraft also describes,
Nyarlathotep was a kind of itinerant showman or lecturer who held forth in public halls and aroused widespread fear and discussion with his exhibitions. These exhibitions consisted of two parts—first, a horrible—possibly prophetic—cinema reel; and later some extraordinary experiments with scientific and electrical apparatus.
A characterization that has lead many to believe the character was in some way based on the scientific exhibitions of Lovecraft’s contemporary, Nikola Tesla.  But this affinity for mysterious or wondrous devices appropriately ties to the Telepath Tower, of which Vagesta is the apparent sentry of.  It makes for a fairly cohesive theme of machinery and feeling.
If I had to really go out on a limb to hazard a guess, there is the short story The Rats in the Walls, in which the narrator describes the familiar maddening sound of rats leading him down to secret catacombs of his ancient family home thus,
It was the eldritch scurrying of those fiend-born rats, always questing for new horrors, and determined to lead me on even unto those grinning caverns of earth’s centre where Nyarlathotep, the mad faceless god, howls blindly to the piping of two amorphous idiot flute-players.
So, in some elaborate game of association the Ratmonkeys might be argued in the tower as an allusion to Vagesta’s Lovecraftian inspirations, but given that Vagesta isn’t even named such that Lovecraft can be directly referenced (only inferred from the visual elements) I find that a hell of a stretch.
Speaking of madness, I've gotten way further down the rabbit hole with this theory than I bargained for. In general this game is actually proving way meatier than I was expecting. I'd say I'll try to keep these a little briefer and more readable moving forward... but I totally won't...

Wow...
I’m...really astonished about a number of things here.
First off, Vivi has been my longest muse to date. I had two other characters I wrote and played as when I first started out, but they didn’t last very long. Vivi though?
She’s been with me for almost 4 years.
4 years!!!
I honestly thought after the hype of Freaking Out back in 2016, it would be the end of Vivi. I know I was in a small rut writing wise, my Vivi muse wasn’t working for a number of months afterwards but...I kept pursuing her. I took a break to deal with life things, then by the time I got into Bendy and the Ink Machine I got...a SUDDEN SPIKE in my Vivi muse and I’ve been riding that wave since!
The two of us have been through...a lot...since Ghost first came out. There’s some bad times mixed in with a lot of good memories of being on this blog but that’s what it’s like running a blog on Tungle.com. I feel like both Vivi and I grew up a lot over these years. I was still in college when I even heard about Mystery Skulls, but as soon as I saw the animated video it started a great journey for me. One I’m still walking down to this day.
I’ve gained a number of friends through this blog, I have improved significantly on my writing, and Vivi’s helped me break out to start voice acting/singing online too.
Maybe that’s why I don’t have the heart to give up on her or take up any other muse. The way I portray her is the kind of person I wish to live by. She’s helped me grow and I helped her realize more of herself; both of us did a lot of good for the other.
But enough of the sap! I want to give some shoutouts to some of the friends I’ve come to know because of the this blog.
The Meme Family:
@feather-dancer @marshyoftheblobs @darckcarnival , @splatterlewis @spctr
The meme team has been through so much together. We grew acquainted with each other by bonding over the love of the first MSA video. There have been many ups and downs, lots of scares and lots of bad times, but so many good memories came by the friendships we established. Although we’ve steered to different interests, we never have stopped talking and causing all kinds of shenanigans. It’s a true blessing to be friends with such a good group of people. We’re quite the dysfunctional, meme family but I wouldn’t have it any other way with you guys!!!
To all the friends in the MSA Servers:
It’s so incredibly awesome to have a group of individuals who love these animated music videos, these characters, and this whole story just as much as I do. I know there’s quite a number of you in multiple servers I’ve known since the beginning of this blog, and I’m so happy we still get to chat every now and then.
This is to all the writers, the artists, and the VAs I’ve grown to know over the years. Some I may not to speak to much like I do others, but I will always welcome you and greet you with the biggest of smiles. You guys really made my experience in this fandom worth everything!
@arthurtristankingsmen, @chantillyxlacey, @like-clockwork-lew, @spectrum-skull, @morsprocella, @spook-wolf, @tragicquartet, @transientday, @ray-kaladis, @bluebiesartblog, @starcre8tor, @thepurpah, @pmseymourva, @amtrax, @chisanaai, @wysterradi, @atomi-cat, @dryeguy, @chaotictechnocracy
To all the friends and RPers in the BATIM fandom/servers:
It’s such a freaking blast and quite the honor for my girl to be accepted so naturally into a great, inky world. I fell in love with BATIM when I first heard “Build Our Machine” and I would never escape from Joey Drew Studios. Eventually I wanted to try inserting Vivi into the cartoonish world, and it’s been an awesome ride with all I’ve written!!
Thank you to all the amazing people and writing partners I befriended because of the silly antics, heart-wrenching angst, and adorable fluff!!
@projectioniist, @inkmachine, @problematicprojectionist, @broken-projectionist @inkwise, @instrumentsofcyanide, @licoriceblackaliceangel, @devildrling, @selbstsxchtig, @im-alice-an-gel, @paimania/ @nctherchpter, @papabendy
To all the friends in the Phone Zone:
I did NOT expect to be assimilated so fast into a server surrounded by a freaking AI phone from Splatoon 2. However despite me being a bit intimidated and quite nervous coming in without even having a phone muse or any muse from Splatoon, you guys just accepted me as is and this blue girl too.
It’s been an absolute BLAST writing, drawing, and talking all kinds of shenanigans between all the muses. Whether it’s fluff or slice of life stuff, or A HELLUVA LOT OF ANGST it’s so AWESOME getting to write with all you guys!!
@commandertart, @telephobos, @pacifistic-ai, @commander--denwa, @anarchyphone, @commander-tatum/ @kat-soup, @cdr-tartar
I know I’m forgetting more, but...honestly to all I RP with and to everyone I chat with, whether on a daily basis or every now and then, I want to thank you for making this experience on this little RP blog so much fun!! Cheerio and let’s continue with many more adventures!!

all of them for mitali (and adora, if you're feeling ambitious owo)
okay this was a lot but i am NOT weak and answered them all for BOTH
Mitali:
1. Age, Birthday, Star Sign
She’s almost 33, born April 20th, 2005. She’s a Taurus.
2. Gender Identity
Cis woman!
3. Orientation and Relationship status (single, taken (by who?), crush (on who?))
Lesbian, eventually taken by another OC, Savannah Wright
4. Race and Ethnicity
Mixed; Scottish and Indian.
5. Height and Body type
5’7, fit af
6. Headcanon VA
Haven’t terribly considered anyone but…… Claudia Black, with like, a scottish accent, would be Good
7. Occupation
Captain of Security
8. Weapon of Choice(?)
Bow and shotgun, for more “distance”. But fuck she loves her knifes.
9. Hometown and current residence
Bo’ness, Scotland. Prosperity.
10. Do they have any markings, piercings or scars?
Probably has her fair share of scars (newest one being from that gd crocodile). No piercings to speak of. A tattoo on her back that’s a dahlia and a transvaal daisy. They were each of her mother’s favourites.
11. Do they have any notable features, like horns, tails, or so on?
Not really, ha. Maybe her hair? It’s really long.
12. Own any pets?
A dog and a pig! She loves both Timber and Horatio.
13. Have any kids?
She wants to.
14. Can they cook? Can they bake?
She can cook pretty well but she usually doesn’t have the time. Baking, she hasn’t really been able to try. Not in a long time, at least.
15. Can they sing? Can they dance?
She can sing! Pretty well too! One of her moms was heavy into music and taught her a couple instruments. During their time in the bunker, she was taught a whole lot of songs on guitar. Might know a few dances.
16. Can they drive?
Yup! Best driver in the business ha
17 Can they fight?
That’s her main talent ngl
18. Have any special keepsakes?
She’s got her mother’s wedding rings tucked away. She never lets them away from her.
19. Hobbies
Nothing actually firm. She likes to read and there are times she likes to play music, but it can be sort of bittersweet for her. Hunting maybe, but that’s another survival thing.
20. Clothing/Aesthetic
She likes button-ups and to layer a bit. Enjoys soft blues and deep reds.
21. Fave food(s) and drink(s)
She misses salt and vinegar chips so much. Pretty partial to cider-- not the alcoholic kind-- but it’s harder to get.
22. Fave Color
Purple
23. Fave Genre
Romance lol
24. Fave Season
Fall!
25. City or Country?
Country
26. Guilty Pleasure
Tbh??? Finding someone to fight just to get some anger out.
27. What’s their family like? Who’s in it? What’s their relationship with them?
She had two mothers until she was around 16. After they passed, family wise she was alone for a very long time. Now, the Ryes treat her as family and, at some point, Savannah would be her wife. She’s close with Kim and she’d never let anything happen to Carmina. She’s fast friends with Nick when they get him back-- she’s always glad to see a good man who has no issue being soft or saying “i love you”
28. Are they literate? Did they go to school? How long? What level?
She went to school up until shortly before the bombs fell, and her mothers did their best to teach what they could in the bunker.
29. What was childhood like?
The first 12 or so years were in Scotland. She was pretty healthy and well balanced. She enjoyed music, knew some instruments and got voice lessons. She was pretty athletic too, planning to do something military-centric when she was old enough. She and her mothers moved to the west coast of the states when she was twelve. It was maybe a year before the bombs fell.
30. What was adolescence like?
The first couple years were in the “bunker”, which was barely more than a multi-roomed basement shared between her and her mothers-- their neighbor, who’d offered them the shelter, didn’t make it in. He hadn’t been home when the bombs fell. The food ran out maybe two years in and she got to spend a year with her parents above ground before they were killed. The rest of her adolescence was spent mostly alone, living in a small shelter in the woods. She rarely had contact with people, only ever to trade. Once or twice she’d lead people out of the woods. It wasn’t until she was nineteen or so that she joined Rush.
31. What’s their current main conflict?
Loooooooooooots of self-hatred. Sure, there’s the whole highwaymen deal, but her hatred of herself makes it hard for her to make friends because she honestly doesn’t believe she deserves to have them.
32. What steps have they taken to overcome this conflict?
She doesn’t, really, until after that whole deal with Joseph and the apple and the bear. She of the mind it was just a drug trip, but it did make her think about who she is. Made her afraid she really had become something monstrous. After a breakdown and some help from Savannah, she actively tries to be a better, warmer person.
33. How have they changed over time?
Her trying to change helps her a lot. She goes from being pretty quiet, pretty grumpy, and antisocial, to being a happier, more open, but still pretty quiet woman. She teaches Carmina some songs on the guitar and plays more often for the people in Prosperity.
34. What’s their room look like right now?
I mean idk how the rooming situation is in Prosperity, but if she’s able to have a room that’s more private, she probably shares it with Savannah, after a point. Might have some plants and her guitar leaning in the corner. If it’s a shared room situation, she probably sticks to the bare minimum as to not take up too much space. Maybe a trunk under the bed with her clothes and a couple trinkets.
35. What are they like as a friend?
Literally if anything hurts you she will hunt it down. If she considers you a friend, she’ll make sure you know it.
36. What are they like as a partner?
Romantic partner, I’m assuming, she’s loving and protective, but often restrained. She doesn’t like to overstep boundaries.
37. Do they have any phobias?
Water. She can swim but fuck does she hate the feeling of something about to get her. Selene’s quest did not help that.
38. Did/do they go anywhere special for vacations?
Her parents took her to Disney once, but otherwise no.
39. Your character walks into a cafe. What do they order?
Raspberry hot chocolate.
40. What time do they go to bed, usually?
Whenever she’s done with the work for the day and has the chance to crash.
41. What’s their morning routine like?
Wake up → unbraid and brush hair → get dressed → find out what needs to be done for the day. Food if she remembers.
42. What’s the dumbest thing your character’s done?
Go after Selene’s weed bag and get attacked by a crocodile, what the fuck, we can find you more weed, we can’t casually find Mitali a new arm.
43. What pokemon would your character be?
OOOOOOhhhhhh this is my kind question, I need to go look at pokemon lists. Oh fuck I’m back, she’s a midnight form lycanroc for SURE. Looks sorta scary, is cuddly, has the ability to maim.
Tumblr media
44. What’s their pokemon team? Try to pick all 6.
I love these questions holy crap. Midnight form lycanroc because DUH. Houndoom. Pignite. Gengar. Yamask. Zangoose.
45. Theme song (and a playlist if you’ve got it!)
Wolf by First Aid Kit.It’s not a whole playlist but also: She Said Maybe by Steam Powered Giraffe. Lion’s Roar, by First Aid Kit. Ghost by Mystery Skulls. Thistles by Mumford and Sons. For Those Below, also Mumford and Sons.
46. If this character was in a musical, what would their motif be (what kind of instruments do you hear, what’s the tempo, ect).
Oh this is pretty hard.... Violin-centric, maybe. And the tempo would be different depending on which point of her life. A lively one for early life, a mournful one for like…. 16-32. Happier again after that.
47. What was this character’s biggest turning point in their life, something that changed them almost completely?
Her mothers dying for sure! She went from being a hopeful young woman to almost spiteful. Killing the men who killed her parents was what sealed the deal.
48. What was their lowest point? What was their highest point?
Yup parent death is still gonna be lowest point. It was sudden and painful and no one involved deserved it. Highest point is when she finally breaks free of that depression and realizes she doesn’t have to hate herself anymore.
49. What are some themes tied to your character’s story?
Forgiveness, redemption, hope.
50. What are some motifs associated with your character?
Wild animals (mostly wolves), death and rebirth.
51. What were some inspirations for your character (people, movies, games)?
Big surprise but….. Mitali was definitely inspired in equal parts by Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross (so Lost Legacy, in a nutshell). Also some great wolf related aesthetic pictures.
52. How are you and your character the same? How are you different?
Well this is an unexpectedly deep question that I’m going to avoid due to my own self-worth lol
53. Expectations vs Reality: what did you expect and what did you get with this character?
I expected to have her be very heavily military, but I ended up with a woman who only really wants to be a wife and just love the woman she marries with all of her heart and she wants to raise a kid and just have a good and happy family.
54. What does your character want, and what do they need?
She doesn’t know what she wants but she needs love. Any kind. Platonic, romantic, whichever.
55. What’s your character’s core trait? What’s their best trait? What’s their worst trait? What happens when these all interact with each other?
Protective to a fault. It can be both their best and worst trait, but their real worst trait is her self-hate. The two things interacting usually lead her to cutting herself off from friends so they’re “better off without her”.
56. What’s your overall goal with this character? Will they get a happy ending or will they succumb to their faults?
FUCK I want her to have a happy ending so badly. I’ll have to see how New Dawn ends first, but end goal is her marrying Savannah and eventually having a kid or two. Maybe twins???
Adora!!!

She went through a lot of emotional issues during her teens, but her dads got her in therapy and were supportive and loving. A lot of who she is today comes from the love she got then.
31. What’s their current main conflict?
Joseph fucking Seed decided to mess around in lives he should've left alone and now she's gotta clean up after him and try to protect her new friends.
32. What steps have they taken to overcome this conflict?
In the words of the lego movie: “shoot shoot shoot bullet bullet gun”
33. How have they changed over time?
Probably the biggest change was early teens to late. She was angry and spiteful and pretty depressed.
34. What’s their room look like right now?
Her room at home is covered in posters. But her room during 5 is… a bunker she found and claimed. She keeps it stocked, managed to put up a lesbian flag, and brought in the comfiest pillows and blankets she could.
35. Previously answered!
36. What are they like as a partner?
Over affectionate to the max, both with romantic partners and her work partner Hudson. A bit protective. Jealous when it comes to romantic partners.
37. Do they have any phobias?
Most boil down to the death of loved ones
38. Did/do they go anywhere special for vacations?
She used to get to pick a vacation spot once a summer when she grew up. Had to be reasonable, but she got to go to some great campgrounds, a couple good concerts, and Mammoth caves
39. Your character walks into a cafe. What do they order?
A white tea and cookies
40. What time do they go to bed, usually?
Depends on the day.
41. What’s their morning routine like?
Wake up → try to sleep longer → eventually be convinced out of bed (either by herself or by Jess) → try to manage her hair if she didn't braid it → give up on that and wash face → get dressed → eat → start day
42. What’s the dumbest thing your character’s done?
“I won't get hurt jumping from that height”
43. What pokemon would your character be?
Whisicott! But shiny
Tumblr media
44. What’s their pokemon team? Try to pick all 6.
I seriously love these questions. Whimsicott! Of course! And a sylveon. Gardevoir. Shinx. Rapidash. And Cinccino!! She’s fairy-centric.
45. Theme song (and a playlist if you’ve got it!)
Dance Apocolyptic by Janelle Monae.
46. If this character was in a musical, what would their motif be (what kind of instruments do you hear, what’s the tempo, ect).
Hmmm… Piano. Something upbeat, most of the time.
47. What was this character’s biggest turning point in their life, something that changed them almost completely?
Therapy in her early teens. It helped her cope with the fact she suffered under her birth parents and realize she’s worth so much more than they tries to make her feel
48. What was their lowest point? What was their highest point?
It’s still gonna be centered in her abuse, but it could also be the grudge she holds on the Seed family (minus Faith). Highest point is probably something to do with Jess.
49. What are some themes tied to your character’s story?
Healing, unconditional love, leadership.
50. What are some motifs associated with your character?
Water, guilt, death, freedom
51. What were some inspirations for your character (people, movies, games)?
Adora is named after She-ra! Her brother too. Physically, I’m not sure. Mmmmaybe a little Nadine Ross, but even then, their hair is really the main similarity, and even then Adora’s is more afro than Nadine’s
52. How are you and your character the same? How are you different?
We’re about the same age? We both love Jess Black. That might be where the similarities end.
53. Expectations vs Reality: what did you expect and what did you get with this character?
I expected to have a gal who was nursing a crush on her partner in the force but instead i have a gal who’s a hundred percent in love with an archer she found locked in a cage by religious zealots.
54. What does your character want, and what do they need?
She wants some goddamn rest and the ability to go on a proper date with her girlfriend. She wants to see her dads again. She wants to be certain she won’t wake up and find herself kidnapped again.
55. What’s your character’s core trait? What’s their best trait? What’s their worst trait? What happens when these all interact with each other?
Is “sunshine” a trait? She’s a happy sort of person and likes to show it. Smiles a whole lot. Best trait is her willingness to trust. Worst trait… she can hold a grudge. For a LONG time. Holding a grudge can keep her from mending bridges, so it doesn’t act terribly well with happy & trusting. And when it does, she’s happy to hold a grudge lol.
56. What’s your overall goal with this character? Will they get a happy ending or will they succumb to their faults?
My goal is her to eventually have a happy life. She gets her “happy ending” in the shape of being with Jess until the day she dies, and even taking in a little girl to raise. She passes away in her sleep a long way down the line.

Yo dawg I'm real sorry for bothering you but will we be getting more va stuff next year? Like HS (cronkri, sollux, porrim) and mystery skulls and undertale? It will be real cool to listen to your voice some more ( in a non creepy way)
Hi there~!!! You’re not bothering me at all, Anon~!!! I actually really appreciate your interest, and you absolutely will be receiving a whole lot more voice acting projects from me -- voice acting is my main passion~!!! I’ll also be going to auditions for various anime dubs (they come to Calgary sometimes, and I... am still stunned about that).  So I’ll keep you folks posted on those as well, if you’re interested~!
Btw, it’s really, really nice to see interest in things like my Undertale work, since I haven’t done that since... like.  Since I was doing tek, actually.  I was super messed up during two recordings in particular (no commissions), and now that I’m not, I want to see how I can handle them without relying on anything “extracurricular”, ahahaha~!!! So I’ll be targeting UT, and I’d love to do Mystery Skulls stuff too~!!!!!! * o * Voicing Lewis recently was so much fun~!!!!!!
And I’ll be posting recordings (a few HS, in particular, due to commissions) even before the New Year~! : D I’ve got a couple that are just going through audio editing~!!!

Inside a Brain Bank, Where Humans' Most Precious Organ Is Dissected and Studied
Tumblr media
Around three or four in the morning, Tina Zheng leaves home to meet a brain. “I’ll try to nap a little bit in the Uber ride, and then I’ll review all the brain regions in the car ride too,” she says. “We’re never sitting down doing a boring office day job. It’s just the next second, there’s a brain coming, and we have to be up and ready for it.”
Zheng works as a tissue coordinator at the Harvard Brain Tissue Resource Center (HBTRC) at McLean Hospital, one of the oldest brain donation banks in the country. Brain matter has a limited shelf life, so dissectionists like Zheng are on-call around the clock to partition and preserve a freshly donated brain as soon as it arrives to the lab, whatever time that may be.
Unlike other organ donations, which are generally used for transplants, brains are primarily harvested to support the research of neurological diseases and disorders. Every year, the HBTRC sends thousands of brain tissue samples to labs all over the world to investigate the causes and possible treatments of ailments such as addiction, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
Research supported by brain banks is increasingly critical with today’s rising rates of neurological illnesses. Between 1990 and 2015, the number of deaths from neurological disorders, including stroke, dementia and multiple sclerosis, increased by nearly 37 percent. In the United States alone, 5.8 million people currently live with Alzheimer’s, making it the nation’s sixth leading cause of death. By 2050, the affected population is projected to increase to almost 14 million.
Although treatments for these disorders remain elusive, postmortem brain tissue offers a key resource for unlocking possible solutions. In the past, neurological medications like lithium, used to treat ailments such as bipolar disorder, were discovered mostly by trial and error, with researchers or physicians prescribing different substances and observing the effects. Thanks to advances in genetics and biotechnology, scientists can now hunt for specific genes and molecular pathways that are related to a particular disease, and hopefully find treatments that are tailored to these targets. Brain tissue serves as the raw material for exploring genetic and environmental factors of neurological conditions, making it a critical substance for meeting the needs of brain research labs around the world.
“It’s that feeling of, I am contributing to something much more than myself that keeps me going,” Zheng says. “The human brain, there’s so much mystery involved in it right now, I want to be part of discovering what’s next and what’s left to uncover.”
**********
The brain is like a ticking time bomb whose clock starts at the moment of death. If a brain isn’t retrieved within 24 hours, its texture changes from a “firm Jello” to “pudding,” Zheng says, rendering it essentially useless for research. Given this short window of time, the brain donation team must work as efficiently as a fine-tuned assembly line.
The brain donation process starts when a donor is near death, or soon after they pass away. The family notifies a coordinator at the HBTRC, who secures a pathologist to remove the brain and a courier to retrieve it.

“Most of the time it’s a cold call,” says Kay Sullivan, program manager at the HBTRC. The coordinators screen potential donors for issues like massive strokes or infectious diseases, and direct the families to place the bodies in refrigeration within six hours. Most brain removals take place in a funeral home rather than a hospital, since hospitals are wary of taking in “random bodies,” Sullivan says.
Allison Rodgers, another tissue coordinator, recalls her first week on the job when the brain bank received eight cases in just five days over Christmas. “Sometimes you’re working a case, and you’re wrapping up … just getting back to bed, then you get another phone call,” she says. “Honestly, all you do is put on another pot of coffee and keep going.”
The HBTRC accepts donations from every state in the U.S., so sometimes a pathologist or courier needs to drive several hours to retrieve a brain. Fortunately, the center has a network of over 500 pathologists across the country, making most brain donations possible.
Katherine Waters, the chief of pathology and laboratory medicine at VA Maine Healthcare, started harvesting brains for the HBTRC this year. “When I get a call saying where the death is, I get the kit, get my car, get to the funeral home, and harvest the brain,” Waters says.
Waters’ brain removal kit is like something Florence Nightingale might carry if she were also a mechanic and a superhero. It contains a fluid-impermeable jumpsuit, a catheter to extract cerebrospinal fluid from the spinal cord, a tool resembling a chisel to pull off the calvaria, or skullcap, and a bone saw, which is similar to an electric cast saw. “You could do it by hand,” Waters says of cutting open a skull, “but it would take a lot more time, and I don’t have the physical strength to do that.”
Waters starts by elevating the upper body and making an incision from the back of one ear across to the other, allowing her to pull away the scalp. Using the bone saw, she cuts a circle across the skull and twists the skullcap off with the chisel. With the skull open, Waters can collect fluid samples and then remove the brain, placing it in a bag with a slurry of ice, and then in another bag and a Styrofoam cooler. Afterwards, she reassembles the skullcap and scalp as if nothing ever happened. The whole process takes less than an hour.
The brain makes its way from the funeral home to the HBTRC via a courier, sometimes on a commercial flight. Team members like Zheng and Rodgers receive notice of the brain’s arrival and assemble at the brain bank to perform the dissection. Like Waters, they follow a strict routine.
After weighing and photographing the brain to note any abnormalities, the dissectionists cut it in half. One side is further dissected and frozen at minus 80 degrees Celsius, while the other is fixed in formalin. Throughout each of these steps, dissectionists look for signs of disease progression, like the shrunken frontal lobe that can accompany dementia or the deteriorated striatum of Huntington’s disease.
“Throughout the whole process, we can see how much every part of the brain changed based on what the person was experiencing,” Zheng says. “You can kind of imagine what the person’s life was like and how the disease really affected him or her.”

After about three hours, the dissection is complete. The formalin sample joins over 6,000 other half-brains in the “fixed room,” and sections are made into slides and stains that histologists examine under a microscope to look for abnormalities in the tissue, like plaques characteristic of Alzheimer’s. Scientists from around the world can later request samples that match the specific pathology of their research.
“I don’t think that feeling you get when you first pick up a brain ever goes away,” Zheng says. “I feel very privileged to be in this position and to be able to talk to their families and hear their stories, and to be trusted with their loved ones’ tissue. … Seeing the tissue in my hand and cutting it and thinking about the person’s life—I think it’s really empowering.”
**********
Postmortem samples from brain banks like the HBTRC have already started to support breakthroughs in neurological research. For instance, a recent study using tissue from the cortex of donated brains pinpointed specific neurological pathways that are affected by autism spectrum disorder. Other work used donated tissue to look at the genes associated with major depressive disorder. The scientists found that the expression of genes varied based on factors like gender, providing key information that could someday be used to develop more efficient and personalized antidepressant treatments.
“You need all the tools you can get to understand these disorders,” says Sabina Berretta, director of the HBTRC. In addition to studying postmortem tissue, imaging methods like MRIs offer alternative tools for investigating neurological conditions.
Berretta explains that while imaging has the advantage of allowing scientists to study living subjects, it has poor resolution (“maybe a square centimeter”), and “you only get a slice of a person’s life at a certain time of their disorder.” By contrast, postmortem tissue provides resolution at the molecular level and could reveal lifelong patterns in a subject’s history. The two techniques are complementary, allowing broad analysis of living brains and then a more meticulous investigation of donated tissue.
“I like to think of it as if you were exploring a completely different part of the world,” Berretta says. “You would first want to fly at high altitude—get a bird’s eye view … but if you want to know about the plants and animals, what language they speak there, what houses they live in, you need to go to the ground.”
**********
Even with teams working around the clock, brain banks are sorely lacking one critical component: healthy brains. While people suffering from neurological disorders are more likely to register as donors to contribute to a future cure, healthy people usually don’t think to donate their brains. This absence places an enormous limitation on research, since scientists need control samples to compare against diseased tissue.
“I think a lot of people are scared of brain donation because it involves death, and a lot of people, especially young people, don’t plan their funeral,” Sullivan says. “There is a stigma … so people are scared of the topic.”
Sullivan cites some common misconceptions, such as the idea that brain donation prevents a funeral viewing (it doesn’t, as cuts are only visible on the back of the head). Many also assume that the brain is included in the standard organ donation you sign up for on your driver’s license, which prioritizes transplant and only retrieves the brain after it’s started to degrade.
“I think in the future, we’re hoping there will be a database where you can select which body parts will go to research, and then if there’s a car accident or something, you’ve already given pre-mortem consent for [brain donation],” Sullivan says.

The Harvard Brain Tissue Resource Center collects brain and tissue samples from across the United States and distributes them to investigators all over the world.

Efforts to increase the number of brain donations are already under way. Tish Hevel founded the Brain Donor Project in 2016 to help spread the word about the NIH’s NeuroBioBank, a national network of six brain banks including the HBTRC that was established in 2013. Motivated by a nightmarish experience trying to facilitate her father’s brain donation while he was suffering from Lewy Bodies dementia, Hevel started the nonprofit to ease the process of connecting donors with brain banks.
“There are more than 50 million Americans [with neurological disorders],” Hevel says. “That’s [almost] one in five of us … and we’re not getting answers fast enough. There simply is no substitute for human brain tissue. Many neurological researchers say that is the most precious substance known to man.”
In its first two years of operation, the NeuroBioBank supplied more than 10,000 tissue specimens to support almost $70 million in research funding that involved postmortem brain research. Since October 2016, the Brain Donor Project helped reach more than 6,300 new donors from all fifty states. But Hevel emphasizes that there is still a long way to go.
“When we were first setting up, [experts asked], ‘What if we’re too successful? What if we have too many brains?’” Hevel says. “It’s just not going to happen in our lifetime. It’s just such a critical issue, [and] we’re just not making progress in key areas. … We got to get to it so that people don’t have their whole families’ lives ruined.”
In light of this escalating need for neurological research, Hevel’s efforts offer hope: We might finally save the human brain from its most pervasive threats, if we choose to put our minds to good use.

At least 2 good things happened today tho
For 1, I FINALLY got a fucking appointment with a rhuematologist. Took fucking forever and I swear, the health care system is as incompetent as the VA sometimes. But. I have an appointment within a month. So that's good. And 2, I figured out cosplays for Phoenix Comicon. The two mains ones will be Lewis from Mystery Skulls animated and Alice Angel from BatIM. And heck, I can probably get my pops to cosplay as Henry or something. That'd be amazing.
