As someone who is VERY fascinated with adaptation in film (who spent quuuuuuite some time back in college obsessing over it for assignments) and who adores the graphic novel, my biggest takeaway from Nimona is that it is an EXCELLENT adaptation. Especially considering how much that production went through! Like, all of the changes and things they expanded on made sense for the transition from book to movie. My second takeaway is that I love it <3 Please go watch it I beg of you 🙏

#nimona #nimona is one of my favourite stories of all time #and the movie team really did it justice #there are some things i prefer in the book but thats mostly personal taste #i generally prefer a bit more ambiguity (which the graphic novel has in spades) and prefer being dropped into media res #rather than getting backstory forst upfront #but thats just me and i cant complain much and totally understand why those changes were made #in the end the heart of the story stayed the same and thats all that mattered to me #nimona graphic novel dragon design you will always be famous to me #nimona netflix #contender for my favourite film of the year #but it had an unfair advantage (graphic novel my beloved) #person who did a whole dang dissertation and a bunch of scattered essays for her animation degree about adapting books to film

#here’s my thoughts: #starting with percy: I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HOW THEY MADE HIS EYES SO BRIGHT GREEN IN THE MOA ONE #annabeth: FINALLY SHE HAS CURLY HAIR. the straight hair bothered me so much when i read the lost hero one #(don’t get me wrong i like leah as annabeth but i do still love curly hair annabeth) #reyna: like all of the graphic novels the whitewashing is questionable but besides that #[i do not condone it #just to be clear #i’m talking specifically about design) #this is my favourite one of her looks omg #hazel: i can see why people were so upset about her design in SoN #the hair is just NOT IT #they did her justice in the MoA one but again i know there is still a problem with whitewashing #and finally nico: they did him DIRTY in the SoN one #and every single one before that #but the MoA is AMAZING #and i will reiterate: they definitely need to work on NOT WHITE WASHING the characters #anyways yeah #heroes of olympus #percy jackson #annabeth chase #reyna avila ramírez arellano #hazel levesque #nico di angelo #the lost hero #the son of neptune #the mark of athena

Christmas 2023 taking me back to 5th grade middle school days.

#my sister surprised me with the 1-7 graphic novels of my favourite childhood series for Christmas. It arrived this week tho. #We talked about it briefly a few days before christmas and I guessed it as my xmas gift as a joke but ended up guessing it right #I’ve read the 1st & 3rd part in middle school after borrowing them from the school library. #But sadly the library did not have the other parts at the time. #I was such a big fan of this series that I ordered the 3rd copy of the series to have in my own collection. #It was probably the first thing I ever ordered off of Amazon. Silly charming coroful characters that fully acknowledge that made themselves into the magical girls from their in-universe manga by using a magic notebook that brings everything drawn to life. 

1st book: Danielle, our main characters, draws herself an imaginary friend to life. When said imaginary friend finds out she has a conflict of weather she has free will. Another favourite moment in 2nd book when Danielle draws an aware-im-a-clone-and-am-chill-with-that and better-version-of-herself clone to interact with people and do schoolwork. I like this.

in 3rd book mom gets hold of notebook and draws Danielle into a better daughter. and then it ends weird but in a good way.

I think I might want to write a 40 page essay comparing the representation of female characters in the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels vs the film
