Daisy and Daffodil for the flowery ask game ;)
Daisy - What inspired you to create your OC?
Izjik: I'm scared of fish and underwater caves and needed someone to be scared with me
Sepo: Izjik needed a friend and the concept of a mute, aroace, siren man was funny to me
Twenari: Sepo and Izjik needed someone to pull them into trouble, and wouldn't it be great if she was Doctor Strange but a twelve year old girl?
Djek: For a very early draft, Izjik and Sepo joined a mercenary guild, and I wanted a really underwhelming sorcerer who was good at other things on their team. Funnily enough, there was also a knight character in their squad named Destoux. I scrapped him, but the idea returned as Daedryn, the book 2 antagonist.
Astra: I needed a wizard npc to get my dnd players on the right track for a story arc. I wanted her to have a real hick accent because wizards are usually posh and british. Later on, I liked her enough that she got a book.
Mashal: I needed another npc accompanying Astra to have an emotional attachment to the villain. Also, robot. Love robot.
Ivander: I did a sketch this one time of a leperous elf woman wearing a beautiful porcelain mask. That idea morphed until it became a half-alien man wearing an illusion to cover a curse.
Daffodil - Is your OC likeable?
Likable is a pretty subjective thing, so I'm gonna rate them on how much I personally would want to spend a day with them.
Izjik - 9/10: A very solidly likable woman. She's funny, down to earth, could bench press two of me, and loves hiking. The only downside is that she wouldn't get my nerdy jokes.
Sepo - 7/10: Once he warms up to you, he's clever, likes to tease endearingly, and will do most anything for you. He's very much a grumpy older brother. However, that warm-up period is really rough.
Twenari - 8/10: We're both nerds, but in different directions. I think I could have some wonderful conversations with her, and I always love someone I can read in silence with. I do think I'd forget that she's twelve and invite her out to an R-rated movie or something.
Djek - 6/10: Personally, I'm not the type to hang out with life-of-the-party extroverts. I think he and I would get along swimmingly, I just don't think we'd interact much due to different hobbies.
Astra - 5/10: Lord, this woman would get on my nerves. I get that her prickly overconfidence is a defense mechanism (I wrote her that way, after all), but if I had to interact with her as a regular person, I doubt I'd see past it. I'd still think she's undeniably cool, though.
Mashal - 8/10: A genuinely kind and lovely man. He's the type to make you cupcakes because he thinks you're having a bad day or to remember what music you like so he can listen to it later. He only gets points off because he's a bit of a prude and would frown sadly whenever I talk about graffiti plans.
Ivander - 4/10: A fascinating specimen of a person, but god, what an absolute bitch. He's mean to people, no two ways about it. He'd make that middle school bully face while fake-complimenting your shoes to make you feel poor. He isn't lower on points because I appreciate people who are unabashed gossips and have no compunctions about telling me what Kelly from HR is up to when her husband is out of town.
Thanks for the asks, these were fun!

drinking from a poisoned well (from my tinyletter)
I wonder if I will ever stop trying to find myself in the culture I consume. I also wonder if the culture I consume is as much of a mirror as I think it is - does it have anything to do with me? Does it reflect me? And by reflect I mean does it tell you something about who I am, what matters to me, what I stand for?
Kanye West recently released his album Donda. As a reformed Kanye West fan, I’ve tried to find the words to describe the dull yet pulsing ache I feel when I think about his music and the impact that he has had on my life, whether I like it or not. I’ve issued a blanket mute to anyone I see posting that they are listening to his album...an album which I don’t need to listen to to know that it isn’t good. But more than the quality of the music itself, I don’t need to listen to the album because I don’t need to support his public alignment with accused and convicted rapists and sexual deviants, homophobes, anti-Semites, and misogynists. I have several problematic faves, but I don’t have 1 hour and 48 minutes to find out if anything on Donda is worth seeing past the list of collaborators, and the glaring lack of women in an album dedicated to his late mother. I don’t know the answer, I don't want to know, and I don't want to care.
Maybe that is the name for that dull, pulsing ache. Care. But not in the sense of, I care for you. In the sense of somehow this affects me with clear undertones of I wish it didn’t.  Like seeing an embarrassing photo of yourself from years ago. Or like this week, I got a request from someone who asked about Fly Art prints. Toni and I have only spoken publicly (lol) about the slow death of Fly Art once and it is as simple as the two of us not being interested in the project anymore and also as complex as my (I can’t speak for Toni) relationship to the music and artists that I love and follow.
I have loved rap music for a finite amount of time. I think it came about as a result of having dabbled in dance, and also my appreciation for a good fucking beat. I admired the brashness with which a rapper could admit their (though it was often his) faults while also boasting of their success. As a very self-conscious yet vaguely confident (in the right context!) person, I saw myself reflected in the tricky balance between humility and the skill of embodying my own self. I promise! I am! So self-conscious. Rap, and by extension hip-hop fed my soul. When I first moved to Sydney, I attended a Yeezus show in total nosebleed seats. Kanye played the intro to Runaway twice after asking who in the audience was hearing it live for the first time. It was one of the best concerts I had ever been to. I still chase this same feeling: the distance from the stage bridged through shared, mutual adoration.
I leaned on Fly Art as part of my personality until the proverbial reed broke. I thought it made me cool and influential. I loved the attention so much. And it was fucking fun! Until we tried to make money off of it (We succeeded though) and it became a job. It was no longer fun, more than a cool hobby that made me feel cool and popular. And I just stopped listening to hip-hop. My taste in music changed, and it seemed that every rapper I admired was on a mission to remind me they were straight cishet men doing straight cishet men things, including:
Denying the existence of slavery, supporting one of the actual worst presidents of the United States, which is saying something considering they’re all fucking hacks (Kanye West)
Appearing to have groomed young women...and giving R FUCKING KELLY A WRITING CREDIT IN 2021 (Drake)
Threatening to boycott Spotify if they didn’t return the music of someone who abused their partner (Kendrick Lamar for xxxtentacion, weird tbh)
Fighting with women who were trying to encourage the general public to read??? (J. Cole, in an odd bid against literacy)
Featuring Chris Brown (unfortunately too many to name)
In summary, just a lot of stuff that left a bad taste in my mouth and left me questioning what I had signed up for. What my support meant. Worse, what did my profiting off of the work of black artists say about me across the ugly ugly backdrop of gender-based violence, systemic racism and police brutality? The slow death of Fly Art was really just the same story over and over again: people change and they indeed realise things. They do not condone misogyny and misinformation, which I strive to do. I also cannot stand albums longer than 16 tracks. Who even has the time?
That isn’t to say I don’t listen to any rap or hip-hop music at all. There is still a lot of it on rotation!!! But I can’t think of anything more exhausting than seeing Donda on my feed multiple times. I don’t have to listen to the album. I cannot believe how hard I stanned this man. Part of my disgust and anger is definitely directed towards me. There is an endless bowl of shame in there. I often call myself a “reformed Kanye West fan” because there is so much of his music that I love. And I resent him so deeply now because the more he continues to do *gestures vaguely* whatever this is, the more poisoned the well feels.
I understand that it is possible to like problematic people and to support artists or people in general who aren’t perfect. It is inevitable that everyone has fucked up at least once in their life. It feels like I’m reliving a cycle of disappointment that I feel for myself when I make a mistake or when I am unkind. Ha, maybe the point isn’t to find yourself in what’s out there, but to find it (speak to the manager) within. Maybe I just feel envious of people who are able to separate the art from the artist?
On the other hand, fuck that. There is a line. In a world that is rapidly taking away a woman’s right to her own body, where we are constantly in a deluge of violence of all sorts from men in power, I cannot believe that people I know are still listening to Kanye West! Openly!!!! Is any gesture of support worth the pain inflicted by the men I mentioned above? There will eventually be a time when I stop drinking from this bowl of shame, alienation and just straight up anger, but at the very least I know my answer. I want people to know that this shit doesn't sit right with me, because how else can we demand for something better? That’ll be enough. It has to be enough.

I bet Rkelly enablers is scared af that they coming for them next #SurvivingRKelly
Face it, Poor & delusional R. Kelly fans. He ain’t coming home. Stop wasting good gas & shoe leather going to these trials. Y’all is 76. Let it go. Let’s start there. He destroyed numerous lives. He will spend the rest of his in jail. He’s past help.
The one thing that I take from watching or learning about Surviving R. Kelly and the way black women are rallying for that man KNOWING what he did, reminds me of Tory Lanez and the way black females will not support Meg. Very sad. 😞
speaking of this the fact that a white woman crime reporter has more credibility than those “black “ gossip girls who are really not for black folks and definitely not for black woman is worthy of shame in our society. Imagine being the type of nigcels or pick me willingly slutting yourself out for some irredeemable degenerate who isn’t gonna respect you or have sexual relations with your dumb self anyways can’t relate I got an education and standards.
“The thing that I’ve learned the most is that nobody matters less, than black girls” ~ Jim DeRogatis.
Give that man his flowers becuz he LISTENED!!! 😢
Any fan who supports those types of irredeemable bastards need to be blocked, muted, unfollowed, and burn in Dante’s inferno because hell ain’t good enough for me. Harriet Tubman shouldn’t have come to save those pick mes and nigcels ancestors some of them should’ve been capped

Bunny Daniels is back on the scene with a brand-new release: "Mute"
November 2022 -  Bunny Daniels is an artist and songwriter with a focus on creating innovative music that feels intriguing and unmistakably original. Bunny has been passionate about music ever since she was a child. She displayed her precocious talent for music as a choir member but didn't stop there. She ended up developing her singing chops, eventually becoming a lead singer in her teenage years and focusing on her music career.
She also honed her melodic sensibilities and developed a truly original style, which combines elements of various genres. Genres include pop, R&B, gospel, and so much more! Regardless of the style she sings, Bunny has one goal: she wants to spread hope, positivity, and joy through her music. Her most recent studio release, "Mute," is an exciting example of what she is all about. On the one hand, the music feels like a perfect combination of musical styles, making things exciting and diverse due to the artist's natural creativity. On the other, "Mute" is a perfect representation of the unique spark that drives Bunny's vision.
Bunny's music is impressive due to its remarkable sound, and "Mute" is most definitely going to be something for you to check out if you do enjoy the sound and feel of modern and classic R&B artists such as Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Solange, and Rihanna. While "Mute" has something in common with the work of those artists, it also feels like a unique statement for Bunny, as well as being a fantastic piece of music with a very personal approach to artistic integrity and creative freedom. Find out more about Bunny Daniels and do listen to "Mute." This release is currently available on some of the best digital music streaming services out there. When not busy making music, Bunny is also an actor, writer, and dancer, performed on Broadway, and was a featured performer on Sesame Street Live. Most recently, Bunny booked her first role in a feature film this year.

On the fifth anniversary of Michael Jackson's death, a quote from Nas appeared in a Rolling Stone piece by the writer Toure:
"When I got the news, the weather around me immediately changed drastically," the rapper said. "It suddenly rained so hard. Wind blew like crazy. Clouds did something different. It was as if you felt him leaving the world."
Nas spoke about Jackson as if he were a god. Quoting an array of African American luminaries on Jackson's legacy, Toure explained just how much he meant to black people, and how rapidly his "Wacko Jacko" label was fading away after his death.
Nowhere in Toure's article is there mention of the multiple accusations of child abuse that were levied against Jackson - accusations that have gained new life with the release of HBO's documentary Leaving Neverland, which chronicles, in excruciating and credible detail, Jackson's abuse of two boys, Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who have now come forward as adults.
Toure's omission is especially notable when you consider that he is a principal talking head in the other recent documentary about a serial abuser who was hiding in plain sight: Surviving R. Kelly, which chronicles, in excruciating and credible detail, the R&B star's alleged abuse of numerous women and underage girls.
That Toure, who unlike so many others wasn't fooled by R. Kelly, got caught up in Jackson hagiography suggests that there is something fundamentally different about his case - that he is too important to too many people to give up easily; that there is something about Jackson that makes us all a little confused.
As the evidence presented in Neverland reverberates through the media, the reaction has been oddly muted. In The New York Times, Wesley Morris wrote a moving account of seeing through Jackson's "magic trick" at last. Slate published a series of articles reckoning with his life and legacy, while Carl Wilson writing. "There are plenty of Jackson songs that will feel radioactive from now on."
Jackson has a few prominent defenders, like Wendy Williams, and legions of civilian fans who point out that a documentary is the not the same thing as a conviction. Still, the atmosphere has not been filled up with the kind of debate or commentary that accompanied the controversies surrounding R. Kelly, Harvey Weinstein, or Woody Allen. The predominant sense is of baffled silence, as if the magnitude of Jackson's crimes is so great that it hushes all else.
What, really, is there to say? The boys were so young, and they loved him so much.
But there is perhaps another reason the chattering class has been so uncharacteristically quiet: Michael Jackson presents a case too extraordinary for the media to easily absorb and process. Jackson was not just a pop star: he was the most famous famous person. To try to cancel him would be to point out a criminal at the very heart of the entertainment industry's belief system, and to remove the laurels of the most significant black artist of the pop age.
To analyze the phenomenon of Michael Jackson properly would mean taking on the laborious task of figuring out how we - meaning society at large - ended up with the kind of entertainment industry we have. And it would mean admitting that the American dream - a rapid ascent to stardom on the basis of sheer talent - is hollow.
The work of undoing Michael Jackson's place at the core of American culture has simply been too hard, for too long. We'd have to start with the man in the mirror, as somebody once said. That's not easy to do.
Much criticism has been leveled at the mothers of Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who allowed their boys to spend the night in Jackson's bed and stay with him for days on end without a chaperone - days that were filled with ceaseless molestation. It is easiest to blame them, because they are ideal scapegoats for a universal affliction, which is that fame is so important in America that it can blind us to what is happening literally before our own eyes, to our own kids. Painting these boys' mothers as monsters is the shortest cut to absolving ourselves.
Exacerbating our incompetence in this matter is a long tradition of racist and lazy reporting on Jackson, which undercuts the media's basic authority on the subject. The very idea of condemning him feels like joining a rather horrible tradition. Racist coverage of Jackson ended up enabling his crimes.
"Am I Black or White?" as the In Living Color parody went. It was Wacko Jacko who could plausibly claim to have an innocent relationship with all those boys. He was weird, he didn't know himself, and his new apparent whiteness undercut the sense that he was a red-blooded adult.
The lyrics to "Am I Black or White?" include the line "I'm still a virgin and I'm 33...and I hang out with Macauley all night." What Leaving Neverland reveals, to the viewer's awakening horror, is that those boys he took on tour and trotted out for the cameras were, quite obviously, his boyfriends. How could we not have seen that?
Black celebrities have never been taken seriously the way white celebrities have, and scandals are the best place to see that prejudice in action. The alleged crimes of Kelly and Jackson are different, but the comparison is helpful, because Kelly provides a similarly warped paradigm:
Jackson got away with it because nobody took him seriously, and Kelly, whose own former lawyer has called him "guilty as hell" of abusing underage girls, got away with it because nobody took the black girls he allegedly assaulted seriously.
We cannot trust Jackson or Kelly, or any of the music critics who defined their legacies for us. But who can you trust, besides the victims? Our imagination has been shaped by a racist mainstream press, the biased interests of a powerful music industry, and a moral obfuscation produced by that most intoxicating of drugs - fame. You may well have been lied to your whole life: about Michael Jackson and R. Kelly, yes, but also about the fact that no celebrity is quite what they seem. Famous people are personae, packaged and sold to you according to whatever standards of desirability are most profitable at that moment.
In this gargantuan mess of a situation, the fall of Michael Jackson contains the civilizational implications of a Greek tragedy. Harvey Weinstein, for example, was easier to interpret, neater in his moral typology: big bad rich man victimized weaker people, big bad rich man loses his wealth and status. In his case, we could at least convince ourselves that redemption was possible. But there is no narrative of righteous justice for Michael Jackson, not least because he's dead. It's too much to think about: too horrible, too unfixable.
We are nowhere near reaching closure on Jackson, but what he does teach us is that the American dream of fame and fortune is a sick institution, with a pathological relationship to the truth. It is a problem that touches on every sphere of culture, all the way down to the most basic values that we call American: meritocracy, money-spinning, male heroism, race-blind justice.
"Michael Jackson" was always a product, more than he was a man, and we were his customers. According to the principle 'caveat emptor,' it's up to us to figure out what we were really buying. And that is a mystery no one can solve but ourselves.
-Jo Livingstone
