So when both Dimple and Ritsu asked about why Mob doesn't use his powers more and tried to push him to do so, he said that psychic powers can't be used to get muscles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let's unpack that actually, because its not exactly right and there's like a mini arc about it.
First, Tsuchiya doesn't count because she got her muscles from training. her powers make her stronger but still.
Then there's...mercenary...Joseph's coworker.... *checks wiki* Udo!
so he's the first introduction to using psychic powers to get muscles, he gets jacked on command.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shibata says "you're the same type as me", so we know he also gets jacked on command and has real form that's smaller that we didn't see yet. They do it by sending signals to muscles to expand them, the "Psycho steroid" technique.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
after Shibata's fight against the bi club and him passing out, Musashi mentions that Shibata's muscles are shrinking, but it is during the final arc that we finally get an omake showing histrue form
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the conclusion to this side arc is during Shibata vs Musashi fight with Musashi won both because he with psychic-ly made muscles lost to a 15 year old with properly trained muscles. (and Dimple using them to their full potential/100%)
Tumblr media
and also because the power of friendship helped. watching Mob try so hard gave them all courage
Tumblr media
There's a parallel to the Ritsu vs Shimazaki fight of the moral of hard work being more fulfilling than relying on talent or abuse of power/authority (Ritsu: cleanup/ Shimazaki and Shibata: world domination)
Musashi's "attacking someone weaker than you.... that's why I won't hand over Kageyama to you"
Ritsu *refusing Shimazaki's offer to join their side*: your struggle to live an enjoyable life..your sweat...your tears... it's this lifestyle to wholeheartedly follow your goals that I wanted. living happily, I'm not gonna give that up!"

On MP100 Ao3 Relationship Stats
A few months ago, phantomstatistician posted a breakdown of the most popular ships in the mob psycho 100 fandom. At the time, like a lot of other fandom folks, I found the report a bit depressing. I became interested in seeing the numbers for myself and decided to crawl the public database myself to see if there were trends or other insights worth noting. This is a long post, so I'm cutting it, but you'll find background information and data underneath the cut.
A couple of notes on the original graph linked above.
First, there's nothing wrong with it! OP does a major service to fandom community by taking stats requests and compiling them. The report itself is a sample of about half of the current archive. MP100 as whole on Ao3 hovers around 9k total works. The original graph also includes works across languages, word counts (works under 100 words are most likely podfics or art), and crossovers. It's also displayed as a pie chart, which I think some people might find misleading. The pie slices in that graph represent parts of a whole where the whole is the Top Ten, not the archive in its entirety.
I wrote my crawler. It worked, and I was able to grab metadata from the public works in the archive. For an initial crawl, I limited initially to English works only, to works with word count > 100, and to no crossovers. If you're interested in my reasoning for doing things this way, I can expand on that in a separate post.
Please also note: I last crawled the archive on 22 May, and in respect for policy, I observed Ao3 rate limit policy, and I only crawled publicly available works (read: no works from locked accounts are included).
Here are the top 10 relationship tags, plotted in bar:
Tumblr media
I chose to plot in bar to make it more clear that the top 10 alone is only a slice of the overall pie itself. For example, SeriRei is only about tagged in about 19.4% of the works I crawled.
Here's a list of the top 50 relationship tags with number of works:
Reigen Arataka/Serizawa Katsuya with 1386 works
Kageyama "Mob" Shigeo & Reigen Arataka with 944 works
Hanazawa Teruki/Kageyama "Mob" Shigeo with 920 works
Kageyama "Mob" Shigeo/Reigen Arataka with 687 works

This is a pretty surface-level insight re: MP100 Ao3, but it speaks to my initial interest in the subject. I would like to continue making use of the public data available, so if anyone has specific questions they'd like me to help dive into, please let me know.
Please also note: I'm a programmer, but I'm not a statistician. If you find errors in my work, please do not hesitate to bring them to my attention so I can correct them.
Thanks for reading.

MP100 III Crunchyroll Premier
For all my Tumblr peeps who want a glimpse of what was at the premier, I have them below the cut (no pics or videos were taken (thank goodness) so this is only text except for the exclusive poster) (disclaimer: I wasn’t there, so these are just things I’ve heard/read since the premier)
This contains very little plot, and mostly what was revealed at the Q&A, the ED, and some things speculated by fans.
If you do reblog this, I ask that you tag with a spoiler tag of some kind. Many fans want to be completely surprised and I’d like to keep it that way for them.
Very normal episodes. Staff said the real “meat” of the story begins in EP3.
Reigen is as handsome as ever (bless you BONES). Apparently lots of shiny scenes with him.
ED3 is completely glass animation and mirrors ED1 thematically (ED1 was Reigen POV and ED3 is Shigeo POV).
After EP2, there was a message from ONE and the staff.
ONE’s message was thanking the fans, saying how he couldn’t be happier with out S3 turned out, and to look forward to more.
Q&A afterwards with BONES President, Makahito Minami
He said all the animation in S3 is hand drawn. No CGI.
He was asked what his favorite arc or moment was and he said characters with butt chins and in S2 when Mob puts Emi’s novel back together.
He was also asked if he could be any character which one he’d be and he immediately said Musashi Gouda.
Apparently, something was said along the lines of “staff animators were sticking to the anime from S1 - S3 and onwards.” (REIGEN manga movie? Beach OVA???)
There is an official fan book coming out during S3 (more content??? PLEASE?!?!?)
Here was the poster that was exclusive to the premier

And your one plot spoiler (though, if you’ve read the manga, you knew this was coming):
