Joel Miller - REM - It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine).

The irony here is that Joel Miller is not fine. Far from it. Give that man a sandwich and a blow job already, sheesh. 😬 Then tuck him into bed. But you can bet your sweet, denim-clad ass that he'll belt it out regardless after one too many whiskeys at The Tipsy Bison. One hefty hand draped over the mic stand, whilst the other holds onto the mic for dear life, pressed a little too close to his mouth as he sings; stumbling around the words as they speed up until he's rambling and trying not to cry. This song is all about pussy. How apt that our muff diving king 👑 would choose this song whilst flipping through the karaoke song list book with the TF boys on a rowdy night out to blow off some steam. Washed down with plentiful foamy beers, Frankie takes to the stage with all the boys in tow as his backing singers. Benny takes the high notes. Will's bringing the air guitar and finger flips. Santi's... well, I'm not sure what Santi is doing exactly. Some kind of break dancing? Or he's having a seizure. Who knows? And all this happens as Frankie edges closer and closer to the end of the stage as he raps along enthusiatically about having the fever for the flava of the coochie, and eventually falls off of it, face first. Don't worry, Hermosa. He's not drunk. The floor just hates him. Miraculously, the Standard Heating Oil cap survived. Unlike Tom.

Ezra - The Allman Brothers Band - Ramblin' Man.

Lord Kevva, Ezra was born a ramblin' man... Give this loquacious prospector any sort of microphone and an audience and he'll talk your ears off until they bleed. The choice of song here is apt, birdie. Although singing whilst drinking, Ezra will more than likely throw out garbled gibberish than actual words you can understand in their entirety. Ezra singing this song when he's had one too many beers on The Pug, sounds exactly like it would when you sit on his face; muffled slurps around something wet and sticky that he's drooling on.

Dieter - Kid Rock - Bawitdaba.

Dieter has an arsenal of karaoke songs to sing when drunk or just plain high off his balls, but Kid Rock seems to be his go to on his bar warbling rotation. And don't forget he'll bust a move to it like Young MC too. That man's crocs were made for dancing in, right? Although truth be told, Dieter doesn't actually know all the words to this song; he just knows the chorus. Which he sings on repeat. Over and over. Even when not at karaoke. Or drunk. Bawitdaba, da bang, da dang diggy, diggy, diggy, said the boogie, said up jump the boogie. Sounds exactly like Dieter when he's had too much of the white stuff, and the tempo at which he bangs you to.

Agent Whiskey - Big n' Rich - Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy.

Not only is this Jack's karaoke jam, sugar, but the mantra to his cowboy lifestyle he upholds with combustible swagger. Whiskey loves a night out to drink, shoot some darts and croon away to his favourite songs that remind him of simpler times gone by, before the Goddamn butterfly guy shot him in the fucking head... And he has a special rhinestone studded denim jacket he'll whip out for the occasion too. Bling, bling! He's more shiny than a hot tin toof in August. Mount that cowboy and give him the ride of his life after he serendaes you. I guarantee you that Jack'll start singing the moment you saddle up. Yeehaw!

Javier Peña - Kool And The Gang - Ladies Night.

Mm, sophisicated mama, Agent Peña's got a single strobe illuminating him and barely moves, except for that little thrust of his tight ass in his very tight jeans every time he sings to you that the feelin's right, cariño. Oh what a night it is indeed. It takes a copious amount of Loredo Legspreaders to get the mardy Agent Peña up on the stage, but when that sassy cat gets loose? Miaow, mami. Watch out because Javier is going to get his claws into you after serenading you with his sexy ass jam and little butt shakes. I mean, how can you resist?

Pero Tovar - Bloodhound Gang - The Bad Touch.

You and Pero are nothing but mammals, so do it like they do on the Discovery Channel. Except, the Discovery Channel wasn't around in Pero's time. Not that it matters, he'll soon bend you over and rut into you like a drooling chimp regardless. But first, a little karaoke with an even bigger attitude from our surly Spaniard, before you bend over and present the all-you-can-eat-pussy-buffet to him.

Oberyn Martell - Another Level - Freaky.

Oberyn may be the freakiest lover of the Pedro Boys, or at least the sluttiest, and by rights this song is his mantra after one too many fruit wines. He'll certainly lick you up and down until you say stop. Crooning this tune is like an act of love making itself; those hips are rolling, those eyes are beckoning and that serpent tongue is licking all over his lips in a lusty appetite as he almost floats off the stage ethereally towards you in that golden coat of dreams. But remember, all Red Vipers have two faces; the curious one as they sniff you out, and the one they show you right before they play with your body, baby, n' make you feel hot…

Marcus Pike - Boyz II Men - I'll Make Love To You.

Oh, Marcus singing this ballad on stage in front of you, hitting those high notes with gusto, and looking all boy band delicious in his leather jacket, is just a sight to behold. And like the lyrics suggest, this gorgeous FBI Agent will definitely make love to you, like you want him to. Aptly, this song will play in the background all night too as Marcus ensures the lyrics are branded into your skin like a tattoo where they'll always stay. Until he asks you to go to Washington DC with him... Looks like poor Marcus is singing on his own again. 🥺

Dave York - Talking Heads - Psycho Killer.

Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, away! … Dave's coming for you. As soon as he puts the microphone down, he'll step off the stage with cool composure and will make a beeline right for you, baby. Reaching into his pocket for the cables ties he has stashed in there constantly, because... dark reasons. And you know you should run. You know Dave is a Psycho Killer… and yet, you're feet are not moving, are they? Qu'est-ce que c'est, Daddy?

Din Djarin - David Bowie - Space Oddity.

Here am I floating 'round my tin can. Far above the moon… I mean, this song was written for Din, right? Din doesn't need a microphone, the modulator in his helmet makes sure you can hear him in the back. And his cape adds for that extra swish as he belts out this haunting, spacey tune.

Don't forget his duet buddy though, The Kid. Debut album release pending. It's going to be wizard.

Marcus Moreno - Enrique Iglesias - Hero.

Marcus can be your hero baby… He can kiss away the pain. Well, if one Pedro Boy was going to caterwaul this God awful song, you just know it'd be our resident superhero. Imagine Marcus in his tight black t-shirt, specs and hand over his heart crooning deeply with powerful emotion as he belts this one out with intense passion. He feels every word, means every lyric, sweetheart. Then you let him take you home where you can play the villain role all night long with him and get him to reach those pitchy, high notes that a strong, heroic man probably shouldn't make...

Max Phillips - HIM - My Vampire Heart.

A little on the nose, yes? But who doesn't love a bit of HIM? Goths and vampires everwhere unite. Although it was a toss up between this and Monster Mash. Max'll sing this tune with a venti Starbucks cup full of blood, stopping occasionally to take a sip from the straw. Power winking his way through, the results are highly effective as victims everywhere will fall at his feet in the crowd under his rockstar-in-navy-two-piece thrall. But he can't stay long to indulge, he's got an audit to finish in the office tomorrow morning. Maybe just a quick bite after the song.

Silva - The Weather Girls - It's Raining Men.

Raining dicks more like. And Silva doesn't have an umbrella. I mean, this cowboy is up there giving it his all and ain't that the truth. He's travelled a long way to this saloon to get up and cut a rug whilst he sings in abundance. And aside from the unrequited pining for a certain Sheriff, this is the most intense Silva has felt in a long time. Let him have his moment in the spotlight. This handsome, rugged cowboy deserves all the worship, and men that can fall from the sky.

Comandante Veracruz - Alice Cooper - No More Mr Nice Guy.

We're alluding to the fact that Veracruz was ever a nice guy to begin with. He wasn't. Cunning, coniving, sly, ruthless... need I go on? But the Comandante can turn that nice guy charm on as he sings to you; luring you in with that hot smile as slick as his hair in the sweaty jungle, and those melty, dark chocolate eyes... It's enough to have you cuffing yourself up and following him willingly back to his camp, right? And the Comandante has no intentions of being a nice guy with you either, cariño... Nu-uh.

Maxwell Lord - Sir Mix-a-lot - I like Big Butts.

Maxwell is SPRUNG by big butts. Even his own. And he puts it all into busting out this song on the stage, equipped with some choice moves and booty pops to boot. The whole debacle is a show in itself and Maxwell goes out with a bang, a standing ovation and a new found sense of otherworldly superiority. It'll go to his head a bit, so best help him off the stage and calm him down with some, uh… butt action to bring him back to earth. Yeah. Nothing quite like hard anal to bring you a sense of calm, eh?

Javi Gutierrez - Shania Twain - Man, I feel like a woman!

An insanely happy, slightly sozzled Javi thought this was the best idea in the world. Oh, dios mio it's going to be so fucking goooood! He got up on the stage and swung his hips with sass as those familiar beats to the song we all know and sing to at the top of our voices in the shower, came on. And it was divine inspiration because sweet baby Javi G is on fire as he struts around the stage, popping that ass out and sings with all he's got around those wavy curls. It's enough to make you equally cringe and pretend you're not with him, and to absolutely soak your panties through in equal measure. You go, baby girl! Sing with him now! last song: Soulkiller by Free Flow Flava (i'm relying on the Spotify algorithm way too much, i almost only listen to the songs of my Discover Weekly lists and random themed mixes, cause i'd rather embrace my laziness and not bother searching and carefully selecting what i'm listening to)

favourite colour: it changes from time to time, i was obsessed with purple when i was a kid, then i switched to yellow, then orange, then red. Currently my favs are mahogany and dark green, but i'm slowly rediscovering purple again.

last movie/tv show: Gilmore Girls (my bf's friend group suddenly got very fond of it, so i started to re-watch it with them), before that we watched Reacher S2

sweet/savoury/spicy: spicy, but if we consider scents too, then i like sweet too (but that also needs to be a little spicy)

last thing i googled: the age of Keiko Agena cause my bf was not believing me that she was actually not a teenager when she played Lane

current obsession: rockstar AUs and everything Sirius and prongsfoot related @lovelymasks, @in-flvx and @plecotusauritus post in general! I also want to revisit my pirate AU and atla/lok AU too in the near future, so i'm discretely collecting inspiration for those too

Judging by the cover/A friend is Coming

Season one

-Narrative-

khadijah walks into her office towards her desk, turns to check on Synclaire, but stops when the phone rings. Synclaire answers the phone with the most horrible British accent, "Hello, this is Flava Magazine. How can I help you, Love?" Synclaire asks cheerfully.

Khadijah scrunches up her face, "Synclaire, what are you doing?" Synclaire covers the end of the phone and whispers, "I'm making them think we're international." Khadijah bended down and said, "make them think we need some money." Bending back up, taking papers from off the desk. "And keep in mind, this is a grassroots publication." She said sternly. Synclaire nodded, returning back to the phone. "Got it. Yo, yo, yo! How could I hook you up, G?" Synclaire yelled through the phone.

Khadijah shakes her and looks to the elevator when no other than Regine, walking out. "Hello, ladies. I've got good news, and I couldn't wait till you got home to rub your noses in it." She said, smiling at Khadijah.

Khadijah rolled her eyes, crossing her arms. "Well, if it isn't her royal heinie." Regine at the window turns around and smirks, "Look outside. What is Long, Black, and at the curb?" She said, pointing at the window. "I ain't touching." Khadijah said, walking back to her desk. Regine walks over as Synclaire runs to the window to be nosey. "Honey, it's a stretch limo." Regine said. "Well, good, it'll go with your stretchmarks." Khadijah said teasingly.

Regine scoffs, taking a deep breath side, eyeing khadijah. Synclaire walks up to the two, putting both arms on their shoulders. "Is it me, or do I sense a little tension here?" She asks. Regine and Khadijah look at Synclaire and roll their eyes. "Now, I know your Aries rising is constantly conflicting with her Taurus Moon, but can't we all get along?" She asked them nicely. Regine rolled her eyes again and huffed. "Well, look, you all can do whatever you like. I just came by to tell you that the limo outside happens to belong to my new boyfriend, Brad." She said, smiling dreamily.

Khadijah stood up, pushing Regine to the elevator, "If we didn't have so much work to do here, we'd love to hear more about your latest Canine Catch." She said, with a snide attitude.

Regine sits on Synclaire's desk, "Oh, would you?" She said. Patting khadijah on the arm. "Well, Brad and I were on our way to lunch, but we never made it out of the limo." She said, smirking. Synclaire gave her a dopey smile, while khadijah put her hand on her hip, not looking surprised. "He ate caviar from my cleavage, and we drank champagne from my shoe--ah!" Throwing her head back, laughing. "With them big old feet of yours, y'all must have been crazy drunk." Khadijah remarked, looking down at Regine's feet.

Regine waved her off and continued with her story. "I'm telling you, Brad, now, he could be the one. He is fine, educated, and wealthy. And has a butt that's dented on the sides, with the promise of power." Regine said. Fanning herself, giving the two women full imagery.

"We'll see how long this lasts." Khadijah said, shaking her head. Walking again to her desk. Regine frowned and got off the desk, walking to khadijah. "Wait a minute. What is that supposed to mean?" She asked, crossing her arms. Khadijah swung around, giving Regine a pointed look. "Men dump you like Eddie Murphy albums." Offended Regine looks away from Khadijah. "Look, Regine, if you want to have a lasting relationship, you need to start looking beyond man's wallet." She said, seriously.

"Eddie Murphy makes albums?" Synclaire asked, confused. Khadijah and Regine looked Synclaire with 'really' faces. "Synclaire, do your job, please." Khadijah told her. Synclaire nodded, going back to putting people on hold and reading her magazine. Khadijah snatched the magazine and threw it on her desk, causing Synclaire to pout.

Returning back to their conversation, Regine again gives khadijah an offended look. "Wait, are you saying I'm shallow?" Khadijah pretends to think for a second and eagerly nods. "As a kiddy pool." Regine makes an exaggerated gasp. "Mmct." She said, walking towards the elevator.

"I will see you at home, Synclaire. And by to you long neck Dinosaur." She said. Letting out her loud signature laughs, that could be heard from down the street.

Khadijah rolls her eyes and shakes her head. Going back to her papers, when the phone rings. "FlavaMagazine. Oh, hi, mommy." Khadijah said, smiling. Khadijah scrunches up her face in confusion, "who?" She asked. Khadijah smiled and signed, "You know ion like surprises." Khadijah told her. "Alright, I'll talk to you later, Ma, love you." She hung up the phone looking towards Synclaire.

"My mom said there was someone coming to visit. She said it was one of my best friends. But I wouldn't tell you because it's a surprise." Synclaire frowned in confusion, playing with a hair pink haired troll.

"Who do you think it is?" Synclaire asked. Khadijah shrugged, grabbing her bag and coat, "I don't know. But I know I'm hungry. Let's go." Synclaire rushed out the chair, grabbing her things, "don't have to tell me twice."

Bennu

Bennu is an ancient Egyptian deity linked with the Sun, creation, and rebirth. He may have been the original inspiration for the phoenix legends that developed in Greek mythology

Roles

According to Egyptian mythology, Bennu was a self-created being said to have played a role in the creation of the world. He was said to be the ba of Ra and to have enabled the creative actions of Atum.The deity was said to have flown over the waters of Nun that existed before creation, landing on a rock and issuing a call that determined the nature of creation. He also was a symbol of rebirth and, therefore, was associated with Osiris.

Some of the titles of Bennu were "He Who Came Into Being by Himself", and "Lord of Jubilees"; the latter epithet referred to the belief that Bennu periodically renewed himself like the sun was thought to do. His name is related to the Egyptian verb wbn, meaning "to rise in brilliance" or "to shine".

Depiction

The Pyramid Texts, which date to the Old Kingdom, refer to the 'bnw' as a symbol of Atum, and it may have been the original form of Bennu. In this word the shape of a bird is used that is definitely not a heron, but a small singing bird. The old 'Woerterbuch der Aegyptische Sprache' surmised that this small singing bird might have been a Yellow Wagtail ('Motacilla flava', but no clear reason is given.However, the same bird used in the spelling of a word 'bn.t' in a painted limestone relief wall fragment from the suntemple of the Vth Dynasty king Niuserre from the Old Kingdom, now in the Aegypisches Museum at Berlin (inv.nr. Aeg.Mus. 20038-20039), clearly shows traces of blue-grey paint on much of the body of this bird-sign, so that a different bird species was definitely meant. Shape and colour seem to point rather to a (Mediterranean) Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) for whom, however, another name was in use: 'hn.t<y'= lit. 'the one of the canal'.

Traces of orange(brown)coloring existing on and also outside the chiseled glyph did originally not belong to this particular bird sign. They are caused by natural stains in the white limestone, as the higher lying layer of blue paint on the bird shows as well. The advantage of such bird identification might be, that a Kingfisher flying lowly over watery surfaces and shrieking loudly would be a reasonable mythical example for the creator deity Atum of Heliopolis as having risen from the first dark waters, called Nun, in order to start his creation of the world. If so, this Kingfisher 'bnw' or 'bn.t' is a good match for the mythical and cultic Nilegoose (Eg. 'smn') of the creator deity Amun in later periods, imagined to having been honking loudly in the primeval dark above the still waters in order to bring forth all creation by its voice.

New Kingdom artwork shows Bennu as a huge grey heron with a long beak and a two-feathered crest. Sometimes Bennu is depicted as perched on a benben stone (representing Ra and the name of the top stone of a pyramid) or in a willow tree (representing Osiris). Because of the connection with Osiris, Bennu sometimes wears the Atef crown, instead of the solar disk.

Possible Animal Model

In comparatively recent times, a large species of heron, now extinct, lived on the Arabian Peninsula. It shares many characteristics with Bennu. It may have been the animal after which Bennu was modeled by the ancient Egyptians during the New Kingdom.

Worship

Like Atum and Ra, the Bennu was probably worshipped in their cult center at Heliopolis.The deity also appears on funerary scarab amulets as a symbol of rebirth.

Connection To The Greek Phoenix

The Greek historian Herodotus, writing about Egyptian customs and traditions in the fifth century BC, wrote that the people at Heliopolis described the "phoenix" to him. They said it lived for 500 years before dying, resuscitating, building a funerary egg with myrrh for the paternal corpse, and carrying it to the temple of the Sun at Heliopolis.His description of the phoenix likens it to an eagle with red and gold plumage, reminiscent of the sun.

Long after Herodotus, the theme ultimately associated with the Greek phoenix, with the fire, pyre, and ashes of the dying bird developed in Greek traditions.

The name, "phoenix", could be derived from "Bennu" and its rebirth and connections with the sun resemble the beliefs about Bennu, however, Egyptian sources do not mention a death of the deity.

Chosen as scientific name of the bird

Remains of a giant, human-sized heron species, thought to have gone extinct around 1500 BC, have been discovered in the United Arab Emirates.That species may have been the animal model for the deity, Bennu, so archaeologist Dr. Ella Hoch from the Geological Museum at Copenhagen University named it the Bennu heron (Ardea bennuides).

Ichiro: We saw him in full before, but I just want to reiterate how they intentionally got rid of all the connections Ichi had to the bros within his clothing. From Jiro's blue on his sleeves, the zip up shirt they all shared, and having the iconic BB lettering not there anymore- it seems like they're trying to distance Ichi's character from being so bro centric. Maybe to show growth how he's going to be more independent? It's a bit odd because being dependent isn't Ichi's flaw, that's Jiro and Saburo's... Maybe it's to show how THEYRE distancing from HIM 🤔

Jiro: This hair change is such a W for Jiro fans!! It was unclear if he actually changed it in art prior but this is a W SUCH A W!!! I miss the white stripes on his shoulders for contrast reasons but he looks just like a more mature version of his old design. It looks like he's wearing the checkered shirt instead of wrapping it around his waist which is cuter and makes much more sense fdsafdsfds.

Saburo: He looks all grown up LOL The time skip is only supposed to be a few months from what I recall, so at most he's now 15 but imo I think they're keeping them to og ages tbh. The mustard is such a good look for him! The more pastel yellow and school uniform esc coat of his old design did a lot to keep him looking / feeling young so this new design feels like he's growing up to be more comfortable to be who he is ;_;

Samatoki: He looks just as hot and he's somehow showing even MORE skin despite having a jacket lmao. Those popping buttons I see you Toki fdsafdsaf. Again he looks less like a gangster / yakuza but I wonder if they're trying to lean into that look. He pretty. Real pretty...

Jyuto: Thoughts have pretty much stayed the same, it reads like an Extra Wardrobe outfit rather than something he'd wear on the daily. In the new arc did he stop wearing his uniform since the government shut down? Did he just say fuck the dress code? I do like the outfit, it makes him look a lil more sleazy LOL

Rio: Rio looks good he looks good!! I don't have much thoughts on him since I never really do but I still find it hilarious he has the same pants as his old outfit.

Ramuda: He looks excellent as always but I do agree with the original poster that I miss his blue :C I think the yellow makes him look really young and it kinda doesn't jive with me ??? I love the hat though he looks very very cute. Ramuda also has the best shoes in the cast and I appreciate they didn't change it.

Gentaro: Gentaro is so funny I think they legitimately just made his back cape longer?? He also got rid of the high collar undershirt, which probably symbolizes that he's hiding less of himself to his friends. I love Gen but I need to see him not in motion to see how well this outfit fits him. ATM I think the longer cape messes up his silhouette by making him seem like a rectangle.

Dice: I miss the trench coat!! I miss the trench coat!!! I don't care if it would be smelly I miss the trench coat !!! I think getting rid of the black parts on his collar and outside his sleeves kind of make him look too... normal??? Like idk, where's the spice!! Give him fingerless gloves or sm shit he needs SOMETHING to make him look less like just a guy :C He's cute but I think his old fit is >>>

Jakurai: He looks SOOOOO GOOOD. We've seen this in full before but he looks CUUUTEEE. Like I'm no Jakurai stan but hooo boy that coat does smthn to me. He looks looser, like he's gonna have some fun, maybe go to the mall or smthn he looks good !!!!! Anons brought up Jakurai removing his doctor coat as a symbolism for his savior complex going away and I think it's really cool !!! One of the best new fits imo.

Hifumi: I like his og outfit much better I'm sorry 😭😭😭 I think with Materno's main color being light grey, Jakurai being in white, Doppo being a light grey now, Hifu being that off white just makes him blend together with the other members. Maybe it's the fact that he's set against a white background but he just gets lost among the other two. Having the darker colors concentrated around his head / upper body helps though.

Doppo: I love him my baby I love him I lve nye my baby my vobeoteoy frmajwfmweoijfghuefuwafjewanjmisafkowafewoawfeaiow. I say from my last post: "He’s getting loose he’s getting silly he’s CRAZY DOPPO IN THE HOUSE !!!"

Sasara: I like the outfit on it's own but I kind of... hate how it's matching with Rosho. SasaRo enjoyers rejoice but I don't like how it doesn't allow Sasara (and Rosho in turn) be his own character. It was mainly an issue I had with Rosho but this new fit puts in on Sasara too, that it kind of forces you to look at him in the lense of his relationship with Rosho rather than who he is as a chara on it's own. Also they made him less colorful :CC The bowtie is super cute though I like it.

Rosho: Rosho does look cute but again I wish it wasn't so obviously a callback to his relationship with Sasara!! I do like the hair, it's very cute fdsafdsa. He looks a lot more comfortable and a lot more confident but I'm unsure if its due to character development or just for cool points. Rosho looks like he smells good

Rei: He's too grey 💀 TOO GREY !!! I think getting rid of the hat and glasses was such a downgrade it does not look very good. It's a lot of my issues with Hifu's outfit without actually having a good clothing design to make up for it. I think it's nice how it could possibly be a call back to Kazuma Kiryu but that doesn't really make up for it :/

Kuko: I was wrong his hair did not get shorter 💀💀💀 But he is INCREDIBLE !! IT'S VERY GOOD!!! I have nothing to complain / nitpick about I think it's very good. (one nitpick I guess FDSAFDS. His bright hair now seems a bit out of place against the darkness of his clothing. Maybe making the purple accent stripes blue or red would have made it better? Unsure though.

Jyushi: He looks very good but I wish they gave him more interesting pants they're very underwhelming compared to his incredible top!! Like imagine sm crazy shit like lace racing stripes, some peekaboo patterns in triangles at the bottom of his flares, it would be very cute !!!

Hitoya: Very cute, very good, a stark improvement from his original look I have nothing else to say fdskafdasfdsa. Again, a 35 year old baby.

I think for some of the characters the outfits really really really really work (Doppo, Hitoya, Jakurai) but for a lot of them I think their original looks were much more iconic and much more fitting to themselves (Dice, Sasara, Rei). I hope we still get content put out with their original outfits because I'd legitimately be sad to never see Dice in his trench coat again :C

Orchid Collection from Cranberry Glades. From May through September, the high elevation sphagnum bogs and spruce-northern hardwood forests of the Allegheny Mountains produce a steady stream of terrestrial orchids. Prime time orchid season around Cranberry Glades is mid-June through early July, when the showiest orchids hit their peak. As a note, many of these orchids are wetlands-dependent and are endangered or threatened throughout much of their range due to habitat loss.

From top: grass pink (Calopogon tuberosus), unusual among orchids in that its lip is at the top of the flower, making it appear upside down; rose pogonia (Pogonia ophioglossoides), also known as snakemouth orchid due to its elaborate lower lip with pink and yellow-tinged teeth; downy rattlesnake plantain (Goodyera pubescens), a shade-tolerant woodland orchid that was just beginning to send up its flowering stalks; Round-leaved rein orchid (Platanthera orbiculata), or dinner-plate orchid, another terrestrial woodland orchid; large purple-fringed orchid (Platanthera grandiflora), or greater purple-fringed bog orchid, a tall, showy wetlands lover with a special fondness for damp seeps that get full or dappled sunlight; northern tubercled bog orchid (Platanthera flava), or pale green orchid, whose tiny flowers are distinguished by conspicuous bumps (tubercles) on their lower lips; and lily-leaved twayblade (Liparis liliifolia), a very unusual orchid whose flowers mimic the color of carrion to lure flies, which pollinate them.

Which was fine when I only had one Ken, I don't count the myscene or flavas guys as Kens, but is not much to choose from now that I have four.

Bi Kidude

Bi Kidude was an institution in Zanzibar, and East Africa’s greatest musical legend. The diva of Zanzibar taarab, she also played other musical styles including more ngoma-based unyago and msondo.

Her real name has been described as Fatma Baraka Khamis or Bi Fatuma Binti Baraka. She grew up in a family of seven in the Zanzibari village of Mfagimarigo. Her father was a coconut seller.

Bi Kidude’s exact date of birth was unknown, much of her life story was uncorroborated, giving her an almost mythical status. Kidude started out her musical career in the 192s, and learned many of her songs with Siti bint Saad. She performed in countries all around Europe, Middle East and Japan and finally recorded her first solo album (Zanzibar, Retroafric Recordings) in 1994, while in her mid-eighties. She also released a second locally-produced album (Machozi ya Huba, Heartbeat Records) with her traditional drums influencing the burgeoning Zenji Flava local hip-hop scene in one of the most remarkable juxtapositions of musical style in modern World Music.

Since fleeing a forced marriage at the age of 13 and escaping her homeland of Zanzibar, Bi Kidude led an extraordinary and varied career as a drummer, singer, henna artist and natural healer. Her first journey was to the mainland of Tanzania, where she walked the length and breadth of the country barefoot.

With renewed confidence and a new attitude to tradition (by now Kidude had thrown off her veil and shaved her head!) she returned, slowly to Zanzibar where she acquired a small clay house in the 194s and settled down to life grounded in the traditional roots of society.

Bi Kidude was part of the Unyago movement, which prepares young Swahili women for their transition through puberty and excelled at the art of henna designing for young brides, manufacturing her own wanja application from age old recipes fit ‘to make a rainbow shine.’ Bi Kidude performed traditional unyago music and was the island’s leading exponent of this ancient dance ritual, performed exclusively for teenage girls, which uses traditional rhythms to teach women to pleasure their husbands, while lecturing against the dangers of sexual abuse and oppression.

Her many talents were acknowledged by Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) at the second Festival of the Dhow Countries in 1999, when she was awarded Lifetime Achievement Award for Contribution to the Arts.

Bi Kidude’s is a remarkable story, one which challenges our perception of age, and of the role of women in Islam. She never conformed to the media stereotype of a Muslim woman ever since she removed her veil. To see a ninety-something year old Muslim woman drink, smoke, flirt, dance and drum was a unique experience. To witness the transformation as she reversed the aging process and changes from a wrinkled granny into a vital shining star was nothing short of revolutionary.

In the summer of 2004 Bi Kidude toured Europe with Zanzibar’s illustrious Culture Musical Club taarab orchestra. Midway through this tour, the whole of Zanzibar was thrown into shock and disarray when a rumor spread fast through the island that Bi Kidude had died. From the narrow streets of Stone Town to the bazaars of N’gambo and throughout the villages this was the only topic of conversation as the island rapidly acquired the atmosphere of mourning. This rumor continued to spread even long after the offices of Busara Promotions had disseminated confirmation from Bi Kidude’s European promoters that on the contrary, she was alive and very well. She was surprised to hear that people in Zanzibar think that she has died:

“Sijafa bado. Labda sababu watu hawajaonana nami sasa karibu mwezi. Lakini bado tunaendelea na safari na bado safari ndefu ya miezi miwili. Lakini sijambo, sina wasiwasi miye. Kuimba naimba na nguvu zote ambazo ninazo ili watu wafurahi.”

“I haven’t died yet. Maybe people are saying that because they haven’t seen me around for almost a month. But we are still continuing our tour which lasts for two more months. Me, I’m well, I have no problem. Me I sing with all my strength and continue to make people happy.”

Music Genres

This is a listing of some of the arena's song genre and their definitions.

African Folk - Music held to be typical of a state or ethnic organization, regarded to all segments of its society, and preserved generally by using oral way of life.

Afro jazz - Refers to jazz tune which has been heavily stimulated by means of African track. The music took factors of marabi, swing and American jazz and synthesized this into a unique fusion. The first band to honestly attain this synthesis was the South African band Jazz Maniacs.

Afro-beat - Is a combination of Yoruba tune, jazz, Highlife, and funk rhythms, fused with African percussion and vocal patterns, popularized in Africa inside the Nineteen Seventies.

Afro-Pop - Afropop or Afro Pop is a term every so often used to consult cutting-edge African pop music. The term does now not discuss with a particular style or sound, however is used as a preferred term to explain African famous track.

Apala - Originally derived from the Yoruba human beings of Nigeria. It is a percussion-based totally fashion that advanced inside the late 1930s, when it changed into used to wake worshippers after fasting all through the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Assiko - is a famous dance from the South of Cameroon. The band is generally based totally on a singer followed with a guitar, and a percussionnist playing the pulsating rhythm of Assiko with metallic knives and forks on an empty bottle.

Batuque - is a song and dance style from Cape Verde.

Bend Skin - is a kind of city Cameroonian famous song. Kouchoum Mbada is the maximum famous group related to the style.

Benga - Is a musical style of Kenyan popular track. It advanced among the past due Nineteen Forties and past due Sixties, in Kenya's capital town of Nairobi.

Biguine - is a style of tune that originated in Martinique within the nineteenth century. By combining the traditional bele track with the polka, the black David Turner Music of Martinique created the biguine, which contains 3 wonderful styles, the biguine de salon, the biguine de bal and the biguines de rue.

Bikutsi - is a musical genre from Cameroon. It developed from the traditional kinds of the Beti, or Ewondo, humans, who live across the city of Yaounde.

Bongo Flava - it has a mixture of rap, hip hop, and R&B for starters however these labels don't do it justice. It's rap, hip hop and R&B Tanzanian style: a large melting pot of tastes, records, culture and identification.

Cadence - is a specific collection of periods or chords that ends a word, section, or piece of music.

Calypso - is a style of Afro-Caribbean tune which originated in Trinidad at approximately the begin of the twentieth century. The roots of the genre lay in the arrival of African slaves, who, not being allowed to talk with each other, communicated through tune.

Chaabi - is a popular song of Morocco, very much like the Algerian Rai.
