Spider-Man Visits Starbucks in 'Homecoming' Prank Video
Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s Peter Parker has to maintain his high school GPA in between superhero scuffles — so clearly, dude needs a lot of caffeine. This fun new viral video imagines just how Spidey might go about getting his coffee, by pranking unsuspecting customers at a New York City Starbucks. A masked man descending upside-down from the ceiling is enough to give anybody a fright, but it sure is funny to watch. The most amazing part of the video, though: the baristas get Spider-Man’s name right every single time. Watch it above.
Though it doesn’t feature star Tom Holland, the video is an official promotion for Homecoming — the dead giveaway being a Stan Lee cameo toward the end. Holland, who made his debut as Spidey in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, stars as a teenage Peter Parker learning the superhero ropes from Tony “Iron Man” Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). His skills are tested with the appearance of a new threat to New York City, the villain Vulture (Michael Keaton). Fortunately, he has the support of his best pal Ned (Jacob Batalon) and his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei). Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters on July 7.

Tom Holland Dances on the 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Set in New Instagram Post
Screen capture from new ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ peek from the set (Jon Watts/Instagram)
We already know that Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Tom Holland has trampoline skills that put his Avengers teammate Chris Hemsworth to shame. And we also know that he and co-star Zendaya were more than up to the Typo YouTube challenge. But now, we have definitive proof that when it comes to dancing, no one can match Marvel’s new Spider-Man for sheer floor-spinning, hip-shaking moves.
Yeah but @therussobrothers can Thanos do THIS?
A video posted by Jon Watts (@jnwtts) on Sep 11, 2016 at 1:00pm PDT
In a new video (watch it above) posted to director John Watts’ Instagram page, we see a CGI-rendered Spider-Man who definitely thinks he can dance. It’s a small snippet captured on a screen — but then Watts’ camera pans up to show us what else is going on: Holland performing the sequence himself while wearing a motion-capture suit on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Related: Twitter Reveals New ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Villain (Spoilers!)
Watts calls out his Marvel directing compatriots Joe and Anthony Russo in the post, asking “Yeah but @therussobrothers can Thanos do THIS?” — a clear reference to the recent snapshot of Josh Brolin (aka Thanos) hanging out in his own motion-capture outfit while prepping for Avengers: Infinity War. And whether or not Spidey and Thanos ever have a big-screen dance-off, we can be sure that, at least from a technical point of view, Holland’s moves are superior to those of Toby Maguire, as seen in Spider-Man 3’s polarizing dance sequence.

'Spider-Man' Star Tom Holland Admits Love for 'Just Friends' and Ambition to Play James Bond
yahoo
Although Tom Holland is the third actor to throw on the Spidey suit this century, he’s already won over the hearts of fans. Following his scene-stealing drop-in to last summer’s Captain America: Civil War, he is earning raves for his first standalone entry, Spider-Man: Homecoming. (Also for that bold Lip Sync Battle performance…)
In our rapid-fire 15 Questions interview (watch above), we got to know Holland a wee bit more, particularly when it came to his own movie tastes.
While he has caught some flak for owning up that he’s never seen the original Star Wars trilogy, he can does hold some Jedi cred for The Phantom Menace (we think) being the first movie he saw in a theater.
He calls the Edward Norton thriller Primal Fear his favorite movie of all time, and the Ryan Reynolds comedy Just Friends his guilty pleasure. “It’s my mom and I’s favorite Christmas movie,” said Holland, who added he’s probably seen it 20 times.
And beyond his arc as the world’s most famous web-crawler, there’s another screen icon Holland is itching to play someday: “James Bond. Let’s make it happen!”

'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Stars Present a Dramatic Reading of the 'Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man' Theme Song Lyrics
yahoo
Look out, here comes a Spider-Man! Swinging into theaters on July 7, Spider-Man: Homecoming is the first solo adventure starring new wall-crawler Tom Holland, who impressed fans with his debut as part of last year’s Captain America: Civil War. Even though Homecoming marks a new era for Spidey, the movie still takes the time to honor the character’s rich history. Case in point: the immortal theme song from the beloved ’60s Spider-Man cartoon series provides the fanfare for the Marvel Studios logo at the top of the Jon Watts-directed film.
While generations of fans can sing the lyrics on demand almost as a reflex, younger audiences may not be as well-versed in what comes after “He’s got radioactive blood.” We asked the young stars of Homecoming — including Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Laura Harrier — to help out by providing a dramatic interpretation of the vintage theme. Watch the video above to see the hilarious results. Musical action is your reward.
For your reference, here’s the complete original ‘Spider-man’ cartoon theme song:

Tom Holland Talks 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Spoilers! Tidbits on That Ending and 'Avengers: Infinity War'
yahoo
Warning: This post contains big spoilers for the final scene of Spider-Man: Homecoming. If you haven’t seen the movie and don’t want to know, pause the clip above and stop reading!
In its closing moments, Spider-Man: Homecoming boldly goes where no Spider-Man movie has gone before: Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) discovers that her dorky nephew, Peter Parker (Tom Holland), is New York’s No. 1 wall-crawler. It’s a scene that fans have long wished to see, but Holland is already eager to put that particular genie back in the bottle. “I am so desperate to try and turn that into a cosplay thing,” the actor tells Yahoo Movies. “The fact that he thinks she doesn’t know he’s Spider-Man is a really important part of the character. I’m going to try and figure out a way to convince her otherwise.” Yeah… good luck with that, buddy. (Watch our full video interview above.)
May’s discovery of Peter’s double life may not have been part of his grand plan, but it was a deliberate choice made by Homecoming screenwriters, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, two of the six credited scribes on the film. “That was something we always wanted, because we liked the idea of his secret getting out of control,” Daley explained to us in a separate interview. “More and more people that he cares about finding out and how that affects him.” In fact, during the writing process, they discussed a version where he takes a page out of his mentor Tony Stark’s playbook and almost reveals his identity to the world. “What he realizes is that there is a virtue in being a secret identity and how he kind of has the advantage in many ways over his other superhero buddies,” remarks Daley.
And Spider-Man’s circle of superhero buddies is about to get a lot bigger. Holland has been videotaped on the set of Marvel‘s massive team-up adventure Avengers: Infinity War standing between Robert “Iron Man” Downey Jr. and Chris “Star-Lord” Pratt. Asked how Peter reacts to meeting Rocket Raccoon, the actor neatly swings over the question. “I don’t meet Rocket Raccoon, I don’t think. I haven’t read the script! I don’t get to read the script, because I’m so bad at keeping secrets.”
Aunt May would have to agree.

'Spider-Man' Cast on Peter Parker as Tony Stark Protege, High School Peer in 'Homecoming'
yahoo
In his past cinematic adventures, Spider-Man generally goes it alone. But in Spider-Man: Homecoming, out July 7, both he and his alter ego — science nerd Peter Parker — have some pretty amazing friends, some of whom will be instantly familiar to regular visitors to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For example, Captain America: Civil War established the mentorship between Peter and Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) that continues in Homecoming.
“It’s a funny relationship,” Tom Holland tells Yahoo Movies about the evolving dynamic between the wall-crawler and the shell-head. “All of a sudden we’re getting to see [Tony] have responsibility for someone else other than himself. It’s quite an interesting dynamic between the two of them, but also a very funny one.” (Watch our video interview with Holland above.)
Peter’s rolodex of friends isn’t limited to adult superheroes. He’s also got a BFF his own age in the form of fellow geek Ned (Jacob Batalon).  “I think the sidekick makes the number one look good,” Batalon says about Ned’s importance to this dynamic duo. So does that mean he’s the real hero of Homecoming? “There’s moments where it’s a clear-cut answer,” he says, laughing.

Tom Holland Admits He Has Way Too Many Spider-Man Toys, Sleeps in Spidey Blanket
yahoo
Tom Holland literally wraps himself up in his work. “I have loads of Spider-Man blankets, they’re so soft,” says the 21-year-old actor. It’s a ringing endorsement from the star of July’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, who assumed the mantel of Peter Parker in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War and thus has a very personal connection with the latest merchandise, as he revealed in a recent Facebook Live interview (watch it above) with Yahoo Movies. “I cuddle myself when I sleep,” he joked (we think). “I’m a method actor.”
The London native conceded he’s overwhelmed by the sheer amount of Spidey swag. “The craziest thing is actually walking through Target,” he said when asked if it’s still surreal to think he’s playing one of the most iconic superheroes in comic book/movie history. “Target [stores] have aisles and aisles and aisles dedicated to Spider-Man. I don’t look at Spider-Man and go, ‘Oh look, there’s me.’ Because that’s crazy to think. But now that I start to see these Spider-Man [collectibles] in my costume, it’s now starting to really sink in that I am Spider-Man.”
Holland also admitted he buys Spider-Man merch all the time, which might explain why his bedroom in the flat he recently purchased has become overrun by webcrawlers. “We have loads of figures. My family now, when it comes to my birthday, they’re like, ‘Oh, we’ll just get him something Spider-Man.’
“And I’m so sick of Spider-Man toys. Literally [in] my room, I must have about 15 different Spider-Man toys just dotted around my room. It’s weird, I wake up and I feel like I’m being watched by myself.”
Spider-Man: Homecoming opens July 7.

'Spider-Man: Homecoming': Tom Holland Wants New Peter Parker to Be His Generation's Marty McFly
yahoo
The team behind Spider-Man: Homecoming has long discussed how they approached July’s reboot of the Peter Parker origin story like a John Hughes teen comedy. Director Jon Watts and star Tom Holland told Yahoo Movies about their neo-classic inspirations last year at San Diego Comic-Con, and during a Facebook Live interview with us last week, Holland rattled off a number of titles Watts had suggested he screen before filming: Pretty in Pink, Back to the Future, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
The only entry in that batch not written or directed by Hughes was Back to the Future, but it is the one that appears to have resonated the deepest with Holland.
“My goal was to try and kind of be our generation’s Marty McFly,” Holland said of the vest-sporting time traveler so memorably portrayed by Michael J. Fox in the 1985 favorite and its two sequels. “That was what my all-time goal was.”
And like Back to the Future brought heart and charisma to a story that transcended its spiffy sci-fi bells and whistles, Holland is hoping Homecoming will have the same effect.
“I think one of the best things about this movie is if you stripped away all the Spider-Man scenes, there’s a really solid movie there without the superhero aspect, about Peter growing up, going to school, struggling,” he said. “So it’s a nice balance between superhero and kid at high school.”

How Chris Hemsworth Helped Tom Holland Land Spider-Man Role
yahoo
Tom Holland had a friend in a high place when it came to auditioning for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Specifically, Asgard.
In 2013, Holland bonded with Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, as the pair endured the shared experience of suffering through 500-calorie-per-day diets to play shipwrecked whalers in Ron Howard’s 2015 historical drama In the Heart of the Sea. So the young British actor used his Aussie mate as a reference when he went out for the role of Spider-Man, who would cameo in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War before getting his own standalone reboot with this summer’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.
“I sent him an email while auditioning, sort of like, ‘Hey, Chris, so I’m auditioning for Spider-Man. Can you let them know that I’m amazing or something?'” Holland recalled to us in a Facebook Live interview. “And he replied like, ‘Hey, mate. Yeah I’ll let them know that you never learned your lines, you’re late all the time, and you’re terrible at your job.’ I was like, ‘Thanks, Chris.'”
Obviously, Hemsworth was taking the piss out of his young friend, and their brotherly rivalry has expanded to social media in the years since, where Holland once challenged Hemsworth to a stunt-off on Instagram.
But it’s all in good humor. As Holland noted genuinely, “Apparently he put in a lovely word” to Marvel. And while it’s unlikely the pair will share any screen time in their solo adventures this year (after Homecoming hits in July, Hemsworth has Thor: Ragnarok opening in November), at least we know the two buds will be reassembling for 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War.
Spider-Man Homecoming opens July 7.

'Spider-Man' Star Tom Holland Admits He Hasn't Actually Seen that Really Old Movie 'Empire Strikes Back'
yahoo
Spider-Man made an unforgettable entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe when he sprung into action in last summer’s Captain America: Civil War. The wunderkind hero played by breakout star Tom Holland proved a resourceful ally for Team Iron Man in the Avenger-vs.-Avenger clash on an airport tarmac. Spidey also irritated his elders when, about to take down Giant Man with a vintage cinematic move borrowed from the Star Wars canon, asked his fellow crimefighters if they’d ever seen “that really old movie The Empire Strikes Back.”
Holland, as it turns out, has not. “I haven’t seen The Empire Strikes Back, I’m not gonna lie,” the 20-year-old London native admitted to us at the recent press day for his new action-drama, The Lost City of Z.
The charming actor, who in July headlines the wall-crawler reboot Spider-Man: Homecoming, explained that he’s generally not a huge Star Wars fan, though he has enjoyed the most recent entries, Rogue One and The Force Awakens. “I thought that was dope,” he said of 2015’s Episode VII. “I really am a fan of those, I thought they were great fun.”
Exemplifying the generation gap between Stars Wars fans young and old, Holland also admitted he has not yet watched any of George Lucas’s original trilogy — 1977’s A New Hope, 1981’s Empire, 1983’s Return of the Jedi (“For some reason I skipped the original Star Wars, I don’t know why and I’m very embarrassed”) — but he has seen the prequels.
“And I’m even more embarrassed to say that I love those movies when I was a kid. Everyone’s like, ‘What? You liked those movies?!'” Holland said of Lucas’s divisive Episodes I-III (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith) released between 1999 and 2005. “But I thought they were great.”
Told this is why old folks like us don’t trust millennials raised on Lucas’s inferior Star Wars films, Holland conceded: “You know, we’re a terrible generation.”
The Lost City of Z opens April 14. Watch the trailer:

'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Star Tom Holland Nixes Any Chance of Romance Between Tony Stark and Aunt May
yahoo
With Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) seemingly out of the picture, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) was a bachelor again in last summer’s Captain America: Civil War. And don’t tell us you didn’t see some sparks between Iron Man and Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), the guardian to the Avenger leader’s new protégé Peter Parker (Tom Holland). “It’s so hard for me to believe that she’s someone’s aunt,” Stark told his recruit.
Both Downey and Tomei return in July’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, so we wondered if a coupling might be in store when we talked to Holland and the film’s director Jon Watts Monday night at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. While Watts was intentionally vague (“I think there’s always a chance when you have Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr.”), Holland, bless his heart, gave it to us straight.
“No,” the 20-year-old star said matter-of-factly. “No, no, no, no. I thought after Civil War that maybe that could happen, but not anymore.”
Marvel fans generally didn’t take too kindly to the thought of Tony and May becoming an item, likely because of A) loyalty to Pepper and B) the comic-book Aunt May is traditionally a much older, grieving widow. Let us remind them, however, that in the rebooted Spider-Man universe, Tony and May are practically the same age. (In real life, Tomei is only five months older and has a previous cinematic history with Downey in the 1994 romance Only You.)
For now though, Pepper Potts loyalists can rest easy.
Spider-Man: Homecoming opens July 7.

Check Out Iron Man's New 'Spider-Man Homecoming' Armor Thanks to New Action Figure Pics
Tumblr media
  (Marvel)
We know Tony Stark gives Peter Parker a Spidey suit upgrade for Spider-Man: Homecoming; turns out, Stark has also been busy tweaking Iron Man’s costume in time for the forthcoming film. Although we got a brief glimpse of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) zooming into action alongside the wall-crawler (Tom Holland) at the end of the trailer released in December, there hasn’t been a clear look at the latest iteration of Stark’s battle armor until now. Hasbro, which has been busy releasing images of its upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe toys ahead of next week’s New York Toy Fair, has revealed the new-look Iron Man as part of its Marvel Legends line of highly detailed 6-inch action figures.

In addition to the multipack, there will be solo 6-inch Legends figures featuring variations on Spider-Man’s suit, including his low-budget homemade outfit and his web-winged costume, as well as Michael Keaton’s villainous Vulture sans wings. The individual figures will be in stories this spring for $19.99 apiece; each package will include pieces that will form the previously announced winged Vulture build-a-figure.

'Spider-Man: Homecoming': Tony Stark's Spider-Suit Upgrades Revealed
Tumblr media
(Sony/Marvel/AMC)
As we learned in last month’s trailer, Peter Parker gets a souped-up spider-suit for this summer’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, courtesy of Tony Stark. Now, thanks to a promotional Facebook video from AMC Theaters pegged to this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas (watch it below), we have a better idea of what Stark’s “minor upgrades” consist of.
Related: Spidey Takes Down Avengers, Faces Off With Vulture in First ‘Homecoming’ Trailer
The most obvious enhancement was on display in the December clip: the web wings. A nod to the earliest models of Spidey’s costume, the wings give our friendly neighborhood superhero a boost when gliding from tall buildings, like, say, the Washington Monument.
There are also new web shooters, featuring selectable web types depending on need, as well as a laser targeting system.
Tumblr media
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will deploy upgraded web shooters (Sony/Marvel/AMC)
(The mechanical shooters align with the comic book version and are a departure from the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man, who developed the controversial ability to shoot organic webs from his wrists after getting fanged by that radioactive arachnid.)
The suit also features a GPS tracking system (the countdown is on for the Waze tie-in) with a holographic wrist display — i.e., the glowing Spidey symbol revealed during the end credits of Captain America: Civil War and another nod to the comics.

Finally, Spider-Man’s mask comes equipped with oh-so-expressive eyes for conveying the gamut of teen emotions.

Spider-Man: Homecoming, starring Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), and Michael Keaton (Vulture), and directed by Jon Watts, spins into theaters on July 7.

10 Classic '80s and '90s Movies That Influence 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'
Tumblr media
Tom Holland and Jacob Batalon in Spider-Man: Homecoming (Photo: Sony Pictures)
Warning: This post contains spoilers for key scenes and plot points of Spider-Man: Homecoming.
If you’re a Marvel Comics fan, Spider-Man: Homecoming is a veritable gold mine of Easter eggs from the wall-crawler’s 55-year-and-counting career of catching thieves just like flies. At the same time, it’s equally rich with homages to popular teen movies from the ’80s and ’90s. Even before the film went into production, Marvel Studios chief, Kevin Feige, made a point of describing it as a “John Hughes movie,” directly name-checking the writer and director responsible for so many of that era’s high school classics.
In separate interviews with Yahoo Movies, star Tom Holland explained that director Jon Watts gave the young cast a must-watch list of classic movies to watch before shooting began, while Homecoming  co-writer John Francis Daley elaborated on the Spidey-Hughes connection. “What John Hughes was best at was finding the funny in the relatable… and to keep Peter as a truly normal, grounded, relatable person I think is really set him apart from all the other versions of Spider-Man that people have seen.” Homecoming‘s cinematic influences do extend beyond Hughes, though. Here’s a list of 10 teen favorites that are overtly, or subtly, referenced by Spider-Man and his amazing friends.
Tumblr media
Matthew Broderick in ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ (Photo: Everett Collection)
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986) This one is kind of a gimme; while in hot pursuit of the Vulture’s henchmen, poor Peter Parker (Tom Holland) has to forego his usual web-slinging action due to the fact that he’s in that dreaded low-rise territory known as suburbia. Crashing through backyard after backyard, he passes a pool party where Matthew Broderick’s own climactic backyard chase from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is playing out on a TV screen. “Great movie,” Peter calls out as he continues on to the next yard. (Wonder if he considers Ferris Bueller to be as ancient a film as The Empire Strikes Back?) That scene is a perfect example of our challenge to take Spider-Man out of a world where he’s comfortable,” director Watts told Yahoo Movies. “If you put him in the suburbs where there’s nothing tall to swing from, what does he do? It was a great opportunity to put him in an awkward situation.”
Tumblr media
Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy in ‘The Breakfast Club’ (Photo: Universal/courtesy Everett Collection)
The Breakfast Club (1985) At a press conference in June, Zendaya revealed that Ally Sheedy’s proto-Goth girl, Allison Reynolds, is a direct ancestor of her Homecoming character, Michelle “M.J.” Jones. And the two do have a lot in common, including a quiet manner that masks a caustic wit, as well as a flair for epic side-eye and eye-rolls. In fact, Michelle is glimpsed sitting in detention alongside Peter — the Anthony Michael Hall of her school — in one memorable Homecoming scene, despite the fact that she’s not even supposed to be there. Speaking with the press, Zendaya made it clear that she hopes modern teens take away the same lesson from Michelle that their parents learned from Allison, namely that: “It’s OK to be weird. If you make things awkward and uncomfortable, that’s cool. I love that Michelle’s outspoken and says what everyone’s thinking, but she just doesn’t care.”
Tumblr media
William Zabka and Ralph Macchio in ‘The Karate Kid’ (Photo: Mary Evans/Ronald Grant/Everett Collection)
The Karate Kid (1984) He may not pledge allegiance to Cobra Kai, but Flash Thompson (Tony Revolori) is totally the Johnny Lawrence to Peter’s Daniel LaRusso. Whether calling him “Penis Parker” (itself an indirect shout-out to another ’80s classic, E.T.) or engaging in some decidedly unsportsmanlike trash talk during Academic Decathlon training sessions, Flash is always eager to humiliate his rival on the most public stage possible. But Peter, like LaRusso before him, scores the final knockout, hijacking Flash’s car and leaving him by the side of the road with his homecoming date. Revolori, who previously played the hero of Wes Anderson’s acclaimed 2014 film, The Grand Budapest Hotel, has said that he enjoyed breaking bad in Homecoming, especially since the movie doesn’t make an issue about his race. “The fact that there’s not a single line of exposition to explain why I look the way I look. I’m just in the movie. It’s not about being a certain race, and I think that’s the kind of diversity we need in Hollywood right now.”
yahoo
Can’t Hardly Wait (1998) If only Peter had re-watched this nostalgic ’90s favorite before heading over to Liz Allan’s shindig, he would have realized that a high school house party is the absolute worst place to try and impress the girl you’ve been crushing on for years. Sure enough, his plan to swing in and make a big splash as Spider-Man is thwarted by an unplanned side mission involving the Shocker. Can’t Hardly Wait‘s Preston (Ethan Embry) is similarly unable to persuade his dream girl, Amanda (Jennifer Love Hewitt), of his affection due to a series of increasingly crazy circumstances. According to Daley, an early version of the storyline involved Peter hosting the party instead of Liz, but is similarly prevented from joining the festivities in costume. “All the cool kids from school burst into his bedroom while he’s gone and just start going through all his s—t, like all the toys he still kept.” Adds Daley’s co-writer, Jonathan Goldstein: “That’s very Hughes-ian, like the characters Anthony Michael Hall used to play. The kid who’s too old to still be doing this stuff.”
Tumblr media
Anthony Michael Hall, Kelly LeBrock, Ilan Mitchell-Smith in ‘Weird Science’ (Photo: Universal Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection)
Weird Science (1985) We should probably be glad that geek buddies Peter and Ned (Jacob Batalon) are only applying their serious science and tech skills to making web fluid and hacking Tony Stark-designed super-suits. Otherwise, they might go and do something really weird…like building a cyber-girlfriend who steps out of the computer and into reality. Here’s another fun connection between Weird Science and Homecoming: Robert Downey Jr. is a big ol’ spoilsport in both. Back in ’85, he dropped a red Icee on dorks Gary and Wyatt, and 32 years later, he drops a bomb on Peter by taking away the teen’s Spider-Man suit after his Staten Island Ferry mishap.

Pretty in Pink (1986) High school law eschews the designated dork from taking the pretty girl to the big school dance. But Hughes went and upset the natural order of things by having Duckie (Jon Cryer) swoop in and rescue his best friend and longtime crush object, Andie (Molly Ringwald) from being stood up at the prom by status-conscious Blane (Andrew McCarthy). Truthfully, it was a bridge too far for audiences at the time, who demanded that the ending be reshot with the pretty girls and the popular guy walking off into a happily ever after. For a brief moment, though, Duckie got to be the hero who gets the girl, a geek dream that Peter gets to live out when he asks the significantly more popular Liz to the homecoming dance and she says yes. For better or for worse, he ultimately loses the girl to her villainous dad rather than a petty prepster.

Back to the Future (1985) No sooner has he gotten to Hill Valley High’s “Enchantment Under the Sea” dance than Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) has to ditch his date — and future Mom — Lorraine (Lea Thompson) in order to take care of some pressing time travel business. Peter isn’t able to bust a move at his school’s homecoming soiree either, regretfully abandoning Liz on the dance floor in order to thwart her Vulture father’s plot to raid Tony Stark’s airborne storage locker. At least Marty gets to invent rock and roll during his time brief time at the Hill Valley dance; Peter has to bail before he can show off how he can out-Rihanna Rihanna.

Jennifer Connelly and Frank Whaley skate the night away in Career Opportunities (Photo: Universal Pictures)
Career Opportunities (1991) Peter Parker isn’t the only nerd lucky enough to spend a night locked in a facility with Jennifer Connelly. This John Hughes-scripted comedy traps awkward outcast Jim (Frank Whaley) and knockout Josie (Connelly) in a Target store after closing time, where they have to contend with their wildly different backgrounds, as well as a pair of bungling burglars. Midway through Homecoming, Spider-Man’s attempt to foil a Vulture robbery lands him in deep storage inside the U.S. Department of Damage Control, with only his “suit lady,” a.k.a. his in-suit A.I. K.A.R.E.N. (voiced by the Beautiful Mind Oscar winner), for company. We’ll leave it to you to decide whether Target for the Damage Control storage locker has better toys.

Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985) Not a teen movie, you say? Perhaps that’s true, but Tim Burton’s feature filmmaking debut is nevertheless an ’80s classic for young kids and teenagers alike. Besides, it can’t be accidental that Spider-Man’s first big victory in Homecoming involves stopping a bicycle thief. And he doesn’t even have to leave Queens to do it! Poor Pee-wee Herman has to travel all the way to Texas to recover his beloved two-wheeled ride. Here’s an eye-popping face-off we want to see in the Homecoming sequel: Spider-Man vs. Large Marge.

'Spider-Man: Homecoming': Tom Holland Reveals Secrets of the Spidey Costume
yahoo
Even a superhero like Spider-Man needs some super assistance with his wardrobe every now and then. And so, the Spidey suit you see onscreen in Spider-Man: Homecoming — which opens in theaters July 7 — has some digital touch-ups from some Marvel-ous effects wizards. “I’d say 90 percent of what you see onscreen is a practical suit, but it has been touched up and made to look beautiful,” says Tom Holland, who inherits the wall-crawler’s webs from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. The 21-year-old actor reveals to Yahoo Movies that a few different suits were used as well, including a motion-capture ensemble and baggier duds that were used for comedic effect. “The baggy suit was my favorite,” Holland remarks. “You looked like such an idiot.” (Watch our video interview above.)
For this lifelong Spider-Man fan, the chance to put on any Spidey suit — baggy or not — was a dream come true. “Spider-Man had a huge impact on me when I was a kid. This is a film for the fans, but also a film for kids. If I can have that same impact on kids, than I’m doing my job as a superhero.”
