i’ve actually been asked this before—here! 😋

my biggest recommendation will always be mind blind by jo o’connor, which—despite this blog being mostly wayhaven—is probably my favorite interactive fiction of all time. i find myself talking about it much more with friends on discord than posting about it on my blog, however, because it’s so criminally underrated and there’s very little active community for it on tumblr.

it’s still a WIP, but right now is the perfect time to jump on the mind blind train because it’s almost done! the endings are being written as we speak. i’ve been a patron of jo’s for a while, so i’ve had the privilege to playing almost to the end (i believe the public demo only goes to chapter 8), and wow. there’s so much i could talk about with this game, but tl;dr the writing is well done, it’s so witty and smart, and i love that it’s challenging without feeling punishing.

i’m currently playing fallen hero, and i love it, but it might be put on the back burner until the fall since i’m getting baldur’s gate 3 next week. i swear i go through interactive fics like sleeves of oreos during the school year while i’m loitering on campus, but my weekends summers get dedicated to tabletops and video games.

im revamping (😏) triss's whole chara arc as i go through this replay and honestly im thinking maybe she should hate rebecca a little more. as a treat. originally i had her relationship with rebecca as "good but distant" and her wanting to improve it.... which i think is still how their dynamic starts. but an intergral part of triss's backstory is that she DID encounter smth supernatural as a kid which traumatized her deeply and nobody believed her. and rebecca downplayed it as just triss's imagination and basically let the therapists deal w it instead. which was also a catalyst for her going off the rails later in life. so yeah finding out that her mother was in on the whole supernatural conspiracy this WHOLE time and basically gaslit her as a kid into believing she was crazy...... mm. i think im gonna let triss give her the silent treatment for at LEAST a book and a half to cope

Alright, alright, enough going on about myself (Although I’m an admittedly pretty interesting topic). I should get on to the juicy content you’ve probably been waiting for!

Your dearest Detective Nick’s report on Button (Should I get that trademarked? I should get it trademarked.)

I know you two talk every day but Button doesn’t even think to add all the important details about themselves. Like, for example, how they stole my motorcycle for themselves a few months ago and almost immediately started working on it. 

Sure, I might not use it at all, but I’m 80% certain I’m the one still paying insurance. And before you say anything, don’t worry Mom, I always make sure that they put on their helmet before they go crazy.

Aside from calling me Saint Nick, Jayce’s also gotten into the habit of calling me “Little” brother ever since they hit their growth spurt- just because they’re a few inches taller. He’s also insistent that he’s the more attractive one out of the two of us since he’s a little bulkier and has tattoos and piercings.

“People like tattoos,” He insists.

Oh! There was also this one night I was working late at Aeon so I told Button ‘bout where the leftovers were in the fridge.

Get this though, it’s the sweetest thing ever- and most definitely something Jayce hasn’t told you- but I came home and my little bro was asleep on the couch. More importantly, he made dinner! 

I’m wiping away a fake tear as I write this, just wanted you to know, Mom.

It’s getting late though and we’ve only got a week till Button has their first day at Unity, so I should go get started on dinner and keep Jayce all fueled up, especially when they’ve been busy taking their worries out on poor punching bags at the kickboxing center downtown.
