⚠️AVOID NESTLE ⚠️
Nestle is one of the biggest companies in the world, selling a wide range of products such as water, baby formula, baby food, sweets/candy, ice cream, meals, and so much more.
They benefit off the work of slaves, especially child slaves, they have ruined places in the poorer sides of Africa that have running water so the locals have to rely on their bottled water, the ceo is quoted in saying "water is not a human right", their water branch has been responsible for droughts in places like California and Flint, Michigan, they pump over 700 gallons/2649 litres of water from reserves and communities. They even have the nickname "baby killer" because they are responsible for the deaths of around 66,000 babies, possibly/probably more, because of scheme in the 70s-80s where they claimed breast milk is bad for babies and even paid of doctors to endorse them, they gave free baby formula to mothers but the supply was only big enough for the amount of feeds it would take for the mothers milk to dry up, meaning by the end of the supply they would have no choice but to buy the formula. A lot of these mothers didn't have access to clean water, so they had to use unsanitary water and a lot of babies died because of this.

it would be awesome if we could buy less from these brands, and encourage friends and family to do the same :)
instead of buying from these brands, try:
buying from local brands/small businesses
buy from store brands: most grocery and box store chains have their own food brands that are more affordable than other name brands
buy from brands you know make ethical choices
make things homemade (some of the items on this list are things you can find recipes for online and learn to make yourself)

NESTLE IS A HUMAN RIGHTS DISASTER...
I don’t normally get political on my page, but it suddenly occurs to me that not everyone knows about what I’m about to go off on.
Today on FB this article about Nestle using slave labor in 2015 popped up in my feed:
https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/nestle-seafood-thailand-1.3331127?fbclid=IwAR3ypqQkQ9YOIZE7xz4E_JmEjOChO3EGRL7b6xKWy99BMLKE-80VfjerWUM
This was in 2015 and NO ONE talked about it. As stated in the above article, Nestle does submit a progress report every year since this fiasco to inform consumers on their journey to better their company. Aka- don’t be an asshole and use slave labor for your company—You know, something normal people inherently know how to do.
BUT IT’S A REPORT THAT THEY DRAFT AND PUBLISH THEMSELVES:
https://www.nestle.com/investors/annual-report
You really think I believe your BS? "Oh we're doing so much better now! We're no longer using slave labor and/or filling our pet food and human food with sub par ingredients that are unethically sourced! You can totally trust us! Our word is GOLDEN."
Unless they've got a secondary non-bias party (who can't be bought) submitting that report-- I don't fucking buy it.
Check out this lawsuit from 2018 that also no one talked about regarding child labor for their chocolate brands:
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-court-nestle/u-s-appeals-court-revives-nestle-child-slavery-lawsuit-idUSKCN1MX2UM
(Another source) https://www.business-humanrights.org/en/usa-class-action-lawsuit-filed-against-nestle-for-child-slavery-on-cocoa-harvest-in-west-african-farms
Ya know whats real interesting about the above case? It was suspiciously dismissed. Why? Well, Because Nestle never said that the chocolate wasn’t a product of child labor-- so its not like they lied.
https://www.business-humanrights.org/en/usa-federal-court-dismisses-lawsuit-against-nestle-over-failure-to-disclose-the-alleged-child-labour-in-its-cocoa-supply-chain
Here is a section of the written report linked above which is particularly interesting:
Specifically, the court noted that plaintiff did not allege Nestlé made any false statements about child or slave labor on its packaging, “or that Nestlé’s omissions turned an affirmative representation into a misleading half-truth.” By selling chocolate, Nestlé is implying “the product is fit for human consumption.” This implication, the court reasoned, “does not on its own give rise to any misleading impression about how Nestlé or its suppliers treat their workers.”
Oh and the water you’re drinking form Nestle? One of their most current issues involves their bottled water brand, Poland Spring, in which there’s an allegation that their “Bottled Spring Water” is really just ground water.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-nestle-lawsuit-polandspring/nestle-to-face-lawsuit-saying-poland-spring-water-not-from-a-spring-u-s-judge-idUSKCN1R92TO
While we’re on the topic of water lets not forget when Nestle Chairmen Peter Brabeck (former CEO) dropped this little gem which he claims was “Taken out of context”:
He later clarified what he meant-- His revision of the statement is not that redeeming. You can watch the 1 minute video at the link below in which Brabeck says that your human right is only 30 liters of water. Everything past that is not your right. You have a right to no more than 5 liters of water for hydration and 25 liters of water for hygiene, according to Brabeck. Any more than that is excessive and is a luxury, not a right:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2P7lqDsle4
Many consumers know the issue with their petfood and the many lawsuits that arose from that-- BUT NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT ANY OF THESE HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES. The Purina chaos lead to people boycotting Purina, not Nestle. Because people are not aware that they’re the same company.
His words regarding water upset people enough to create a twitter handle and call for a boycott, but it was short lived.
And here’s the kicker folks-- THEY OWN SO MANY BRANDS THEY'RE PRACTICALLY UNAVOIDABLE.
Here have a list of companies all owned and run by Nestle:
