Friday, April 21: Halford, “Screaming in the Dark”
“Screaming in the Dark” was one of three new studio tracks tacked to the end of Live Insurrection, acting as something of a victory lap for the Halford band after the warm reception awarded to Resurrection. And as the only newly written studio number (the other two were refurbished from unused Priest demos), the tune was sort of a bridge between Resurrection and Crucible, leveraging the trad metal framework of the former with the increased bite of the latter. And with the chugging central riff over which Rob Halford literally screamed in the dark the entire time, it felt like a natural predecessor to Crucible’s “Betrayal”. Halford as a band wasn’t a commercial juggernaut, and years later Rob would claim that he only started it up to show his former colleagues in Priest he was ready to make traditional heavy metal again in hopes of them taking him back. This was unfair to the band, because the songs and performance were all there, and “Screaming in the Dark” was a killer banger in its own right.

VHS Archives #126: Metal Mike talks to the Quireboys (1993)
With the London Quireboys back in the new these days, it’s a good time to resurrect this interview from the Metal Mike Show with Spike and Guy Griffin. The year was 1993 and the Quireboys were out supporting their newest album Bitter Sweet & Twisted. This is just a quick clip regarding opening for big bands such as The Stones, Bowie and Aerosmith.
Unfortunately this is the last clip I have on…

Wishing The Metal Legions A "Happy Halloween" 2018
Last year, I had asked what the very favorite Horror films might be among a wide assortment of the musicians that I had met over the last few years while covering shows and special events. The fun disclosures can be reviewed HEREfor those who are new to our offerings and might have missed that when it first ran. Yesterday, I decided to do it again with some of the people that I didn’t get…

Friday, October 7: Halford, “The Mower”
“The Mower” was promising as a standalone track, but incredibly misleading as a preview for Made of Metal: the first new non-holiday Halford track in several years was a scorching and screeching bulldozer that showed no mercy, whereas the band’s fourth album was largely given to pandering in an attempt to license would-be sports theme songs. Then again, maybe this particular track was intended for gardening enthusiasts? If so, this was more menacing than anything Soilwork would’ve concocted, lurching with pure malice and forcefully reiterating Rob Halford’s stature as the one true Metal God. Likewise, Roy Z’s riffs were Chemical Wedding-level intense, and the entire Halford band synced with purpose. This was so much more powerful than anything we’d heard from Rob since he rejoined Priest, it was ultimately a bigger shock that its subsequent accompanying album was ultimately more than a little flat.

Let Us Prey veröffentlichen ihr Debüt
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Ordern kann man “Virtues Of The Vicious” hier: www.m-theoryaudio.com/store
“Virtues Of The Vicious” wurde von Nick Bellmore (Hatebreed, Toxic Holocaust, Five Finger Death Punch) und Pete Rutcho (Revocation, Havok, Bury Your Dead) aufgenommen. Letzterer übernahm auch Mix und Mastering.
