Mieruko Chan Ep 3 - Review

Heh, butt

A full episode with Hana? A full episode of laughter! (and suffering for Miko)

Man this episode is a riot. Started the episode with the spooky and it was done real well. Just how it stared at Miko and moved around her made my body stiff as if it was actually around me (jeez i hope not). And not just the first ghost but the other ghosts we ecountered in this episode was really eerie too.

So far in the anime we haven't ecountered any dangerous ghosts but in this episode we did ecountered some that are way stronger then the usual. I do think the ghosts can hurt you, as in the manga Miko has ecountered ghosts that are dangerous and, i would say, life threatening.

Eyyy we got The Godmother! I really like the scene where the prayer beads just explodes and it slowed mo her face, thr animation was smooth and the style reminded me of Studi Ghibli's.

Fall 2021 Plan to Watch List

(Fall 2021 Preview) there was a.. dramatic increase in mecha series this season. not that i added many of them, since mecha isn’t my style

YES!!! (gonna watch as soon as first episode airs)

Blue Period (a boy gets in touch with his artistic side! this is a good pv and i’m very into the guy with braids)

Deji Meets Girl (apparently the eps are only 1 min long? the art is outstandingly cute tho. i like the underwater setting too)

Platinum End (the first 10 eps or so of Death Note are amazing and i wanna see if PE is better or worse)

Maybe! (i’m busy rn but will watch these later if they get good feedback)

Kyuuketsuki Sugu Shinu (has good potential as a comedy, but most importantly, that pv was incredibly stylish)

Tsuki to Laika to Nosferatu (space race with a vampire? the main two characters seem like they’ll have a good romance subplot. seems kinda tropey for having such a unique concept tho)

Takt Op. Destiny (fighting monsters with music is a badass concept, although the last time i saw something like this it was... bad, to say the least. the animation absolutely slapped though! also, the main guy seems to be missing an arm, which i love)

Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu. (i’ve seen this around tumblr pretty often. seems cute! about a girl with awful social anxiety and the guy who’s trying to help her out)

Senpai ga Uzai Kouhai no Hanashi (an adult romcom. doesn’t look like it because of how tiny the heroine is, but they are grown ups! a cute setup, but if i only watch one romcom this season it’ll probably be komi-san)

Maybe not (might watch it months later or has like a 5% chance of me watching it)

86 2nd Season (first season got a pretty positive reception and i’m interested in the war aspect! i feel like this show takes that seriously)

Mieruko-chan (i’m a fan of horror comedies. it doesn’t seem like this show is doing it’s concept justice)

Muteking the Dancing Hero (this does not look like a “good” show. but the vibe is super fun! lmfao)

Sakugan (i am not at all into mecha but this is easily the best looking one this season)

Visual Prison (the aesthetic is fun but there’s no way this is gonna be good)

Taishou Otome Otogibanashi (mostly interested in this bc my friend is.has potential to be a cute romance but i kind of don’t like that is has a harem feel, these two are supposed to be married.)

World Trigger 3rd Season (meant to watch season 2 when it came out but i didn’t<3 ngl the pvs suck tho)

Sotsu Ep. 3 Thoughts

Do I... actually have any thoughts? (Makie: “I can’t think of any worries...”)

Mai Nakahara is good at her job? Yes, but we already knew that.

Some combination of Passione and this particular director apparently really like overdoing the gore to the point of unintentional comedy, that much is now clear. I suppose that’s kind of appropriate for Higurashi, as laid out by Bern’s farce comedy poem. (It does get my hopes up for the Mieruko-chan adaptation...)

The cuts between Rika outside and the Keiichi-Rena fight might be the best thing Sotsugou has done since the episode 15 jump cut, there’s that.

I should have considered the possibility of a double suicide in my Onidamashi-hen solution space, that’s certainly true.

My “the deception of Gou is that it’s a mystery to be solved at all” theory from a while back is still live, that’s a thing.

Other than that... *shrug*. Not much new here, just “called it!” points. But then, when you’re answering the arc whose answers were the most set in stone that’s only to be expected. (The thing is, you’d think I would care slightly more considering how much I usually like getting to watch things unfold exactly how I knew they were going to - remember, I went into OG Higurashi *badly* spoiled and still adored it to the point where the cast is living rent-free in my head a decade later.)

Next stop: Twin switch permutations!

I seem to remember people who read the source text said the pacing was too fast, but I don’t feel that, as an anime-only watcher. Then again, they increased the focus on the fights, so I’m not complaining.

LOL, Sixsung. The only Korean word I know well is “chaebol”, so I think it’s used here. (<- did not use volume)

Visual Prison 1

Checking this out because I am 7 episodes from approaching the (self-imposed) threshold on my spreadsheet – that is, I had over 100 eps accrued on that thing and, once I finish those 7 I’ll have exactly 100 old episodes, so I can move on to checking out the new anime.

Of all the things in the world this anime needed, why did it have to be a panda cat? *raises eyebrow*

I like a concert-like experience, but I swear it’s the same yells on loop! Gah!

These twins(?) remind me of the Beppus (Boueibu s2).

There’s a member of the Discord server who likes Iori of Paradox Live, so I am reminded of Iori when I see this Saga guy *sweatdrops*. (Note: I am currently an admin of a Discord server for Hypnosis Mic. This was one of the reasons I fell behind on my simulcasts – the conversations there would happen for most hours of the day and always sucked up anime-watching time.)

Waiwaiwaiwaitttttttttttt…microphone swords???? That’s something not even Hypnosis Mic does and you know how much I love that series! You have my attention!

What’s with the “Bro”??? Honestly, there’s not much to comment on if it’s just music video after music video…

*vampire gets bitten into, he screams in ecstasy* Uhhhhhhhh…there is clearly a sexual metaphor here, but I will refrain from commenting on it…

When it says “thank you”, Ange specifically seems to be saying “thank you for helping me” in the Japanese. However, it seems to be readily apparent from the previous text he is saying this, too, hence the simplification. (Also, it’s possible I misheard him. I suck at listening to Japanese these days.)

Hah…that was…interesting, to say the least. It’s threadbare in plot, hard to comment on, but a fun viewing experience, if campy.

Mieruko-chan 1

To be honest, I wasn’t planning on watching this one - I heard about the fanservice when reading others’ first episode impressions. However, I kept hearing about it from someone in the Discord server and so it got to the point where I checked it out anyway.

Question for all the writers out there: is in medias res always a good place to start? (<- might write a blog post about this)

*cringe* What’s with Hana’s boob shots?

*cringes again at the panty shot*

*gives sus eyes to the butt shot*

Funi translated “uneasy”, but they didn’t translate one of the other calligraphy on the walls, which is 虚構 (kyokou), or “fictitious”. A different one says “hope” (kibou) and ye another says “despair” (zetsubou).

I think the moment where Miko is proven to be haunted is a masterclass in how to scare people – I mean, the build-up (establishing Hana wasn’t there with the camera angle and the photo appearing many times until you could see a different face) was slow but steady.

I knew this was a horror-comedy going into it and I knew the entire premise, but…seeing it in execution now is…kinda disappointing. Miko has the ignorance down to a T.

*cringes again at butt shot* The fact most of my reactions here are cringes…is a bad sign, really.

*sighs at unnecessary underwear line/camel toe*

The bag actually said “Kanata no Shio” (Faraway Salt/Salt Over There)…it’s probably a Japanese brand I’m not familiar with. Update: Checked it and it seems to be a brand unique to this anime.

“Gangle”, LOL.

Welp, it’s a horror-comedy that executes on the horror, but not on the comedy much. It’s a shame too, because it’s just in time for Halloween.

Sorry this is late

Hana, the portable stove

I'm glad we got a Hana centered scene(?) eith her legendary line, "Well, whatever" 😂 it's shown from time to time that she have a kind soul that even Miko appriciates a lot

It seems that the ghosts have or a hierarchy or a cycle where the 'stronger' ghosts can eat 'weaker' ghosts to get stronger or even more messed up lol

I really enjoy this episode, my fav so far. I'm exited to see the Temple Arc being animated, the horror aspect really shines in this Arc.

Speaking of, the desicion to make them glow is a good adition i think. It made them more different then the other ghosts even those who have an 'aura' like Miko's dad

I was a tad bit dissapointed at Hana's picture as the 'dragon god' was too bright + the sun so it was hard to see the ghost being eaten and Miko's face was more of a suprise then her manga's face which was pure terror and about to cry but she made up for it in the next scene XD

And also i read someone's comment that the shrine's name have something to do with 3 (sorry i couldn't remember the full translation), and this episode certainly have a lot of 3s. From the 'gods' 'three wishes' and even Hana's clock stoped at 3 (which was a good detail)
