“When an early autumn walks the land and chills the breeze and touches with her hand the summer trees….’ That’s poetry. And ‘Like painted kites the days and nights went flying by. The world was new beneath a blue umbrella sky.”
― John Berendt, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
It’s been a while, but I’m back with good news! I’m excited to share that I’m now a ghost tour guide in Savannah! It’s already been so fun, I’ve really enjoyed meeting some of the other guides, and I get to tell some of the most fascinating lore about this beautiful old city.
Since I’m me, and can’t help myself, I’m of course doing some spooky drawings to enhance my storytelling. You can download this illo for free on my ko-fi page!
If you’re in the area, check out Ghost City Tours for the Beyond Good and Evil tour, there’s a chance we may meet! Check out all of their fascinating tours, it’s a great way to get to know Savannah ♥️👻
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (and more)
The late Jack Leigh may be most remembered for his image, “Midnight,” a 1993 photograph of a sculpture called “Bird Girl” in Savannah, Georgia’s Bonaventure Cemetery. The image was a commissioned for the cover of author John Berendt’s novel, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. But Leigh’s career stretches beyond the single image. “Jack Leigh: Full Circle, Low Country Photographs, 1972-2004,” at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) Museum of Art celebrates his legacy.
Can you believe I grew up with this book on my parents' bookshelf, and I never read it once? Of course I HAD to read it once I found it at the library.
This is going to be a weird question, but does anybody here in the Star Wars fandom remember an amazing Prequels AU fanfiction called Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by someone with the screenname "LLL"? It was on both FF.N and TheForce.Net. (Anakin didn't quite Fall, or else Fell sideways, and a female OC was involved who had a history with Palpatine, and she could easily be labeled a Mary Sue but she was GREAT, and because of her professional skillset, she helped Anakin have the tools he needed to handle Palpatine in such a way that the Empire never happened.)
LLL had a few other excellent fics, which unfortunately I never saved (although I did save Garden). One of these fics was about Padmé's death, and it was like an entirely believable medical basis for her death in RotS.
But a few years after I first encountered LLL's work, they took all their fics down. Possibly due to theft, but it's been so long now that I can't remember if I ever found a reason or not.
Does anybody remember these fics, and is there anybody out there who ever saved them? From time to time, this really haunts me, that I didn't save the other fics. I really wish I had. It would mean a lot to me if anybody still had backups and they'd be willing to share them with me, please?
