miss miku makes her incredible return!

i haven’t worn this costume to a con since i last wore it in 2016, coincidentally to metrocon that year. i was feeling nostalgic after being away from cons for 2+ years, and i was pleasantly happy to see such a great reception to this costume again, especially compared to its debut 6 years ago!! i got so many lovely compliments, and im glad that one of my most favorite costumes ever still seems to be a favorite among con-goers!

can you believe only 3 parts of this costume have been replaced since its debut 6 years ago? the only changes have been the shoes, the feather elements, and the corset. everything else, right down to the wig, is the exact same! it’s incredible what experience and time can do to change someone. i feel like having this cosplay as a benchmark of progress after all this time feels oddly fitting, since miku was my introduction to anime properly in the first place!! ❤️

Reflection post

What even was that last decade?  Where did it go?  Personal blather under the cut:

2009 - Starting here because this is the year that set the stage for the next 10.  The good - went to New York for the first time.  Met my favorite J-Rock band in New Jersey.  Went to Japan.  Went to Vegas for the first time.  The bad - lost the best job I ever had.  I’d done the whole work full time and go to night classes then get an unpaid internship to get it thing.  The company made promises to stay open in a smaller format and keep a few employees then the owner decided to outright close down.  Started drawing/painting again, mostly traditional work.

2010 - The year of the “Rock Trip” when a friend and I went to a few rock concerts in LA and San Francisco then went to see actual rocks in Death Valley, the Grand Canyon, and Valley of Fire.  Also the year my mom broke her sternum.  Went back to an old job in retail.  

2011 - The year of the Australia trip.  Visited the same friend from 2010 in Sydney, went to Uluru and got to see it in the rain (very rare and we were so lucky to see it!  This was the trip when we decided our combined super power was making it rain in the desert since it also rained in Vegas and Death Valley while we were there).  Started writing some original stuff that, in retrospect, definitely still needs work.

2012 - Went to New York to see a concert I never thought I’d have the chance to see.  Discovered I’m panromantic/asexual and probably either non-binary or gender fluid and had to rethink my entire life up until this point.  Started trying to sell handcrafted things at Metrocon and craft shows.  Broke up with a friend after 10 years of being “best friends” because he kept ditching me.  (Probably harsh on my part but I didn’t realize until later that the entire friendship was unhealthy, also mostly on my part.  He’s probably better off without me.  At least, I hope he is.)  This might be the last time that my sense of time made any sense to me.

2013 - ??? Got writer’s/art block???

2014 - Chronic illness flared and I had to quit my job.  Not a big loss, though since it was the main reason for the above question marks and a lot of depression/suicidal ideation.  Hours kept getting cut, more work expected, micromanaging increased, trust decreased, you know, the typical BS...  My 22 year old cat died.  Had horrible anxiety attacks.

2015 - Tried to get my shit together.  Mostly failed (didn’t know then but know now that it’s likely because I’m autistic and was trying to willpower through things that weren’t compatible with sensory overload).  Watched a lot of cartoons.  Managed to get anxiety attacks under control.

2016 - Started drawing every day.  Dove into the Gravity Falls fandom.  Made some awesome friends online.  Started writing again.  Actually a pretty good year, personally, despite all of the not good in the world.

2017 - Went on a cruise that was awesome in the spring.  In the fall, chronic illness tried to kill me and I said no (maybe 2015 wasn’t so fail?  I might have let it if I’d still been that emotionally messed up).  Drank down medicines while my body tried to send them back up, stuck to a strict nutritional plan, still fucking cooked dinner even though I had to drag a chair over to the stove to do it.  Lost my hair.  Somehow recovered enough to go to Universal Studios with my dad before Christmas.  My 18 year old cat died.  Adopted a new cat.

2018 - Basically tried to recover.  Worked on a lot of background art.  Started writing a long fic.  Started being able to climb stairs again.  Realized it had been a while since I made anything to try to sell/sold anything.

2019 - My dad had a bunch of dental issues and my mom hurt her back and I’ve been taking care of her.  Her dementia took a nosedive.  This...  probably requires a long post of its own that I’m not emotionally prepared to write.  I’m basically sticking to “numb” right now so I don’t just fall apart.  Basically did nothing all year other than lose sleep, camp out at hospitals and rehab centers, and sit around playing numbing games to keep myself sane.  Still feel ??? about gender.  Haven’t dated in 15 years.  Have successfully isolated myself from all but two RL friends.  Still haven’t gotten over some past trauma.  Blah blah blah.  

2020 - I’m doing a bunch of stuff that needs to get done, no matter what.  I’m tired of excuses and waiting and failing to stand up for myself.  The stagnation that is my life is a result of choices I’ve made and I’m done with making “safe” choices based on fear and past trauma.  Things are tougher now than they’ve ever been and I don’t fucking care.  Shit is getting done.

What's Anime Idol?

Anime Idol is a singing competition that is held every year at an anime convention called Metrocon in Tampa,FL. It's usually held in June or July ^^b

I have attended every year since 2015. I competed and won in 2015 and last year in 2018. Whenever you win, you get to come back and perform as the closing act (while the judges tally up scores) so in 2016-2017 I was the Closing Act ^_^!

Because I won last year, I will be the Closing Act this year. Usually I train for a year or half a year in order to be ready for the stage :)! So I am focusing at the moment to practice at least 3 times a day so I can nail it onstage! Thanks for the ask! 🎤🎼🎵🎶💕✨🌌

The other day I came across a full video of your Inuyasha panel at Metrocon 2016 with Kirby Morrow and you guys were absolutely hilarious. I had to keep pausing the video so I could stop and laugh without missing anything. Towards the end you also gave some really solid advice to an aspiring voice actor that I thought was very honest and heartfelt. I honestly don't have a question to ask in this ask, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed watching you just being yourself for an hour!

One of my projects this year is to make armor for my Sith. I was supposed to have some for Star Wars Celebration 2016 but I never finished making it. 30 Days of Cosplay! Day 11: Something that I generally will never do in a cosplay is crossplay. I can bend the heck out of something and make a femme version, but because of my hips (as seen below) I don't make very convincing boys even though my face can be very andro at times. However I am planning on cosplaying Kurapika from HunterxHunter if I have the funds because I can easily hide my hips under his tunic and big pants! So doing Motoko was a really interesting journey for me, both costume-wise and activity-wise. I was cast as her in RCC at MetroCon 2016 and had a solo/duo during the robot battle, so I had to learn how to do isolations and aerials! On top of that, I had to make a costume that held up to the strain of being danced in, and I had never made a body suit before! My leg armour bits were a tad too tight because that fabric didn't stretch as much as the grey fabric did, so the belt had much more strain on it to keep them from falling down, so it literally fell apart right after our Sunday show! The wig was a lot of fun though, as it started out as a long, curly wig. I chopped off so much hair! Me/tro.con 2016- Thursday

I forgot to make a diary entry for thursday bc i was busy doing stuff whoops. Here it is though! It’s my experience on thursday for future me to remember fondly. feel free to read if you want, though, be my guest.

Okay so dad, Kenyan (dad’s friend), and I were supposed to make it there by 5 or around that time so i could go to the madoka panel, buuut we arrived at like 5:30 and it tok Kenyan and I a while to do my makeup and calm me down so i missed that panel :(( but it’s okay!! 

R-w-by trivia was going on, but i have a bad memory so i didnt want to participate, so i walked around for a lil bit and checked out the dealer room and saw a cute pidge! so i took their picture. I actually found Kenyan again and walked around the dealer room w him and he squealed at all the plushies lmao

I decided to go check out the trivia thing and talked to dasd while i was in the panel room for a while and then i went back out bc i don;t know trivia :(( so i went back to the dealer room after a lil bit and found a cute mew i-chigo do i took their pic too and after a while, I found a cool Kuroo and we talked for a while abt milk and being in the dealer room when u dont have much money (i left my wallet at home, oops......) and they were rly cool!! i got their picture and the oso-san panel was approaching so i said goodbye (and the dealer room was closing) and went to the oso-san panel!

I was in there and apparently the original panelists hadn’t shown up?? so cosplayers in the audience (2 karas, a jyuushi, a choro, and a kami-matsu) ran the panel!! there was a lot of kara rosting and kara’s narcicissum and i remember asking: “what would your shsl talents be” (i remember Jyushi said a baseball) “if y’all had to kill one brother, who would it be?” (they said oso) “Kara, do you remember when ichi wore your clothes?” (they said how could i forget) “choro, what would you sacrifice to meet nyaa-chan?” (he said his brothers) and maybe another one?? but idk and ii’m tired it’s 2 am cut me some slack. But the panel was rly funny and kami was poetic and loving and some ppl snapped (like a poetry slam) after he spoke something nice abt his brothers. I talked to some of the ppl who lingered in the con room and a girl omplimented me on my nails and i spoke with a girl who was p nice (i’ll talk abt her later >:))

After that, i just sorta just walked around and dad and i went to the 2nd half of the terrible fanfiction panel and i understood nothing but the titanic fic was sorta funny I guess. And then.... THE 2ND OSO PANEL!! >:3C

I went over there, but i didnt think i saw anybody in the room but i was 7 minutes early so i was like okay w/e so i went back 3 minutes until the panel and saw a girl playing on her phone and i was abt to ask her if she knew if the panel was happening and when she looked up, it was the girl from before! (her name is nisha) and we went in together and the panelists were there as well as a handful of ppl so i sat next to nisha and one of the oso bros was like, “are youc osplaying as d.va? and i said, “Nerf this!” w the lil gun finger motion, and went, “of course i’m D.va! Mama mercy said my curfew is 8, but i’m not a noob so i’m staying past it!” Everyone was far away from the stage so the oso bros were like, “yall can come closer, ah yes, breathe in the neet air” and i was like, “I’m already trash i can’t get much worse” and the oso bros did a q and a and i remember asking ichi what his favorite breed of cat was (maine coon) and what totty’s daily makeup routine was (choro said oh god he could go on all day” and totty was listing off makeup and tbh the totty was rly cute they were) and someone asked what their dream jobs would be and kara said model, so did totty, choro said nyaa’s manager, jyushi said baseball player, and ichi said cat cafe, and nisha and i joked around during the panel w another girl who was sitting nearby.

And one person in the audience asked the bros who their fave girl from love l-ive was and i was like, “Rin” and so were 2 others and i high-foved them and nisha said umi and i was like, “okay but the important question is who’s the worst girl” and we both got sad. anyway, i think choro said kotori for his fave??
